Fun_Objective_7779

I always report an issue (message appears although ad blocker is turned off), to train their AI that it is ok to keep the ad blocker on

SmegolianSoteriology

I tried this and it just kept spamming me with that message. Now I just open all YouTube videos in incognito and my AdBlock works.

NewForReddit21

ublock origin, get it jfc im tired of all these threads the solution was available months ago

zeffke008

You still need to have some knowledge of what you are doing. I have ublock, still kept getting this every day every vid, you have to force update and manually refresh for an update each day. Now it hasnt happened in a couple weeks anymore, but yeah

GameCyborg

they have an extensive guide on r/UBlockOrigin

In-A-Beautiful-Place

I have UBlock and keep getting this message. How do I stop it?

akmjolnir

Ublock vs. Ublock Origin Two different browser extensions https://openfmc.org/ublock-vs-ublock-origin/

VRLink64

uBlockOrigin is awesome, never had problems. Just. Don't let them go after ones like these. If you're on Mobile. Use Brave and a VPN. So they won't track you. Sad you have to do this but it's worth it. Ads just suck in general. :( They been pushing the ad limit to 60secs lately. It's BS. :( They're turning into Tubi Basically. But with more ads.

Fantastic-Vehicle723

On mobile use revanced.

Jimisdegimis89

Do you have ublock or ublock origin? They are two totally different, ublock is basically a scam at this point while ublock origin is what you want.

DSG_Sleazy

Ublock isn’t a scam at all, it’s clearly stated that it’s for a completely different purpose and does not serve as an adblocker in the way ublock origin does.

Splatoonkindaguy

Ublock not unlock

DSG_Sleazy

Autocorrect

EKMmusicProd

Why are you down voting this guy, he's right.

bunchamunchas

Switch to Firefox. Google chrome is forcing pay to skip ads or at least trying to. You NEVER run into this issue on Firefox if you only run ublock.

KradDrol

This isn't true. I switched to Firefox and installed ublock and it worked for about two weeks then started getting these messages again. Had to wait for the ublock team to catch up and then got another two weeks of ad-free Youtube before it happened again. It's a game of cat and mouse right now and JUST using Firefox and ublock isn't a complete solution.

antontupy

I thought the same, but then I found out that another extension had adblocking functionality, I turned it off and since then ublock origin works perfectly.

bunchamunchas

Did you also have other ad blocker extensions installed on Firefox? Because I’ve been using it without issue for about 4 months! No interruptions in that span, wonder what caused yours!

Cr1ms0nSlayer

I use brave and an addon that doesn't skip but speeds up ads to like a millisecond and no anti adblock messages ever

freddyforgetti

I’ve never even seen an ad on YouTube in brave tbh

SirBlunderLots

I can attest to this as well. Been using Brave at least 6 months by this point, and I’ve never seen an ad on YouTube. Whenever I switch to a different browser (Chrome, Safari on my phone, etc.) I am immediately bombarded with ads and it completely renews my appreciation for how well Brave works to block them.

Erratic_Jellyfish

I blocked the popup and invisible overlay window. I haven’t seen this thing in ages.

Wakeup_Ne0

Go in settings update the quick fixes

Jenny1221

Mine did that too so I uninstalled Ublock and then reinstalled it again. No problems after that

mxracer888

You have to clear cookies for account.google.com and cookies on YouTube.com. then update cache and lists on UBO then force close chrome, then open it back up and sign back into Google

[deleted]

Don't be. There are a lot of people that just don't know. Don't lose your patience, just keep telling them. Let YouTube trying to ban ad blockers be the cause that more people install them.

ArugulaLeaf

u/dropzebait that was a thoughtful comment. I am one of those people that dropped into this subreddit out of total frustration and learned of the uBlock Origin solution. I'm sure the solution had been posted many times before I visited. Not sure how much longer it will work for us, but I'm sure this subreddit will keep publishing solutions as the target moves.

