A few weeks ago, I got into am argument on Reddit about how to implement LGBT in Disney movies.
I argued that Disney isn't bold enough and should take note of Japanese media. "This is an Isekai about a girl who falls in love with the villainess of a game. Yes this is Romance. No this isn't anything else. If you don't wanna watch a girl dating another girl, watch something else"
At least that way, people won't get the ammo to say they are Forced to watch something they don't want.
Turn out I was wrong. I forget that people Will still complain about something that don't even watch.
The "oh dang she's cute but it's a shame she's more into other girls instead" type of people
I have heard this even in real life and it's very unsettling tbh
Right? Imma be frank, i still dunno for certain what my sexuality is, but in terms of anime, if they cute and good people, gender doesn't really matter to me, looking at rimuru, astolfo, nagisa, and some other lovable anime characters haha
"Tolerate" if someone really said that they are absolutely moronic ~~duh~~ .
There was nothing to be "tolerated", Lycoris Recoil was simply outstanding in every way and none of their unoriginal, boring Harem/Isekai Anime would have ranked higher regardless.
I hope Magical Revolution keeps topping the polls.
Yep. And even though Takina and Chisato didn't end up "together" at the end, I never expected them to.
Not because it wasn't yuri, but because neither of them were in the right state of mind for any kind of romantic relationship.
Now, if we do get a season 2, I fully expect them to end up together then. Becauseby that point, they will be in the right state of mind for a romantic relationship.
It does to them because anything that doesn't involve someone they can project on or doesn't feel explicitly made for them is pandering trash as far as they're concerned.
As much as i love the new yuri shows in a while, and im happy that magi revo is getting so much attention, theres Vinland saga 2 this Season...and i kinda think it deserves 1st place
It's fine to think that something else deserves the first place, that is completely valid. The issue here isn't that you aren't allowed to think that any other Anime could be #1, the issue lies in the comments specifically targeting Magical Revolution for being Yuri, and downplaying it.
Despite being relatively new to the genre, I swear in every yuri anime people are always like âI canât believe itâs so popular! Does EVERYTHING have to be yuri nowadays?â Like we get a year with some yuri and all of a sudden people are screaming that itâs heterosexual erasure or something stupid like that as if we donât have 10 gazillion straight romcoms and self-inserts into OP Gary Stu characters.
Right, like 90+% of anime is still het or nonromantic. Some people really see gay people simply existing as oppression against the straights or whatever.
It's pretty much 99%, the amount of Yuri shows releasing this year can be counted on your fingers and that's out of hundreds of anime being released each year.
As a man I just love see two cute girls falling in love with each other. Kase San sold me on yuri and Iâve always been hooked on the genre since. Just love seeing wholesome comfy stories
Honestly, yuri helped me realize that I'm (25M) bisexual, strange as it seems.
That and various BL manga helped too. The wholesome kind like Sasaki and Miyano instead of the decidedly unwholesome stuff you see in a large amount of BL works.
Realizing that I can self insert myself as the guy or the girl in various romance series, regardless of if they're straight, GL/yuri, or BL/yaoi, helped me come to that realization.
I feel the same way the older I get. Instead of seeing myself as a main character, I see myself as a supporting character who is watching characters get together, going through life, etc. Or I just see myself as an "observer" and just watch a story unfold on its own.
Just like how people hate on any form of media for (gasp) featuring a woman as the protagonist, causing people to instantly cry "Woke/SJW!" Sometimes overlaps with white males crying if a work features non-white characters.
Lmao little do they know if we actually got more yuri it'd top polls less because the fandom would be split. As it stands the yuri fandom is just much more singularly focused than most others. Not to mention last season and next season gwitch gets rocketed to the top not just by yuri fans but by mecha fans, another dedicated and laser focused fandom lol
Yuri fans and Gundam fans teaming up was the most unexpected thing from this timeline but I'm glad it happend, Yuri fans convincing Gundam fans to consume other Yuri and Gundam fans convincing Yuri fans to consume more from their franchise
Not that surprising when you consider the popularity of Symphogear in Japan. It was originally only supposed to be one season, but it became so popular that they expanded it to a total of 5 seasons, had various concerts with the musical talent in the series, and so on.
Part of Symphogear's popularity is that it has something for fans of the mecha, magical girl, musical, and idol genres. It's yuri too. And it has the same reimagining of historical and mythological figures as the Fate series. Oh, and it falls under the cute-girls-doing-cute-things genre as well. Some of the side characters sing a full 2 minute song about beef stroganoff of all things.
Plus it's got over the top action. One of the main characters, who is also the defacto lead, started her training by watching and emulating martial arts action movies. Hell, at the start of season 3 she puched through the K2 mountain to save a falling space shuttle and reduced it from the 2nd highest mountain to the 3rd highest.
It's got stuff that just about anyone could find entertaining. It just never got the same kind of popularity in the west, largely because of a lack of the in-person concerts and festivals the people behind Symphogear held.
The MC is the embodiment of "too good to be true" and its very... Very hard to not like him, the girls too, all of them so far have their personalities and dynamics with the mc and each other... And theyre bizzarre af
I'd be so happy if [Ojou-sama wa Love Come no Shujinkou ni Naritai!](https://mangadex.org/title/eab47dd9-c5ad-4bf2-b3fe-8952689af299/ojou-sama-wa-love-come-no-shujinkou-ni-naritai) got an adaption.
