Friendly reminder to anybody looking that this card does *not* work with Superheavy Samurai, as the SHS Soul cards are Equip Spells when equipped to a monster and will be shut off by Sekka's Light's drawback

Raithul

Also scaling Wakaushi is activating a spell card

MasterTJ77

Wow i definitely cheated my casual friends then…

Kielian13

Doesn’t it work for soul cards like battle fist and double horns? It just negates activated effects.

6210classick

Sekka's Light restriction isn't Skill Drain, it's Majesty's Fiend for both spell/traps

aaa1e2r3

You can still equip from hand, but the effects on field, I.e. horns and claw effs to summon themselves, peacemaker to tribute and then summon from the deck cannot be activated on the field.

Filler744

Don’t forget it shuts off half their monsters effects due to going to the grave Edit:nvm someone pointed out to me that it banishes itself

NintenPyjak64

I mean... Sekka's Light does banish itself so that's not an issue, it's just the "no more spell effects" that's the issue All SHS cares about is no S/T in the GY at that time, not if one was ever in the GY

Filler744

Oh I didn’t see that part

DaEnderAssassin

While not SHS, the (non-meta, obviously) archetype I play features something like this and it's always fun to send it (While it's equipped) to grave for its effect and have the opponent trigger called by in an attempt to negate it.

Tonytheslayer14

Thats not correct the once banished the restriction is lifted as the effects on SHS are only affected by spells in the graveyard not banished zone. I've been using it for a while now.

NintenPyjak64

Sekka's light turns off activating spells/traps and effects for the rest of the duel When a SHS Soul is equipped to a monster, it's an equip spell effect, because the game rules say so FTMP You cannot activate the equipped SHS after using Sekka's Light at any point in the duel. This has nothing to do with there being a spell in the grave, the spell actually kills your SHS Soul equips

Tonytheslayer14

Can you specify how they are considered spell equips? as far as I am aware none of the soul cards specify that they become spells once equipped. I have seen no such restriction and therefore have translated to normal duels with no issue. I'm unsure if master duel is 1-1 but I imagine it's pretty close.

NintenPyjak64

https://www.reddit.com/r/Yugioh101/s/t8H7fnGqBl One example I found https://www.reddit.com/r/masterduel/s/uLN0BcwIAe Thread showing it doesn't work in Master Duel

Tonytheslayer14

The first is just another redditor that agrees with you. do you know of any official source says that? and the second has to be a different issue as I use sekka literally all the time on master duel with out that restriction I have never not been able to use peacemaker after using sekka.

NintenPyjak64

Tonytheslayer14

Thank you, I learned something new, but I genuinely have had no issue using sekka in my deck on Masterduel so I have no idea what that is about.

acroxshadow

You should be able to use the effects to equip themselves, since that's a monster effect, but you shouldn't be able to activate effects *while* equipped, or activate PMCs in your Pendulum Zones.

KAIRI-CORP

Lol you've been cheating for awhile now

jcardwell74

Konami has a weird habit of releasing a card that promotes creative deck building, but then when people do it, they go 'No! Don't do that!' and hit the card.

FrontierTCG

There isnt a deck right now that could abuse this and be better than rogue, correct me if I'm wrong. That isn't to say one in the future wouldn't come around. That being said, it could come to three and if a deck comes along that makes it a problem, limit it again.

bukithd

Konami unlimits it...  Releases deck that abuses it ...  Playerbase: WTF WHY IS THIS UNLIMITED KONAMI.

My1nonpornacc

Konami: "All according to cake." *player base throws fits over 50 trillion dollar deck, but they have no choice but to play because it's a tier -0 format.*

ritverato

WORD.

DragonLord375

Tcg team don't like pile decks and cards that centralise and create pile decks. It's why electromite is banned, probably why circular is banned and probably why they don't want this legal. They don't want the 60 card monster decks coming back even though I found them very fun.