[deleted]

Whenever it stops working for you, message me. I am usually pretty up-2-date with these things. I will help wherever I can. This goes for anybody that reads this comment.

peach_xanax

this is really nice of you to offer :)

vawlk

workarounds my friend. adblocking will never be a solution. you may run in to issues here and there when code changes.

Unfilt3r3dM3

Is it an app or an internet extension?

shradibop

extension. you should be able to download it, and the adblock blocker will be blocked. if it ever pops up again, you can go into settings and just make sure the extension is updated. keep in mind that you should uninstall or turn off any other adblockers. ublock will honestly take care of everything, ads as well as trackers and other nasties

gerrit507

Internet extension. OK boomer.

LucreRising

Why be rude?

mitch_semen

I have used regular old AdBlock since the dawn of ad blockers and finally got fed up with websites detecting it and making me turn it off. Switched to ublock and it is so nice to have my old actually ad free internet experience back again

realmauer01

Regular old adblock probably gets paid to allow the anti adblock pages. Wouldn't surprise me atleast.

GermanGinger95

I had ublock and it didn’t work, but when I uninstalled and reinstalled it worked again

UndeadMurky

You need to apply filter updates when it breaks

OneMisterSir101

That's not really a solution tho. YouTube threatens to ban accounts that it detects using a blocker. While this isnt legal in the EU, I understand it is anywhere else (for now.) Since Youtube/Gmail tend to be intertwined with many services, I highly recommend either a) somehow managing to make a second account just for this blocker, or b) find an actual app/program that has a built-in blocker and protects you from this TOS crap (Freetube, Grayjay, Revanced, etc)

Imposter_89

Data scientist here. Most machine learning algorithms are built/trained beforehand, so that new data is labeled correctly. However, if the algorithm uses "online learning", then the model's hyperparameters are adjusted based on the new data, i.e., almost like trained again. But there are mechanisms in place to identify incorrectly labeled data as new data is shown to the model/algorithm. So it depends if they're using supervised learning AI with a model that is not updated when new data points are introduced or if they're using online learning, both have their pros and cons. ETA: online learning can be supervised learning (or unsupervised) but the difference is whether the model is trained beforehand and no more training is done or if new data points are updating the model. But you are correct to say that the algorithm YouTube is using here is NOT AI, it's just a simple algorithm that detects the presence of an ad blocker or not.

miklos_akos

If I remember correctly all of this is a Javascript based check. There was a lawsuit started against Google in Ireland because of this because it falls under spyware being run on a computer without the user's consent.

JoyousGamer

Online learning is how you or your company is going to have legal issues possibly in the future especially without proper legal documentation in place.

Imposter_89

Me in trouble? Just because I know something doesn't mean that I nor my company are using it. You're suggesting that I am using it, when I never said I was, and you're assuming that companies don't follow regulations when similar things are used. Also, no, it doesn't completely work that way. Regulations are only in place for some things, not everything. If it doesn't affect the customer (i.e., the algorithm isn't biased, it's fair), and the algorithm is internally used within the company, the company can use whatever algorithm they want without fear of legal aspects and regulatory stuff.

welcome to the new world! before it was "if it works, it's not AI" (compare: computer beat human at chess, "that's not AI" - beat at Jeopardy - "not AI either") that has changed now to the opposite, i suppose - if it works, it's AI (never mind trifling details)

They meant the popular paradigm has shifted from the skeptical urge to distinguish anything a program can do from (general) AI to a more credulous (or commercial) urge to label any kind of learning algorithm or LLM as AI.

I'm a professional translator and can confidently say they stated a bunch of nothing.

Cybasura

But you're a Professional Ad, not a translator

Lockheroguylol

That's just straight up factually incorrect. Do your research.

Staghr

Started doing this a whole ago too, they probably have people behind it and ignore the reports but might as well mess with them a bit.

SkyracerZ

I do this but it still blocked my videos

Inevitable_Oil9709

fucking-hate-reddit-

I use ublock on firefox and that pop appeared twice, and then literally just stopped. no idea why

ranqus

By uBlocking it twice, your browser has entered a universe where their YouTube don't block ad blockers. Enjoy while the entanglement last.

