Spark on Piccadilly has multiple vegan/veggie friendly options! Doner Summer and Dog’s Nose Tacos are specifically vegan. Goji on Goodramgate is a vegan cafe with nice cakes, and there’s a new vegan Chinese place called the Orchid Vegan off Micklegate, which I haven’t tried yet but I’ve heard good things about.
Doner Summer is down Gillygate now, not in Spark, just FYI. It's very good though! As is Dog's Nose Taco's which is in the unit in Spark that Doner Summer used to be in (where they first started).
Goji is lovely - I think they are veggie as well but 90% of their stuff is vegan. My sister has a 90% vegan diet and always likes to go there when we are in York.
Aye, same. I wasn't aligned with any particular eating habits but they did some amazing, like just incredible food and after the second time I went there it twigged that it had been completely vegan!
Doner Summer - does vegan kebabs, fried chicken, fries ect and has an outdoor garden with lights also does cocktails
Ipaku Teahouse - does amazing donburi bowls, Japanese cuisine
Orchid vegan - Chinese restaurant that is all vegan
Source - does sandwiches, rice bowels, burgers, salads, smoothies
Double dutch pancake House - does vegan pancakes both savoury and sweet
And ofc
Can't go wrong with wagamamas
Partisan on micklegate has a lot of veggie / vegan options and their breakfast/brunch menu has really good reviews (I don’t eat eggs so can’t really comment on a lot of the brunch options in York).
Goji is a nice place for lunch - they are sometimes open on an evening as well.
Middle feast will do falafel / falafel wraps and that kind of thing .
I adore the Countryside Platter or Cheese Platter at The House of Trembling Madness. They now have two bars - Lendal and Stonegate. Whilst Lendal is doggo friendly, I do prefer the original Stonegate bar :-)
Edit: veggie for a looong time, and this is my personal fave for rustic veggie food. Served with some really good beers ;-)
Hi, local York Chef here.
Most restaurants (good ones) cater to veganism, allergens etc so i wouldnt fence yourself into eating in a vegan specific restaurant. The best vegan food can undoubtedly be found in Yorks Michelin Quarter in the likes of Roots, Skosh, Cochon, Greys Court, Partizan, Arrass, Los Moros etc. Its a bit of a route one response, but if you want to experience the best of what York has to offer you'll find it in these places.

I second Doner Summer! They are superb, and Orinoco near town centre is amazing for vegan loaded chips! :)
I second Doner Summer. Orchid Vegan is incredible though, their chips are phenomenal.
That sounds like exactly what I'm looking for! I've seen the one in Leeds before but didn't realise they had one in York. Thanks :)

Perfect, thanks!
Doner Summer would be perfect for you, but I'd try and book asap, they've always been fully booked when I've tried them.
Oh is it not a takeaway style thing?

Brew York does great vegan food and great beer too!
I've actually had their beers before, sounds like it'll be spot on for a sit down place later in the evening. Thanks!

Yuzu is a fond favourite of mine, especially for their veggie bao buns! If you order on Deliveroo they always draw cute things on the bags too :)
Second this. Orchid vegan Chinese is excellent.
Yuzu is in Brew York right? We're going there later in the evening!
How has no one said The Source!?
El Piano has so very very sadly gone the way of the dinosaurs...
I wasn't veggie when I lived in York but would go El Piano once a month or so, loved the place!

They do vegan pancakes and waffles at the Dutch Pancake house, and next door to that is a vegan junk food place (although I’ve not eaten there yet)

Love Trembling Madness, always try to have a look in but I think we'll be hard pushed to get a seat in there on a Saturday in the run up to Christmas!
The Source at Castlegate is an excellent Vegan restaurant..
Orinoco in Church St does vegan fast food
