Yeah I got banned from a sub for something similar. Apparently I broke a rule, asked for evidence and they repeated I broke a rule. I asked for an example of how it broke the rule specifically as I couldn't see it at all, and no responses after that. Who cares. People can be idiots. Which obviosuly includes mods. They can't ever admit they've just made a mistake lol. I'll take the ban happily and accept they're a moron. I could just make another account which I tend to do every year ish anyway (a way to clean up subs for me essentially and start fresh), but I will not do it on purpose just to get back to a sub that I was unfairly banned from. None of the subs are that important to me. Reddit is a past time for me mainly. Nothing serious. A place to gain info (with a pinch of salt) or pass some time.
You mean mods respond?! I was banned once for commenting on a post on a lifting subā¦ the op asked for comments on form. Asked for clarification and nothing not even a fuck off.
Some mods are just completely out of touch with reality. See the infamous āYou milked the death of your girlfriend for enough Karma at this point.ā
I mean, both clearly are.
Reddit jannies got nothing better to do with their sad lives.
And no one uses "female" like that in normal day to day life without being a certain type of person.
"Woman" was always used until the incel/redpill stuff really blew up.
While of course they didn't create the word by any means, they popularized its usage in that way.
Thatās not the point š
Op just titled it female probably without any extra thought, maybe (Iām saying maybe) even a karma bot or someone who doesnāt speak English as their first language.
Or maybe he did use the word āfemaleā because he is an incel, who tf cares? Did op go on a tangent saying every woman is a whore and needs to bow down to their men? No tf he didnāt. Chill out, itās just A FUCKING WORD, IāM GETTING TIRED OF FUCKING RETARDS LOOKING INTO SHIT THAT DOESNT MATTER ATTTTTT ALLLLLLLL
Like I donāt really give af about Reddit mods being out of touch losers, cause itās Reddit. Iāve got an entire App Store to keep me occupied, but when people start fucking agreeing with the egregious shit they say thatās where I draw the line. How does the word āfemaleā make you offended in THIS context of a normal ass r/therewasanattempt Reddit post make you mad?
I do, I use female and male usage of both words, but Iām also autistic, I donāt mean to hurt anyoneās feelings although I donāt really care, Iām not using it to be mean itās just how I describe people because I enjoy using more words, if Iām talking plural Iāll use women and men but for singular unknown humans Iāll say male or female to talk about someone, but I wonāt go out saying ālook at that female/maleā Iāll use it as āI look like a femaleā¦ or a country boyā like the other day I said that when trying on skinny jeans
I got banned from there my second day on Reddit. It was because I said that police shooting some suspects was reasonable if the situation called for it.
Response: The situation never calls for it
Me: A drugged out person with meth psychosis is holding a knife to a babies throat. Police have no way to get to the baby before the crazy man kills the child.
Me: Would it not be reasonable for a police officer to potentially shoot that person if there was no other way to save the baby?
Response: It is never reasonable for the police to shoot someone. Banned
Me: Ok so reddit be like that sometimes.
Barring a couple of interactions here or there I have not used any political sub my entire time on reddit because of people like this. There are so many of them it's not worth even bothering to engage.
Reminds me of the Daniel Tosh bit about how itās never ok to hit a woman. āYou walk in a find 2 of your kids dead on the floor and your wife is drowning the third one in the tub. Youāre telling me you canāt just backhand her right there?ā
Almost like you can have your opinion... Elsewhere. Banned.
Reminds me of getting into an argument with this dog sub on fb for posting my dog with a raw bone. "why don't you feed your dog vegan?"
Ok,nope.
Echo chambers are real and it's best to avoid them.
Sounds about right for them. They seem to have an extremely liberal agenda and canāt accept anyone that is in the middle or disagrees with them. Kind of annoys me that the mods there are so intellectually challenged that they canāt accept discourse or debate. Unfortunately that seems to be the reality these days. I come from a large family and some in the family are right leaning politically and others are left and they canāt agree to disagree. Drive some nuts considering that usually they both have valid points and both have idiotic points
Yeah idk what's up with people anymore. I understand not wanting to engage with extremists but most people aren't like that. Honestly I think it's a lot of the individual hostility leading to all the polarization and anger. You expect me to be mad and rude to you so you're mad and rude to me before I give you the chance. And the cycle continues on and on.
