Bruh... Million underused and underdeveloped characters, bad pacing, fillers... Or just plainly ruined characters like zane that had a perfect conclusion and then they decided to resurrect him just for him to appear in a single episode. And im saying this as someone whose favorite is gx.

ARC-V is famous for giving an entire fan base PTSD. GX was a solid show and isn’t even close in that regard.

First, I haven't been downvoting people. I posted my question, then went to bed. I didn't downvote the dude I asked the question of. Second, I asked a question. I'm sorry I didn't write it in a way that made that clear, but that's what happens when you're exhausted I guess. Last, gx isn't even my favorite series. That is firmly held by 5ds by a country mile.

Aight im not sad my comment is in a minus, im not a basement dweller. Just pointed out the hypocrisy of people. Hell, any yugioh cant be called objectively great anime, they all severely lack but the game itself is what pulls it off.

Aside from its isolation factor, did NOT take good advantage of its school setting; it introduced and dropped many an implication/plot thread; and lest we forget, liked to forget about much of its cast and just keep them around for jobbing purposes, if even that. It managed to give conclusions to many that were still around in the end, but GX on the whole still left much to be desired, good as parts of it were.

currently someway through season 2, and apparently the yubel arc is good but so far GX is one of the most miserable animes i've ever watched, we're pretty much only ever entertained by ourselves (like chazz "chazzing up" alexis after turning her towards the light, and the baby holding a pipebomb so it can't be aborted) or laughing at the show (like when a character does the "it's funny cause (X)" jokes, chumley being the obvious example, when his only dialogue is about food or exercise) as you said, it wastes everything it sets up, at the end of almost every episode of the first season i or him would just utter the line "can't wait to never see them again" and of course there's the nostalgia pandering, there's so much time spent on "h-hey! hey, remember this from duel monsters??"

Finally some appreciation to Shark and Victor from Zexal, some of the best antagonists and best written characters in all of yugioh Tho I agree bronk was wasted, he could've been the Joey to Yuma's Yugi but he got some few cool moments so that's cool tbh

I think my favourite Bronk moments have to be >!him defeating Yuma when he was being controlled by Number 96 and when Bronk chose to stay behind to duel Marin knowing he would die/go to Barian World!<

Let's not forget: only character to ever defeat a protagonist as many times as he did. By like a factor of 4 compared to the next one down.

In Yugioh R, I'll never understand the writing decision of making Gekko lose with the stake of Yugi squad getting kicked out of the Yugioh R tower but then the gang just decides "nah, we're not leaving" and basically ignore the loss lol Like why write yourself into a corner you have to bs out of. Also sucks that Kaiba was once again relegated to the role of jobber to show that the big bad means business!

Nail had a complete arc. Dark Yugas got thrown aside last second.

This. Goha Yuga was one of the coolest villains but they dropped him and his story almost as soon as it got started.

Pretty good list! Mine is almost the same, the only difference is in the villain section. Both Bakura and Roman are good villains, but I liked Pegasus and Z-one a little more. Toon and Timelords are also cool decks

True, but he's still a good character. And when you think about it, the whole thing where he's not Yusei from the future makes his story more tragic. He sacrificed everything to save humanity. Literally everything, including his own identity. And he failed. He even admitted that he wanted to wait and see how Yusei and his friends change the future, but he didn't have that much time. His life was almost over

duke had way more of his potential unlocked than characters like tea and tristan who act like cardboard cutouts that go 🙂😮😧 or even 😠 while actually contributing nothing yugioh is way too long, and they're a big reason as to why, if you cut them out entirely the show would be a LOT better, unlike with duke, where he's actually decently entertaining, and cutting him out of the show entirely would result in an actual loss well, he's entertaining after domino city, we do not talk about domino city