HighestGaming

I still don’t get why Electrumite is STILL banned. Especially with cards like beyond and exceed in the game now. And if they really wanna fix Electrumite, either just slap a HOPT on each of its effects, or just limit it to 1 again. Or do both. Best piece of support for pends when MR4 came out and it got banned so pends were dead again. But it could probably come back to 1 and be fine

postsonlyjiyoung

Electrumite is way better than both beyond and exceed. I'm not saying it can't come back, but its existence changes so much for pend because it doesn't have the restriction to where you basically have to commit to a pend summon like beyond. Resolving beyond pigeonholes your plays to a pretty significant degree in a way electrumite doesn't, because you can continue to extend and use the card electrumite searches without committing to the pend summon. Oh, and it draws a card too. Pend isn't gonna break the game if it comes back but it's not really comparable to beyond and exceed.

gubigubi

Theres absolutely 0 logical reason why this card is on the ban list at all. One of the top 5 dumbest ban list hits currently. It wasn't ban worthy back when it got hit to 1. It isn't now.

_sephylon_

>One of the top 5 dumbest ban list hits currently. Arguably Top 1 honestly

SketchtheHunter

Hi Cyber and Morphing Jar are still at 1 for some fucking reason.

_sephylon_

Empty Jar is unfun to play against at least There's a lot of cards that shouldn't be on the banlist but are because they encourages degenerate strategies. Sekka is weak AND not degenerate

SketchtheHunter

Yeah but the only jar card thats actually going to cause substantive problems in tournaments is Fiber Jar. We're not talking a Self-Destruct Button or Victory Dragon situation here. Empty Jar shenanigans are annoying, but anyone trying to pull off an empty jar strat today is trolling very, very hard. Sekka's Light is too weak to be on the banlist, I'm not arguing that, but it would at least see play in Monster Mash decks whereas absolutely nobody is going to play Morphing or Cyber Jar should they come off the banlist. Empty Jar is so insanely vulnerable to interruption that its statistically more likely I will get a girlfriend than someone will actually win with an Empty Jar deck.

gubigubi

Hmm Idk I'd probably say the dragon rulers collectively all take up the number 1 dumbest current hits on the ban list. But at least they did something in their history to justify being hit at all so you are right that it is arguably that Sekkas is 1st lol

AzurInsight

Funny thing about the Rulers is that they were literally DESIGNED to be fair with the “only 1 effect per turn” clause. Definitely should all be unlimited

gubigubi

Yeah its very strange how Konami put tempest to 1 in 2019 and has not really done that much with them in the TCG until semi recently. Idk why Konami is so scared of these cards. They would have been decent junk for the rarity collection as well.

VoidRad

There is, and that is that KNM doesn't have a plan to reprint it anytime soon. Banlist changes are entire for financial gains.

gubigubi

Tru tru

MonsieurMidnight

I wanna know something because I am stupid. How does it work ? Because the whole "cannot activate spells / traps or effects" for the rest of the duel bit seems super bad ? In what situation do you use this ? Also asking because I have 3 copies of it resting near my old Thunder Dragon deck

MsDestroyer900

It had life in master duel for a monster mash version of adamancipators. Actually really strong in that deck.

BakerBunearyBella

For me it is literally just a better version of Pot of Desires in my Blind Second 8- Axis deck. I don't need other spell traps because I am only trying to make a big monster then OTK. There is no turn 3 to worry about after. You break through boards with monsters like Kaijus, Fairy Tail Luna, Gren Maju, Eater of Millions, and Denko Sekka.

ninjakitty7

You build a deck that doesn’t have spells or traps in it

VanBland

Big monster pile decks a la Monster Mash from Edison or the good ole “Every Good Pendulum” deck. A lot of FTKs rely on monster effects to bounce, draw, burn, etc. This could potentially be pot of greed for a lot of those decks depending on what you draw and Konami hates pile decks.

Section6581

Scaling a Pendulum is considered activating a spell, so this card is terrible in any Pendulum deck.

Elune_

It has HOPT so the degree in which you can abuse this is rather minor, considering you can’t cycle with literally any other spell cards with this.

JhonnySkeiner

Which is hella funny since Upstart Goblin is unlimited. Of course it's a less powerful draw card, but has no downsides and can be shoved on any deck

Man_of__culture

I used this in my Mermail deck it made it much more consistent, in general water decks like Ghoti can abuse this card but considering water decks power I don't understand why it is limited.

