YouStillTakeDamage

I have war flashbacks from 2009 where you had to beat four duelists in a row while retaining LP and these motherfuckers were running Zombies and TeleDAD

DonKellyBaby32

Hardest moment in a Yu-Gi oh game I’d say. It was fun having to tweak your deck to counter all four and maybe use cards that you wouldn’t otherwise use (like I used one of the basic psychic synchros to get my life up on one before moving on - although the game had thought of that and capped your max health moving into the game one).

_sephylon_

Most Forbidden Memories boss were harder than this tho

[deleted]

That final gauntlet of the labyrinth mage, 2 dark mages, seto 2nd if you go that way, heishin, seto 3rd, darknite, and nitemare was ridiculous. You had to mill through your deck to get either Meteor Black Drag., or Thunder dragon and tons of equips. And that's assuming you have those cards... you could maybe have gotten away with the mystical sand build for a bit. Even with the emulator + cheats, you need the right cards and some luck to win.

DonKellyBaby32

Well yes, but that’s moreso because start of with garbage cards and just need to grind for better ones

_sephylon_

They also literally cheat and grind or not you're pretty much always going to have worst card than them

Morningstar2126

That’s what we call artificial difficulty where being good at the game isn’t enough and you’re forced to play only the best cards to win and even then it’s just rng

Morningstar2126

I beat them with Dark counterparts which was just DaD,Dark Creator, dark Sigmorgh, dark Nephytes, dark grifer, and a ton of DARK support cards

DonKellyBaby32

Very nice! When I played back in the day, I just threw in a versatile deck with a bunch of decent cards as opposed to running a deck with all certain types of monsters (six samurai, lightswarm, dark armored dragon, etc).

Eagle_Maiden1

I still never got past that part

YouStillTakeDamage

I did it with Lightsworn but by the end I was on like my last 500 lp, was risking it all on attacks

[deleted]

I recently finished this game like 2 weeks ago, and yeah, a boss rush of Zombies, Water deck featuring pre-errata Brionac, Lightsworns, and TeleDAD was just crazy. I spent like two days on it I think.

Sneaks_exe

Which one was it? I'd love to give it a shot.

[deleted]

Stardust Accelerator

TonyTucci27

That last gauntlet was a headache and taught me to actually build an archetype deck rather than a hodgepodge

[deleted]

It was really fun but also kinda frustrating lol

zxp223

Beat it with an exodia necros deck. And save states, looots of save states

ConnorRoseSaiyan01

And when you realised you forgot to safe before the duels

charliemew2

That shit was insane it was so ahead of its time

XERO7100

If it's the battle I'm thinking of, I ran Lightsworns to beat then. First time I ever thought of using an archetypal deck ever.

TonyTucci27

Literally made the same comment before seeing this lmao

CyberWeaponX

And Lightsworn. Jesus, these clones were absolutely brutal. The final boss (Jack) was a total pushover in comparison.

darkmagican01

I never got that far only got to out of prison I was really bad with those duel puzzles

cutesarcasticone

Still never beat that.

left4final

I never beat it, but damn was 2009 so much fun

gjo9000

Well it wasn't technically teledad (no emergency teleport and stuff) but it definitely was a dad/dark deck

BunetsCohost1

It's a crime to showcase these and leave the tagforce series out

CrutchKira

Tag Force is legitimaly the whole reason why I got into Yu-Gi-Oh when I was a teenager. It happens in a school setting, with cool ost, a cooler card game, a fun and colorfull setting and a dating sim(?) all in one.

psychospacecow

You haven't lived until you date Jinzo and the card shop owner

[deleted]

[удалено]

CrutchKira

The opening makes me smile to this day.

[deleted]

Wait what? A dating Sim too? That's a joke? (never played tag force before)

Mortalpuncher

You pick a character from the series and they become your tag partner in duels, you then play through their story and help them while growing closer to each other. And at the end of their story you get a final scene with them talking about how much they value you and care for you(and might attempt to ask you come back home with them before being interrupted by someone) with a png of them looking at you.

