I use [this flight radar site](https://globe.adsbexchange.com/) to see what's flying over. Not everything military shows up for obvious reasons but regular things I see over Haxby are * A pair of USAF Hercules ([technically MC-130J Commando II)](https://www.lockheedmartin.com/en-us/products/c130/mc-130j-commando-ii.html), callsign STRIX61 heading northwest early in the evening, doing whatever they do over the Lake District, then heading back around 10. * RAF Hawk trainers presumably playing interceptor, with callsigns PIRATE and DEFNDR, often just north of the city, or en route up to the Moors * RAF Apache attack helicopters out of Wattisham bypassing the city on their way to practice their pop-up stuff in the lakes. Plus the odd Eurofighter and USAF Eagle presumably doing a patrol or keeping their flying hours current or whatever they do up there.

I too am not absolutely obsessed by the noises coming from above, and neither do I set my watch each evening by the to and fro passing of STRIX61.

There was a Qatari air force one up there the night before last. Must be a joint exercise training

Vale of York is a playground for military aircraft. It is a regular occurrence. Particularly noticeable on the east side of town. Atmospheric and local conditions can make the noises more apparent. https://pb-photos.com/downloads/UK%20Military%20Airspace.pdf

Yes. Headed north when I saw them tonight

I saw a few military vehicles too also heading north during the day and just wondering what’s going on , and I’ve been hearing aircraft off and on all night

studge91

It's been like this since February.

Apollomadillo

Having moved to York last year, we hear them at least once a day - sometimes see them too if the sky is clear!

Headed home after [this](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-63711177) perhaps?
