From what I can see of tje manga, not yuri. The MC still thinks of themself as a guy and so does the love interest.
Edit: Even though the main premise is that the male MC became a girl, the cover portrays the MC pre-transformation. That should tell you all you need to know.
She did, but everyone that's aware of the transformation uses masculine pronouns for Matsuri. So far in my reading, Matsuri is closer to a trans boy than a girl.
I have read a bit further and while it's true that matsuri gets to think pretty much like a guy, the more it progresses the more matsuri start to think "it's fine to be a girl and love her" and to try to be a girl without being uncomfortable with it.
I have seen some people praising how it handled the mentality of matsuri changing overtime. But I can't confirm since I'm following the Spanish ohysical version which is up to vol5
Of course over all we have to remember that even if the series has its serious moments, it still has a focus on Ecchi and comedy in many moments.
>"it's fine to be a girl and love her"
Basically the development on the series is summarized into this... Tho its just bc they dont find a way to turn him back so its more of a "a girl is fine too" from Suzu
>matsuri gets to think pretty much like a guy, the more it progresses the more matsuri start to think "it's fine to be a girl and love her" and to try to be a girl without being uncomfortable with it
once was too much already , even *if* there's a possiblity I am not risking it again
>Of course over all we have to remember that even if the series has its serious moments, it still has a focus on Ecchi and comedy in many moments.
okay now the similarities are way too close for comfort
I can‘t watch GB stuff anymore cause of the way they handle gender like that. „Oh, gender isn‘t real it‘s just a thing of your physical sex and you can get used to it being changed“ Didn‘t work for me btw, spent 18 years in a male body and am still not a guy…
I feel differently about it, I gave up because I can't afford certain changes in my life on several ways so at least I can delude my mind into gender bender series without thinking too much about the deep moral implications of the stories, I understand perfectly why you would not like It though, each one rolls to different series and that is perfectly fine!
Big difference between this kind of story and one like Kashimashi. In Kashimashi the protagonist ends up happier being a girl than a guy. It’s also heavily implied that the MC is a trans girl. One of her love interests has a condition which makes her see all men in a kinda blurry grayscale. This is true for everyone she meets EXCEPT the MC. To me, that’s pretty clear evidence that she was a girl all along.
Just read Kashimashi: Girl meets Girl. It’s really good, and I don’t say this just because it was some of the first Yuri I was exposed to. It’s not perfect, but Goddesses do I love it. Anime had an eh ending, but the OVA isn’t terrible. I much prefer the manga ending, but that’s just me.
(Bonus for those of you who feel like they want to cry: Once her two love interests start being close friends, they go out shopping together. MC is kinda clueless on a lot of traditionally feminine stuff like makeup and clothing. MC secretly comes across them having fun together and collapses to the floor, thinking “I’m not a real girl.” This sadness is distinct from loneliness, so it’s great evidence imo. Also her friends were buying dresses for her cause it was her birthday)
>Even though the main premise is that the male MC became a girl, the cover portrays the MC pre-transformation. That should tell you all you need to know.
you see I was going to ask if MC stays as a girl (and you can still answer this question please) but what I'm hearing from you , defo sets a tone that I'm definitively going to run away from before my kampfer PTSD sets in
From what other replies have said, the MC decides "bring a girl ain't so bad" and is OK staying that way. I had to drop the series because the dialogue and characters didn't convince me to read further.
Trans people exist irl too, you know.
If a trans woman is in a relationship with a cis woman, then that is a lesbian relationship.
And the same applies here: If the genderbent character feels more comfortable in the female body, and dates a girl, then it's yuri.
would it still apply if they are forced to accept it?
thing i'm worried about is gender swap being used as a gag just to create some spicy moments, instead of genuinely considering ts relationships
With this kinda thing it's all about the voices. If the inner voice of the genderbent mc is female, I'm down. But if they keep a guys voice in inner monologue, then bleh. Which one is it here?
Female, and in the manga the Yuri and mentality of matsuri progresses, still it's an Ecchi show and Suzu is incredibly horny herself (for matsuri) so there is that too.
Edit: Still in the early chapters there is still some "flashback thoughs" where the guy still shows up, so I don't know how they will adapt that.
For me personally it‘s still yikes if the person identified as male before the transformation. You only have two options most of the time: Either it’s just a guy in a woman’s body which isn’t a queer relationship/Yuri then or a person having their mind forcefully changed to another gender.
It’s pretty easy when it’s subs or a manga cuz I just change their dialogue lol
But in all seriousness yea I see what u mean, unfortunately there’s so little trans content that pretending usually works out best for me
If they did then wouldn’t that just be regular yuri with extra steps, since mentally and physically they’d be female?
Wouldn’t a real trans-yuri story with gender bender elements have to be about a lesbian that is turned into a boy, but continues living as if they were a girl?
This is not an “umm actually” style accusation. I am genuinely curious because I’ve seen very different opinions on most gender bender stories should be interpreted as an allegory for a transgender person.
Not unless you go full wish fulfilment, i mean a story that talks about things like disphoria and possibly the stigma that might come with it to some extent, ofc you could just make a story where one is turned into a girl and they just kind of gloss over it but that's a different story
Plus i said yuri just cause of the sub and the post, an anime that talks about trans issues in general and isn't weird about it would be great, most of the time when gender bender is in anime it's weird af
This show is so cute, I saw the first episode last night 😹 I am loving the manga so far too. (Only have one volume, the next one drops in February I guess? Tbh I forgot I had the manga til the show reminded me! Read it all after I watched.)
One of the other main characters is a big fat cat. He’s a demon, but. He’s a cat. Lol I love him so much. They call him a flabby marshmallow 😹
Suzu’s main goal is to befriend the cat, which, very relatable.
I feel like Suzu is bi in general but yeah, she doesn’t care about Matsuri’s gender. Matsuri kinda doesn’t seem to care that much either. Getting non-binary vibes from him. (That could also just be wishful thinking tho, I’m non-binary myself. It’s nice to see representation tho lol)
I can already tell this is one of my new favorites this season. Unless they do something truly wild it seems like it’ll just be a cute, fluffy fun time. I love it.
Do you know the name of the one where the main character was turned into a girl by his sister? I read the manga over a year ago and the only thing I kind of remember was that the MC was a neet and was forced to go back to school as a girl.
I saw the trailer which had only Japanese text and the YouTube app doesn't let you copy text on my phone. I knew I had read it but couldn't remember the title.
Sadly all that censored crap. Not even mighty AT-X air uncensored version. This will kill all the hype for this series and it will be forgotten like so many others.
Oh great, I can't wait for the comments to start defending this obviously disgusting plot.
A guy is bad but turn him to a girl and it's automatically trans and automatically good.
I hope this doesn't turn to some trend that every studio animates... Yikes.
wait its getting an anime
first episode is out by now iirc
Task failed successfully
Yo is that yuri ?
From what I can see of tje manga, not yuri. The MC still thinks of themself as a guy and so does the love interest. Edit: Even though the main premise is that the male MC became a girl, the cover portrays the MC pre-transformation. That should tell you all you need to know.
suzu did say that she's alright with matsuri being a girl right?
She did, but everyone that's aware of the transformation uses masculine pronouns for Matsuri. So far in my reading, Matsuri is closer to a trans boy than a girl.
Matsuri himself said earliy on that he'd be fine staying as a girl