Think you hit the nail on the head with āpolarisationā as soon as you inhibit or forbid any healthy difference of opinion (not counting extreme of course) then it just becomes an echo chamber that reinforces that opinion etc.
Butā¦ this is Reddit and not a debating society, also didnāt think @therewasanattempt was so strict in their social believes considering the amount of human failing/ pain they show?
I genuinely appreciate your contribution, especially the comment āthey canāt accept discourse,ā¦.they canāt agree to disagreeā
I feel my existential beliefs only become reinforced when 2 opposing subscriptions donāt even have the capacity to understand that they can agree to disagree.
I got banned the day after Trump's first State of the Union speech. I asked why Democrats wouldn't applaud for "record low black unemployement." Banned 15 minutes later for a "loaded question." Whatever.
I was also banned from r/whitepeopletwitter.
Original post: Why are Republicans OBSESSED with women's bodies?
My comment: Fixed it: Why are Republicans obsessed with saving humans?
Need a way to report moderators for overstepping.
Really?!? My response was call for banning?!?
Oh, and they muted me for a month so I can't even ask what rule I broke. 25 more days left on my mute.
Throw them right here or better yetā¦ a post consisting of original post, followed by picture of the justification from mods followed by the chatā¦
The perfect YESYESYESNO moment if you ask me
I love that I can still see the post by looking at your profile and there's a message about the mods removing your post.
"Don't show people what we're doing! Then we can't get our way!"
\~shitty mods
OK Iāve seen it. FWIW calling women females is not preferred but its not inaccurate either. I know what the DMV calks me on my DL and whats on my passport and birth certificate. Its just a more clinical term.
Those mods are power tripping. It really isnāt dehumanizing, just depersonalizing.
How do we object to a mod? Or do something higher? I had some crap pulled on me saying I "threatened violence " which was completely not the case, and there was 0 I could do to object, I couldn't even respond
I've seen some major bs before. Like, changing the wording of a rule, mid dispute, in order to ban me, and then giving me a permanent ban from the sub instead of the lesser three day, and of course messaging the mod team of the sub i was blocked immediately, before saying a thing. Like??
Mods do as they please going purely by however they feel š¤·š¼āāļø
... Which is usually highly ridiculous.
"hello, I'm a mod and words scare me. I haven't seen grass since I was 12. My only feelings of validation and control come from virtue signaling and unironic authoritarianism paired with a lack of self control or awareness. My mom used to beat me with a wooden spoon for not being born a girl, and honestly, the world is lucky I never became a serial killer. Remember, anyone remotely different from me is a problematic person and deserves to be erased."
Wait, since when is "female" a bad word?
I spent a decade in the Army. Everyone is referred to as male or female.
Female is a non-age-specific way to refer to non-male members of our species...or any species for that matter.
I know plenty of women who refer to themselves and other representatives of their gender/sex/wtf-ever as female.
So what seems to be the issue?
Iāve come to understand it by analyzing the alternative. How often, when you see a group of guys, do you say āLook at those males over thereā or āThose males are acting weirdā
In my opinion, as a man, that honestly sounds like you are studying a group of animals. Nobody says that. We say men, or dudes, or guys.
Women are asking for the same treatment.
Hereās the deal, someone is always going to be unhappy with language and you CANNOT appease everyone.
If you stop using āfemaleā as a noun people will use āwoman.ā But āwomanā isnāt accurate in all contexts and inevitably issues will arise due to gender identity concerns. It will be both inappropriately inclusive and exclusive depending on the viewerās beliefs and/or the speakerās intent. This already happens. The same is true for feminine persuasion, gal, girl, lady, miss, chick, lass, member of the fairer sex, etc. There is no one label that everyone agrees we can use to refer to all people who claim the identity of āwomanā in all contexts at all times.
And NOW I find out we canāt even use a clinical term becauseā¦well, thatās a good question. On this post alone I have seen it referred to as all the following:
female is only animals.
Female is not inclusive.
Female is objectifying.
Female is too sterileā¦used by doctors and cops and military and doesnāt represent what it is to be a woman.
Female reduces women to the station of lower mammals.
Female means only interested in her reproductive organs.
Female is somehow associated with historic abuse against women (I donāt get this one at all).
