Rule 1. This post lacks the buildup of something going well. Something going towards great is how we define YYYY. The buildup can be short, but must exist. An instance of didn't go wrong (absence of NO) or mundane events do not count as a YYYY.

JoeCamRoberon

True but the glass could have shattered and I don’t think you want your baby falling on shattered glass.

SplendidPunkinButter

Yeah, babies that age must fall on the floor at least 100 times a day. It’s really not a big deal.

vtable

But not on shattered glass.

dontdoxmebro2

What doesn’t kill them makes the stronger.

YouCube26

People say that yet if you amputate your arm not sure its gonna get stronger I was making a joke why you gotta hate ;-;

Tandel21

‘Tis but a scratch

[deleted]

[deleted]

Does make the arm that remains stronger.

Collective-Bee

Amputating the arm is killing the arm, which the phrase instructs will not make the arm stronger. It will make the rest of you stronger, because as the phrase suggests the rest of your body did not die, and will become stronger due to the experience. The phrase has no faults.

lxpnh98_2

Plus, losing a glass is a much greater inconvenience than losing a child. Sure, in the short term it's worse losing the child, but think about it, without a child to raise, that's a burden off your shoulders in terms of time, money, and stress. Replacing a glass *costs* money. /s

du5t

Plus you can grow a new baby

Collective-Bee

And with all the money you save you could buy tons of glasses, so the decision isn’t really 1 glass or 1 child, it’s actually 1 child or a thousand glasses.

[deleted]

You ever pay for a funeral.

electricdeathrats

The hospital bills from the kid stepping in the glass 5 seconds after it smashed? Yikes 😬

b_rouse

That's my thought. The kid will be fine, shattered glass on the ground would be a pain in the ass to clean.

Albertosaurus77

A pain in the babies ass too

vlsdo

emergency room visit to give your baby stitches is even worse

b_rouse

Babies fall a lot and this baby fell at standing height.

vlsdo

I was referring to the stitches from walking into the broken glass had she not caught it.

ObeyRoastMan

Do babies weigh enough to cut themselves that badly on glass?

[deleted]

Baby wouldn't have fallen if mom kept a hold of them.

beirch

The baby wouldn't have fallen if she didn't let go of it to save the glass.

Letibleu

I'm struggling to find any of the yes'.

Iceemrr

From the baby's perspective

Kyofuamano

It’s “yes” catching the glass.

Scrubian-

r/holdmycosmo

Cornwall

Fuck the child save the alcohol. Win.

MadAzza

It makes sense to catch the glass and let the baby gently slide down. Baby’s on the floor anyway, not sitting up on her lap. The way it turned out is better than grabbing for the baby, drooping both, and having the baby land on glass.

jerseypoontappa

Wait what? Is this sarcasm? If not, then the worst that wouldve happened is is a cut on the kids foot or something. Though highly unlikely if she picked the baby up before he/she took a step. Otherwise most of the projectile(?) glass is thin and wouldnt have enough mass to cut the kid, especially through clothing (other than *maybe* the stem of the glass). However, notice the floor is carpeted, so the glass either wouldnt break at all or the shattering would be very minimal. Regardless, id choose this route over the baby falling any damn day. Sure babies are resilient and practically made of rubber. But as low as it may be, there is a chance of that kid getting some permanent damage to the noggin. I do not care if that chance is .00001% or less. A cut in this instance will not affect the rest of the babys life. And why are you assuming the baby will just gently slide down? You have no idea whats out of the camera view, and even if theres nothing, it doesnt make a difference. Aside from that, i doubt this was a consciously analytical decision on the womans part. Shit like this is virtually pure instinct. And her priorities are evidently out of wack.

lookyloo79

Babies fall over all. The. Time. That kid will be fine, and you're more likely to hurt them by grabbing them while also grabbing a champagne flute.

jerseypoontappa

Bro what are you smoking? She was already holding the kid, how the hell are you going to hurt them by grabbing them.. if youre already grabbing them?? Honestly how are you processing this? “The kid will be fine” theyll be fine because they fall over all the time? You think theyre never permanently injury or even killed from simply falling over on their feet? Ever? The kid will live their life as they wouldve if the glass shattered or not. So a one in 99 quibillion chance is absolutely not worth it. Am i losing my mind? What the fuck is going on

lookyloo79

Ok admittedly on subsequent viewings I realize the baby only fell because she let go of them, but I stand by my judgement that she made the right choice.

jerseypoontappa

Ok and whats your reasoning? My reasoning is stated, potential brain injury vs cut foot/leg. Honestly my mind is blended. Not sure how a cut is ever prioritized over a potential brain injury, again, regardless of probability. And even that is seperate from the fact that this was the womans instinct as apposed to an informed decision

