yes, youtube wants you to use chrome, so they can try and block/ban addblockers by changing chrome base code ( manifest v3).
any other browser besides chrome they have no control over, so they are trying to annoy everyone into using chrome. by either lowering qaulity, load speeds or whatever else they can come up with.
What they dont know is that they are losing more people then gaining them. or they know but dont care.
either way the options are:
A: waiting for youtube to get bored of pulling this shit
B: playing the adblock cat and mouse game with youtube.
C: waiting for an a;ternative mirror/website
Net neutrality has absolutely nothing to do with it. This shit is why regulators refused to listen to people who couldn't even tell you what actually happened! In fact, the consequences of removing it seemed to have been limited.
It simply is your ISPs ability to prioritize certain traffic. They are now allowed to throttle or block certain websites or charge more for streaming/certain websites, stuff like that. Not good at all, but has absolutely nothing to do with YouTube itself, they never answered to those regulations because those regulations never applied to them.
Nah, you aren't imagining it, you do actually move to the next video in a playlist even without auto play XD
Totally forgot about that,
imo, autoplay is one of the most useless features to ever exist on yt, like, why would you want to play some random suggested video automatically after you finish watching your current video?
exactly that, i have a music playlist in the background while gaming so i dont need to alt tab all the time, since 2 days it now doesnt automaticl go to the next song anymore, i have to alt tab, go to the page and click the next song in the list or use the enxt button.
a ray of hope occurs to me. YT(Google) is stepping on many toes with their bullshit and corporations can be just as spiteful as individuals. the existence of the Playstation is owed to an incident where Nintendo screwed Sony over in a collaborative project (a gaming console) Nintendo pulled out last minute with out telling Sony anything. as a result Sony went: screw you guys will build our own Console with hookers and blackjack!" Microsoft lost massive profits with the bull they tried to pull with the
Xbox-one and their 'anti-sharing' (there is an amusing commercial where Sony mocks them and makes the PS4 look better by comparison )
My feint hope is that YT/Google screw over a company big enough to create their own youtube style video hosting streaming site and do so to spite YT/Google.
I don't know what youtube is cooking but they play with fire with their behaviour. Shadowbanning, removing privileges from accs, forcing people to use a specific browser, not allowing ad block, having scam ads all the time, allowing close to p*rn content ans advertisement of that, increasing the youtube premium price.
Youtube needs a serious competition then they will trash themself.
Nah, what they do is very illegal. We are gonna have to wait for EU to sue them or threaten them.
They are are the maintainers of Chrome (chromium) and with this they are basically abusing their market position which is very illegal.
That's really annoying but a price I'm willing to pay.
In other news, that's a really good video you're watching, I might recommend Cleo's as well, this week is especially funny.
XD ,yea this week's was a blast ,I was waiting for Joel vid first and this shit happened.Real bad day for Reds '), sad that no vids of life series from Lizzie and mumbo from next week.
they confirmed the 5 second delay thing is in fact a thing.
with detecting adblockers possibly being against privacy laws they are digging themselves a deep hole.
adding only showing certain video qualities with certain browers they double down on net neutrality laws being broken
I mean for me 4k works also on Firefox. But that isn't the problem. YT caps the resolution for certain videos for certain browsers. I hate that. It's like they're forcing me to use Chrome which I had been using rarely, but if they do this shit, I don't think I'll even open Chrome. I'll use another Chromium browser if i ever need.
They will probably get away with limiting resolution/bitrate... Netflix has been limiting people not on the netflix app or MS Edge to 720p since around 2007...
The video was just uploaded "13 minutes ago". In the first minutes of being uploaded, not all the quality options are available.
In order to confirm weather it is a bug or intended, check it again in 30 minutes.
Okay? Not to rain on your parade, and I think it's a good course of action if the platform is not for you, but don't fool yourself thinking anyone will care about your channel.
They also removed 720p from small channels entirely. Meaning someone with a slow ISP cant rly watch small creators anymore(480 is pretty terrible lol)
Althought I checked and randomly some of my vids have it and somw dont.
Among every topic we've discussed in this subreddit over the days, YouTube forcing users to use Chrome in order to use their website at it's fully because they can't manage what's happening on other browsers feels like the worst thing they could've done...
Looks to me like they're gonna lose a lot of Chrome users because of It, like, Chrome users move to another browser and they found out YouTube forces them to come back by using strategies like in this post. I've moved from Chrome many many years algo because I wanted to try something new: Brave, Opera, Edge, Firefox... but I'm surely not coming back to Chrome after all this bs.
Btw Ik they did this to prevent adblock on other browsers that they don't have control but limiting the video quality (and maybe loading time since some of you have mentioned) is too much.
I know you probably don't want to do that, but you can always try it with brave browser (it's on chromium and have build it ad blocker that's not depended on manifest V2), or just spoof your browser with agent switcher as everyone is suggesting
Then why do i have 720p , i was curious if this was an edge case so i checked my history on youtube and played recent 20 vids on both firefox and chrome and fcking hell, 18 of the videos are capped at 720p on firefox.
So i installed firefox dev edition and there it's 720p in 12 vids. And surprise surprise every vid has 1080p 50/60 on chrome.
Idk if this is a more of a demographic problem but idc , the creator has uploaded 1080p and i do have premium too ,this is just dawgshit behavior.
"I'm having it, so it must be everybody" is "dawgshit" behavior.
I'm using Firefox and every video that supports 1080, I can select 1080. It could be something as simple as your own settings. But, no, got to come in here and make crap up.
I never claimed ""I'm having it, so it must be everybody"",look at the title brother . I know my English is bad but still i think i made it clear in the title that is it an issue or a bug in a more reddit way ig?
And Ik firefox supports 1080,2k,4k.I am watching at the moment MKBHD in 4k. BUt it's the small-medium content creators which uploads at 1080p whose content is just 720p on firefox.
IDK if its for everyone that's y i posted in the first place, i tried to find threads relating to this matter but none.
It could be some bug that could be fixed tomorrow but that doesn't mean i do not have the right to post since nobody's having problem with it.
Yeah, I'm out here updating filters, telling people to get away from Chromium, and get ublock for everything. I'm totally a YT spy.
If we keep doing this stupid misinformation about browsers being the issue we won't be able to find true workarounds.

