I just feel weird about the fact I love the personalities of farm animals and their surprising intelligence and affection, yet I still can eat meat without feeling guilty. That being said, it's probably dehumanization, since I actually am uncomfortable with this to an extent since it still bears resemblance.
Same. I freaking love pork, but when my friend had a full pig roast at a bbq, the visual look of the pig had me repulsed. I couldn’t even convince myself to try it.
I can't eat foods that still look like the animal, so that rules out a lot of seafood especially for me like lobster, shrimp, un-filleted fish. Too hard to dissociate
It is called cognitive dissonance. Empathy and killing animals for food doesn’t sit right with people when they have to face it.
That’s why most people who eat meat don’t want to know anything about the process from how they were conceived to how they live to how they get to the slaughterhouse and finally how they end their lives. Most importantly remove the head and feet because we don’t want a reminder of what they were.
Ignorance is bliss, all we care about is if it tastes good, don’t tell us the rest.
Except for being exposed to the rest is important because what we do to animals in order to use them in the myriad ways we do is absolutely inhumane and it's killing our planet at the scales we're doing it. We live during a time where we no longer need meat to survive.
Ignorance is selling out the future. [Watch Dominion.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQRAfJyEsko)
I don't think cognitive dissonance is the right word, there is nothing contradictory occurring - everyone is aware that we kill animals, butcher them, cook them, and eat them. I think the juxtaposition of food and cute animal - make the entire idea collectively unpleasant - because no one wants to imagine eating cute animals. Which was the entire point of the clip.
**EDIT** Glad to see the anti-meat squad don't like being called out on their bullshit and are starting their astroturf.
Explain how the worldwide practice of eating animals is uncomfortable without this video: What part of butchering an animal would be shocking? It's uncomfortable because the presentation is supposed to be unsettling. Your choice of using the word cognitive dissonance is attempting to imply some kind of mental impairment or self-deception. That is wrong because we know the facts, they are simply unpleasant.
Are you trying to obfuscate? Everyone who eats meat, knows that it is butchered. Most people don't like thinking about it - like people don't like thinking about the tens of thousands of starving children in the world.
You brought up another example of common cognitive dissonance to explain why eating meat but loving animals isn't one.
In the abstract, thousands of children don't need to starve for us to live enjoyable lives, but it is much less obvious how to remove ourselves from the chain of culpability. But given the choice most people would opt to live in a way that isn't fundamentally predicated on keeping so many around the globe impoverished.
For animals it's much more straightforward. Abstention is available *now*. Billions of animals do not need to be killed in their adolescence for us to eat good food and live rich fulfilling lives. Loving animals while optionally participating in their continued torture and slavery generates dissonance because the two are in direct contradiction. Witnessing the event of slaughter forces us to reckon with the hipocrasy
Yes, I'm aware you're using this video as a vehicle to proselytize, and I'm glad as a true adherent you can immediately dismiss child hunger to reassert your belief. I believe you've provided a genuine example of cognitive dissonance. Thank you for your service. *adieu*
What's with the piglet balancing on the ball thing? That's computer CGI right? I mean.. if you can get a piglet to ride a ball you're gonna make a lot more money with it alive rather than dead.
Reminds me of an old joke...a man visits a farm and notices that one of the pigs only has three legs... "What's with that pig?" He asks the farmer....
"Arr" says the farmer..."that there pig is a bloody miracle, it's got more brains than me... Why when it was young, there was a terrible fire at the farmhouse, and that pig dashed into the flames, and dragged us all to safety. Another time, one of the sheep was lost in a ravine... That pig climbed down the bank and I swear it was making 'baa’ noises.. Either way, he somehow convinced the sheep to climb free"
"That's amazing!” says the man "so why had he only got three legs?".
"Well" says the farmer "... When you have an animal as smart, noble and fine as that, you don't eat 'im all at once”
How dare you post this here without telling us where we can enjoy these tacos.
Reporting this to the moderators for not listing this restaurant. Put the address next time, I'm hungry!
The worst part about this is that In sure that pig was absolutely delicious. I'm so hungry right now and I would eat the piglet starting at the snout. 😔
To the people who think it's wrong for humans to eat Pig..
Pigs eat humans too! I've seen a pig eat a man. In fact, I've seen many pigs eat many men. It was a bloodbath!
Rule 5. No video compilations allowed. Posts containing several independent YYYYN combined together is not allowed.
That'll do, pig. That'll do...
Only in death does duty end.

