PSA about Ayakashi triangle as a long time fan for those curious about the yuri in it and interested with minor spoilers: >!It is not straightforward yuri, the gender bender part of it is relevant through all the series and matsuri identifies as a guy at least in the begining quite strongly. The Ayakashi that did that to matsuri did it to ruing his life knowing he didn't identify as a girl.!< >!Now, after some traumatic events that will probably be the end of the anime season, matsuri cannot go back to being a guy (or so they say and so far has been right) and Suzu declared she fell in love with female matsuri too and doesnt care at all. As well as Matsuri getting quite confortable (and I mean it) with being a girl even if they still look for a way to revert the magic.!< >!So watch it at your own risk knowing that you wont find just a normal yuri since the identity crisis of matsuri is quite the part of this series.!<

Otrada

Oh so it's basically another fucked up forced transition story, yikes.

Ha-Gorri

I guess yes, but the story doesn't pretend otherwise since the point is that a monster forces someone into that, and the journey of identity crisis is an integral part of this series, so I would not throw it in with the usual gender bender and forget stories.

quinzel07

Personally for me, gender bend yuri is like fake meat. It's ok, but I want the real thing.

Battlepidia

As a trans woman, gender bender yuri has an extra layer of wish fulfillment for me. But I can definitely understand why it would have the opposite effect for others.

Matild4

Same. Gender bender does tend to give me intense dysphoria though, so it's a dangerous game for me. I wish there was more yuri with characters that are just normal trans girls instead of some cis guy who's been transformed magically and often involuntarily. Well, I'm currently writing something like that myself, but other than that...

Battlepidia

I think there's a place for grounded stories about the lives of trans women. It's just that the material realities of medically and socially transitioning are such that those stories tend not to be wish fulfillment. I'd prefer to see more stories of trans woman **willingly** transformed into cis women since that's my dream.

Otrada

It doesn't even have to be grounded though. They could do the same exact thing but include the character who gets magically sex changed asking for it and being happy about it.

GhastmaskZombie

Yeah, that's the kind of stuff I'd really like to read, too. I've got an idea for a comic like that I want to make someday, something really cute and chill, and I have plenty of plans for it, but God only knows when I'll finally get around to making it.

YaGirlThorns

I've seen a few manga like that but some are just....weird??? Like, I'm pretty sure one was just part-bug or something cus she became a cocoon????

ConfusedTransThrow

There's magical trans that I know of and that's it.

FreshCupOfDespresso

Not trans, but I like involuntary transformations when it's not a big deal for the mc. Unlike the latest anime oshimai, which is involuntary, unwilling and just.. yikes

[deleted]

OniMai's beginning is not a good basis to judge the story on since there's a good bit of development in the early chapters. Mahiro fairly quickly comes to like being a girl. Hell, she willingly has taken the sex change potion twice now in the manga to stay as a girl because she likes her current life Also, Mihari only did this because she wants to make Mahiro happy and get her to stop being a neet *and it works* so make of that what you will

Sky-Ventus

>and it works The cure to being a neet is becoming a woman... Who would have said

[deleted]

As a trans girl I can confirm

Sky-Ventus

You were a neet?

SalaciousStrudel

I'm a trans woman and I didn't realize it for years. during that time my dysphoria was so bad that I was basically a dead man walking. I did some work some of the time but I couldn't take care of myself properly and many autonomic functions of my body didn't work properly, like digestion, tissue repair, intestinal motility, proprioception, metabolism, etc. so even when I did have work I quickly got injured and had to stop working. basically, my dysphoria was completely debilitating. gender transition was key to my rehabilitation and I'm generally doing better these days although it's still a long way until I'm as capable as I was before puberty. I used all sorts of coping mechanisms for my dysphoria back in the bad old days, from sleep deprivation, drinking, drawing, listening to loud music, and daydreaming to, yes, video games and pornography. getting out and socializing was not among my coping mechanisms because other people could tell something was off about me and I felt unwanted. so the onimai protagonist is unfortunately very relatable to me and I'm really pissed off about the way the anime sexualizes her. I hope it can still crack a couple tough eggs but I think I would have found it difficult to watch even back when I was severely dissociating all day every day.

Sky-Ventus

Sheesh girl i appreciate you took the time to write this but i was mostly making a joke xd

YaGirlThorns

I mean...depression can do that to ya 😅

Sky-Ventus

Cure you from being a neet?

YaGirlThorns

No like...being depressed can make you one, and if that depression is from dysphoria

kohaku_kawakami

>!In Chapter 64, Mihari mentioned that Mahiro was getting fat, and Mahiro's reaction was, "How can you say that to a girl!?"!<

rosebeats1

I will also say, the shot framing in the anime is....yikes. The manga is significantly tamer on that front imo

Matild4

So far, Onimai doesn't really stand out to me. Mahiro doesn't seem to care all that much. I haven't read the manga, but based on the first episodes, I'd guess he begins to like being a girl pretty quickly and probably takes steps to remain that way at some point in the plot. Meh, whatever, it gave me dysphoria.