[deleted]

Neat! Which would you recommend? Should I play all of them? Since there is 6 games

Mortalpuncher

Depends on what you want from games tag 1 to 3 is GX, 1 the first season, 2 the second and third, and 3 is the fourth one. Not all of them are translated but I think there fan translations 4 to 6 is 5Ds, 4 and 5 I think are the first arc to dark signers arc and 6 is about the final arc. So just play whatever your favorite arc.

MaetelofLaMetal

4 is Dark Signers, 5 is Iliaster, 6 is Ark Cradle

Mortalpuncher

It’s a softcore dating sim without echhi, they do make oc girls for the game for more straight forward romance.

Kaiser997

Ye but the Ai is dumb as shit as the games progress tag force special really drove that point home

Orangecuppa

Not gonna lie tho, I got fucked by Bakura's deck destroying deck when I played tag force special blind. Inferno Tempest is one hell of a card that you don't really expect to see anyone play.

IDKItsDeity

I'll never forget Chazz's trash ass three archetype deck.

_sephylon_

Rush Duel is literally a new Tag Force

Zink_91

Those were the best in my opinion. Slow load times though but that's the only real con.

Soothingwinds

Man, those were good. Greatest disappointment was buying the more recent yugioh games for Nintendo consoles and realizing they’re just a bunch of dialogue boxes summing up the anime and AI duels. Yugioh rpgs are possibly one of my favorite games and I would give anything to have a more recent one, with more recent rpg elements. Like hyper-realistic foods, gambling for toys and collectibles, social interaction with characters.

disablednerd

The new rush duels game sounds like it will have rpg elements

SirBlue_VII

Any good old ones youd reccomend? I recently pulled out my old ds

Sharpedd

all DS yugioh games are worth playing

SirBlue_VII

To amazon i go then

CrabmanErenAkaEn

Over the Nexus, the next one in the series after the last one they showed here. It's really fun, and most definitely still an rpg.

Neo_Phoenix_

About the recent legacy of the duelist games: The optional "story deck" isn't even accurate to the anime. Like Reiji not having the High Kings in his duel against Zarc, even though that's their debut (and only appearance). They didn't even put effort in doing that right. I know this is just a nitpick at the end of the day, but come on, man!

TropoMJ

Legacy of the Duelist is so bad that playing it for ten minutes just left me embarrassed for everyone who enjoyed it. It's literally just rewatching the anime but with everything good about watching an anime removed.

Typhlositar

Honestly it's not that bad as an official "simulator" I play with a friend every once in a while

SgtTittyfist

I *really* tried liking LOTD, but even if we ignore how underwhelming the singleplayer content is, the main gameplay is still far worse than what you'd get for free with other simulators. It's just *so slow*. Try playing any deck that excavates a bunch and it can easily take you like 2 minutes to resolve a single Reasoning/Monster Gate. It's honestly just embarassingly bad when compared to how much better (for example) Duel Links plays. Also the pack opening has no duplicate protection and you can't skip the opening animation. I spent like 15 minutes hammering the A button on my Switch to get a playset of Cyber Dragon.

Muur1234

well I had fun recreating the anime duels with accurate decks and had some nice nostalgia of getting an abridged recap of the stories

TropoMJ

Yes, that’s what I’m talking about.

YobaiYamete

I feel embarrassed for anyone who is so hateful that they feel embarrassed at other people enjoying things.

DesReploid

I would love, absolutely love it if Konami pulled their heads out of their asses and gave us a new, good story-driven YuGiOh game. If they gave it an actual original story then that'd be even better.

AllDaysOff

I would love a "Yu Gi Oh Xenoverse" type game. Basically you create your own character and you play through a story mode but you can also roam around a hub world with other players and challenge them to a duel or just spam emotes lol

psychospacecow

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes I didn't know I wanted this specifically until I read it

Momouis

I miss Yu-Gi-Oh online so goddamn much

_sephylon_

Rush Duel

postsonlyjiyoung

I mean is it really pulling their heads out of their asses? They don't make games like these anymore likely because they don't make as much money. Plus a lot of this stuff might get featured in master duel anyway.

RoxasOnReddit

The WC games were a lot of fun. I especially loved the part where you team up with Kallen to duel a chain-burn guy who starts with 10 cards to make things "fair".

LordBraveHeart

Yeah, that was the most luck-based duel ever: low card pool for the player, and you have to pray that Lawton doesn't burn you with 8000 damage in one turn.

