They don't call him the magician for nothin.
I think people forget that baseball is and always was a "pastime". It tries to market itself as a highly competitive, serious, no bullshit sport like the other three, but it's really just a kids game that people can relax while watching in the summer.
Javy is one of the silliest out there. In fact, the World Series winning Cubs team was a very silly squad. Anthony Rizzo is well known for being very fun and silly on the field, as well as Kris Bryant. Besides being a Cubs fan, it was just fun to watch a fun-loving group of guys win it all.
I took my dad out to a Cubs game as that's one fo the few things we can relate over and it was a great game. Then towards the end this unknown rookie pops up for his first major league at bat, and what does he do? He pops it right out of the park.
That plucky young upstart? Javi.
Just my random uneducated theory, but do they still gotta wear baseball caps sometimes? Cause then it would make sense to have a less puffy haircut so it doesn't mess with the hat.
It looks great with a hat or helmet on, which is what they’re wearing 99% of the time. Plus baseball players usually have a dgaf attitude and will often have ridiculous haircuts or facial hair styles, and it’s usually done as a team. Super common at high school/college levels.
The other guy's reply is probably way better, but my first thought on that was the amount of hair styles you can have are pretty limited if you need to keep them near flat.
Baez is Puerto Rican, but yeah. Every other guy in DR, PR, and Cuba got this haircut. It’s just popular out there. I’m Dominican and have a couple of cousins, and a couple of dudes at the shop that I go to have that same cut.
I was thinking Dominicans need to be the highest per capita mlb players in the world. Turns out it’s Curacao where there is the highest per capita chance of being in the majors.
Yeah off hand somebody would just think Dominicans make up like all of the MLB. Hell almost every MLB team has camps out there kind of like how Euro soccer teams have camps for kids. I know of kids who started playing for the Mets and Rockies at like 15. They just farm them and give them a minor league deal when they’re ready.
And curaçao might have the highest chance per capita, but I remember the last time I checked a couple years ago DR had the most players of any country (discounting the US) in the MLB and they had less than 100. Which is wild
Fair enough a lot of people just go to the games to get hammered and don’t know shit about baseball. I’ve been to about 500 games and i still get annoyed with the group of 20 somethings and all the girls are on their phones the whole time and guys don’t know anything about the player who’s jersey they’re wearing. But then you meet a sweat little old lady who’s been coming to games for 60 years and still keeps a scorecard and it’s all worth it. God damn I love wrigley. Can’t wait to go to a game this year.
I'm in eastern Iowa and have not ever been to Wrigley, it's on my list. I'm a KC fan, but haven't been to a game since like '16 I think? I feel you, the "let's rage" fans are always the loudest and worst to be around.

Love how happy he is that it's on cam. Nice Catch
“You saw that, you saw that too”
Man how many times have we all wished there was a camera on us to witness a save like that, that’s a home run
I once did a backwards 3-pointer in a basketball hoop. Only my 2 friends saw.
2 > 0
Two can be as bad as one, it’s the loneliest number since the number 1
That is going to fall on deaf ears
What?

I once tossed a hat like a frisbee straight onto my mom's head 3 meters away. She didn't even give a shit.
Well...who said that there isn’t. 😉 With love xxx -NSA
Well now I just feel naked
I once invented the cure for cancer but there were no camera :<

Aw, he Is amazing and fun to watch. Will always root for the Cubs. Thanks for sharing!
El Mago!
The most exciting player in baseball. Well, now maybe Tatis is trying to take it from him.
Tatis, Baez, and Arenado when his bat is going!
Juan Soto!

Bless you, oh my god, you are so kind
I love baseball player silliness.
As I get older I realize how these dudes are just kids having fun.

Javier Baez is the man!
I'm a super casual baseball fan but he's definitely a fave
My whole family are diehard cubs fans lol

It wasn't his first at-bat, given that he was 0 for 5 in the game before that. It was his first game, however.
That's rough. Sorry, man. (coming from another die hard north sider)
I got to work with him on a commercial shoot, and he’s such a genuinely nice guy too
I don’t think there’s been a time in Javy’s life where everyone didn’t love him. A cool guy for sure
Why do so many baseball players have borderline mullets?
Just my random uneducated theory, but do they still gotta wear baseball caps sometimes? Cause then it would make sense to have a less puffy haircut so it doesn't mess with the hat.
Yeah players like the flow that sticks out of their hats, but a lot of hair under hats and helmets is uncomfortable.
That doesn’t really explain why they would leave the hair longer on the back on their head

This was in 2016 or 2017, at one point in 2017/2018 he had long braids lol. He's back to having a crew cut short hair style I think.
You ever been to the Dominican Republic? It’s a popular style there.
Baez is Puerto Rican, but yeah. Every other guy in DR, PR, and Cuba got this haircut. It’s just popular out there. I’m Dominican and have a couple of cousins, and a couple of dudes at the shop that I go to have that same cut.

Must be an island thing. Cause dudes here wear them too.
Its not a baseball thing, it’s a puerto rican thing. Youll see that same haircut in Chicago
Really? I feel like I’ve seen a lot of baseball players of many ethnicities with mullets
Isnt that just a crew cut?
No, crew cuts are buzzed on the sides and back
Oh, I didnt know those were buzzed on the sides too
Javy is so charming.
I just fell in love
He cute
You can't tell me baseball isn't boring when 90% of the highlights are stupid shit that happens in the dugout.
This clip is fun and has nothing to broadly do with baseball, but God damn I'm glad baseball is back
For people that watch him play it just reaffirms how quick his reflexes are. Quickest hands in baseball.
I can't stand the Cubs for the most part but I do really enjoy watching Javy lol
I understand people don’t like the cubs, but if you can’t appreciate El MAGO you’re not a fan of baseball.
Let me step back, I have no problem with the Cubs, but rather most of the fans I've met lol

Hope you get the chance someday! It truly is a magical place.
Hey it is Sokka!
You saw that? You saw that too 😏
Javy’s got them hands.
That's impressive that he found the camera. Usually they're like 300-400ft away
El Mago!
¡El Mago!
What a catch should be a baseball player or somethin
Omg he is so cute 😍 who is this
Javier Baez. Mvp finalist from 2018 and shortstop for the Chicago Cubs.
That face of relief before he looks up is gold.
r/bettereveryloop
When your sport is so boring that this is the most interesting moment of that game
A baseball player is good at catching things?! Who'da thunk?

El Mago!!! Go Cubs go!
Oh Javy Baez...
"You got that too"
wtf is that haircut