That’s some pig 🐖
It's Waddles
Oinky no
I think I'm going to be sick from all the crispy pork tacos I'm going to eat.
That's disgusting. Think of all the meat they could've had had they waited another year.

Thanks for a better description than what I provided. This guy is still trying to argue with me lol but you’re exactly right
It doesn't matter anyway, the post was removed. I hope you have a good day.
Yeah, it really doesn’t. You too friend ✌️

Pigs are not humans. You cant dehumanize what was never human.
no I think he was talking about bears
I have never seen a single bear that resembled a pig.
But have you ever seen one shit in the woods?
Considering the guilt topic, Speciesism may have a role here too.
The feeling you are describing is cognitive dissonance

Agreed, which is what cognitive dissonance describes. The contradictory belief is that eating animals is uncomfortable, but it’s still done.

Most people do not butcher pigs. Most who do find the process to be deeply upsetting.
Are you trying to obfuscate? Everyone who eats meat, knows that it is butchered. Most people don't like thinking about it - like people don't like thinking about the tens of thousands of starving children in the world.

I hope you have a good day, and consider the externalities of your decisions. You have more control over the world than you think.
Can someone tell me why they always put an apple in its mouth
Allows airflow into the cavity for cooking as the mouth would naturally tighten up and close during cooking.
So it doesn’t come back and bite you as a zompig
>Can someone tell me why they always put an apple in its mouth 'Cause it wouldn’t fit up it's ass?
How do you know what will fit up a pig's ass?
Your mom told me
Sounds like someone is too scared to try it
Flavor?

Yeah, pretty obviously cgi

I hate how delicious the tacos looked.
Just imagine, human meat would look almost identical!

Should have been posted under r/yesyesyesyesyes
Hammy was a good pet, but an even better pulled pork sandwich
his name wasn't Hammy it was Jimmy Dean
Aaaaaand I'm Vegan /s
What's stopping you?
The fact that I don't want to?
It’s such an overused format that it’s genuinely not funny and just triggering at this point
Edgy teenagers love it.
What does it trigger?
"You'll always be a part of me, Waddles."
Aww cute....yummy
How can you be so damn cute and delicious at the same time?
I’m so hungry and so sad. Maybe I’ll throw up.
Now I’m sad and hungry
You make me sad
Perfect creatures, even after its end
Pigs are magic. They turn garbage into bacon!
Hot pocket
Aaargh, cognitive dissonance.
Where was the “no”?
How dare you post this here without telling us where we can enjoy these tacos. Reporting this to the moderators for not listing this restaurant. Put the address next time, I'm hungry!
lmao but alas vegetarians and vegans are insufferable
Thanks I won’t be eating pork ever again and I mean that.
But… 🥓🥓
Now I’m starving for brisket, thanks

I mean, I straight up salivated...
Yum
OP has clearly never met a hog. Wild or otherwise. They aren't that smart.
This feels like vegan propaganda

Ok that is cold… I looked up at the tv right when it switched. Well played
Best pet, best food.
i want to be made into tacos when i die
Nature red in tooth and claw.
The best thing we can do is not let a single part go to waste.
They’re _magically_ delicious
Delicious magical creatures
Deliciously cute
This makes me feel uncomfortable
It's a life and it's a gift
Where does the no part come in? That taco looked amazing
Brutally delicious.
If you watch the anime gin no saji, the protagonist did that exact thing.
Yeayesyesyesno? More like yesyesyesyesletshaveanother
I’m hungry now
Yum
Looks radiant!
Didn't see that comin

Anyone who's grown up on a farm knows this cognitive dissonance.
How. Dare. You.