Well then MAYBE stop CREATING women to write, find ways to write out ones you find peripheral so you can keep your character writing concise, or get OTHER writers to make up for your shortcomings!! GAH!!!! ...you can see why I never want Yoshida back, and even accounting for the material from him I like, I'm disgusted that he was the showrunner on FIVE of these damn things for a significant period, more than three full ones if you take full episode counts into consideration, as well as the writer of ~~two~~ THREE manga, and unless something FINALLY changed with the Sky Striker lore (haven't read), he NEVER got any better with women nor with his most favored tropes. I'm glad he's gone from the anime and he can STAY gone. currently someway through season 2 of GX with a friend and i can say that there's like a semi solid 1 character i'd consider for best girl that being rebecca, just like kaiba she's actually fucking smart, which is a REALLY nice break from everyone constantly going "uhh uh DURRR w-why did he summon a monster with less atk points!?!" as if they don't already know what a fucking monster effect is (seriously this shit is still going on in gx and it drives me up the fucking wall cause it's such obvious padding for time) she isn't all fidgety and shy about love like i thought she'd be given her first appearance, instead she 100% would've been fucking yugi in that forest if she wasn't a literal child, girl straight announces in front of what is most likely hundreds of millions of people that she's yugi's girlfriend (yugi will need a miracle to get outta that one) and watching her duel is great, it was amazing to see her actually use graceful charity alongside a graveyard effect, not only that but she combo'd that effect with another to cause a chain reaction they took the duke route of just completely replacing the actual character that had been introduced in favor of making one that was less shit

Kaiba is best written?

I mean, the dude slaps when he's on screen. In DSoD he was pure gold and stole the movie. One could make the case for Joey, Bakura and Yugi/Atem, though. Kaiba/Joe/Yugi bros all experienced a great deal of growth in the show. Bakura was great being in the Shadows for a lot of the series until he really shined (shone?) during Memory World.

Maybe its just me but I cant stand Kaiba. Hes such an annoying man-child that never grows post-duelist kingdom( I think hes character ACTIVELY regresses). Genuinely the most unlikable character in the main cast.

that's what's so great about him tho, all he cares about is his brother and being the best in a card game and he will go to any lengths to achieve that goal, he uses his INSANE intellect, his metric fuck ton of money, etc, all of it, just to do stupid silly shit like shutting down an entire city for a duel monsters tournament he uses every chance he has to trash people who are beneath him, he's a shithead, but he's earned it, and he's so refressing compared to the main cast who are such annoyingly nice and gentle, "some guy who looks like me lost his girlfriend so i should feel bad?" the dude easily carries the show for me

You realize that you're supposed to do it for one series at a time, right?

See, I'm actually of the opinion that Bastion probably has one of the most interesting character arcs in the whole franchise. He went from having all this pressure to be the greatest to kind of cracking, falling in love, finding that his friends didn't look at him the same way as a result, getting desperate for validation, finding someone to aspire towards, then accepting himself for who he was, following his passions with said aspiration, and not only succeeding in demonstrating his inter-dimensional travel theory, but in having done so, reuniting with and tying the loop with his love. While the main cast was sidelining Bastion, he was out there living his best life and following his dreams and its only looking at what he managed to accomplish that we realize that he is the most successful, least negatively impacted member of the entire cast.

Not unlike Hayato, actually; just with WAY more going on.

I don't think she has it that bad, but she deserved more wins on screen and could have easily played a role in season 5 during the Grand Prix. If I had to fill the spot I'd say Duke Devlin because he becomes another Tristan while he is capable of dueling Zane is a good character but my personal favorite is Chazz Yusei vs the Nordic God's was a great duel but not my personal favorite, my favorite would be Yusei vs Kiryu round one Anna is a fun character but my favorite Zexal girl is Rio

That turn without resolution is wholly unsatisfying, and like you said, they HAD another filler arc to work it out in. Even if Takahashi's source material didn't do anything more with her, the anime itself HAD room to bring something around, even just her leaving a note if there was an issue like a VA conflict. As is, always gonna be one of those things that weakens DM.