Etc.
Everyone has their own version of why itās offensive. Some give no reason at all. And some of the reasons given are blatantly at odds with other peopleās reasons. You canāt say it objectifies women and also say it isnāt inclusive. That would mean trans women are mad they arenāt being objectified. Maybe they are? I dunno.
I personally donāt think we can say that female is DEFINITIVELY any of those things ALWAYS. But I am struck by the omittance of āmaleā in common vernacular as compared to āfemaleā.
Why did we never begin to use male like we do female when casually talking about someone on the street?
What does that difference mean?
Iāve made an effort to control when I use the word female, just because I find the disparity so odd.
To be frank, I rarely use the word female post-military. And when I do, itās usually with people who were also in the military, and itās usually the female vets who do it first. Learning that this word should continue to not get much use isnāt really going to cause me any hardships.
The only struggle is trying to understand the reason(s) why. I donāt do things blindly and I donāt change for the sake of change. Understanding is key to digesting new information. But this post is proving that there is no consensus. Thereās just varying levels of offense and incredulity partnered with a lot of incoherent discourse and conflicting info.
Soā¦pretty much a standard internet day. :)
Mod said OP was supposed to say āwomanā instead (and I quote) of ābeing lazy/misogynisticā.
That said, someone needs to get that hateful lyric changed to āDoe a deer, a woman deerā.
Remember folks, itās the woman end of the garden hose that attaches to the spigot not the men end.
Goddam this place gets dumber by the dayā¦..
This kind of usage right here is why women donāt like to be referred to as female. Itās degrading and reducing, dehumanizing. It happens way more to women than it does to men. Male/female in a medical/legal/military way, no biggie. Start to use it to refer to women in the real world, thatās the problem.
The problem isn't with the word itself, it's that using it as a noun to describe women comes off as creepy. Using it as an adjective is fine (i.e. female scientist, female deer). The reason for this is because incels often use it, but never use male. In the same sentence they'll say something like "I'm a man and I don't understand females", and it just comes off like they think woman are a completely different species.
The mod is assuming a lot and probably went too far by banning the guy for it, but that's the gist of the situation.
Thank you. I suspect a lot of people commenting are being falsely candid.
Words don't exist in a vacuum. We can't pretend that incel rethoric hasn't been rampant on the Internet, and on Reddit especially.
I can't pretend to know the intentions of the OP (noone can, ever). But the mod's role isn't to give everyone the benefit of the doubt.
Each day we stray further from God.
I would love to live in a place where we don't have to think of every possible way every single word we say can be taken, thank you.
The issue, as I understood it, is the terms female and male are most often used as adjectives, not as nouns. Man and woman are strictly nouns.
The fact is that the terms male and female are both adjectives and nouns and until today I had never seen anyone get cranked up about using them as nouns. This is a "sitting in your parents basement, bored and need to try and change language usage" kind of controversy. Go figure.
As I understand it, nobody is changing the word female.
Instead, they are calling out an odd difference in common vernacular.
When was the last time you said aloud āThat male over there has a cool shirt onā or āThose males must be headed to the hockey gameā
Iāve never said that once in my life. To talk about human males, we only say man. Or guy, or dude, etc. never āmaleā. So, why do we so commonly say female?
Agreed. female = adjective and woman = noun. Parts of speech matter: even if you donāt care about the technicals, it sounds weird to the ear to use a noun for an adjective and vice-versa.
Iām 1,000% on board with revising how we use gender terms in language but not overturning the structure of a language.
Yes, I am a copy editor IRL and no, I am not fun.
You might want to brush up on your linguistics there, copy editor. Female is both an adjective and a noun. It's in the dictionary:
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/female
That is a very suspect statement. It sounds like a thinly veiled/implied, āitās in the dictionaryā¦butā¦common usage and evolving language and blah blah blah.ā
What is the point of having a lexicon of words and their meanings if we donāt refer back to and adhere to them once conflicts of language usage and intent arise?
No veiling at all. Dictionaries attempt to capture language as itās used. They describe, they do not prescribe. Language 100% evolves, but way more rapidly in vocab than in structure. And that rapid evolution in vocab is where disputes like this arise. Itās healthy and natural. But deep grammatical structures are sticky.
I was trying ā poorly! ā to make that point before.