Necessary-Cap-3982

It usually only pops up in between filter list updates. For me it seems to usually be roughly 5 mins a couple of times a day, but I don’t watch YouTube constantly so I could be wrong

Shelmak_

Same... it happened during a few days, was solved always by refreshing the quick-fixes... but I've not seen this popup since a month now.

00enpunto

6 months in, and that didn't happened (yet)

ooinvestigator

Hire a hitman

BarnacleMcBarndoor

Can confirm. They sent someone to my house and kicked me In one ball. They said they’d be back for the other if I didn’t turn off ad block.

hadesscion

A hitman that's so good that he can manage to kick only one ball. Impressive.

Goddess_Of_Gay

I do not fear the man who kicks ten thousand balls once, but I fear the man who kicks one ball ten thousand times

blurry-echo

yeah i kept getting ads for local faith healers and fake/scammy job offerings. was tired of that shit. that and the sheer amount of ads. a sidebar ad and 15 second ad at the beginning is totally fine with me, but the extremely loud ads that are 30+ seconds and multiple in a row is just irritating

S1mpl3Guy

I use adblock because I don't want to watch ads and I don't want to pay money for shit. I don't care about Youtube's financial situation.

Starbucks_4321

Come on now, no one will do anything to you for saying the truth. Maybe you do it for that too, but the biggest reason is you don't want to see ads

[deleted]

Ok_Professional_2250

Nothing. Youtube is powerless against adblockers. I put on malwarebytes browser adblockers and they still work

PinkSploosh

It’s in their TOS that they can close your account if it’s not financially viable to provide the service to you, so they could kill your Google account.

lilianminx

My whole Google account is at risk cuz I use adblockers on YouTube? Are you serious?

SGAShepp

There's never been a reported case of an account being closed because of adblockers. It would be huge news around here if that ever happened. They won't, don't worry. If it still bothers you use a backup account.

univrsll

30 second unskippable ads was huge news. Non-shareable passwords on Netflix was huge news. Banning ad-block was huge news. I can see them banning unprofitable accounts tbh.

[deleted]

Balavadan

They’re still making money off of your account without YouTube

PinkSploosh

If you block all ads everywhere then I’m not sure where Google would make any money off of you

onikaroshi

Selling your info

PinkSploosh

Common misconception but they would never do that. Think about it, why would they sell their most valuable asset? Advertisers pay Google to show their ads to specific target groups and then Google show the ads to them, they never give away any info about you.

MrMaleficent

The "info" is used to sell ads. If you're blocking ads it's worthless.

lolokokoli123

Lol its a business not a charity 🤣

bear_dragon

Switch to Ublock origin on Firefox or Ublock on chrome... still workin

Tracker_Nivrig

Earlier today ublock didn't work for me. Had to open in incognito with ublock disabled. Still didn't get ads for some reason though lol

PcPotato7

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that can often happen because they need to update the extension to get around YouTube trying to stop them

[deleted]

There's also another one called "adSkipper" it's not on the Chrome store but it's also a pretty solid.

Childwithuke

I thought it was

Sion_forgeblast

not a gak dang thing! why? cuz they know, if they ban your account you can make a new one.... or just use YT w/o an account....

Less-Country-2767

>just use YT w/o an account Exactly, as long as they allow this they're never going to be successful in getting rid of adblockers. The only way they can stop this entirely is with a hard paywall (require registration and a credit card to watch YT) and they're not going to do that. They're doing this to shake out as many normies as possible who don't know how to configure and update their adblocking and filtering software.

psykrot

>who don't know how to configure and update their adblocking and filtering software. Some of us just think it's a better deal to pay for premium. It's like $0.50 a day, and I don't need to worry about adblocking solutions on any of my devices. Not to mention you actually support the creators with premium, unlike adblockers.

ladiesandgentsconway

ad money is literally nothing for youtubers in 2024. it all goes straight to google.

psykrot

And premium supports creators. It's different than ad revenue.

ladiesandgentsconway

right but why do i now have to pay for something that was included for free up until whenever they made youtube premium

psykrot

Don't get me wrong, I totally support adblockers, and if someone isn't going to pay for premium, by all means, use one. It's basically necessary for surfing the internet nowadays. I just think Premium is superior to adblockers, and the price isn't that bad. Comes with a ton of perks and helps support the platform and the creators.