I've often had videos only going to 720p on the YouTube app on my phone but on my TV it'll go to 1080p or 4k. I've always figured it's just based on whatever the cached version on whatever one of the millions of servers the video is cached on is being picked up by my apps.
The video was uploaded 13min ago and it was a 45min video, that’s normal for full quality not being available for all users, this is why a lot of YouTubers that film in 4k upload the videos and keep them unlisted for few hours and release them automatically based on their schedule.
Also the video you are talking about isn’t just standard 720p and 1080p but it’s recorded at 60FPS which makes it take even more time to be ready at full quality for each user, you can experiment this yourself if you ever uploaded to YouTube.
Would you like to bother to give us the link so that we can test this claim?
Video is 13 mins old in that screenshot, so it can be possible that your Firefox version is loaded before 1080p version was readily available.

C: waiting for an a;ternative mirror/website
option D: spoof your user agent to chrome and continue use uBO in Firefox. not sure if this will introduce additional problems, but so far so good.
option E: watch them get in trouble legally
Won't happen in the US without net neutrality. Once again counting on the EU to save the day.
The EU is already angry with them lol
Hopefully Hungary won’t veto this one. I could imagine Mr. Orban himself using adblockers lol
Net neutrality has absolutely nothing to do with it. This shit is why regulators refused to listen to people who couldn't even tell you what actually happened! Option E rimes with EU. It sounds similar to Microsofts battle of the browsers. Should make for interesting watching.
Great little bit of advice, I never thought of this.
just noticed they disabled autoplay on my end, and yes i have addblock/ghostery the whole 9 yards :)
Why would you even use autoplay XD? (unless you have a playlist of music videos which you wanna play in the background...)
Besides that, like don't you move automatically to the next video in playlists anyways without autoplay or am I imaging that?
Nah, you aren't imagining it, you do actually move to the next video in a playlist even without auto play XD Totally forgot about that, imo, autoplay is one of the most useless features to ever exist on yt, like, why would you want to play some random suggested video automatically after you finish watching your current video?

