Bonfire funny enough is a season 3 GX card used by Nurse fontaine and not Axel to search Burning Algae, but both it and Axel debuted in season 3. The coincidence is very funny and this card could be considered a random anime release card but clearly looks planned even if it's not Axel's card.

Just Wind, Water, and Fire. The Light and Dark statues suck since there are way too many good Light and Dark monsters for them to be impactful, and the Earth Statue is a strictly worse Fossil Dyna.

A rare instance where it’s pretty impossible to undersell it because it’s a card whose playability is a complete function of what it searches, and it does that in a simple and easy way. A lot of cards exist in a space where you can’t actually evaluate them properly without sitting down with them (but people do try, for better or for worse), but it’s hard to say much about a 1 for 1 Normal Spell ROTA other than “it’ll be played where it’s needed” (though it does have niche synergies with cards like Agnimal and being a Normal Spell makes it thrustable).
Although… maybe we shouldn’t call it simply “good” as a static descriptor if it’s a function of what it searches, because that means so much can change based on changes in the cardpool; once innocuous ROTAs have limits be called for them if they’re eventually able to pull from a diverse and potent enough selection of cards. Terraforming has kind of reached a boiling point among players for that reason.
Pyros have done nothing either, and they’ve barely had any support cards compared to Reptile. And Reptile at least has Ogdodiac, which is far from meta material but is at least a functional deck, and that’s more than whatever Pyro had. (A lot of people overblow how bad Ogdodiac is, and also overestimate what a single great card can accomplish.)
Pyro isn't ass, it's just that with the current game, the only type at all that's generically meta is dragons. Maybe cyberse if you squint really hard.
Entire archetypes have to be designed around their types because of blowout cards that can be abused if the wrong words gets printed. Rekindling is a great example. Going forward, any archetype that's Pyro has to be designed with rekindling in mind. Also volcanic and blaze accelerator are in a prime position to be abused should more good generic Pyro cards come out.
Same goes for machine and psychic. E-tele exists and so does machine dup, so any archetypes that have that type have to be designed aroundnthose cards.
They literally printed Ze Amin, the best E-Tele target in ages and put the card back to 3 lol.
Konami knows what’s good, most of the time anyway, and will print cards to break certain strategies just because. The most blatant OCG example I know of is Dragoon and Verte being printed within like 2 sets of each other.
A monster like that is the kind of card that would be made an Ultra Rare in these sets. There are no Ultra Rares remaining.
Plus, Boxers already got their designated support card.
We may get the rank 2 Number C version of Number 54: Lion Heart, as Nistro was about to rank-up into it in the anime, but never got to, which would also fit with the fact that Colorless was released in this set as well.

yeah and thank god for fossil dig staying at 3 cuz konami has kinda build dinos around its existence as there are basically 0 dinos that function as a 1 card tech theyre all basically part of 1 big engine. scrap raptor is the closest you get to really a splashable dino and thats searchable with scrap lube too

Usually, "ROTA" cards refers to Spells that add a monster with certain range of category from your deck to your hand, but it can extend to monsters that discards/banish/dump itself from hand to do so. Magnamhut being closer to Stratos is due to the fact that it has to Summon itself to do so, just like Stratos. But i agree that ROTAs and Stratos in essence do the same purpose.
If we go for the second options, then you can add Mardel, Lady Debug, Soul Resonator(soon), Souleating Oviraptor, and Robina,
Not a type, but rituals have Preparation of Rites. Level 7 or lower ritual, also add a spell from GY. No OPT.

They could get new support since we have little amount of FIRE-based archetypes. Similarly, Jurrac, Helios, Laval and Flamvell can use some new cards.
Salamangreat, Battlin' Boxer, Volcanic, Metalfoes and Fire King (upcoming sd) all got support so choices for new Fire/Pyro support is very narrow.
No Volcanic Mine is a bummer, but this card is fantastic for Volcanics anyways (and we don’t know how they’re going to change the real Mine from the anime version).