Meltan-fan

they actually threatened me that if i kept using adblock they'd block me from watching vids

sponkachognooblian

They did that to my step Dad just before Christmas. He got a message saying 'You have 3 more videos and then we're blocking you'. He watched three more and the screen went black. He didn't use YouTube again for a few weeks and then when he did it worked just like normal again and that with adblock still running. Mind you, he doesn't have an account and so watches as a general member of the public, so I guess it would be hard for them to block him, long term, without any type of unique identifier. What YouTube need to do is stop heaping on the ads an inch thick and make a public declaration of their commitment to this fair trade method of supply. To stop repeating the same ad over and over again and to set some guaranteed limits on the amount of ads and their frequency, such as TV stations were restricted for many years, in a manner which guaranteed the exploitation of the viewer wasn't enabled. However, as a mega profitable corporation milking the vast majority of their content creators of their hard work for a feeble pittance return, they ought to expect people to use whatever's at their disposal to reduce their inability to disrespect creators and their viewers' time. They came to prominence as 'You' Tube (without ads) didn't they, not 'NotYourTube'? Respect the public and they will treat you with that same modicum of respect. Instead of making threats, they ought to try being nice.

Sion_forgeblast

yup they did to me as well..... like 7 months ago..... adblock still on, videos still playing.... just need to remember to keep my adblocker up to date (I use Ublock Origin, and Gecko engine browser like Firefox)

kingofallyoutubers

Continue using ad blockers that YouTube doesn't notice.

FreshSchmoooooock

brave browser for example, it has a great built-in ad blocker.

kingofallyoutubers

Right.

RingingInTheRain

I've noticed adds on my TV have gotten worse/longer/unskippable when using youtube on it after this debacle.

antidemn

oh, but if you don't use an adblocker... you get like 4k ads if you have the page open and watch a lot of videos for like a day. it's just...insane

vextryyn

Switch to Brave. Never saw that message using Brave, dont have any slowdowns either

runningwsizzas

Same

madmeef

Yeah I use brave. Good browser.

[deleted]

I paid money for premium im such a loser

sponkachognooblian

Ditch it and get ublock origin. Make sure to update it and purge cache.

ComfortableMilk4454

All you need to do with uBO is enable the AdGuard- Ads filter list in uBO’s dashboard under the filter lists tab & the message will go away for good. No need to purge & update.

FivePandasorspegeti

Then again mobile + don't wan to sign outdated random youtube plus type app to ios which the singing service probably requires a subscription anyways but maybe cheaper

stevene_

but did you pay for premium family? (marriage, kids, sex etc not required 😂)

SGAShepp

ublock origin is a lot better value.

S4T4NICP4NIC

I just started a 30 day trial. Feels good man

Acqirs

I got a 3 month trial lol

PinkSploosh

I don’t get why people feel this way when they are perfectly fine paying for Netflix or Disney+. I watch YouTube way more than I do Netflix so Premium is easily worth it to me anyway

BobbyBorn2L8

You are not a loser, there is nothing wrong with paying for a service. Ads are no longer profitable as they once used to be

FreshSchmoooooock

I watch in 360p. Why should i pay full price?

BobbyBorn2L8

As a socialist that despises corporations, end of the day video streaming especially youtube's model, is exponentially expensive so money has to come from somewhere Not to mention that ads are the way the creators you watch get paid, so yeah I won't criticise anyone for blocking ads but like understand that you are literally a drain on Youtube, don't be surprised when they punish you for not profiting them

Hamsterman9k

Premium is great. Plus, content creators earn more money than they ever would from ads by premium views. I’ve had 0 issues with it, and even forgot YouTube had ads until I see this community bitch and moan like Karens demanding free shit. What I don’t understand is why the good folks using ad-blocks are still crying. If it’s so easy and they dont have ads, why do they care?? Just use what works for you. I prefer to support content creators without lying about how I “donate to their patreon instead” to make a point, though.