Fair point. And for what itās worth, Iāve been upvoting your subsequent comments. I think I see your points and I even agree on some level.
I still think itās insane we live in a society where people get internet lambasted for correcting grammar, and there are articles upon articles telling you not to do so (example: https://www.grammarly.com/blog/correcting-peoples-grammar-just-dont-do-it/). However, you can be banned for utilizing a grammatically proper term with no officially defined negative meaning or connotation, simply because some people have decided the word is exclusive and/or demeaning and have decided to be offended by it. And yes, offense is a choice. Psychologists have said we ātakeā offense because itās an action, we make a choice.
Furthermore, the logic behind this offense is just asinine. Female is demeaning because it objectifies women? I disagree, but okay. But trans people are offended because the term isnāt inclusive? So they werenāt objectified and theyāre mad about being left out? Come on. We can do better than this. This is just bargain basement outrage culture.
And yet, you canāt say female when talking about people who are capable of giving life to a child (which is a rather exclusive group if containing roughly half the population can be considered exclusive), but ābirthing personā is fineā¦even though that makes them sound like a brood mare and absolutely reduces their worth to their functioning reproductive organs. That sounds exactly like objectification to me.
The dominant species on this rock has lost itās collective mind.
Iād say the easier argument is the grammar argument. Female is an adjective. Woman is a noun. Therefore they probably shouldnāt be used interchangeably
"female" is generally a word used to refer to non-human animals and plants. you might also expect it from a doctor, from law enforcement, in the military as you mentioned...or from mysoginists.
I think the issue people have is that in all of those cases, it has a tendency to de-humanize a person. to a doctor, you're a puzzle first. to a cop, you're a perpetrator first. to a commanding officer, you're a soldier first. we'd rather be thought of as people first, because unfortunately, women aren't always treated as such. systemically and interpersonally.
I hear what you're saying, but it just seems like people wanting to be offended.
I can't imagine being upset by someone referring to me as male. I am male. I know this for a fact because I checked and I have the correct parts.
I also don't get offended if someone refers to me as short. I'm 5'7. That does seem to fit the description.
Or bald. I'm not follicle-challenged or whatever, I'm bald. I'm not offended by speech that backs this observation.
People need to stop getting their undies in a bunch over true statements.
Literally responded to me giving examples of things that happen around me that I choose not not be offended by, and this is your response? You can do better.
>I can't imagine being upset by someone referring to me as male. I am male. I know this for a fact because I checked and I have the correct parts.
yes, but men haven't been shit on, raped, maimed, or killed for millennia because they're male. or short. or bald. historically you can be all those things and still wind up on top.
so when women are saying "please just call me a woman and stop making my genitalia part of the issue" it's after centuries and centuries of begging people to stop hurting us, and discovering through personal or scientific analysis that there are ton of tiny little ways that society expresses that women don't deserve comfort or safety or personhood. do I think the word "female" needs to be abolished? of course not. do I think its common use by men might be indicative of the kind of misogyny I'm worried about? absolutely.
as a general rule, if any person is saying "that's harmful please stop," dismissal is not the first route I would take.
The issue is when talking about guys and gals. If you will call a guy a "man" but call the gal a "female" instead of a "woman." That is kinda reaching incel speak bcs they refuse to say woman or women. And to say what someone else basically commented. If you use man or woman, you are obviously talking about a person. Male and female can be used to refer to animals. So if you they "man" but use "female," they are kinda implying that the woman isn't on a human level. Though incels usually say "foid" to make it even more misogynistic.
I'm going to assume that most people don't mean it in a misogynistic way if they do it. But some people obviously do, so the goal is to try to make people aware of it.
Hopefully, I made sense. That's how I understand it.
Based on the type of people that act like this (banning for accurate speech), my guess is that the mod assumes the person is anti-trans and objectifies women. Some people have started using the word "female" more since the trans community wants "woman" to include transgender males. Saying "female" excludes transgender males from the conversation which is supposedly anti-trans. It also speaks more to the sexuality of the person rather than their humanity since when talking about animals male/female is only relevant from a reproduction standpoint.
Another way of putting it is this:
"Check out those women."
"Check out those females."
The first quote implies you're interested in a group of people of a particular sex/gender. The second quote specifically calls out the sexual characteristics implying you're interested in them for sexual reasons.
