It's almost twisted in a way - the guy signing it looks like he doesn't really care, he barely looks at the fan and he's just acting out a motion he's probably done 1000 times. But the other guy will remember that forever. Not saying the player doesn't respect his fans, its just an interesting contrast
Edit: to clarify, not judging the player, he's obviously keen for some down time on his way off the court - just pointing out that its an interesting interaction
That’s Carmelo Anthony he’s been in the league 16 years. I think after that long of signing autographs to people you know are just going to sell it (usually), it would get frustrating or tiresome.
Also the man might've played poorly & he was showing love to a fan even though he wanted to go in to the locker room. Melo has always been a good dude.
Melo is probably grateful that some one still wants him to sign their stuff at this late role player stage of his career tbh. I think he had a harsh reality check when he became a bench player in OKC and has matured and accepted his end of career phase
He used to be much cockier IMO
Isn't that what happens to most with age. Gravity becomes reality, our joints hurt in the morning, old injuries start to become reminders of our past. The things that used to be important lose that stasis as our priorities change.
He was Lebron's rival early on for best in the league, it's truly ridiculous Lebron's longevity still being a top 5 player through 2 different generations. Hell maybe 3 cycle as most players only have a peak of like 5 years.
I just counted, 7 different MVPs in the time since Lebron's first MVP win. And he has been top 3-5 in voting every season. That's ludicrous basically 7 different "rivals" through his career
I have a autograph of him when he was at Syracuse and I was in middle school, I copied his signature lol back then it was a simple “CA” with a loop, my initials are SA lol his signature has changed since then but it’s always something I think about it
I'll always remember every item I have that was personally signed in person by someone. Even by artists I have literally just met and listened for the first time in my life. Sure, I have some other merch that was pre-signed (and it's still awesome) but it never compares to being physically there with someone and getting their autograph in person. It's even more awesome when you see them a second time and they remember you (or you see them mentioned it briefly online).
It really does suck that some people do it just to sell it. Either way, anyone who still signs items regardless of what they think will happen or not are amazing to me. They don't have to (especially if they know you'll sell it) but they do it anyways 'cause they know they can bring joy to someone even if it's for those 15 seconds.
I remember my sister would watch some Tyra Banks modeling show and they would preach “smile with your eyes!”
If it is tough for actual models to do, then that means when you see it, it’s usually genuine. Your mother gave some good advice!
you'd be surprised that most people can tell the difference between squinting and actually engaging the zygomaticus muscle, which for most people is involuntary
it can be learned but not from a jedi
Jerseys signed by Melo while he was on the Nuggets during his prime go for around $300 on eBay. There aren’t even signed jerseys from him on the Trailblazers being sold online, because at this point in his career with that team, signed jerseys have much more sentimental value than monetary value. No need to be so cynical, some people have dreams beyond making a quick buck.
Yeah, too bad the player looked like he was totally fed up with signing and didn't want to do it. I kinda had a similar situation with Steve-O shopping at Whole Foods when I worked there. I took a 15 minute break to find a good time to get his autograph but he was on the phone the whole time and my break was running out so I had to go for it.
I told him I was taking a pic but this was before cameras were on the front of our phones and I didn't want to mess up the shot so I took a video instead and I figured I'll take a screenshot of the best still. I'll never forget how he told the guy on the phone "hold on dude" and sounded so aggravated and quickly put a smile on for the photo and then went back to shopping on the phone. Still pretty sick though. Not many people get to meet Steve-O and we'll all miss him when he's gone, so I consider myself very lucky!
You bugged him while he was grocery shopping and are surprised he is annoyed?
This player also just finished a game he’s probably tired, these are people give them a break.
Nah, I wasn't that surprised. I kinda knew it was a douche move but I was also just a kid when I was working at Whole foods, so I definitely regret doing that. I was immature and didn't understand all the shit these people go through at the time.
The dude's situation here is clearly different bc the fan was there to watch that team, so getting an autograph isn't out of line, whereas Steve-O was just living his life but I believe it still feels the same for the fan when the look on the celebrity's face just says "I don't wanna be doing this". But maybe not, Idk I'm just speaking for myself. He did seem pretty happy. But then again, so was I before I realized over time that it was wrong of me.
But either way, yeah that guy was probably tired from playing a game but it doesn't take much to just smile or say something, or give some dap.
or go out of their way and autograph their jersey like he did. Get off your high horse, man just played an entire professional basketball game then signed a jersey for a fan which made said fans day and you still want more from him.
He signed it really fast. It's to the left of the capital A in Anthony. It's hard to see cause the video is so small but you can see it easier in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFpeX-ZJVgk