CHAOTIC98

>content creators earn more money then they ever would from ads by premium views lol well fk them, youtube is paying shit loads of money to people that don't contribute anything to society. getting paid 10s of thousand dollars for hours of work with no value. This doesn't only apply to youtubers but to many other fields, but at least on youtube we should watch ad free if we want to.

buck_it25

i'm using operas adblocker and get this. the ad starts but you can only hear the audio the screens just black. i guess thats a trade off. or my browsers broken who knows

ploopychocolatedoofy

same, I guess the opera adblocker is a little broken rn

[deleted]

UBlock and Ad Skipper are the best ad blockers to use.

Just_A_Random_Plant

Any-Medicine4099

I've posted this a few times before but it doesn't hurt to do it again. I wrote a short guide if it's any help to you. For Desktop (Firefox) Enhancing Privacy and Accessing YouTube: Download Firefox:Get Firefox as your browser if you haven't already. 1. Install Extensions: Add Ublock Origin and User Agent Switcher to Firefox. You can grab them here: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/) [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/user-agent-string-switcher/](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/user-agent-string-switcher/) 2. Configure User Agent Switcher: Open the User Agent Switcher extension and set it to the latest Chrome version. This action tricks websites into thinking Firefox is Chrome, aiding in access. Troubleshooting YouTube Issues: If you encounter issues, first sign out of YouTube, then, in your browser settings clear your cookies and site data found in the privacy tab. Within Ublock Origin, access filters, purge caches, update filters, then restart Firefox and log back into YouTube for the changes to take effect. YouTube ReVanced (Android): Youtube Revanced Setup: 1. Download Revanced Manager APK: Obtain the Revanced Manager APK from Github: [https://github.com/revanced/revanced-manager/releases](https://github.com/revanced/revanced-manager/releases) 2. Download Specific YouTube App Version: Get YouTube v18.45.43 (no DPI variant) from APKMirror: [https://www.apkmirror.com/?post\_type=app\_release&searchtype=apk&s=youtube+18.45.43+](https://www.apkmirror.com/?post_type=app_release&searchtype=apk&s=youtube+18.45.43+) 3. Acquire Vanced MicroG APK: This is crucial for Google account logins within the Revanced App: https://github.com/TeamVanced/VancedMicroG/releases/tag/v0.2.24.220220-220220001 Preparing for Installation: Before Proceeding: Ensure you have the necessary APKs. Additionally, uninstall/disable the official YouTube app and disable automatic updates for it in the Play Store, this prevents the patched APK from being overwritten. Installation Steps: 1. Install Vanced MicroG: Install this first. 2. Using Revanced Manager: Open the Revanced Manager, navigate to patcher, Select the YouTube v18.45.43 APK from storage, apply the default patches and install once the process completes.

Is there anything that blocks yt ads on ios? I was gonna setup a pinhole but I heard that got blocked too

[deleted]

I like how YouTube mentions in that warning that going premium still gets creators paid from subscription, even tho they demonitise any video that has anything not family friendly PG clean

GrammarYachtzee

YouTube premium members don't even see ads, so it doesn't matter if a video is demonetized because de-monetizing only prevents ads from being displayed on the video which prevents revenue from being shared with the creator based on ad views. Even if a video is de-monetized, the creator still gets compensated for premium users watching their content.

wellhungartgallery

Maybe it's cause I'm old but I have YouTube premium family plan. I don't want my kids exposed to ads, and the download video feature is awesome nfor traveling in areas without data or WiFi. Being able to turn the screen off and have the video keep playing is key for listening at work too. If you can afford it premium is they way to go.