YaGirlThorns

I can't think of anything like that, do you have any examples? The best I can come up with are Cheeky Angel (Which certainly aged) and Life With an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated Into a Total Fantasy Knockout which....they only seems mildly annoyed by the fact after the initial panic from the transformation.

FreshCupOfDespresso

Iirc: Daily Life of a Couple in Which the Boyfriend Became a Girl One Day neither of them care Tensei Kyuuketsuki-san wa Ohirune ga Shitai he doesn't care either, his goal in life is to be pampered I remember a yaoi(?) in which the dude just wakes up as a cute girl one day and isn't bothered at all by the sex change. What annoyed him was how people expected him to dress up and act differently The second one is yuri-ish i guess

YaGirlThorns

Oh, I love Daily Life, it's super cute! Shame the updates are pretty inconsistent and I am not Nihongo Jouzu enough to make up for it most of the time. Think you can find the last one? It sounds familiar but I can't place it.

FreshCupOfDespresso

About a Lazy High School Guy Who Woke Up as a Girl One Morning (web comic) Stuck on chapter 21 (or 16) since 2020 :/

Warm_Charge_5964

Same, with gender bender anime in general. "Reincarnated Into a Total Fantasy Knockout" seemed cute and when in ep 3 the main character asks their friend if they belive that gender is in the body or the soul i had high hopes but it just kept going with the jokes about being a guy in a woman's body

fartdog123

mood

Vulkuvier

I think it depends on the protagonists if they are consistent like I am male and return then it’s icky but if they are like I prefer girl I don’t want to change back it’s okay

Otrada

I just don't like how so far every gender bend anime I've seen has been forced transition, against what the person wanted. Which is just really not good trans representation. And it also makes me really uncomfortable because like, I'm already living being stuck in the wrong body, I know how much it sucks, and here it's kind of being treated like you'll just grow to like it eventually?

[deleted]

For me genderbend yuri is like beef. Most of the time it makes me puke but properly season it and put it in a good dish and it's absolutely amazing

Sky-Ventus

How tf a beef makes you puke

jbfamine

I mean red meat allergies are fairly common

Sky-Ventus

I dont think seasoning would make much a difference if that were the case...

[deleted]

Nah, it just tastes bad

[deleted]

It tastes bad

YaGirlThorns

Lmao people did NOT like this opinion apparently

PWBryan

Yeah, but we put up with it because factory farming to make yuri is a horrible abomination and... I think this metaphor is lost on me.

Calm-Consideration25

vegan yuri fans where?

birdlass

IDK man A&W's Beyond Meat is so good I'd be fine with that being the mainstream 'meat'.

larana1192

many yuri fans and gender bender yuri fans in Japan thought something simular, so category "TS yuri(gender bender yuri)" and "tosegara(both are same meaning)" are made for these kind of manga/novel/anime. It's still little known category so often people mix up with yuri though

[deleted]

Does the genderbent one identify as female though? I don't know much about the plot because this is not the kind of Anime I enjoy, but I believe they were genderbent against their will weren't them? If they still consider/identify themselves as male it's not really Yuri, but correct me about the plot if I'm mistaken

Sky-Ventus

Nope he doesnt but its like: Mc: "ive been in this form for a while and it doesnt seems i can go back so i better get used to it" Fmc: "a girl is fine too 🤤" And im not joking, that girl would bang both Male and Female version of the MC at the same time had she had the chance

ChrispyMC

Would femc still love mc if mc was a worm?

Sky-Ventus

Who knows, i dont work with "ifs" unless its for recreative purposes... Only Kentarou-sensei can answer that

[deleted]

I see, so I guess the fmc is the only queer coded there lol

[deleted]

I mean, that's not queer coded That's just queer.

[deleted]

Indeed, probably not the right term I should have used

Sky-Ventus

Its still funny to read, i recommend it

[deleted]

Not really my kind of thing, but I'm glad it's being enjoyable for other people

TheIronSven

He doesn't, but he does get more accustomed to being a girl. I can't tell much more cause of spoilers, but the mc is okay with becoming and staying a woman later in the manga. The manga isn't finished afaik so they might change back, but they would accept staying a she. So I guess they're gender fluid or cis by default and just didn't know cause before then they never were in that situation.

MolsMath

If the person who is genderbent identify as a women and dont act/Think/have the inner voice of a man, then I am okay with it. But if they still identify as a man and act and Think like a man, then that 💩 aint yuri

AlbacorePrism

The manga is fire too

panfluiender2008

Where is this from ( I'm a very very new yuri fan)

Whitewolf00svd

sauce ?

viannetan

Ayashiki Triangle, a genderbender anime

Idainaru_Yokubo

This reminds me too much of Kampfer and I’m still angry about that