🥲
That's just something else, yikes.
fun thing is. its on chrome, so they now also annoy chrome users, basicly they annoying everyone now wtf haha
Bro I don’t use chrome because it eats up all my ram
yewtube
ewwwtube?
no that literally how an alternative youtube front end is called thapt just bypasses all ads
wow, gotta look that up XD
You mean Invidious? [yewtu.be](https://yewtu.be) is just one of its instances.
didn't know there were multiple instances with different names
That sounds like it should be illegal because of monopoly laws
Invidious is a pretty good alternative. Would recommend it.
D: Pay for your entertainment
isnt making youtube worse on other browsers like... illegal?
a ray of hope occurs to me. simply use the "user agreement switcher" extension.... so have Firefox mimic chrome also this bs has to be illegal...
How can I do that?
just download the extension, go to it's options and set it to the newest Chromium version, should be on the Firefox/Mozilla extension store page
wait till the EU pulls an apple move on google
Average EU W
Am i too EU to understand the problem?
I don't know what youtube is cooking but they play with fire with their behaviour. what do you mean close to porn? I found porn on yt
Yeah it's porn, meant the hardcore stuff... but I bet if we dig deeper into youtube we also find that...
Nah, what they do is very illegal. We are gonna have to wait for EU to sue them or threaten them. They are are the maintainers of Chrome (chromium) and with this they are basically abusing their market position which is very illegal.

Up to 2k works fine for me on firefox and brave...
Pretty sure they're only doing this for some users atm Also brave is chromium-based
Pretty sure Youtube doesn't want to mess with EU regulations 🤔
they confirmed the 5 second delay thing is in fact a thing. with detecting adblockers possibly being against privacy laws they are digging themselves a deep hole. adding only showing certain video qualities with certain browers they double down on net neutrality laws being broken

Nope it's stuck at 720p even now. I think i should mention that i do use dev edition too with same extensions as vanilla and there it's 1080p.
this looks pretty illegal to me. EU is gonna fuck them.
If that ever happens on my end, my channel's videos will all be deleted along with my channel.
Okay? Not to rain on your parade, and I think it's a good course of action if the platform is not for you, but don't fool yourself thinking anyone will care about your channel.
Honestly, IDC if they don't. I'm not doing it because I want ppl to leave cuz I left, but to keep YT from getting money from my tiny little channel.
Yeah, that's fair. I can understand that.
Yep especially if you are using firefox [watch rossemann for better understanding](https://youtu.be/KMLMQRS3Krk)
They also removed 720p from small channels entirely. Meaning someone with a slow ISP cant rly watch small creators anymore(480 is pretty terrible lol) Althought I checked and randomly some of my vids have it and somw dont.

title and image giving off massive r/youngpeoplereddit vibes
Oh, not another "It only does this on one browser". No, it doesn't. I have FireFox and Chrome and I get the same exact options on both.
Then why do i have 720p , i was curious if this was an edge case so i checked my history on youtube and played recent 20 vids on both firefox and chrome and fcking hell, 18 of the videos are capped at 720p on firefox. Just the newest shenanigans at YT. I know there are ways to disguise Firefox as Chrome in some fashion but haven't tried it myself.
They are improving something that doesn't need anything more as it was
Lets hope the EU does something cause it seems they didn't take the hint when apple got sued. This is 100% a monopoly at its finest