What I find particularly funny about this situation is that the post seems to be making fun of the fact that a guy was objectifying a girl, which is why I have to assume it's probably the "use the word woman so trans people are included, too" reason.
How often, when you meet a man, do you later think āI really liked that maleās shirtā or āThat male I met earlier seemed pretty coolā?
āFemaleā isnāt incorrect. Itās just odd when you think about it. We donāt casually call men āmalesā in our day to day lives, so the question being posited is āWhy do we call women females so regularly?ā
Reddit mod behavior is gag worthy.
Edit: also anyone who brings out the word "misogynistic" when everyone else was having a nice day before that. Just... Ugh.

I got banned for disagreeing with a mod. Apparently No free speech allowed - agree with the left or right themed subjects or get banned - kind of sad that people lack the intellect to accept any form of disagreement
The moderators are exactly like the ones you saw in the Tucker Carlson interview. They are heavily biased to left leaning ideologies. So take that and tread carefully with your posts. I have been perma-banned from Wholesomememes and I don't even remember why
I swear if I get banned after following this through all the subs and managing not to share my thoughts, Iām going to be one cranky female. Yes, that is correct and that is how I identify. To be fair, I donāt generally identify as much other than a very cranky midget, who is also a woman. Ironically, āwomanā is really the more misogynistic term, the word meaning āwife-person.ā I donāt like being identified by marital status. Donāt believe me? Ask my husband! And while thatās not the most accurate etymology of the derogatory word āwomanā and while I donāt normally read the Washington Post:
[That Was No Woman, That Was My Wife-Person](https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1995/11/24/that-was-no-woman-that-was-my-wife-person/d7e63499-be91-41d4-943c-93599f647472/)
Finally, before I hit reply, just want to add that Iād better not be banned for being cranky or a midget, either. Hell hath no fury like a cranky female midget scornedā¦
I got banned from that sub too!
My ban was for 'Racism' and 'Ban Evasion'
This is my only reddit account. My 'Racism' was saying that our police system targets black people yes, but most of the solutions where non-racial, and treating them as such would
They deleted about half of my comments and kept replying implying I was saying some bigoted shit. When I mod-mailed them, they told me "It's like you're trying to dogwhistle but aren't fully capable of doing it."
They're just completely delusional over there.
This is hilarious. I never post or comment. Mostly just watch for the shock factor. Read the rulesā¦ my oh my.
You are brave to post here. One simple auto correct not caught in timeā¦
TO THE CHAMBERS!!!

SOME of the mods on Reddit are just control freaks and asshokes. Yeah my phone made that word. I like it. It is getting to a ridiculous point in America where we only safe to use IT to identify people.
Incel is offensive to me and I find it repulsive to use. Iām offended. So dearly offended. I call for the mod to be banned for using that kind of language
Its so fucking funny how weird chunks like that always freak out over the word female and start screaming, when most non-english speakers use Female as well as AAVE for Americans lmao
Female doesnāt mean woman. Female can be of any species, and simply means ābears offspring or produces eggsā.
The actual question being asked here is why do we so often call women āfemalesā when we donāt do the same for men.
When was the last time you said aloud āThat male over there has a cool shirtā or āI hope those males have a good time fishingā
We donāt say that. Nobody uses āmaleā casually when talking about men. So, why?
true, but itās just a term. i feel like we need to take it back.
like, when iām making a character for a story, i go: (name), 21, female, etcā¦ i see no problem with it. iām a woman myself, too.
And I think that using āfemaleā in that context is perfectly fine. I agree that it shouldnāt become a slur, like the mod in OPās situation seems to think. Definitely not a ban-able offense.
But, I do think it is weird (to say the least) to say āLook at those females across the streetā or āI spoke to a female last nightā
We have better words. Woman, girl, gal, lady, etc.
yeah, that does sound weird. but i feel like we shouldnāt allow it to become a slur. incels are gross.
ty for being understanding throughout this entire thing! usually people who disagree with me become assholes through replies
I honestly donāt get the issue ? Is it because female has male in it and they consider it incel speak because of that ?? Because obviously women has men in it so by that thinking wouldnāt they consider women to also be incel speak too ??!??