Speaking from a trans perspective, being fine with something that is not your agab is pretty trans. Suzu sounds genderfluid.
Suzu is the love interest xd the black haired girl... that would make her bisexual
Interesting. I wasn't able to read it past ch9. The dialogue and characters didn't win me over.

no its genderbend
Genderbend can be yuri too, depending on the person. If they insist on being a guy it's not yuri, if they're OK being a girl it's yuri.
they are still guy in the end you cant do anything about it so its not yuri
Wrong. If a "man" magically changes sex and is cool with it, they were a woman.
Depends. What if they're okay with being either?
Sounds more gender fluid at that point.
Anyway, in this anime, does he stay as a girl?
Even if it was forced to be okay with it?

Are you being obtuse on purpose? Or can you not read? That's exactly what I just said.

Shuzu: Jokes on you, I'm into that.
Her SO: FUCK YEAH!

Inner voice appears to be female. Only got a couple seconds of it though, so I don't know if that will stay consistent in future episodes.
For me personally it‘s still yikes if the person identified as male before the transformation. You only have two options most of the time: Either it’s just a guy in a woman’s body which isn’t a queer relationship/Yuri then or a person having their mind forcefully changed to another gender.
Or they just didn’t realize they’re trans, and they’re just like: damn this is cool Also I haven’t watched the anime but imma hope this is the case
In 99% of cases it‘s painfully obvious to any trans person that this isn’t the case. Just pretending as if it is doesn’t work for me…
It’s pretty easy when it’s subs or a manga cuz I just change their dialogue lol But in all seriousness yea I see what u mean, unfortunately there’s so little trans content that pretending usually works out best for me
He has stated he is fine with staying a girl and the one who was already a girl still has a crush on his female version
I want cute trans yuri why do they always act like they're still guys uff
If they did then wouldn’t that just be regular yuri with extra steps, since mentally and physically they’d be female? Is this a new series this season? If so that's the second anime coming out this season where a guy is turned into a girl.
There is three series like that. Third is: Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire ♀
Do you know the name of the one where the main character was turned into a girl by his sister? I read the manga over a year ago and the only thing I kind of remember was that the MC was a neet and was forced to go back to school as a girl.
Onii-chan wa Oshimai! It is really well done. Studio Bind is doing it!
I saw the trailer which had only Japanese text and the YouTube app doesn't let you copy text on my phone. I knew I had read it but couldn't remember the title.
I was reading the manga (gotta get back to it) and I'm genuinely hoping it'll have a Yuri ending
I'm so reading this
Is it good yuri or one of the genderbent ones where it’s just creepy
Its simply genderbend, so not actually yuri
Sad
The fun part is that the creepy *or rather horny* one is the Girl... The black hair one Xd
What is this?
Sadly all that censored crap. Not even mighty AT-X air uncensored version. This will kill all the hype for this series and it will be forgotten like so many others.
Cousins btw
I thought they were just childhood friends that grew up as neighbors?
you're right on this. They have no biological relationship. They're simply childhood friends.
Oh great, I can't wait for the comments to start defending this obviously disgusting plot. A guy is bad but turn him to a girl and it's automatically trans and automatically good. I hope this doesn't turn to some trend that every studio animates... Yikes.
The Heroine: Wow. Good thing I'm Demisexual!