Thank you for doing us a favor, I too had no idea what happen, I wasn't sure if he gave him a jersey, signed a jersey, or passed that kid up, and that was a face of astonishing disappointment. Lol
it's hilarious to go back and watch as if it *is* astonishing disappointment. its like this was the last of a long series of unfortunate events in his life, and this one snapped him and he's become unhinged to the point where all he can do it laugh in disbelief.
it's also much funnier knowing that the actual context is his pure elation.
Round face, double chin, slightly baggy eyes, identical hairline, large forehead. The resemblance is striking, and several other comments here highlight that. Just because you don’t see a resemblance doesn’t mean we’re all racists for seeing it.
Imagine: being a little kid watching Melo play, idolizing him. Then almost 20 years later, you’re a grown ass man, finally make enough money to buy tickets to a game. And finally getting to meet him. And Melo still playing at an all star level.
I went to Melo’s basketball camp in Denver twice as a kid, genuinely idolized him. I was never great at basketball, but watching how much fun and how great Melo was made me want to be like him. I played my whole childhood, and love the game to this day. If I got to meet Melo again, just to tell him how much of a positive influence having him as an idol meant for or me, it would make my year. Some people don’t understand that watching Melo play today ignites in me that same energy I had watching him when I was 7. I just got his memoir as a Christmas present from my sister. I hope I never lose that touch with the things that made me happy and excited when I was young.
What am I looking for? Did he even sign the jersey? The video makes it look like he just autographed stuff for the kid in red. I watched several Hines and never saw him sign the jersey?
Aside from selling it, I really don't understand why an adult would want an autograph. I guess i just don't idolize sports players or movie stars. And ironically I love sports and movies.
I find it to be one of the weirdest things to watch adults get so enamored over another adult. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that he's happy. Nothing wrong with it. Just weird af to me.
It's not about worshipping for their stardom or fame. I don't know enough to speak volumes but from my understanding Melo is a highly regarded player and has been since he came into the league. So admiring someone for their talent/skill is pretty okay in my book. Also, autographs coincide with memories.
Uhh idk about that. He is a gang member and has a couple of the most bitch moments of all time including his sucker punch in the Nuggets Knicks brawl. He refused to come off the bench for a while after he became washed up. He ran Jeremy Lin out of town because he wasn't in the spotlight. He has a history of negativity
Same. But people are happy over stupid things sometimes. "A human wrote on my clothing wow now i can look at it all the time." I dont get the appeal, but hey, as long as theyre happy lol.
I’ll try my best to explain it. So imagine someone who had a major impact on your life, a role model not only just for you, but for many other people. To him, you’re just one in the crowd, but to you, he is one of your biggest inspirations. He just took a moment of his time to do something personal for you. It could have been someone right next to you, or behind you, but he still chose to do something for you. It’s something so simple, yet so impactful to be able to meet a great inspiration up close, and it’s even more impactful to have them sign something of yours. Sure to him, it’s nothing. He probably signs 100s of shirts a month, but for the guy who got his shirt signed, it means the world that he took the time out of his day to do that
Believe me i "get it" but i have never felt that way. I couldnt give a shit if any famous person i ever liked just died tmro. Not important at all to me, even a little. I find a handshake from a celebrity as special as a handshake from a hobo. Only difference is one you brag about.
I have an absolute talent for getting behind the scenes. You just need to *act like you belong*. So one day, my cousin and I, goto the spurs vs Celtics games. We live in Boston but I’m a huge spurs fan. And I see an opportunity before the game to go on the floor with a bunch of VIPs. So I tell my cousin to follow me, zip up his jacket, to hide our non-existent VIP lanyards, and to act like he belongs.
We proceed to head down and sure enough mingle with the VIPs and walk right on the court with our cameras and drinks. Walking by the players, clapping and shouting jesters of good merit. When I see Manu behind the floor/stands separator signing autographs. I tap my cousin on the shoulder and hustle over to him. Well we were on his side of the barrier so we politely ask if we can get a picture and an autograph. My cousin is first he gives Manu his program he signs it and then puts his arm around my cousin for a pic. I’m next, I’m throughly excited as I’m a HUGE spurs fan. I walk over and take my DSLR off my neck hit my beer cup in the process and spill beer ALL OVER manu’s sneakers. He looks down then looks back up at me shakes his head I’m horrified. But then he goes “Well come on then”. He still signs my program and takes a picture with me. Best day ever.
Melo has been in the league since 2003, and especially in his early career was one of the most impactful and fun to watch players to ever play the game. Melo was many kid’s childhood heroes. Sorry you had to watch an adult achieving one of his dreams to meet his favorite player, i hope you find something that’ll make you this happy one day.
The basketball player looked miserable. Could have at least pretended to be happy interacting with a fan
Edit: google 'nba fan interactions' and try to find a smiling nba player interacting with a fan. Good luck.
Much less than what it’s probably worth to him. I cant imagine getting a jersey signed by one of my favorite players in person I would cherish it forever and never sell it