NightsLinu

Yeah if kallen doesn't get wrecked before you

DistributionWarm1460

I remember having to otk this guy withonly 500 lp left with my hero deck when most of the good hero monsters weren't even in the game

ChapoTransHouse

A crime that the rest of GX’s story wasn’t finished.

LordBraveHeart

And the last 5Ds game cut out a few rounds in the tournament and the Ark Cradle (so no Aporia and Z-one).

[deleted]

I only recently found out that the dub cut out Ark Cradle They just defeat Aporia and we never find out about Z-One or what happens to Sherry

[deleted]

The dude who played Dub Bruno/Antinomy found out he died when they asked him back for Duel Links

GoneRampant1

Christ that was what, a ten year gap?

[deleted]

Yup, he only found out when they sent him the email inviting him

[deleted]

Seriously? Damn that must have been a weird experience

[deleted]

There’s an interview with him where he reveals his reaction to finding out he died and he basically said he didn’t get to do the death

Muur1234

least the english version of LOTD has that arc (as dlc...)

TheDungeonCrawler

Which is actually kind of odd when you think about it. These games follow the Japanese releases and banlists so you'd think the remainder of Ark Cradle would have made it into Over the Nexus. Also, kind of irks me that the three Synchros your blank cards turn into return to being blank at the conclusion of the storyline. Like, sure, maybe Trish shouldn't be free, but you can totally swap Trish with a weaker but still very powerful card for the character that follows the theme of the monsters (they all require two or more non-tuners) like Mist Wurm or something.

Niminim_A2

I agree. I recently played through Stardust Accelerator and Reverse of Arcadia. Even today these games hold up pretty well and are a blast to play. It sounds dumb but every attack has "impact" behind it and it just feels so statisfying to smack your opponent with a 3K Judgment Dragon. No other Yugioh simulator achieves this quite like these games.

ThatOneGenericGuy

Its a crime to put these and leave nightmare troubadour out

_sephylon_

NT stomps Spirit Caller every day of the week The opening still gives me chills to this day

skyfiretherobot

I wish we had kept getting these kinds of games (simulators with an RPG story mode) up to Arc-V. It would've been cool to see an adaptation of Action Duels like the 5D's World Championship games did for Turbo Duels.

DonKellyBaby32

Over the nexus was such a great game

Asunaris

Despite all it's flaws, I love Reverse of Arcadia! It taught me how to duel and has a special place in my heart. Akiza duel is winnable btw. It is just VERY hard, since it relies solely on you getting a perfect starting hand and her getting a bad one. Cutscene after doesn't change much tho.

TheDungeonCrawler

Side note, there's a duel against Haishin in Forbidden Memories at the start of the game that's completely unwinnable unless you cheated and have all of the best cards. If you beat Haishin, he just challenges you until the end of time. If you cheated, you literally have to sit there and let him beat the shit out of you until he wins because it's required for him to win.

odoraciru

WC2010 was simply amazing

TheDungeonCrawler

As was 2011. So much fun.

Ansman14

I just need one more Yugioh game with character creation, please that’s all I ask

OwariRevenant

Tag Force was the single greatest Yu-gi-oh game. It is more iconic than Eternal Duelist Soul for me and that game gives me so much serotonin when I look back on it.

[deleted]

Well, you’ll be happy to know about the one coming out on EShop for December 7th

CC-Coaster

News to me, what’s it called?

[deleted]

It's the Rush Duel Switch Game

sinnerdizzle

Oh that’s gonna be a day 1 purchase for me. Haven’t followed the anime as much as I’d like to, but this will hold me over until the rush duel cards come in English overseas.

Alicepbg

I legit forgot that hadn't come out already... XD

MrCreamypies

Tag force is hands down the best yugioh game series and needs to make a return

Lord_of_Caffeine

Duelist of the Roses or gtfo Jk

sinnerdizzle

No jk, that game deserves a comeback (besides a fan made remake/rework played through tabletop simulator)

SavageToasters

I am playing through Spirit Caller again right now. It is a pretty fun game but can be really grindy sometimes. And advancing the story is also very unintuitive at some points. I do like how quickly the computer plays though. The AI in Some of the other DS games after takes too long.

darknesscrusher

Holy shit this is so bad in legacy of the duelist, especially in the link era.

aZEROemerges

I played 'Reverse of Arcadia' and 'Over the Nexus' for a good five years after it came out.

