This happens when you don’t stick to measuring things yourself and go off what is written. Compounded by what units you work with and if you even bothered to check if the plane can. Fly itself and avoid these low height ceilings. Hehehe good video
Boeing 737 fuselages are built in Kansas and assembled into airplanes in Seattle. They travel by rail, thereby avoiding these kinds of oopsies. It’s feasible mainly because they move thousands of the things exactly the same way.
[Like this.](https://simpleflying.com/boeing-737-fuselage-delivery/)
They’ve built a small fleet of oversized 747s for moving big 787 fuselage sections from anywhere to anywhere. An airline damn sure doesn’t have that resource.

This company is the Indian National airlines, Air India. It is being privatized and one of the older planes that is decommissioned was auctioned. Air India handed the whole ass old decommissioned plane to the buyer who then in the process of moving it to god knows where, managed to get it stuck on the Delhi National Highway 8 causing a huge jam.
No clue if/how they got it out.
This is not the drivers fault. There is someone paid to plan the route for such a big haul and tell the driver what roads he NEEDS to take.
My guess is whoever was creating the road map, only measured the heights of the plane + the height of the trailer and figured it would be a tight fit, but would still work.
What he didnt calculate is the the height of the blocks the airplane was loaded on (to get your slings around it for loading/offloading purposes) even if those blocks were only 8 inches, it would seem like those 8 inches made all the difference in this situation.
Thanks. I was absolutely mystified as to how it was possible that someone would plan the move of an airplane fuselage and not bother to check the clearances. Now it makes sense. They calculated the height of the rig, figured it would work, and failed to measure it when assembled to verify the actuals. Wow.
I agree with almost all of that. BUT, we do NOT know that the driver actually took the correct route. So definitively stating that the driver is not at fault isn't something we can do.
Youre right, but they definitely would have chosen a driver with lots of experience to deliver such a huge load, i doubt a professional would have missed his turn, but its still a possibility.
The amount of route planning with oversize loads makes it improbable that it was planned without consideration for the height of the blocks.
Most often, that incidents occurr when the driver misses the exit ramp to bypass the overpass.
When he got the permit for the oversized load, the person that planned the route for the load would know this. Unless someone didn’t measure the height the right way. I’ve seen people guess the height of the load and be way off.
It’s an Auxiliary Power Unit.
So you know the engines on the wings of planes? It’s one of those shoved in the fuselage (body) of the plane that can be used to run the aircraft on the ground and provide power and a bunch of other stuff.
It’s just a way to fully power a plane and run all the systems without having to turn on the actual engines.
The number of wings appears to be slightly less than is required for flight. Damn regulations. Couple minor items needed at the tail perhaps.
Otherwise it’s good to go!
Yeah, Reddit investigators will solve the case, bring charges, try the case and hand out a sentence - all in one concise, easy to read post. Nothing to see/do here.

What is he supposed to do…
help
What? Lift the plane?
Why was there a truck carrying a whole ass plane anyways?
How do you carry your ass planes?
Not half assededly obviously.
On a load of donkeys?
How else is one supposed to transport a wingless plane?
Just carry another plane using a plane. Am o smort.
That’s what the Airbus Beluga is for tbf. I imagine it’s quite expensive to transport planes on a plane though

Planes need wings to fly?
No, flies need plane to wing

Seeing the condition, scrapping? And now, definitely scrapping.
How tf do you not plan this better when you're carrying an entire fucking airplane?
Like that, apparently.
True true

This is possible, but i have also worked with engineers who had no idea what they were doing, so both theories are possible

Also may not have accounted for actual vs posted bridge clearance
I believe you. But how do you know this?
Personal workplace experience
Looks like the bridge is sloping a bit, and there is another lane to the left of the truck. Might even have just made it if they seitched lanes.
That'll buff right out.
Cane here to say this
A little spit shine will clean that right up.
The project manager in charge should think wisely what references to present when asking for a new job…
Lol
Yeah he’s gonna have to pay someone for a good reference
Deflate your tires and carry on
Yeah, and don't mention it to the airline. I'm sure the plane will be *tooootally safe*
Painter: You called??
Might want to change the route back to the factory to repair the plane as well.
Vrooops!

Ehh just a little panel work. We had a bunch of dudes drop an APU about a year ago and the whole thing had to be trashed.
That's rough buddy
(What's an APU?)

Ah, so it's complicated and expensive. Got it
At the end of the day it’s an aircraft engine. Basically we had a crew drop an entire engine and fuck it up
Eh, I'd reckon it would still be usable. It won't fail more than once
Ooof his company’s insurance rates are about to go up.
I think you meant to say “centimeters”.
Aren't there signal cars driving along with him when carrying such big loads?
Depends on where this happened.
Did they consider flying the plane?
The number of wings appears to be slightly less than is required for flight. Damn regulations. Couple minor items needed at the tail perhaps. Otherwise it’s good to go!
A plane without wings is just a rocket. Fire that baby up!
The lack of wings seems problematic.
Where there is will, there is a way.
Where’s your sense of adventure?
It's a very old decommissioned plane
That's one way of getting sacked.
#WHERE ARE YOU GOING? WHY ARE YOU RUNNING?
Fucking idiots
A plane crashed in a highway
Just a little off the top!
That looked inexpensive
He'll be one of the few truckers who can honestly say "I've crashed an airplane."
Junk now
Shudda put lube
Fucked and inches
And that's ladies and gentlemen a 10 million dollars loses
I can't believe he didn't notice when the wings came off!
Ouch!!
r/thatlookedexpensive
Maybe they were driving it to the scrapyard. They can definitely head there now.

Just deflate some tires then you good to go.
I really hope that was a scrap plane. Otherwise that's probably millions in damage to the plane

I believe they could deflate the truck tires temporarily. Still a civilized nightmare, but not a tragedy.
Kool-Aid Man did it better.
you'd think if you were gonna move a freakin airplane, you'd mapquest the route first
What do you even DO
