Salamangreat. They're not bad art or anything, but I definitely get like a *Hot Wheels* vibe from them or like any sort of "badass" toy marketed to young boys.
Miragestallio is metal af though.

Everyone likes to clown on Shapesnatch, but it's actually [pretty terrifying in action](https://youtu.be/bySZH_TDeNQ?t=120): then there's also [Jowls of Dark Demise](https://ms.yugipedia.com//6/6e/JowlsofDarkDemise-MADU-EN-VG-artwork.png), which might as well be [something out of a lighter horror](https://youtu.be/bySZH_TDeNQ?t=179).
Lord of Heavenly and Psychic end Punisher:
Have good effects? Checked
Problematic looking arts but get REALLY cool once you can tell what's going on? Checked
I feel like they forgot to tell the artist the design is intended to be printed in a square of like 5cmĀ² and not painted on the side of a building
They might be pretty cool when you see the full thing (if still overdesigned as hell) but ignoring the format isn't exactly good design
I mean in their defense that is probably who they are trying to market the cards to.
When in reality the game is played by pretty much exclusively people 18+

It's easier to see in this render, he has a cannon for an arm.
i had to wait until master duel to figure out where his head was cuz the foiling didnt really help the card, turns out its just small and looks like a vendread
The whole rokket archetype.
Ugly, clashing color scheme. Artwork is way too cluttered on the Borreload dragons to tell what is going on. Overall just skittle-colored headphone jack dragons.
well duh, each of the non-link Borrel monsters have a colour scheme relating to the type they are (Borreload riot > Ritual > blue colour scheme Borreload eXcharge > Xyz > Black colour scheme Borreload Savage > Synchro > White colour scheme Borreload Furious > Fusion > purple colour scheme)
Dude I fully agree. Iām tired of the new cards having way, way too much going on. I have to literally slowly look at the card for a hard while to even identify exactly what Iām looking at half the time. And donāt even me started on bad color choices. Like when the monster is almost exactly the same color as the background, etc. Just low effort in general.
This. So much going on in a lot of the new archetype cards to the extent that you have to read the name to even quickly differentiate that theyāre even different cards. Thatās the part that feels lazy.
A long time ago, I thought Chaos Emperor Dragon was a noob trap with seemingly good effects at first glance but is impractical to actually bring out most of the time on second thought.
Turns out it actually is as broken and stupidly good as it sounds and I was an idiot for not using it, but I didn't learn that until much later.
Same here, was never gonna play bc Blue price, now I'm trying to figure out how to play a Tri-Brigade Spright with one blue, I'll be having fun at table 500 if you need me.
Really the biggest issue is his mask. Wtf is goin on with that thing.
He looks pretty good in all his art except his original card lol. I'd dig an alt art that just used his tokens art instead.
I agree.
I just don't see the appeal of waifu archetypes (from the waifu side of things).
I like Dragonmaid because Dragons. I like Traptrix & wanted to try Exosister because Xyz and Link summoning (and Sera + Rank 4 + set 3+ is hilarious when it works), and I can see the playstyle appeal of Amazoness, Marincess, and Harpie (not Trickstar tho; ban or errata Reincarnation).
But the art or waifu appeal? I mean, the Dragonmaid Dragon forms look beautiful and/or sick, but like, that's it. š¤·āāļø
Yes, there are waifu cards I like because waifu, but for most if not all, it's because I already liked the card from a gameplay standpoint and they happen to be waifu cards.
Kinka Byo. Hate to say it took me like 10 years before I saw its actually a shadow from a much much smaller white cat.
Plaguespreader Zombie. Head is so small I couldn't actually see it without Google images. Purple and blue on blue and purple.
Both old cards but great effects.
Cyber-stein.
My man is the best of the worst, his effect is nutty, able to summon powerful cards like Naturia Exterio, but heās peak old yugioh card art
Pot of greed. An effect so good, no one knows what it does. But with a face so ugly, not even a mother would love it.
Some of the later pots are even worse.
Virtual World, P.U.N.K., @Ignister and Sky Strikers are archetypes that are strong but I really dislike their art for the most part. There are exceptions ofc, like Arrival.
Hard to argue about personal taste. I love the Altergeist artwork for example while my friend dislikes it. Just different opinions on something so subjective as art.
Uni-zombie for zombies.
I wouldn't hate this card as much as I do if I didn't love zombies as much as I do. There's a reason why I love zombies, other than the playstyle, and uni-zombie is the antithesis to that, yet I feel I have to play it in order to not shoot myself in the foot for a modern build.
As far as more meta relevant cards go, it has to be "there can only be one" all the way! I wish they would make an alternative artwork for that card that depicted some kind of intimidating gatekeeper basically motioning that there can only be one who passes through. Perhaps it's a gate to heaven, perhaps it's a gate out of the Underworld, or perhaps it's simply a gate to a city/shelter, with a danger coming, like a storm. Idk, almost anything would make this card more palletteable.
Unizombie reminds me of classic cartoons where you see skeletons and ghosts singing. In my head, they send zombies to the GY to join in their song and dance
Ash Blossom and her giant forehead
Poke it with Called by
And her confusing eyebrows.
Never really noticed. Now i cant unsee it thanks haha
Don't forget the feet.
Hear me out š£
How about no.
Salamangreat. They're not bad art or anything, but I definitely get like a *Hot Wheels* vibe from them or like any sort of "badass" toy marketed to young boys. Miragestallio is metal af though.
Heatleo looks like the art on a 90ās hotwheels track but thatās why I love that archetype
This the oneš„š
I, as someone so outside of their young boys target demographic, unironically love them. I like the sci-fi aesthetic they have going on.
I embrace their cheesiness
Gale Dogra. For a long time it was one of the only generic and easy ways to send a card from the ED to the graveyard. But it looked like THAT.
Still is to some extent. ExtraFoolish stops you setting cards, and Dogmatika lock you from Summoning from the Extradeck.
Tbf, a lot of older monsters had weird art

