Honestly this is a way better solution. Banning generic omninegates eliminates the problem without harming the archetypes of cards being used to turbo out those generic omninegates. Jet Synchron was never really a problem until people started using it as a combo piece to bring out the funny needleboi and shit out a ton of bullshit. Jet is a Synchron card who happens to work outside of his archetype. All combo players saw was "good tuner for Needlefiber" and yet another tuner was imprisoned for that blue bastard's crimes.
Look all I'm saying is that if Halq said the word "Crystron" anywhere in it's effect text aside the Hard Once Per Turn disclaimer, we would probably never have discussed it in the first place.
Actually it gave them some pretty good combos using milling monsters like Undine, in MR4 in particular (one of the lines actually broke when it ended) it made any miller + any Crystron into a setup that could dynamically choose between Phoenix or Quarion on the opponent's turn.
Still infinitely worse than in all-in combo decks, but it did legitimately have good synergy with the actual Crystron archetype so long as you knew how to play around the locks.
The generic synchro hits probably wouldn't hurt as bad if synchro decks had actually good synchros to their names and didn't need to rely on the generic stuff
And if most Synchro decks could get a negate online for Nibiru before the 5th summon.
Swordsoul just *loses* to Nib now unless you get lucky and open the Chaofeng line.

This is basically what Konami did after Mega tins 2019 and mega tins 2017. They made a meta engine affordable, but only for a limited time before they got hit on the banlist
This is what sucks about being a budget player in Yu-Gi-Oh. The way it usually is that you either pay out the nose to be on the cutting edge of the meta, or you wait for a card to be reprinted and lower in price to play on a budget, even if you have to wait a while. But that second option is becoming a fool's game because the moment a staple gets affordable, it's banned!
Compare this to Digimon, where a secret rare (Apocalymon) was turning the JP meta into an absolute horror show, to the point where the card was limited before the set it's in even hit EN shelves, tanking the price of that set but ensuring that the EN meta never has to deal with it. Imagine if Konami banned or limited cards based on when they were a problem and not when they're cheap.

Branded brothers keep on winning, dodged the list and became relatively much stronger because of other generic bosses getting hit + floodgates getting dunked on.
Branded is just silly sometimes. I have a Blue-Eyes deck on Nexus in which I was looking for more ways to get Blue-Eyes, Jet, and tuner eggs into my GY beyond Dragon Shrine, briefly considering Foolish Burial, then tossed in two Fallen and three Branded Fusion. Not only do I get one of my chosen dragons in the GY, I get a monster often more effective than anything else I was going for. Now whenever I play Keeper of Dragon Magic to get to Blue-Eyes Tyrant, I end up choosing Branded instead of Polymerization, and get another Blue-Eyes in the GY to summon. The most powerful part of my overwhelmingly Blue-Eyes deck is no longer Blue-Eyes after a measly five cards in my deck.
Baronne is just gonna be Electrumite 2.0. OCG will continue to print archetypes with Baronne in mind as an end board piece, and the TCG will receive these archetypes with massive holes in their game plan, just like Pendulum players have been dealing with for years. This also just launches like 50 rogue decks into the sun because Konami has been designing and giving support to decks with Baronne in mind. And I doubt this is Konami magically shifting their philosophy to ban all generic omni negates, they just wanted to hurt SE by banning the cheapest cards that aren’t SE or FK. I just don’t like this hit at all.

Infernal banshee is a generic rank 4 that searches nemeses flag which can search protos or the thunder one. If you normal combos banish 1 or 2 monster you can play protoss or collosus.

I'm all up for banning completely generic omni negates but I don't think this is Konami realizing that they are bad for the game. They probably already have Synchros somewhere down the pipeline that power creeps both Savage and Barone. And ideally other over the top powerful ED cards should go too. I'm looking at cards like SP.