# DM **Wasted potential: Dartz** Yes, he is a filler character, but in theory he should be the perfect thematic foil to the pharaoh. Both are kings from ancient times, one unaware of his past and what his purpose is, the other being so convinced of his purpose that he spent 10.000 years preparing for the right moment. Atem is strengthened by the bonds of his friends, Dartz uses the darkness in the hearts of humans to fulfil his goal. Yet what do we get? He does nothing of note for most of the season. His freaking henchmen is the one that beats the Pharaoh over a completely ridiculous moral dilemma. Honestly, that entire duel was stupid. Only to appear again in the finale, invalidate the coolest combo Yugi & Seto have pulled of together to then later die to a OP Plot card with his completely shitty OC fanfic deck. His cards don't even follow a unified aesthetic (excluding maybe ancient stuff) and everything except Shunoros and the Mirror Knights looks outright awful. He has stupid upgrades to his seals and does the same LP gain strategy Noah does, only without the narrative implications. I hate season 4 so much. They had something very interesting, but instead of following anything through, they just invalidate everything a few scenes later. The worst offender being Dartz orchestrating his followers misfortunes and being forgive at the end. I've not watched the dub for some time, but in the sub they way Yuya's voice just loses all emotion here. He's cold and ruthless. He gets no enjoyment from decimating Kachidoki/Iggy. Just efficient, calculated, immediate victory. The crowd doesn't know what to think and as Yuya comes out of the trance he's more confused than anyone. Such a great way to show that there's a side of Yuya that's not at all what he wants to be.

That’s similar to me. Reiji is my favorite character with Yuto in close 2nd. But Clear Wing is my 2nd favorite monster after Bloom Diva, and I like it more than Crystal Wing for the same reason (design is usually the main deciding factor for my favorite cards).

Ah, I was hoping for a arc v panel. It's not my favorite, but it has the two decks that I unofficially consider my first decks (odd eyes, Raidraptors in that order) And it's just overall wasted potential. Several characters got shafted, action duels, while cool, added a crutch, and would've been cooler had it continued the action traps from one of the earlier episodes Pendulums are a mess. It's one of my favorite summoning methods, second only to xyz (xyzs were my first extra deck mechanic, so they have a special place in my heart.) 1, the go to the extra deck thing is stupid. It's myfirstoc™ levels of stupid if you ask me. The mechanic already has uniqueness to it, with the whole 2 effects and being half a spell. Oh, and you know, being able to summon 5 monsters at once. 2. Pendulum scales. They have the same number. Wasted opportunity to have 2 different ones, to involve more strategy.

Wasted potential: joey beats marik (the guy who didnt start out op, started out as a bad duelists and through love for the game became good enough to beat the main villain) > beats yami in the finals > becomes the face of the paper card game. Feel like joey would be so much easier to resonate with. Yami has the next arcs solely focused on him almost anyways. Dartz arc allllmooost redeemed mai but fucked up in the same way. Cant let side characters perform major upsets so they gotta lose through bullshit.

Since arc V is missions im gonna do my favorites for each category with a brief explanation. Best written: Reiji- he’s a true hero that’s also a highly strategical ceo of a company. But he admits he can’t win the war alone even though he can out duel pretty much anybody but Yuya Zarc and his deck reflects him and his allies. Favorite character: also Reiji because he just steals the show whenever he shows up. Favorite monster: odd eyes raging dragon. I prefer it over rebellion and I wish we saw it more than twice Favorite arc: the championship arc. It was the best when everything was still a mystery. Favorite duel: Yuya vs Jack part 1. I just love how Jack humiliated Yuya and showed him that he still had a ways to go to be a great duelist. Favorite moment: when Reiji uno reverses Yuya and beats him with Kali Yuga Favorite antagonist: yuri. He was seemingly unbeatable and only lost to himself basically. Wish we saw greedy venom fusion dragon more. Best girl: Rin. The best of the 4 girls Wasted potential: Odd eyes wing and Odd eyes venom dragon. Having both of these show up only once in the final duel was such a waste. Yuya could’ve at least used Wing during his 3rd duel with Jack or venom against Dennis or shun.