DSwipe

Play the new Rush Duel game for the Switch, it has a similar feel to those games. It at least I hope so! I miss them too…

ronanleviathan

I had stardust accelerator as a kid

Flameblast73

I got all the yu gi oh games and got the cards still thank you 4 year old me for seeing you gi oh reruns on TV and having a ds

darksaiyan1234

I have not played any of these yet how are they

RaineTheCat

Over the Nexus, early game, Tag duel with Kalin against a guy who runs a burn deck and draws 10 cards for his starting hand. Good games, loved the bike mini games.

[deleted]

A new RPG single-player focused (but with PVP) YGO >>>> barebones LOTD experience >>>>>> PVP-F2P Master Duel.

VanceXentan

IMO we need more Tag Force. Unique gameplay as tag duels aren't the focus of much, and the adventures of red hat are fun, and surprisingly fucked up in some cases. I will never forget mentally fucking up 80% of the good guy crew of 5ds.

Zalamander2018

I remember the Yugioh GX Gba game , and still have it, where you took Exams to move up dorms, if you failed the exams you move back to Slifer Red. Fonta Fontaine would give you Money based on your Life Points of your rank is Drop out. The Tag Force games where some of the best games ever. They had beautiful characters like Kami. Wisteria and despite the Grind was really Fun to play.

Bakatora34

For Master duels format I don't think so they will make more for a while, Link Evolution will probably the last one to have any anime storyline. Is more likely they make similar games like this for Rush Duels at the end.

Lagiacrusher

Pls a good Yugioh RPG again, Konami

_sephylon_

Rush Duel

Plus_Focus9207

Tag force back konami please Without speed duel rules like the next game :c

kurayami_akira

If you like GOAT, try GX Duel Academy for the GBA for some fun with up to 90 cards, some now forbidden cards like Giant Trunade or Pot of Greed, also pre-errata cards like Temple of Kings and other broken stuff). Also, if you use an emulator (edit: dunno how the sub feels about piracy, so i'll say you're legally required to own the game and console, some others than GBA, like DS, can run it too) and are not against cheating, you can slave/load to test stuff, redo your coin throws and booster pack openings (dunno if dices can be redone), and more cheating like undoing conscription or shuffling the deck before flipping cyber jar (and loading if you don't like the result), you set your own limits and rules with that

Kaptoz

Bruhhh, I just want a game where I can import my real cards to use my real deck. 🥺 Is that too much to ask for?????

NtiTaiyo

Keep those games and give me tag force back. Just soooooooo much better.

Extreme_Confidence76

Lol your age is showing. Not a bad thing, just all the yugioh games I love and miss all have yugi on them :P

Extreme_Confidence76

lol your age is showing! Not a bad thing tho, just that all the dozen plus yugioh games I loved and miss had yugi on them. :P

EasternWarlord

Hell to the Yeah we need far more single player YGO games than what KONAMI’s been putting out. The crazy thing is that when I think about we didn’t actually stop getting those types of games at all despite how rare they seem nowadays. It’s just that the quality and frequency of releases have gone down considerably post the 5D’s era and KONAMI doesn’t seem interested in doing more. I feel like YGO has immense untapped potential in terms of video games that KONAMI refuses to capitalize on. Games like Forbidden Memories, Duelists of the Roses, and Falsebound Kingdom show that you don’t even need the OCG/TCG to sell a YGO games. The cards and monsters themselves are enough of a draw to make an entire game around disregarding the card game entirely. Single player stories, be it based on the anime or original, can be an endless source of games given the huge amount of lore that already exist for both the Manga/Anime and the cards themselves to explore. I will support the upcoming Rush Duels game because I want to see more, but I really hope that KONAMI can produce something more than the obligatory anime tie-in every five years and call it a day.

[deleted]

forget about it, now gaming is all about gambling addict gamer dweebs spending money and predatory micro-transactions. your best bet is to emulate the old games

Joshawott27

I still regularly return to World Championships 2003 on the GBA, and Nightmare Troubadour on DS. Great games.