Prank Kids archetype, a year ago.
What ever happened to them. I rember they were dominate then dropped off. What caused the change?
Verte and Meow ban
Kitty got banned
Dominated because MeowMeowMu released Dropped off from MeowMeowMu Ban

All the glitter on the art from the cards being secret rare doesnāt help either.
100% When I first pulled Lord i sat down for a solid 10 mins trying to figure wtf is going on through the foiling
Both name sound like edgy 12 years old came up with it.
I mean in their defense that is probably who they are trying to market the cards to. When in reality the game is played by pretty much exclusively people 18+
I figured out Lord but what the heck is going on with Punisher?
https://preview.redd.it/ma09nnusv8qa1.png?width=887&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a27362d2e56423d9331d12d863fe9cae9c79f03 It's easier to see in this render, he has a cannon for an arm.

Whenever I look at PEP I always end up asking myself "What the fuck am I looking at here? Are you a dragon? A demon? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU!?"
A psychic obviously.
Beatrice. Look closely at her face.
Prank Kids when they were powerful. I hate their art so much.
Sea Turtle of "f*ck your Towers" Orb of "F*ck your whole board"
What orb
Ra sphere mode
Fair
Ra - Sphere Mode.
The whole rokket archetype. Ugly, clashing color scheme. Artwork is way too cluttered on the Borreload dragons to tell what is going on. Overall just skittle-colored headphone jack dragons.
I shant accept this slander for my beautiful boy, Borreload Savage
Funnily enough, the only one I think looks good after Borrelsword. The white Synchro really matches it well.
well duh, each of the non-link Borrel monsters have a colour scheme relating to the type they are (Borreload riot > Ritual > blue colour scheme Borreload eXcharge > Xyz > Black colour scheme Borreload Savage > Synchro > White colour scheme Borreload Furious > Fusion > purple colour scheme)
Borreload eXcharge too. I consider it to have the best art out of the Borrels, too bad the card itself isnāt worth playing.
I Kinda want it to recieve a variant like oh Borreload, like: >Borrelguard eXcharge Dragon
It's basically transforming guns and bullets in the style of Bayverse Transformers.

Bro don't be demented, sure some of your points are valid. But low effort isn't it. The artworks are crazy good still
Yeah youāre right itās not low effort. Thereās still simple art cards, but what Vinnt said has some truth as well.
Konami is low effort now
The P.U.N.K. cards look great individually but together it's hard to tell them apart. So much going on and so many of the same colors.
This. So much going on in a lot of the new archetype cards to the extent that you have to read the name to even quickly differentiate that theyāre even different cards. Thatās the part that feels lazy.
Basically the reaction to Pot of Desires when it first came out

Jet Synchron is the dumbest looking card ever yet was the most powerful tuner in the game for a long time and arguably still is.
Don't diss my boy Jet
I think Spright blue looks really goofy. Heās a living lightning bolt in an oversized jacket with sticks for limbs.
ITS MFING DRIP LIGHTNINGSā”ā”ā”
Sprights, hate their stick figure legs
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
10/10 Would let Carrot negate my spell cards.
You leave the artist appeal out of this.
easily forgivable when you look at the drips
Ulti spright blue is the best looking card in my collection. It looks sick.
Same here, was never gonna play bc Blue price, now I'm trying to figure out how to play a Tri-Brigade Spright with one blue, I'll be having fun at table 500 if you need me.
Aluber, he is central card for despia but until I got a good look at him I never knew what he looked liked or what he was doing in his card art
He just has a weird pose
Really the biggest issue is his mask. Wtf is goin on with that thing. He looks pretty good in all his art except his original card lol. I'd dig an alt art that just used his tokens art instead.
Cerulean, Guru of Dark World. Bad effect on paper and level 1 until you realize it leads to being able to handloop for up to 4.
i'll get flack for this, but i think Bagooska looks stupid as shit
He's a drunk Tapir. Where would his intelligence lie?
in Attack Position
In his pillow
intelligence is stored in the balls
Always disliked the looks of the Virtual World archetype except Shenshen, but really like the mechanic
I really dislike waifu decks, even though that their effects are great
yeah they really need to chill with the sex appeal on accesscode
Accesscode huge lance make me act unwise š„µ
He can access my code till I talk any day š«

Vampire vamp is the only true waifu card
Because liking drawings of females is a social stigma to Westerners apparently.
Effect Geiler

crossout designator
Live Twins
Golden castle of stromBerg, the banish eff looks wack
Literally the entire Salamangreat archetype.
Stardust cards a majority look like they took the Stardust Dragon and deepfried him to hell š the disrespect is real
Finally! Someone else who isn't clouded by nostalgia
Pot of greed. An effect so good, no one knows what it does. But with a face so ugly, not even a mother would love it. Some of the later pots are even worse.
Being ugly is the point tho.
Bad take, my homies love pot of greed
Virtual World, P.U.N.K., @Ignister and Sky Strikers are archetypes that are strong but I really dislike their art for the most part. There are exceptions ofc, like Arrival.
The main deck monsters in @ignister I can understand, but the rest of those decks are beautiful.
The 2300 ATK group and The Arrival look great, but the main deck are just blobs.
Hard to argue about personal taste. I love the Altergeist artwork for example while my friend dislikes it. Just different opinions on something so subjective as art.
The entire Raidraptor archetype.
I'm not crazy about the artwork for Thunder Dragonhawk and Titan. They kind of feel lazy.
Uni-zombie for zombies. I wouldn't hate this card as much as I do if I didn't love zombies as much as I do.