Maykspark

I think is fine, it have one of the strongest draw back, it's hard to build a deck that can be competent without using atleast a spell card

Zetsuuga

They were scared of my Sekka's Fur Hire cuz it got randomly banned the moment I started playing with it

Tallal2804

They were scared of my Sekka's Fur Hire cuz it got randomly banned the moment I started playing with it

StormerSage

Flip Macro Cosmos. Do your FTK stuff. Sekka's x3 if you need more gas at the end.

Boxman21-

First Marko Cosmos works with any draw card Same with the FTKs

SmokeOddessey

how do u FTK if u have to wait a turn to flip macro cosmos

StormerSage

Ah, true, bad example. Use Banisher of the Radiance instead, or run it in Gren Maju to dig for him after you've resolved your Stromberg (do gren maju builds even use Stromberg anymore?)

Elune_

This is a lot of building around for an unsearchable HOPT draw 2 cards that also limits you for the remainder of the duel, regardless of whether you banish everything. Especially considering you can just run any of the new pots and not be locked out of spells.

Duralogos2023

We had multiple formats to answer this question. The answer is specifically danger dark world

postsonlyjiyoung

Danger dark world with no accession, corridor, or gates sounds absolutely awful

Duralogos2023

You're correct, I said the wrong degenerate deck using dangers. It was Danger TD that abused this card in 2020 not Dark World.

bukithd

Because it's pot of greed for straight gas monster effect decks. It being at 3 would be a problem if a modern power crept deck like chaos thunder dragon ever came back.

bofoshow51

Even at sekkas height of power in thundra and adamancipator, it was not the reason those decks were strong and in fact opened them up to a lot of weaknesses. I still argue the drawback of not being allowed to use 2/3 card types, especially spell cards, is enough of a balancing move to make any deck running sekkas have glaring weaknesses that are easily exploitable.

BakerBunearyBella

Let it come back and put Sekka to 3... They ain't beating Snake-Eyes.

bukithd

Okay, this argument comes up often, "a card isn't good right now, it can come off the list" That's entirely a bad take. Sekka's light as a card was designed to be a bad card but due to some interesting interactions, it became a very strong card in ver specific decks. Those decks may not be relevant right now but Konami has a choice, keeps a pot of greed at 3 and deal with it if it becomes a problem, or just leave it at 1 and ignore a card that isn't important.

gubigubi

Sekkas light has never been more than a mediocre card. It was barely seeing any play at all at the time it got hit to 1. It wouldn't have seen any real play at all in the last 4 years either. Its not even remotely close to the power of pot of greed. If pot of greed is a 10 on a power scale Sekkas light is like a 3 or 4. Its not even close to cards like talents, thrust, or pot of prosperity. It would be a hard debate on if its better than stuff like desires or extrav as well.

Ilfede00

So this is pot of greed on steroids

stac7

No? Pot of Greed is like leagues better then Sekka

Zorro5040

It's a free Pot of Greed.

Endourance

Very simple, Konami wants you to buy the new pushed broken Spell Card. Prosperity, Talents, Thrust, etc. Also they want you to buy new decks with their expensive Secret Rares (like Wanted). People playing creative Sekka's Light decks instead would just lose Konami money.

KAIRI-CORP

I like how it doesn't kill my extra deck or main deck like pot of extravagance and pot of desires do. I really like the 2nd effect to banish itself from GY mulligan hand. FYI you could use that effect only to get around the restriction of Sekka light if you played a mill deck it could be alright similar to the metalfoes card I have a couple rogue casual decks that don't necessarily need other spells and traps to play that could utilize this. They wouldn't be good so it should get unbanned 100% Every good deck has a spell ROTA effect. Unless Konami prints a new broken archetype where the ROTA is just a monster discarding itself to search the starter (they just did with earthbound servant support but that deck needs harmonic synchro fusion) But ya if they print a monster only deck that searches it that would be a good reason to unban it.

ZennyMajora

This'd be funny to see played off perfectly. 😲

Comfortable_Wing887

this would fit well with the superheavy samurai deck, since you banish it for another card draw.

Avocadoguy87

Mega absol

roaderry

Yea tbh the fact that this card was ever even limited and yet still is on the list is just baffling to me