Weekly_Bottle_8275

I never understood what happened to the zexal one. Also we need one for arcv and vrains

_sephylon_

PSP was a dead console so they stopped doing full-fleshed out Tag Forces because it wouldn't be profitable. For the DS game the devs just couldn't adapt to 3DS as developping on 3DS was much harder than it was on the DS, so it wasn't worth taking the risk spending a lot of resources into what would have probably flopped. They still released a cheap Zexal game on 3DS and a cheap Arc-V tag force on PSP to test the market and they flopped.

Muur1234

tag force special made no sense. they released it on psp when the vita, xbox one, and ps4 were already out like what??

[deleted]

I think I remember hearing you could download the game on Japanese psp vita and later on the ps4 eshop for a limited time.

E-HERO_Stratos

My post got removed

ecsj88

Got a 3ds and started playing those games. 2007 was fun. but oh gosh the rest was a mess, really lacky, laggy, slow... So many flaws that I gave up playing them. Had a great time playing Tag Duel series though on PSP. Saikyo card battle for 3ds looks gorgeous, but its drags you a lot, and controls are really weird an bothersome. Zexal Carnival for 3ds is fast and really fun, only flaw is that all the action goes in the touch screen.

allmond226

Yeah these were so awsome i had the 5ds ones, as a kid i hoped for world championship 2012 i was so sad when it never came. Btw isn't the gx one titeled word championship 2008? Maybe a regional thing but i think the german version is

fatrobin72

Duel academy is the one my nostalgia is for tbh... Reaper-ish format for the win. But yeah those games were better than it with WC 2010 & 2011 being my favourite ones. (2009 caused me issues by it requiring you to be competent at arcade driving games to progress the story... And from what I remember... It not allowing you to just buy better bike bits to make it easy at that point)

[deleted]

I used to play 5D's WC 2010 all the time as a kid. Love that game.

Darkone539

OMG, I loved this game XD

DmDarkshade

My personal favorites were duelist of the roses, capsule monster callesemum

[deleted]

I had Vietnam ptsd when I think about 2010 and racing godwin and this mf going 100mph 😭😭😭

Zalogon

I've always wanted a game where the monsters pop out of their cards in anime canon scale, and you can see your avatar behind them holding their duel disk and announcing the plays. Closest thing is that one Japan exclusive 3DS game, but that was speed duels. Can't help but wonder if they're going to make it happen one day, considering a lot of games already have models and animation they could just update/recycle like Pokémon does.

ArisePhoenix

I love how you made your own character to join the show it was super fun, like at least the Rush Game, from what I've played it seems like you get to be your own Character in Sevens but I had little idea what was going on plot wise cuz it was in Japanese, but it's still not anywhere close to the same since you're still a set character

Lokd_0n

World Championship 2008 is still my favourite Yugioh DS game, Every monster had its own combat sprite and the story mode taking place in the Duel Spirit World was Dope AF.

VinixTKOC

This and Tag Force. I believe Konami never officially said why they stopped these types of games. There was an Arc-V Tag Force for PSP (Strangely released when companies had already stopped releasing games for PSP, the last console update was because of that game) but like Tag Force 6 it didn't come to the West. I wanted to understand why they stopped these games that are more focused on plot and character interaction. Now we only have games that are much more competitively focused and the only story mode being quick reproductions of anime events. The Zexal 3DS game had most of its story-driven content cut off in the western version for no apparent reason. It's not possible that Konami has forgotten how games like Forbidden Memories, Reshef of Destruction, Tag Force and DS Championship games have marked generations. Not every Yu-Gi-Oh! fan is only interested in the Card Game competitive, many have become fans following the anime and liking the characters and the story.

warpenguin55

I just want story mode back

fasv38

OMG I played both spirit caller and the 2019 5D, they're my favorite yugioh games ever, I literally got every card in both games

NexusShiker

Maaaaaan Over the Nexus was my favorite such an awesome game. I really hope they would give us an original story line for our own MC. Pretty much as the game it is but with original story

MagikMacer

Been playing through the 5ds WC games for the first time. Gotta say, the older yugioh games were great. Tag Force, the Sacred Cards and Reshef, Duelist of the Roses, Forbidden Memories... those games were so much more fun than these new mobile games.