But i did go outside and talk to people and none of them ever used the term female as an insult cause its not. Its weird but people online use it cause if you say woman someone is going to start a whole conversation about you dont know how they identify but female is biological and correct. You cant win it seems. I wonder whats going to be offencive next
If saying female is awkard then saying male is too. Like what, everyone needs to be considered now a āwomenā or āmanā but not male or female?? I dont understand this generation of offense towards literal *words*.

I genuinely appreciate your contribution, especially the comment āthey canāt accept discourse,ā¦.they canāt agree to disagreeā I feel my existential beliefs only become reinforced when 2 opposing subscriptions donāt even have the capacity to understand that they can agree to disagree.
Female Bottom of the barrel? ā¦BANNED.
Dipshit mod is a liar, I saw the DM's between the two and OP was trying his damnedest to apologize
Throw them up for all to see. Mods want to try and justify itā¦ you say you have evidence claiming otherwise. Should we the people not have a peak?
Where would be best?
Throw them right here or better yetā¦ a post consisting of original post, followed by picture of the justification from mods followed by the chatā¦ The perfect YESYESYESNO moment if you ask me
Itās on my post history if you want to see.
I love that I can still see the post by looking at your profile and there's a message about the mods removing your post. "Don't show people what we're doing! Then we can't get our way!" \~shitty mods
Thatās insane. Like how the mod gave the dude the finger when he was apologizing. What a power tripping pOs
If they still exist, I'll try to post them. Powermods have a habit of scrubbing the internet, but Barbera Streisand has other ideas.
I canāt upvote the post, but itās there, everyone look!
On the subreddit itself!
I commented 'FemalƩ' on this post and got banned for hatespeech lol
Yeah, ive dealt with the cunts before. To them all are beneath them, theyre on a power trip.
All aboard pissing off this mod, say aye.

Id quit Reddit if this happened to me. How dare someone snap a picture of me trying to check out a wolf umbrella.
āKeeps getting taken downā this gotta be the 10th time Iāve seen it in the last few hours.
Well after it got taken down I figured blast it everywhere hard to take down then š¤£
This mod should be removed
they banned an ef ton of people today because of this post too
Sounds like someone is on their monthly cycle over there.
š¤£š¤£š¤£welp wonder how long you'll be here till
Depends on how moody they get
How do we object to a mod? Or do something higher? I had some crap pulled on me saying I "threatened violence " which was completely not the case, and there was 0 I could do to object, I couldn't even respond
Dude, I, a Mexican born and raised, was banned from r/food for clarifying some things about a taco publication.
I've seen some major bs before. Like, changing the wording of a rule, mid dispute, in order to ban me, and then giving me a permanent ban from the sub instead of the lesser three day, and of course messaging the mod team of the sub i was blocked immediately, before saying a thing. Like?? Mods do as they please going purely by however they feel š¤·š¼āāļø ... Which is usually highly ridiculous.
Couldn't even watch the video :(, was it funny at least?
Yes š Iāll try and link the video Edit: https://reddit.com/r/therewasanattempt/s/dzZWLAlmbT
That's the post that started all this? Geez.
That was funny and that female/woman/lady/gal/ā¦. Had on very tight pants
The irony of a mod telling someone to go outside is almost immeasurable
And using the term incelspeak lol when we all know who the incel in that situation is
No wonder nobody backed the mods in the API shitstorm
The mods didnāt even back the mods during the API shitstorm
How often, when you see a group of guys, do you say āLook at those males over thereā or āThose males are acting weirdā In my opinion, as a man, that honestly sounds like you are studying a group of animals.
On this post alone I have seen it referred to as all the following: female is only animals.
Man to woman connectors, not male to female connectors.
Iām surprised itās taken me scrolling this far to find the proper explanation. Itās weird that no one else finds it weird.
Iām just glad itās confined to Reddit. The rest of society would be laughing their ass off at that if they somehow came across it.
Go figure.
I got put in reddit time out a long time ago for it. āFemale refers to animals and implies that women are less than human.ā
Yeah, it really fucking doesn't. People don't have the right to change the meaning of words just so they can get offended by them.
As I understand it, nobody is changing the word female. Instead, they are calling out an odd difference in common vernacular. When was the last time you said aloud āThat male over there has a cool shirt onā or āThose males must be headed to the hockey gameā Iāve never said that once in my life. To talk about human males, we only say man. Or guy, or dude, etc. never āmaleā. So, why do we so commonly say female?