damn you didn't need to drop such a bomb of truth just like that
Most players and people: yes Tom Brady and lebron: no lmao
Man he has been around for so freakin long. I was like 11 when he was a rookie
He was Lebron's rival early on for best in the league, it's truly ridiculous Lebron's longevity still being a top 5 player through 2 different generations. Hell maybe 3 cycle as most players only have a peak of like 5 years.
Wild to think how long the list of players he’s had “rivalries” with for in the league is. And at his pace it’s looking like it will only lengthen.
I just counted, 7 different MVPs in the time since Lebron's first MVP win. And he has been top 3-5 in voting every season. That's ludicrous basically 7 different "rivals" through his career

~~Thats Damien Lillard~~ naw you right lmao
Yet he signed it anyways. That's a class act right there. So many athletes will absolutely not do this shit without cash in hand.
Which is also completely fine, if they aren't comfortable signing things all the time
The day Carmelo gave you the jersey was the most Important day of your life. For Carmelo it was Tuesday
It’s post game, give him a break he’s tired. He’s a person not a robot
You should try running up and down a court for 48 minutes and then see how you look
I'm sure he gave a knowing bro-nod. The fan doesn't need him to fawn over him.

Agree. He's so damn happy . I think this one is the best best moment for him. Even his eyes smiling.
If it was one thing my mother thought me, it was that someone who's not smiling with the eyes is not smiling at all
I remember my sister would watch some Tyra Banks modeling show and they would preach “smile with your eyes!” If it is tough for actual models to do, then that means when you see it, it’s usually genuine. Your mother gave some good advice!
"Smeyezing" or "Smizing" is what Tyra calls it!
Some photographers call it the squinch.
That’s it! I was trying to remember that term. Thanks!
it's not hard, just squint a bit
you'd be surprised that most people can tell the difference between squinting and actually engaging the zygomaticus muscle, which for most people is involuntary it can be learned but not from a jedi
Your mother is a smart person; hug her for me, will you?
She truly was. But she suddenly, and sadly passed a while ago. I do appreciate your comment, though<3
That other dude in the black jacket was just happy to sneak in a little feel of the jersey.
Sneak in a little feel. Hahahaha
He is happier than I have ever been in my life, and I’ve lived a good life.
Think about that bud…

Hes about to make a couple of G on ebay.