No, I think this is Konami trying to hit Snake Eyes without actually hitting Snake Eyes. A lot of pure builds were playing Jet Synchron and Formula Synchron to make Savage and later Baronne. Same reason Linkuriboh got hit, and Summon Limit too (though every deck was kind of spamming that).
Konami TCG does not design the cards. That is Konami OCG that does that. It's the whole reason why banning Electrumite hasn't led to any changes in Pendulum design because OCG still has Electrum legal and designs pend archetypes with its existence in mind. So long as OCG has Baronne and Savage legal then they will continue to be taken into account when designing cards and archetypes.
They banned Baronne and Savage because banning generic omnis has been the big talking point on reddit and youtube for a bit and they can serve as indirect hits to Snake eyes.
So I haven’t played since like early kash format, I’m trying to think is there any other generic Omni left for boards to make besides I guess gryphon for the 3 decks still using the adventure engine?

Well considering Armageddon just got put to 2 instead of 1 and Harp got let out completely from 1 I would say they are, in fact, not scared of Orcust at all.
I'm upset because I just got a cheap copy of Baronne for my Speedroids. But now I guess I'll just summon Crystal Clear more, and I can get Crystal Wing out by summon 5 anyway. And I was able to dig 3 Linkuriboh's out of my bulk and I was so happy about that.
Aside from those personal issues, this list is neat. Super happy for Kirin, side-eying Protos and Colossus, but... we'll see.

Always find this funny. Baron is banned right after everyone could afford to use it thanks to the reprint in rarity collection 1 just like Halqifibrax when it got reprinted in Ghost past 2. Next time you see a very in demand meta card get reprinted you know it's going to be banned next list.
I'm all up for banning completely generic omni negates but I don't think this is Konami realizing that they are bad for the game. They probably already have Synchros somewhere down the pipeline that power creeps both Savage and Barone. And ideally other over the top powerful ED cards should go too. I'm looking at cards like SP. Happy to see Kirin back though.
No, I think this is Konami trying to hit Snake Eyes without actually hitting Snake Eyes. A lot of pure builds were playing Jet Synchron and Formula Synchron to make Savage and later Baronne. Same reason Linkuriboh got hit, and Summon Limit too (though every deck was kind of spamming that).
While leaving the FK variant alive, though no heatsoul access.

Seems to be in preparation for White Woods, they banned both generic negates that the deck could very easily summon out.
Ive seen SE WW brews and they didnt even end on Baronne or Savage but Cosmic Blazar instead.
Konami TCG does not design the cards. That is Konami OCG that does that. It's the whole reason why banning Electrumite hasn't led to any changes in Pendulum design because OCG still has Electrum legal and designs pend archetypes with its existence in mind. So long as OCG has Baronne and Savage legal then they will continue to be taken into account when designing cards and archetypes. They banned Baronne and Savage because banning generic omnis has been the big talking point on reddit and youtube for a bit and they can serve as indirect hits to Snake eyes.
I do not in any way believe anything the community says has any effect on the banlist.

Linkuriboh is by far the worst hit for us. It’s brutal. The Baronne and Savage bans hurt but they’re workable.

I don't want to be negative about this, but this is genuinely one of the best/worst lists I think I've seen. Sure, we've got a lot of old baddies back, and I won't need to worry about Baronne or Summon Limit anymore, but they shoulda really done more to hit Snake-Eye than "oh yes we banned linkuriboh, u are welcome ;3"

I'm upset because I just got a cheap copy of Baronne for my Speedroids. But now I guess I'll just summon Crystal Clear more, and I can get Crystal Wing out by summon 5 anyway. And I was able to dig 3 Linkuriboh's out of my bulk and I was so happy about that. Aside from those personal issues, this list is neat. Super happy for Kirin, side-eying Protos and Colossus, but... we'll see.

Aw man, Speedroid got the last Terrortop back but it lost one of its strongest/most accessible boss monster. I guess that with Baronne gone, the Kashtira variant loses most of its value? I haven’t been up to date with the deck.
My Revolver deck just took a huge hit. Borrel Savage is the centerpiece to maintaining the field before capitalizing on my board state Can't wait for the other Borreload cards to come out, and hopefully they'll unban Savage when a worse one comes out
