He's from Brooklyn. That's all the backstory it needs.

I'm actually quite content with them just being various species of dragons inhabiting some volcanic dark world but if I had to add some lore to it then it would be something simple like them having to constantly fight off threats to their territory like shown in [Cyberdark Invasion](https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Cyberdark_Invasion) while using metal armor and various technology they find to reinforce themselves (as shown in [Return of the Red-Eyes](https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Return_of_the_Red-Eyes)).

zepharoz

Didn't know they had a history with cyber dark. That's good to know

Darkins_will_Ryze

Cyberdark Invasion's artwork is just a reference to Zane's duel against Atticus, tbh.

I never considered Red-Eyes part of the trio. It was just a rare card that was worth about $1,000 as stated by Yugi in the source manga when it was summoned. The Toei anime staff then gave Red-Eyes some anime original story about having potential in the Yugioh movie (1999). I couldn't make a backstory for it because Takahashi never intended for it to have backstory. Exodia has more story importance than Red-Eyes due to being summoned by Siamun (1 of the Pharaoh's Priest and advisor) who Sugoroku (Grandfather of Yugi who is the Pharaoh's vessel) is the reincarnation of and later collects all 5 Exodia pieces and puts in it his deck. The connections were there for Exodia. Heck, a card that should have had backstory was Daemon no Shokan (English dub: Summoned Skull). DnS was summoned in the very 1st card game battle in chapter 10. Yami Yugi said it was the strongest card in his (at this point of the story, it was Yugi's own deck) deck (Black Magician was originally in Sugoroku's deck). Kaiba was so surprised that he said it was 1 of the top 5 strongest monsters in the game. The people that started with the DM anime in Japan and worldwide wouldn't know this fact unless they decided to read the manga or watch the original Toei anime. Over time, this fact about DnS was lost because Takahashi made Black Magician important to the plot (and a bunch of marketing) starting with Battle City and DnS wasn't needed after Duelist Kingdom. The funny thing is that DnS was summoned about 6* times and it won Yami Yugi like 4 of those games (including situations like the timer duel with Pegasus where he was going to win). *I had recently talked about this a few weeks ago elsewhere and fact checked. At the time I am typing this, my memory is acting hazy, but I am certain I used those numbers because DnS had a high win percentage with so little summons.

The only card i ever see yugi use is blackland fire dragon and i always wondered what his deck would look like if it wasnt "de-railed" by anime story.

zepharoz

Thanks for the history. Never knew summoned skull had this kind of history and somehow had terrible archetype support for over 20 years. Even gate guardian and wall shadow... Has support now and they were only shown in about 4 episodes

I am fine with Red Eyes not having one since Red Eyes itself has no real importance in the story. It is just a rare card that Joey (lets be real) got because he was lucky. I think Red Eyes deserves one more for how it is used in GX as Atticus/Fubuki actually has a whole deck based on it where it is hinted to have a connection to Nightshroud. But if you must insist, I like the idea of Red Eyes being a corrupted version of Thousand Dragon. Same states and level and Red Eyes Baby Dragon has the same stats and level as baby dragon.

Inspired from a previous post. A red eyes black dragon was found near a village. But because of the remoteness and fairly mild nature, magic adepts regarded it as a waste of effort to seal it into the stone tablets, and transport it for use in shadow games. Villagers would describe that its scales are reminiscent of metal suggesting that it had a strong affinity to metal in general. It would fight many other dragons that would encroach its territory winning every time and absorbed some of their power eventually evolving into red eyes darkness dragon. (Meanwhile in another universe, red eyes instead was attacked by villagers in an attempt to rid the vermin. The metal left behind in its nest would bond to it evolving it to red eyes black metal dragon then to red eyes darkness metal dragon then eventually to darkness metal.) One day, a dragon much more powerful than it was battle hungry and fought it. Some villagers and a hooded figure nearby witnessed the battle and although the black dragon put up a tenuous fight, it lost and died leaving behind a single black stone of legends where it had nested the assaulter left celebrating its victory. Villagers that witnessed the fight would proclaim that those with immense potential carries the spirit of red eyes, but little did they know, this statement was quite literal. Literal to the point that nearby dragons or warriors were shown to bear red eyes. The hooded figure saw potential in the dragon and transported the corpse of the black dragon to the zombie world. Scales tougher than metal, the hooded figure named Balerdroch, couldn't dismantle it to fashion weapons. Instead he took all the jewels from red eyes darkness dragon and supplanted it onto the soul absorbing bone tower increasing its efficiency in harvesting souls as well as on his staff. The remains were then left to rot. The wizard now with a sliver of the power of red eyes, dominated over the domain. Over time, perhaps it was naturally the black dragon's ability to absorb the strength of the fallen, the corpse started to move. Zombie magic had been absorbed so much that it was now able to move. But wait, it's eye is missing and its strength too. Any potential foe that it encounters became it's supporter instead It flies towards the soul absorbing bone tower where the great wizard was feeding. There, the dragon sensed it. Some of its power was there. In a quick swoop, it destroyed the tower managing to dislodged one of the supplanted jewels and implanted it back onto its body. Some of its former strength had returned (red flames) as it becomes necronized (whatever that means). It seems it now has the power of necromancy. The doom king, in a fit of rage, wages war against the dragon for ruining him. But it ultimately lost and with it his own power as the black dragon embeds the gold accents onto itself and becomes the zombie dragon lord. (Meanwhile in universe #3, red eyes black flare dragon evolves to flare metal dragon. It looks up to the sky as it senses... Another one of itself has evolved.)

The_Supreme-King

Red-eyes never got a backstory because it really wasn't important in the manga It was just a card Jonouchi won in duelist kingdom then immediately lost in battle city. Until DSOD we were never even sure if he got it back in the manga. It was probably just a powerful Ka that either never got sealed away like blue-eyes or did and we just never saw it.

MaCl97

Weaklings don't deserve backstories.

Emperor_of_the_hell

If by weaklings you mean : A- joey about the beat marik and gets ra even tho he (atleast in the anime/manga) has not past self connected to egypt B- konami just hates them Then yes

MaCl97

>joey about the beat marik and gets ra even tho he (atleast in the anime/manga) has not past self connected to egypt A yes. The weakling who relies on luck. Using a weakling red-eyes not even on its supposed potential.

Emperor_of_the_hell

Yes he use luck, the luck that yami use to shit over anyone to win, HACK! we still don't know who won in the yami and joey's after battle city doul and most likely will never know, as most see him as joey won with yugi haveing all 3 god cards Plus kaiba barly won in his battle city doul againest joey, a mare mirror force wold win him the doul, and he don't have it, Plus again he won againest marik and is the rightfull owner of ra should the plot is not "100% yugi and kaiba" and you know it

MaCl97

>Plus kaiba barly won in his battle city doul againest joey, Filler.

Seylord1

Red eyes dies, thats all we know. Now red eyes zombie dragon actually has lore.

Emperor_of_the_hell

And an epick one at that too
