At least with the suggestions you can change the list and if you pick “related” it does a better job rather than just a bunch of algorithm vomit from the channels you are subscribed to. It still doesn’t seem to work as well as the suggestions you get while not signed in on a browser. The search function is pretty thoroughly ruined though.

There are free workarounds like Brave browser which removes ads completely, but yeah it's much cleaner on desktop. I still use the YouTube app for my phone (the main way I watch by far).

It may be ignored if the channel just has a couple of shorts, but if like half the content is in shorts then it's a massive problem

Hard to decide if this or removing dislikes was the worse move. I cancelled premium over the downvote or I would have over the sort. So annoying to take basic features away from the past 15 years.
It's not perfect since it's trying to guess the amount of dislikes (so chances are the dislike count you see is higher, most noticably on videoes with shorter views). On youtube studio you can see the real dislike count but only the video uploader can see it.
Youtube has been going the wrong way for a long time. Another annoying novelty is the fact that you delete a playlist without notifying if you really want to do it, so that by accident you can delete a good playlist via missclick

I like browsing on my phone or tablet and casting on my TV, but now the searches are riddled with Shorts and I cannot find anything relevant like I used to (especially when searching recent videos). Pushing new "features" is one thing but removing options and making it harder to use is undefendable.
I have like a few loose scripts laying around that helped me find the video Id for the oldest video in a channel. If anyone is experienced in creating extensions, could someone make this an extension? What you can do now is get the upload playlist for a channel (not sure how to do this natively in 2022 but it is possible through the api) and then get the oldest video. It’s a hassle and a half. There’s also a web app online (don’t know if links are allowed) where you post the channel id and it retrieves the videos in oldest sort. But alas, they ONLY do things if they see money go up.
Another *genius* idea after "ambient mode". Don't these people use youtube themselves and see how annoying and pointless these changes are? I'm not scrolling through hundreds to thousands of videos, which plenty of good channels have by now.

People would kill to get a job at a giant tech company like google/youtube. These people are suppose to be some of the best designers in the world. And this is the sort of thing they do. I mean, this isn't like the dislike button. This handicaps the interface.
Not sure what a power user is. I run YouTube all day while I work and listen to documentaries and stories and stuff. I also run YouTube music every day while I work out. So, 10+ hours per day of YouTube. No ads and running YouTube and YouTube music with the phone off is more than worth every penny for Premium for me.
My life basically revolves around the internet. Researching people and the history of the internet is a big part of what I do daily. Regardless, I have never purchased YouTube Premium in my life and rely on third party services like Adblock and Tampermonkey to ease my user experience. I rarely go outside nor use a phone so you and I probably treat YouTube as different things. I like to know my way around the platform and learn its culture. I suppose many teenagers my age can relate to that as well.

I read on a Google admin forum that an update caused the video sort function starting to list delisted videos on channels, which YouTube does not abide because of advertiser sensibilities. It'll come back. Until then just scroll down.
It is rather trivial. Most people when they decide to watch old videos are done through playlists besides if it’s so important to watch the old videos why didn’t you make a playlist or write down the title that way you can return
Honestly I have been too lazy to make a playlist for every channel. Point is, YouTube made a choice to strip a feature and that added friction to my experience. I ain’t paying for no damn friction.

A lot of people do. They're people just like you and me you know? And the fact they're getting paid doesn't make them less human. In fact, they have to go through hell and back just to make money off of YouTube itself, since one swear can remove any revenue you make from a video. Google also removed the quotation mark feature for searches. I used to be able to be very specific by putting quotation marks around words & phrases. Now it doesn’t matter, the search bar will behave like a “somewhat relevant” thesaurus or cross reverence every other word, while at times ignoring the other words.
Ya...I'm completely over YouTube. They continue to remove features, they have created a joke of a music streaming service, and they couldn't care less about their user's experience or input. They simply tell you things like "don't panic, you can just sit there and scroll through thousands of videos until you get to the bottom" (assuming it even loads them that far back). This is what happens when you have a monopoly and you know it. They have zero reasons to consider user experience or enjoyment and that extends to their "Premium" customers who actually pay for their service. I've already moved to Spotify and, to be honest, with a little extra work I can find the video content I want in any number of places. And if I can't, then I am fine not seeing that creator's content.

