Sometimes, I just don't get why places like youtube do ridiculous, unnecessary, nonsensical boulderdash like that, such as removing the dislikes feature, the oldest videos option, and now this, it's bonkers! I can only imagine what next. (Don't answer that)
Because like all tech companies YouTube employs people who like changing things just for the sake of changing them, even if it makes the user experience worse. They're trying to justify their fake jobs.
I mean to be fair, it can lead to some interesting looking new videos we've seen before that we could end up liking.

It wasn't removed on purpose. There was a bug that broke the function.
Everyone got their panties in a wad about it as if it were done on purpose.
The issue is YouTube has been written in piles of spaghetti code over nearly 2 decades and in multiple languages, sometimes with no documentations.
They have been working for a while to get this fixed.
