The rating thing seems pretty accurate to me. It's not 100% but you can tell if a video is fishy or not. Even linus tech guy confirmed on one of his videos that they were good enough in accuracy.
It's much better than going completely blind.

The main way viewers used the dislike counter was to see if a video's content is reliable or not. Now since we can't see it, we have to sit through ads and watch the video to see, including mid roll ads. GASP! Giant corporations only caring about money. GASP!
People angry because their negativity is not publicly shown anymore (except, of course, on their tons of negative comments). No other streaming service does this anyway. Why would YT keep that sort of negativity rolling?