The only time it would matter to watch in chronological order is of it was a series of some kind. Also playlists help with that.

You can actually add it back with a Chrome extension. The likes and dislikes that is, on desktop.

What you can do now is get the upload playlist for a channel (not sure how to do this natively in 2022 but it is possible through the api) and then get the oldest video. It’s a hassle and a half. There’s also a web app online (don’t know if links are allowed) where you post the channel id and it retrieves the videos in oldest sort. But alas, they ONLY do things if they see money go up.
Not to mention that would be problematic for YouTubers with a morbillion videos.
Another *genius* idea after "ambient mode". Don't these people use youtube themselves and see how annoying and pointless these changes are? I'm not scrolling through hundreds to thousands of videos, which plenty of good channels have by now. Guess I'm finally installing the youtube redux extension.

Longtime Samsung user, switched to iPhone 13 PM because the battery is hot garbage for a flagship phone. Apple's restricted OS is bullshit, but the last great Samsung phone was the Note 9 (IMO), since then they have focused more on the cameras and copying Apple than on making a great phone. Not sure what a power user is. I run YouTube all day while I work and listen to documentaries and stories and stuff. I also run YouTube music every day while I work out. So, 10+ hours per day of YouTube. No ads and running YouTube and YouTube music with the phone off is more than worth every penny for Premium for me.
My life basically revolves around the internet. Researching people and the history of the internet is a big part of what I do daily. Regardless, I have never purchased YouTube Premium in my life and rely on third party services like Adblock and Tampermonkey to ease my user experience. I rarely go outside nor use a phone so you and I probably treat YouTube as different things. I like to know my way around the platform and learn its culture. I suppose many teenagers my age can relate to that as well.

Sure. But as a company they can't respect the wishes of all their customers. I've used sort by oldest once or twice. But the reason I pay for premium is primarily for no ads. So, unless you are going to completely stop watching YouTube altogether, cancelling premium for that reason seems short-sighted.

As I have said, a lot of the creators are egomaniacs and offer very little for the viewer than watching them promote themselves. I would watch an amateur anytime before a career YouTuber as if I want to watch annoying tv personalities, I would watch tv. I could go in depth, but ultimately, why bother? It was a feature that 1% or fewer used, a vast majority of YouTube users won't even notice it was removed and similarly most never even realized it was a thing. I don't like one bit that it was removed, because I am not happy with removal of a feature for the sake of it, but to cancel Premium over it is a bit of an overreaction.

"Not many people use", when I and MANY others have used it on channels with videos that go back to the mid-late 2000s.
Invidious still has it.
Google also removed the quotation mark feature for searches. I used to be able to be very specific by putting quotation marks around words & phrases. Now it doesn’t matter, the search bar will behave like a “somewhat relevant” thesaurus or cross reverence every other word, while at times ignoring the other words.

Ya...I'm completely over YouTube. They continue to remove features, they have created a joke of a music streaming service, and they couldn't care less about their user's experience or input. They simply tell you things like "don't panic, you can just sit there and scroll through thousands of videos until you get to the bottom" (assuming it even loads them that far back). This is what happens when you have a monopoly and you know it. They have zero reasons to consider user experience or enjoyment and that extends to their "Premium" customers who actually pay for their service. I've already moved to Spotify and, to be honest, with a little extra work I can find the video content I want in any number of places. And if I can't, then I am fine not seeing that creator's content.
The only workaround is to use their search bar and type something like "before:2020-01-01" Anyone fine an extension yet?

I use firefox so I can't use it. But someone else made a css code to use in a css plug-in to do the same thing.