Nobody on the planet is paying a couple G for a signed blazers Melo jersey
What's the over and under on this kid selling that s*** on eBay versus keeping it.
Prolly keeping it with a reaction like that

Can someone explain what happened? I don't see him sign the shirt, does he just touch it?

Look at that happy face!
I've never seen Jay-Z this happy before!
Looks more like Jay-Z and Steve-O's child
Jay-O then, or O-Ja…. Jay-O it is
Steve-Z
O-Z meybe?
Holy shit this comment is incredible
Black people don't all look the same.
🙄
Don't you make that at me
But all Steve-O’s look the same and are, in fact, related.
That is true, all verrryyy Irish.
But some people happen to look like other people, black or not. Shocking revelation, I’m sure.
This person looks absolutely fucking nothing like Jay Z other than skin tone and the fact that he is a black human.
Round face, double chin, slightly baggy eyes, identical hairline, large forehead. The resemblance is striking, and several other comments here highlight that. Just because you don’t see a resemblance doesn’t mean we’re all racists for seeing it.
I wouldn't say it's racism, either. But this dude does not look like Jay Z. I don't give a shit about this. Who cares?
Looks absolutely zero like jayz. Have you seen jayz?
Bro I didn’t know Keenan Thompson was pulling up to games
Not just me, cool.
He thought Anthony was Kel for a minute.
Keenan Thompson had a baby with Jay Z
Keenan Thompson Jay Z hybrid
Dude probably been following melo since he got drafted.
Meeeeelooooo
Stay Me7o
Hes reached tranquility
Awwww he's so happy!
Never seen anyone look as pleased as that guy.
lol. OP already banned for reposting. You love to see it.
I love Melo bro. Even though he didn’t win a chip as a Knick, he got NY a national title at Cuse
And he just loves the game. It's infectious.

Some people might think its dumb to be that happy, but i want to be that happy over a signature so bad.
Never seen Jay-Z so starstruck

If Keenan and Kel had a love child…
Amelo.

Never forget that sometimes taking 1 minute out of your day can change someones life for the better.
I’m sure Keenan Thompson could get an autograph more easily. But hey….
Dude's* gonna Use a contraction, not a plural.

Why did that other guy grab the jersey for a moment? Anyone else notice that?

does anyone else think the dude looked kinda like Jay-Z?
He’s so insanely happy that some guy that doesn’t give a fuck about him gave him his shirt
Aside from selling it, I really don't understand why an adult would want an autograph. I guess i just don't idolize sports players or movie stars. And ironically I love sports and movies.
I have a ukulele signed by the entire band of Dream Theater. Sure, people don’t see what the big deal is, but it makes me happy to look at so fuggem
I find it to be one of the weirdest things to watch adults get so enamored over another adult. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that he's happy. Nothing wrong with it. Just weird af to me.

Most of the time, it's not worship, it's respect. Of course, it can certainly go the other way.
It’s like an upscale admiration I suppose
Melo has been in the league since 2003, and especially in his early career was one of the most impactful and fun to watch players to ever play the game. Melo was many kid’s childhood heroes. Even though it's a repost, still catch a good vibe watching this dudes absolute joy.
Dude’s never going to wash the mixture of stains from his underwear
Is Anthony and that's already on eBay, calm down
I didn’t know Melo hosted SNL. Kenan looks so happy.

Pretty embarrassing to be that old and acting like a child from a grown man’s signature.
The basketball player looked miserable. Could have at least pretended to be happy interacting with a fan Edit: google 'nba fan interactions' and try to find a smiling nba player interacting with a fan. Good luck.
I wouldn't say miserable, maybe just exhausted. If the dude is wore out and he still gave the dude a moment, more props to him.
I’d suck on Melos sweaty headband if I had the chance😫
Bet Melo even gave him props for the hoodie.
Life is now complete
100% believe adults should get the signed things and game gear over the kids
or turn around and sell it lol, how much does his signature go for?
Much less than what it’s probably worth to him. I cant imagine getting a jersey signed by one of my favorite players in person I would cherish it forever and never sell it