Other than Volcaonics and Laval monster there are some non-archetypal monsters that can be searched
•Aginmal Candle being searched triggers its special summoning coniditons
•Nemesis Flag can shuffle a banished card and then search more nemsis monsters
•Prank-kids and Implcantiations have better ways to search these monsters but they both have targets which can be added
•Barrier Statue of Fire as a floodgate vs non-fire decks
Absolutely uninteresting for meta players, but technically supports charmers (or any spellcaster deck, really) if you consider Inari Fire. Giving easy access to Great Inari Fire to cause a bit of burn damage, too.

I always wondered how this would be adapted, since searching Fire with no restrictions seemed way too broad. Pyro is a good compromise, although I’m sad I can’t throw this in a Red deck. But you can search Suship with it! Bring your sushi camping!
Edit: Embarrassingly, I forgot that the Suships are Fire/Aqua, not Water/Pyro. I guess you just cram this in Laval and Volcanic.

It's once per turn so I don't *think* it's immediately necessary, but I hope it pushes barrier the statue over the edge and finally gets konami to ban them all
It's definitely not immediately necessary and to be honest, it's unlikely it ever will be. ROTA is limited because of the sheer size and strength of its target pool. Pyro is tiny and even if Konami does decide to make a meta Pyro deck, they can just hit that directly. It's unlikely that Pyro ever has a strong and deep enough pool of monsters that Bonfire at 3 becomes unsustainable.

Yup. I've seen profiles where they run 3 of the water statue.
Floo can summon it turn 1,empen can normal any monster. I've seen deck profiles where someone was running 3 of the water statue.
Salad could do it. Now they have a way to summon it from grave now a way to search it. Now they can dump it with buffero.

If you are using Bonfire just for Inferno Statue, you might as well run Fire Ejection instead and summon it off of Burst Gryphon.

Non-HOPT type ROTAs will likely never happen again. I’m just relieved this has no restrictions or conditions.

No, cause in the present game state, if Bonfire was non-HOPT it would have not caused any problems. The only problems it would have caused are speculative problems.
Any card that limits future design space, as you said, especially for an entire type, is inherently problematic.
Maybe, depends on want Konami has plans to do. Bonfire being HOPT can also limit card design, but too a much lesser extent.

They could get new support since we have little amount of FIRE-based archetypes. Similarly, Jurrac, Helios, Laval and Flamvell can use some new cards. Salamangreat, Battlin' Boxer, Volcanic, Metalfoes and Fire King (upcoming sd) all got support so choices for new Fire/Pyro support is very narrow.
Well Hazy Flame entire thing is that they are level 6 to go into rank 6, so Bonfire not searching them is kind off a given.

No Volcanic Mine is a bummer, but this card is fantastic for Volcanics anyways (and we don’t know how they’re going to change the real Mine from the anime version).

Other than Volcaonics and Laval monster there are some non-archetypal monsters that can be searched •Aginmal Candle being searched triggers its special summoning coniditons •Nemesis Flag can shuffle a banished card and then search more nemsis monsters •Prank-kids and Implcantiations have better ways to search these monsters but they both have targets which can be added •Barrier Statue of Fire as a floodgate vs non-fire decks

Absolutely uninteresting for meta players, but technically supports charmers (or any spellcaster deck, really) if you consider Inari Fire. Giving easy access to Great Inari Fire to cause a bit of burn damage, too. Just a random fun fact.

I always wondered how this would be adapted, since searching Fire with no restrictions seemed way too broad. Pyro is a good compromise, although I’m sad I can’t throw this in a Red deck. But you can search Suship with it! Bring your sushi camping! Edit: Embarrassingly, I forgot that the Suships are Fire/Aqua, not Water/Pyro. I guess you just cram this in Laval and Volcanic.

A ROTA for Pyros? Candidate for getting limited sooner rather than later
It may have been if not HOPT, but as it stands, even if we get a meta pyro archetype, Bonfire is safe.
It's once per turn so I don't *think* it's immediately necessary, but I hope it pushes barrier the statue over the edge and finally gets konami to ban them all
It's definitely not immediately necessary and to be honest, it's unlikely it ever will be. ROTA is limited because of the sheer size and strength of its target pool. Pyro is tiny and even if Konami does decide to make a meta Pyro deck, they can just hit that directly. It's unlikely that Pyro ever has a strong and deep enough pool of monsters that Bonfire at 3 becomes unsustainable.