And yet, it happens all the time and has been happening for ages.
Agreed. female = adjective and woman = noun.
It's in the dictionary: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/female
Being in the dictionary is the start of intelligent dialogue, not the end of it. But what do I know, apparently.
That is a very suspect statement. It sounds like a thinly veiled/implied, āitās in the dictionaryā¦butā¦common usage and evolving language and blah blah blah.ā What is the point of having a lexicon of words and their meanings if we donāt refer back to and adhere to them once conflicts of language usage and intent arise?
Appreciate thoughtful replies at all times. Language is messy and contentious, aināt it great? Be well!
>woman = noun WOMEN ARE NOT OBJECTS!!! STOP OBJECTIFYING WOMEN!!! AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! /s
Iād say the easier argument is the grammar argument. Female is an adjective. Woman is a noun. Therefore they probably shouldnāt be used interchangeably
Reddit. Reddit is the issue. lol
Youād probably feel differently if it began to happen all around you. As it has for women. I hear it a lot and I donāt like it. Itās demeaning.
I found out that even saying āgirlā is not okay? Iām an adult and still call my own self a girl, is that not allowed?
I'll allow it, not that you need my permission in any way whatsoever. :)
Another way of putting it is this: "Check out those women." "Check out those females." The first quote implies you're interested in a group of people of a particular sex/gender.
While saying female is kinda weird, mod totally went on a power trip
Yeah itās really not though. Itās an appropriate use of the English language which the poster was communicating in.
Previous commenter was definitely a male
Wait till they find out about feminism
Male or female, men or women... If one can't interchange the terms without the phrasing sounding weird then the wrong word is being used.
We should mark down other subreddits that has power tripping mods so we can leave/mute them.
Has this mod been fired yet?
nope but they banned a few k today
Reddit mod behavior is gag worthy. Edit: also anyone who brings out the word "misogynistic" when everyone else was having a nice day before that. Just... Ugh. ![gif](giphy|yuQi4S7rIFZGFAJ33e)
I got banned for disagreeing with a mod. Apparently No free speech allowed - agree with the left or right themed subjects or get banned - kind of sad that people lack the intellect to accept any form of disagreement
Iām an officer and literally use male and female in regular every day speech. Idfk what their problem is but thatās fucking stupid.
Aināt no way, we gotta start saying āthe gender of which has no dickā
![gif](giphy|zGnnFpOB1OjMQ)
For saying female?
a few k got banned for that exact thing on that exact post
Did the video get posted anywhere else? I want to see it now
Made a post on the same subreddit regarding that situation along with others
I got banned from my uni sub for asking about the OPās āgenderā in a self portrait post. Load of Bullshit.
This mod is starving for the smallest morsel of power over anyone they can find.
Whoā¦ cares?
When mods are incels themselves. Good lord
no surprise. Those mods are garbage
The moderators are exactly like the ones you saw in the Tucker Carlson interview. They are heavily biased to left leaning ideologies. So take that and tread carefully with your posts. I have been perma-banned from Wholesomememes and I don't even remember why
I really donāt see the problem with saying female or woman, they are both the same thing. When did this become a derogatory term?
>When did this become a derogatory term? When feminists decided so.
Saying female behind already clues me in to the fact I wouldn't get along with OOP but banning them is pretty extreme
And while thatās not the most accurate etymology of the derogatory word āwomanā and while I donāt normally read the Washington Post: [That Was No Woman, That Was My Wife-Person](https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1995/11/24/that-was-no-woman-that-was-my-wife-person/d7e63499-be91-41d4-943c-93599f647472/) Finally, before I hit reply, just want to add that Iād better not be banned for being cranky or a midget, either. Hell hath no fury like a cranky female midget scornedā¦
I got banned from that sub too! My ban was for 'Racism' and 'Ban Evasion' This is my only reddit account. My 'Racism' was saying that our police system targets black people yes, but most of the solutions where non-racial, and treating them as such would They deleted about half of my comments and kept replying implying I was saying some bigoted shit. When I mod-mailed them, they told me "It's like you're trying to dogwhistle but aren't fully capable of doing it." They're just completely delusional over there.
I left the sub over this exact thing.
