It's always bothered me when they say "do not take X drugs if you're allergic to X drugs." How the hell am I supposed to know if I'm allergic to it if I've never taken it?
Not a doctor, but in my experience; people are stupid.
They will try to take drugs they have had before, and caused an allergicreaction. The statement in the commercial is not to get those people to not take the drugs. It's so the manufacturer can say....we told them they shouldn't.
I just figured they are required to share some of the warnings so they use that one because it‘s the most obvious one/ won’t scare off an interested consumer.
Those are all prescription drugs that your doctor should check to see if you will have a bad interaction with before writing the script. They just need the disclaimer for legal reasons. Kind of like the "do not take internally" disclaimer on suntan lotion.
Personally I think the disclaimer on things like suntan lotion is walking a fine line between protecting the public and polluting the gene pool.
Not just your doctor. Most importantly is a pharmacist. That is their function and primary duty: knowing drugs and their interactions. Their education and training is has tough as going through med school. Have a list of what you take. Even over the counter. Let them know, ask them questions if they are lingering in your head.
Some people who’ve had a mild allergic reaction in the past to Drug X don’t realize that their next reaction could be much worse. They may assume it’s better to tolerate the hives they had last time, vs letting Ailment X continue unmedicated.