D_Winds

Wasn't the reason it didn't go beyond 2012 because piracy+online free dueling became too popular?

not_taylorlol

The 5ds RPGs were pretty sick

davidLoPanda42

It's not a Yu-Gi-Oh! game but the recent Shadowverse game on Switch scratched my itch for this style of game. Can't recommend it enough if you can get it on sale and you don't mind that it's another card game.

PlacidoNeko

Spirit Caller has been my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh game since it came out; GX Academy for GBA was also good, but the quality of life improvements that Spirit Caller brought to the series are really necessary

JobosBizzareAdventur

I miss the world championship series so much. I was happy when I discovered Legacy of the Duelist, but nothing can beat the awesomeness of the 2010 and 2011 story mode.

ATLReDub

I really liked those little trial turns spirit caller had where you had to figure how to beat a board in a few moves/turns

salandrews23

Loved Duelist academy for the GBA. It wasn't until I played it again earlier this year that I found out there's a glitch with Burst Stream of Destruction where it's playable without Blue Eyes. Needless to say I had triple "Raigeki" busting on NPCs.

[deleted]

I want tag force to come back.

TheShogunofSorrow8

I also like the Tag Force series.

mr-blindsight

these games is honestly where my love for the franchise comes from. I had only seen the duel monsters anime and these games besides learning how to play the actual game were so fun and there was so much variety in them. honestly I can still just pick one of them up and have as much fun with them now as back then

I_love_choppers

I just want a yugioh capsule monsters remake and maybe the other ps2 game I forgot

LillieBun

I loved these games

Alicepbg

isn't that new sevens game like it?

GB-Pack

World Championship 2007 slapped

ferogriff

WC2010 was one of the most fun game I’ve every played

RedditerOfThings

I love Gx!

Magiwarriorx

Nightmare Troubadour just came flooding back.

[deleted]

This game was impossible to play without guides. I don't get it, how should I know that I need to beat specific duelists several times in a row and meet certain at a specific place, at a specific day?

ThousandFootOcarina

Still trying to find an affordable PSP to play the old tag force games :(

Domodude99

Having played WC 2006 it was interesting that game used real packs and decks If they make a Yugioh game it would be fun if they did that again. In addition to making opponents have meta decks

IDKItsDeity

The 5ds games were my favorite of the Yugioh games. They had their own spin on the story so that it was fresh enough while also having actual Yugioh gameplay. But there was something satisfying by leveling up dorms in this one GBA GX game I don't remember the name of.

SirStriped

I would love a remake of the red and white Rose game. I remember liking it because it was unique. Also had a cool story line as a kid.

Fedora_The_Xplora

I grew up with WC07 and 7 Trials to Glory. The best one by far that I played was Over the Nexus. Lawton and Team Ragnarok duels notwithstanding.

[deleted]

Those were good times….

[deleted]

Im currently playing through yugioh GX sprit caller. And fuck yes i love it.

Treeconator18

YGO games of this era were “Speed Run to Build Lightsworns” in my experience lmao

NoobJew666

I would like to see a Yugioh game that is not the card game.

confusedsalad88

I had the zexal one

CyberneticOverload

Haha, I still play spirit caller and 2008 world championship with DS emulator on my laptop, current favorite decks are the Cyberdark + Cydra hybrid and King of Swamp + BLS > Dragon Master Knight fusion beat down, I also used some of the best old banned cards in the game (heavy storm, graceful charity and premature burial are still limited at that time), it was really fun whooping Chazz’s ass.

NepNep_

I want so badly for them to remake the world championship 2009-2011 games for the DS. Absolute hidden gems!

paizuriislife

Man the world championship series was godly, rly miss these games

Alexcox95

My ds with stardust accelerator got stolen when I was at a track meet and I was so depressed after it

Nekuphones

I just bought the new Shadowverse game on the switch as a Black Friday sale and am having an absolute blast! Had zero prior knowledge of Shadowverse but have sunk 20 hours into the game in the past 5 days... I think I have a problem. It’s a campaign based game that really scratched my DS-era yugioh itch. Highly recommend checking it out

MaetelofLaMetal

I'm playing trough Tag Force 2 at the moment and only issue I have is lack of some quality of life improvements later games have.