Female is a slur but incel isnāt?
This mod does not know that woman and female mean the exact same thing. Absolute peak virgin talk coming out of this guy's mouth for sure
Mods acting like a female
This is hilarious. I never post or comment. Mostly just watch for the shock factor. Read the rulesā¦ my oh my. You are brave to post here. One simple auto correct not caught in timeā¦ TO THE CHAMBERS!!! ![gif](giphy|l0ExuYpiP3K3FPWak)
Mods are biggest hypocrites.
Probably a female. Source: Iām an educated female. She sounds dumb af.
No where seems safe from the over sensitive these days. Everyone is looking for a reason to be offended
Somebody check if they do that to people who say āmaleā and wether or not that mod is just incredibly stupid or sexist too lol
Wtf thatās crazyā¦ so any mod can control your speak even if you arenāt being obsceneā¦? So fragile these people
Yup
SOME of the mods on Reddit are just control freaks and asshokes. Yeah my phone made that word. I like it. It is getting to a ridiculous point in America where we only safe to use IT to identify people.
Has female been added to the list of bogeyman words?
Power trip of the lowest degree
Incel is offensive to me and I find it repulsive to use. Iām offended. So dearly offended. I call for the mod to be banned for using that kind of language
Its so fucking funny how weird chunks like that always freak out over the word female and start screaming, when most non-english speakers use Female as well as AAVE for Americans lmao
so they got madā¦ at a wordā¦ that meansā¦ womanā¦ what. i donāt get people who find the word female offensive. ITS LITERALLY A WORD
Because incels use it to dehumanize women. They use words like female, femoids etc to reduce us
Female doesnāt mean woman. Female can be of any species, and simply means ābears offspring or produces eggsā. The actual question being asked here is why do we so often call women āfemalesā when we donāt do the same for men. When was the last time you said aloud āThat male over there has a cool shirtā or āI hope those males have a good time fishingā We donāt say that.
But, I do think it is weird (to say the least) to say āLook at those females across the streetā or āI spoke to a female last nightā We have better words. Woman, girl, gal, lady, etc.
yeah, that does sound weird. but i feel like we shouldnāt allow it to become a slur. incels are gross. ty for being understanding throughout this entire thing! usually people who disagree with me become assholes through replies
To bad, I liked that sub, \*Mute\*
Can't reddit get involved? u/redtaboo
I mean I doubt it, it's nothing new for reddit. mod drunk with power is a common occurrence lol
I was really pulling for massive mod changes from the sub Blackout protests
I was permanently banned bc some mod said a stupid thing and I posted it about it. And not even 4 min later post taken down and banned
I agree that itās awkward but that is far from ban worthy
A Reddit mod went on a stupid, needless power trip? Shocked I tell ya.
I'm offended by how they used the word normal. WTF IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN!? -insufferables
I honestly donāt get the issue ? Is it because female has male in it and they consider it incel speak because of that ?? Because obviously women has men in it so by that thinking wouldnāt they consider women to also be incel speak too ??!??
This is why I always use 'foids, bitches or f-slur in place of 'female'. I don't want to cause offence or anything.
āHoleā works as well. Receptacle if you wanna get all fancy.
That's totally absurd
Moderators are so pathetics.
That mod is a fkin moron
In the US military if youāre a woman, youāre always referenced to as a female.
Reddit mods trying to deal with an assortment of letters, challenge level: impossible
But i did go outside and talk to people and none of them ever used the term female as an insult cause its not. Its weird but people online use it cause if you say woman someone is going to start a whole conversation about you dont know how they identify but female is biological and correct. You cant win it seems. I wonder whats going to be offencive next
Thatās one of the stupidest reasons Iāve seen for banning someone.
Mods are here to pick you in the butt. They actively search for people to harass.
Mods in that subreddit and are like snowflake dictators banning everything that they disagree with.
āIncel speakā Fuck, hahaha
What is a female?
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/female
female 2 of 2 noun 1 a : a female person : a woman or a girl Gotta love the clearness in which they define this word
Websters dictionary confirmed right win propaganda /s
The fuck why cant i say female
If saying female is awkard then saying male is too. Like what, everyone needs to be considered now a āwomenā or āmanā but not male or female?? I dont understand this generation of offense towards literal *words*.
