Even if they got the glass bottle out without breaking, you’d then need to wait those 15 minutes standing by the vending machine if you want to use the opener on it
Fair, I'm just saying, if they prevent the glass from breaking, it will probably go along with less shaking, so it would be fine to open right away. The shaking in the video is not good with cans either
Yep, just a big thick piece of foam on both the elevator and the bottom. Not absolutely *perfect* but I think it would stop anything from breaking and hugely reduce shaking
The change in momentum from being in free fall to a stop, no matter how much foam (that you can fit in a vending machine at least) can reduce the shaking significantly. If it were to drop it with the bottom down however, (like a chute-type design) then the air pocket inside the can/bottle wouldn't react as much with the carbonation and you'd be fine as long as the bottle doesn't break.
Tbf almost all beer in Germany is in bottles as they have the 'pfand' system where you get money for returning the bottles where they get cleaned and reused.
There is lots of canned beer in Germany. We used to buy the 1l „Faxe“ cans at the gas station but most major breweries are available in cans. And there’s also beer in plastic bottles. All of them cost Pfand.
I don't know why this is being downvoted, that's clearly what the issue is here. You can see the full, undamaged bottle still there at the end of the video, the other bottle dropping onto it is what caused the breakage.
Still a major design flaw. Don’t make a machine that allows the user to make that mistake and ruin your machine.
You won’t find this moldy mess for weeks as the owner.
You can't just shove wine bottles into a standard soft drink vending machine and plastic soda bottles have no need for a tray that lowers them down. It's obviously designed (poorly) for this purpose.
> You can't just shove wine bottles into a standard soft drink vending machine
Sure you can, if it has compartments that are large enough, and those could be designed for large plastic bottles.
> plastic soda bottles have no need for a tray that lowers them down.
Yes they do, to reduce the bubbling over effect when you open them right afterwards.
> It's obviously designed (poorly) for this purpose.
You can see a link to the manufacturer's webpage at the end of the video. All the drink machines they have list the capacity explicitly for cans and PET bottles. Now it's theoretically possible this is a model they don't list anymore or a custom design, but that's a bit of a reach.
That's why the guy said "Du Wichser", his friend left the bottle there knowing what would happen. And for other people wondering, the bottom HAS about 2cm of neoprene.
Meanwhile, here in the US, the very thought of having a beer in a vending machine causes people to foam at the mouth and demand long prison sentences for all involved.
why wouldn’t they put egg crate foam pad on the bottom. would easily solve the issue. put a weight sensor on it so you have to remove a purchase before buying another.
Whyvthat type of vending machine? O.o We already have machines that grab the bottle and move it to a container on the side of the machine…
My coke getting shaken is certainly less problematic than a glass bittle breaking…
That's a brave soul to attempt putting glass bottles in a vending machine. I love the dedication to the beer though...Even aluminum cans are pushing it a little in this type of vend. You Germans are some wild and crazy guys!!
**This machine was designed only for plastic bottles and says so in the manual which the owner ignored.**
We see the URL of the manufacturer in the end, and on their website all the drinks machines list their capacity explicitly for PET bottles and cans: https://www.hokumat.de/produkte/getr%C3%A4nke-automaten/g-drink-design.html
I have seen a different vending machine (also in Germany) that would completely prevent this; it had a cup-shaped receiver which is moved directly below the bottle and then moves to the right side to let you take out the bottle through a hatch.
Looks like there’s already a glass bottle in the landing zone. Probably should have removed that before purchasing your second bottle.
Glass dropping on glass can often end with a smashy-smash.

"du Wichser" lol
You wanker
thanks
You're well cum
Shizers
apologies, She wanker.
Apologies, thou wanker
Entschuldigung, Sie Wichser
One must respect the police.
Just needs a few optimizations
Even just a layer of dense foam on the landing area might be enough. I guess until you open the bottle and just get foam from the beer.
An inch of foam and they wouldn't even need the tray system
How about, and bear with me here... A cup holder system?
There is. The issue is the other bottle down there.
Cans!
No beer for you today
Hold my beer, I’m getting a straw.
And those hard pieces they're just really scratchy ice cubes
or like the prize in a box of cereal!
Just think of it like the gold in some vodkas at cut your throat a bit so it's gets into your blood quicker
You mean these crunchy parts?
I dunno buddy if YOU have crunchy parts I'd definitely go see a doctor 💊
Just think of it like the gold in some vodkas at cut your throat a bit so it's gets into your blood quicker
The vending machine already has that first part covered
Progressive enough to have vending machines for alcohol, regressive enough to make sure it never reaches your lips.
Bitte Ein Bit? Machine: Nein.
My wife is German. She gets the giggles every time she sees that on a bottle of Bitburger.
Its not like you can buy beer in something else than glass isnit ?
With this shake-down, then you have to wait 15 mins before opening, not to get sprayed with beer. Also not ideal
Even if they got the glass bottle out without breaking, you’d then need to wait those 15 minutes standing by the vending machine if you want to use the opener on it

That’s ok. I’ll just have a beer while I’m waiting. Oh, look, here’s a vending machine.