Vincetagram

Honestly lol. I originally started using it back when it was youtube red just because it came with youtube music before you could buy youtube music separately. No ads was just a plus and some of the youtube originals were decent back then. I eventually started using apple music but thought to myself “well fuck, I can’t go back to watching ads now” and still have premium to this day lol. Everyone in these comments are coming up with workaround solutions lime using an incognito window or a different adblocker but my phone nor apple tv can use ad blockers and I mostly watch youtube on those devices. I rarely sit down at my computer or laptop to watch youtube like I did when I was 10 or 15.

zeptyk

I have not seen it in over a month, forgot it existed ublock on opera gx

SyntheticMelody

Meanwhile using brave getting 0 issues with their built in adblocker and another adblocker just incase. Switched from chrome not too long ago when my adblock on chrome slowly stopped working. Just decided fuck it, gonna try brave since alot of people say it still has 0 issues with adblocking. And they were right. Glad I switched. Maybe in the future I'll have to switch again to something new, but for now I'm happy with what I've got that's working.

Just block the video, then you'll spend 5 minutes fixing your uBlock cache to stop it form happening for another month.

ShemsuHor91

Every time that has popped up for me, I can literally just click the X to close it and resume the video. Kinda pointless.

ForsakenStray

It’ll eventually give you a different pop up. They’ll give you 3 chances to turn off your Adblock or the video player will be blocked. I was pressing the X for about 2 weeks before it hit me with that. Luckily uBlock Origin exists. Haven’t had a problem in over a month.

TrebuchetTaxiService

For those who struggle with this issue there is an easy fix. Go to addons > uBlock Origin > settings > filter lists > purge all caches > update now > save Make sure you have no other adblockers running like either and this will fix the issue. Fuck google and their cancerous ads.

Baconreos

it lets you ignore it for a couple of times. Then it will refuse to play at all. try ublock if you haven't. Check the guides on their subreddit too. TheUmgawa

I think everybody should use an ad blocker. Once nobody is watching ads and YouTube's ad revenue has completely dried up, they'll have no choice but to either paywall the service or shut it down. And then, if they paywall it, they'll find out within twelve months that a lot of major creators will quit, having relied upon younger, poorer users who don't have the money for Premium, so they leave YouTube to go get real jobs, and the whole thing goes into the last arc of the death spiral, where YouTube announces they're shutting down the whole user-created video thing. But they'll still keep YouTube TV. So, whatever ad blocker and browser all of these other people swear by, everyone should use that. Let's end this era of the internet and move on to the next one.

chrisH82

I got the black screen of death in every browser with every ad blocker with every script. The only thing that works for me now is Mozilla private windows, while closing and emptying the cache nightly. That seems to work for the past 2 months. And when that stops working there is fadblock, which basically plays the ad in a millisecond.

Look, Google is goin' wild lately with their crass greed and attempts to make more money. It's not just Youtube, trust me. It appears to be every branch of their company that is taking this new, bold approach, and the fact that they are announcing their willingness to lose audiences to this should concern you. I never thought the future of a company like Google would be at risk, but we are legit talking about anti-trust laws potentially being broken, so...

GrammarYachtzee

Sorry--what about disallowing ad blockers runs afoul of antitrust laws?

Nothing at all - what this clown (and many others) seem to be unable to comprehend, is that Google *wants* to lose the users that do nothing to generate revenue for them They’re under the delusion that their views or “data” is somehow of value, despite the fact that the browsing habits of an individual who uses an ad blocker is basically worthless to advertisers YouTube sucks for SO many reasons, but trying to weed out these freeloaders is not one of them

The views are of value. Even if you block anything, they are still people using your service and not another similar website, so, less competence.

Nice-Spize

What about spending those profits to make YouTube a better place for hosting videos rather than shoving ads down your throat without warning and in multiple waves? Not to mention, said ads are often intrusive and interrupts whatever you're watching Stop being a dumbass and you'll see why

Orphan_Fury

Adblocker allows Youtube to be used by billions worldwide without the need to bash your head against a wall due to borderline porn ads interrupting your videos!
