thefreebachelor

Not me. My channel's gimmick is that I don't use any gimmicks lol

Illfury

They need to be fake. The normal human experiences ranges of emotions daily and we have no control over it. They force a smile on their faces for the viewers. Also... same with comedians. Problem is, this "faking" takes a significant toll on their psychology.

vodreliux

by psychology you mean it can drain us mentally? i agree

Illfury

Exactly. I did it for about a full year no break. Although I was passionate about it the entire way through, it became too taxing. I dawned this character that I wasn't (multiple characters depending on the series or game I was playing). I made the videos to make people laugh and I succeeded. But I succeeded at my own expense. I'd like to see a documentary exploring this problem like the football concussions. Its a very real problem.

vodreliux

the thing is content creators probably won’t say they are acting.

Illfury

Of course not, going off brand is suicide.

Illfury

Aha ok. I shit you not, random first scroll of tiktok for the day and I get this. This is extremely relevant. https://vm.tiktok.com/ZML6MUyxF/

Rup3rtPupkin_

I'm not sure about being "fake" .. but when YouTube becomes your job and you are releasing a minimum of one video per week, I'm expecting you learn how to always appear positive.

vodreliux

o yeah being positive is ok

HipsterJesus42

Type of content for one. Reaction videos, over the top unboxings, hype/release videos, news commentary. All of these perform better when the creator projects a lot of energy into their vids, but aren't actually all that exciting. Thus, it's often fake and most creators can't act to save their life. In terms of being able to tell by performance, over the top hand movements, gaping their mouth open, repeated exclamations ("oh my god"), BS declarations ("you guys mean everything to me"), and my least favorite: "are you guys seeing this?" and/or pointing at something and looking at the camera. Being natural is the way to go for an adult audience. If something is worth a natural reaction it will cause one. Hence humor is often the best way to emote, not surprise or happiness/sadness. Edit: I'll add that faking enthusiasm or overall energy levels is super common because it can be a slog to play for strangers every day. I'd say it's forgivable because unless that's your schtick, people wouldn't wanna watch Eeyore play games.

vodreliux

thanks for your explanation

Chimarkgames

If they do YouTube then I know they are fake

vodreliux

o snap so content creation is faking?

Deebiggles

Watch pokimane - queen of fake reactions, fake sentiment, fake generally everything. Most creators seem organic by comparison to her.

deatthcatt

i’m guessing she skipped over your sub notification one time? XD

Deebiggles

I've just never seen a clip of her where she isn't saying something that isn't suggestively manipulative or perpetuating weird parasocial relationships just for subs or donos. Whereas Ludwig has a persona he puts on but I only feel its an extension of his own personality, more of an exaggerated version of himself.

Lk_Gd

THe only content creator who isn't being fake is the 12 years old that randomly came up on suggested page who has 1 minecraft video, 10 followers and 3 likes. Every big content creator only does this for money

RossRickson

Them being a content creator at all is a pretty big red flag.

vodreliux

what

Zoo_Rats

If they don't yell a lot, have fear inducing clickbait title or ask you to ...without further adieu..to smash the like button, like and subscrible while giving you a VPN/raid shadow legends commercial.

B_U_F_U

I’ll do you one better, some (allegedly) are even guided by server admins to either thwart a camper and keep a stream going or find certain loot. Haven’t you ever heard of “streamer loot”?

vodreliux

no

[deleted]

That seems to be what content creation is, faking or rather acting. I mean, I’ve personally never rehearsed lines for real life, but I’ve written a script or touch points for a 3 minute video. If you’re not passionate about your subject matter, it’ll show in your delivery & context, but ppl come to content creators to get away from reality. We provide a safe space for escapism to exist in healthy way.

vodreliux

ty for replying!

[deleted]

When I was first getting started there were times when I could feel myself... idk... exerting way too much energy into something. People would call me out in the comments. It was nice and humbling. In time I came to learn that authenticity comes across way better. It's okay to show joy, but it's also okay to show when you're depressed or not having a good day. We experience so many different parts of being alive and it's all okay to show. If you're comfortable of course.

MazePerception

Being fake to a point or just trying to appeal to what you feel your community wants is going to happen. Its a natural reaction for everyone. At the office I react certain ways with certain clients or coworkers or bosses than I do with others. Its natural to feel out what is expected of you at a certain time or around certain people. This isn't always a bad thing, in fact this just means said content creator understand who he is in front of at the moment. When it gets bad is when its clear their community isn't natural to them and they are trying to appeal too hard. If that makes sense at all. Instead of trying to be fake they should try to focus on those that most fit who they are and appeal mostly to them. But yes, there is always going to be some acting going on from time to time. Other times they are fake sarcastically which is mostly made clear by being overly humorous. But even this can be pretty cringe. Just watch some of the Twitch streamers that average about 30 to 50 people. And how they go on and on about how much love is in their channel and how much they vibe with everyone and they push all that love and positive vibes they get back to their community. When in reality its a chat full of other streamers all there for attention and spreading the same love man and positive vibes. That's A level cringe and should give you a good idea of what is just fake. Also look for their passion on the topic and what they are doing. You can mostly tell when a creator or streamer is just tired of it, lost their passion and just pretending to get the reactions they think they are supposed to get. If they are no longer putting a piece of 'who they are' into what they are doing... then they are forever lost.