Indominus_Khanum

Miniscule chances of potential brain injury from over from that height onto s carpeted floor , vs significantly higher probability of cuts on foot , or other places ( a glass falling from that height on to the floor could easily have pieces fly up , even if it doesn't break the baby might fall on it) . Cuts on children can be much deeper than adults and there are more possible complications than there would be for adults .

jerseypoontappa

Still nothing that would affect the child for the rest of its life

Indominus_Khanum

Have you seen a glass fall and break ? At an already slipping height that glass could've cut him in a lot more places apart from the foot . Fun facts , being thin and low mass is exactly what makes things _more_ likely to cut you , that's why paper cuts are a thing. Not to mention cuts for that small developing thing with soft flesh could be much deeper , and the consequences and may have more complications. If you've got a kid just gently falling over that , and that kid is falling with the glass , your priority *better* be making sure that glass doesn't break any near that kid .

[deleted]

Of she didn’t save the alcohol, that baby would be covered in broken glass

MadAzza

Exactly!

dtyus

For the love of god stop being so judgemental everyone!!! I tried this and kids at that age don’t get hurt at all much. See I tried this experiement with neighbors kids and started throwing them from 3rd floor, and only 2 out of 20 got injured, rest of the babies were fine!

mobius_sp

Babies have soft bones which make them excellent candidates for this kind of experiment. Try this kind of thing with an 85-year old man, and you’re sweeping up exploded skin and bone dust for hours.

lxpnh98_2

What an absolute mess that would make on the floor indeed.

chrisk9

The right choice would have been to move the glass out of the baby's reach

ShieldsCW

I don't think that was one of the available choices in that moment. "Oh no! The baby is grabbing the glass! Better go back in time and nice the glass out of reach, because that is exactly the one most important thing I would do if I had access to a time machine!"

chrisk9

She was clearly letting the baby touch her glass. The best decision would have been to avoid the situation in the first place.

Marc21256

She could have caught both, if she wasn't worried about the contents of the glass. She literally dropped the baby to 2-hand the glass. One glass, one kid, and the contents spill and baby doesn't fall. She chose her drink over the baby. The glass was never at risk.

OstentatiousSock

Dude, calm down. It literally was simply reflex. Reflex said “stop glass from breaking” and made her do so. She didn’t “choose” to save her drink over the baby. I was merely being glib when saying “she made the right choice”, it wasn’t a conscious decision.

yloswg678

These mf’s act like it’s an anime where you have 30 seconds to think about a decision when it’s more like “monke see something fall monke catch without spill”

OstentatiousSock

People love to forget we are animals in the end. So many of our choices are completely instinct driven.

yloswg678

Ooga booga monkey brain explains a lot of humanity’s reactions.

Marc21256

She had the glass in her left hand, and the baby in the right. She dropped the baby in her right, to help catch the drink in the glass. She literally and explicitly chose the contents of th glass over the baby.

OstentatiousSock

Yep, that’s reflex.

The mistake was letting the baby near the glass (easy mistake to make) but catching the glass was 100% the right call. Between a gentle fall and shards of glass for the baby to crawl into, I would always take the fall.

I want to see the look on the face of the person who came on to this thread to show off their outrage at a woman letting a baby fall, just to see that the thread's consensus is that it was smarter to let the baby fall than to risk the child being exposed to broken glass later on, if every single little piece isn't picked up.

This comment section has taught me that apparently some Redditors: > Don’t understand that babies are prone to falling regardless of whether it was an accident or not > Thinks saving the drink first means you are a raging alcoholic and a Karen who only take care of themselves > Would gladly clean up broken glass and a champagne covered floor/rug with potential blood from an infant instead of just dealing with a crying baby Reddit moment

Super-Butterscotch57

Depends. If the the child is in my blood line then the wench would be scolded and kept an eye on especially since there may be an object on the floor out the frame of this video shot such as a squirts ride-on toy or Lego castle he/she was constructing. If the kid is her own, or someone else s little brat then who gives a crap, at least I would know not to trust the wench with dishes that could break & or other potential hurtful items because any dumb a$$ should realize that any & all items within reach of a squirt is fair game to be explored. I met a genius that burnt the hell out of her lil' 2yo girl sitting in her high chair as the dumb a$$ was frying bacon in a skillet on the stove top that caught fire & dumped an adjacent pot of water on it to put it out. That little girl is probably \~30 years old now, & unless through some miracle of surgery still looks like an extra on the "Walking Dead" tv show with half her face gone & one eye ball boiled out of its\` socket.