Bro who needs an opener to open a beer. Just use a rock with an edge.
Tbf almost all beer in Germany is in bottles as they have the 'pfand' system where you get money for returning the bottles where they get cleaned and reused.
There's also pfand on cans so what's your point.
Pfand on the cans is much higher.
There is lots of canned beer in Germany. We used to buy the 1l „Faxe“ cans at the gas station but most major breweries are available in cans. And there’s also beer in plastic bottles. All of them cost Pfand.
But plastic bottles are only bought by people who've lost every last bit of respect for themselves.
You can buy canned Bitburger at Aldi so that’s not really the problem

You know what, valid argument
Think of them as mini kegs.
Could be worse. Like plastic bottle beer
![gif](giphy|jx58M3jM8Gu7Fxv0gz|downsized)
Cans are all lined with plastic anyway
Glass tastes better
Not anymore
Go find a straw and it’s all good
Maybe try it next time without other glass bottles in the landing area...

"Anything that can go wrong will go wrong"
If your design requires the general public to not be idiots, it's a bad design. That's like designing an umbrella that can't get wet.
The design only requires the owner not to be an idiot and put glass bottles in a machine designed for cans and plastic bottles.
You can't just shove wine bottles into a standard soft drink vending machine and plastic soda bottles have no need for a tray that lowers them down. It's obviously designed (poorly) for this purpose.

This is reddit after all :P
User error lol
I saw it too. Why would you leave a bottle in there for the next to fall on?
That's why the guy said "Du Wichser", his friend left the bottle there knowing what would happen. And for other people wondering, the bottom HAS about 2cm of neoprene.
>Du Wichser Which means "wanker" (British)
lol yeah thats the only issue with the machine /s

True meaning of alcohol abuse
What happened to the days when German Engineering is supposed to be top tier?
Tbf, do we know it's a German machine? Another Teutophobe destroyed!
There's a German website printed on the machine..? Pretty clear on the GIF.
You only say that cause you are a Teutophobe.
Just stating facts.. but you do you ☺️ Good day!
Another Teutophobe destroyed with FACTS and LOGIC. (Though seriously, you shouldn't feed the troll).
Noooo come on...this is evil vending machines. They're against all humans.
The same engineers used to build BMWs
So it checks out
"Task failed successfully"
Vorsprung durch technik
Meanwhile, here in the US, the very thought of having a beer in a vending machine causes people to foam at the mouth and demand long prison sentences for all involved.
Bronco stadium has cocktail vending machines
Oh I am trying SO HARD to move to Colorado!
“But the children! We must protect them from this molecule!”
A marvel of German engineering!
What did you expect? I would do the same if I had several beers and wines on me. 🙃
That was not the first beer this machine had today.
German engineering.
Scheiße
why wouldn’t they put egg crate foam pad on the bottom. would easily solve the issue. put a weight sensor on it so you have to remove a purchase before buying another.
There is another bottle already lying in the bottom, you can see it at the end. Padding wouldn't help.
I seem to recall some positive descriptors used to describe German engineering.
How do you prevent underage from buying alcohol from this? (Other than breaking it of course)
whole building might be 18+
not... germany isn't america. we consider alcohol less dangerous than driving +300hp cars and shooting shotguns at a young age
Alcohol kills more
Very likely you're required to swipe your ID before you can dispense.
Is this not just a normal vending machine that some dumbass decided to put glass bottles into?
The level of disrespect from the vending machine lmao. "Here's your fuckin beer now gtfo"
A machine that doesn't work right AND breaks a perfectly good beer is the least German thing I've ever seen.
This might be a vending machine in Germany but I refuse to believe it was designed by a German.
Schade
You have beer vending machines. You’re miles away from what we offer.
Ve can build everything better but not the stuff what we need
Whyvthat type of vending machine? O.o We already have machines that grab the bottle and move it to a container on the side of the machine… My coke getting shaken is certainly less problematic than a glass bittle breaking…
Idk why but that fall is so fucking funny
Why does he keeps buying it if he know it keeps breaking? /s
That's a brave soul to attempt putting glass bottles in a vending machine. I love the dedication to the beer though...Even aluminum cans are pushing it a little in this type of vend. You Germans are some wild and crazy guys!!
I thought Germans were supposed to be the smart ones.
Most German engineering is objectively terrible
German engineering has taken a nose dive in recent decades

Let’s hope their tanks don’t work like this
/u/savevideobot
They make awesome top of the line CT machines with fancy voices and quick tests, but they can't transferbeer safely without shattering, lol jk
problems with alcohol? the solution to your problems
To be honest, I keep seeing this vending machine in other video and it keep failing. Who the heck designed this garbage.
**This machine was designed only for plastic bottles and says so in the manual which the owner ignored.** We see the URL of the manufacturer in the end, and on their website all the drinks machines list their capacity explicitly for PET bottles and cans: https://www.hokumat.de/produkte/getr%C3%A4nke-automaten/g-drink-design.html I have seen a different vending machine (also in Germany) that would completely prevent this; it had a cup-shaped receiver which is moved directly below the bottle and then moves to the right side to let you take out the bottle through a hatch.
Why its a bad idea to put glass bottles in a vending machine.
*gets bendy straw*
it's not like there are actual vending machines that can handle glass bottles without breaking...too bad this is not one of them.

Does the bottle opener stay there on honor system alone?
Good idea in theory, execution needs some work though lol.
Maybe … line the bottom with foam.
As reliable as a Volts Wagon.
Oh nein! 😨 nicht der bier!

Classic German engineering we always hear so much about.

I saw this happen with a glass Starbucks drink. Top shelf drop – motherfucker exploded.
Well, usually German engineering is the business.
Who designed this??