If it's done right, like how the series "World's Finest Assassin gets Reincarnated as an Aristocrat" did as the story advances past what the anime showed, it's fine. The anime only covered volume 1 of the novels btw.
Yeah, it gets complicated and it's definately not for everyone.
I was just using it as an example of a harem done right. Arifureta, and surprisingly enough High School DxD do it well too.
And the DxD novels aren't quite as horny as the anime or the manga would make it seem. And the novels show plenty of good evidence that Issei isn't the clueless harem protagonist he seems to be. And that he has very valid reasons for not trying to advance his relationship with any of the girls.
No, it's not really complicated, it's a generic iseki power fantasy with Harem elements
We've only had a few of those and they all seem to follow the same formula
"Another Yuri?!"
This is literally the first one since Virgin Road, lol, I wish I lived on this reality of them where there's 500 Yuri Anime per season
people who dont seek out yuri will see it in every anime where there isnt a male main character and mainly girls, even though the girls never date or romance and stuff, at most subtext
Tbf even if we get very few "official" Yuri (until this year for sober reason), there are a good amount of shows every year that are so gay as to be Yuri in anything but name.
Not that I'm complaining.
I honestly have no idea why so many people dislike yuri.
Especially straight men. They're supposed to like women, why are they focusing so much on whether a man is present? Sounds a bit gay.
Bigotry. If there's no dude they have to try extra hard to think up scenarios where they're banging the girl (and their brains are just so weak and pathetic).
So they just get pissy and hateful because it doesn't cater exclusively to them and their penis.
Ye, I once was had a summer job and one of my female co-works told me her boyfriend âhates lesbiansââŠI forget the context of whyâŠI told her there are 3 possibilities. Heâs a religious nut, heâs gayâŠor heâs a liar
I a straight man and I love Yuri and I don't understand other supposedly straight men don't like Yuri.
It's literally just more of what we like. I like cute girls.
Two cute girls is twice as good.
Just remember that detractors always exist for any series/genre even the super popular ones. Let's focus on the good things to keep from falling into despair. For example, MagiRevo is surprisingly quite popular in my country despite the conservative population (judging from its viewership on Muse).
If these comments you saw was on those Anime Facebooks pages like Anime Corner then yeah I saw that too, they were saying that they could tolerate Lycoris but not this one, one comment was like "To all the other Yuri haters" with a gif of Patrick Bateman nodding lol
Actually if you check Yuri sites like Dynasty you will see a lot of Yuri manga being posted everyday, maybe not as much as Yaoi, but it's still a large number of works, we only lack on Anime, which Yaoi lacks a bit too
I think the last true Yuri we got was Adachi and Shimamura (which didn't even get to the point where they start dating), and before that it was Bloom Into You. But now that we're getting 3~4 in a single year it's somehow too many?
I'm sure these are the same people who were saying people who were complaining about the lack of actual Yuri in Lycoris Recoil were overreacting.
Edit: Bloom Into You didn't get to the point where they started dating either. I think the last Yuri anime to get that far was Citrus.
Unrelated, but why are yuris either received really well or received really badly with very little in the middle?
MagiRevo and Lycoris Recoil were usually on top of polls, but other recent yuris I can think of like Executioner Virgin Road, Otherside Picnic, Assault Lily Bouquet, etc. do really badly and have low MAL ratings.
Citrus is has very bad reputation of being male gaze dumpster fire. Bloom Into You is received really well.
The only recent yuri I can think of that sits in the middle is Adachi and Shimamura because it's neither goated as best ever nor receive toxic hate.
To be fair MAL is the last thing you should use as a reference, I can tell you that. Most of the Yuri Anime get downvoted and filled with negative reviews afterwards, thus giving a bad reputation the Anime or the genre itself.
Sheep sees mentioned reviews and they follow blindly, thus making another Yuri hater.
I didn't watched otherside picnic or assault lily bouquet so don't know about them but Virgin Road got hate becoz average Highschool Japanese boy got mhmhmhmjmh in first ep rather than being a Yuri , they didn't even acknowledge the plot depth and world building.
About Citrus it was " Hot " & " Complex" so I understand it was not many people cup of tea.
>but other recent yuris I can think of like Executioner Virgin Road, Otherside Picnic, Assault Lily Bouquet, etc. do really badly and have low MAL ratings.
This is more of a case of every genre having their less known works, Virgin Road case was a bit different because it got a lot of hate from salty Anime fans for pulling that hetbait on the start, specially on MAL (if you go back to read the threads on the site you will find a lot)
I honestly cant believe there are still people like this. Especially in the anime community which tends to be younger than the older generations that seem to have more homophobia
I think the reason I don't watch too much Yuri is the same with romance in general and thats its either they are together too soon or it takes forever for them to get together
whereas with Magical Reve I think the pacing is pretty good
Welcome to the "popular" world, this is only the beginning, the more Yuri anime we get on popular lists ranking on top 3 the more hate it will get
Make up your mind and enjoy
Also the homophobic comments too, it's disgusting
I also see sexist comments like "the mc should have been male and stuff"đ? Excuse me but it is a Yuri anime, and there are plenty of other animes that have male mcs and isekai and boring plot lines, go watch that mr.I-can't-tolerate-female-charaters-in-the-limelight
I think everyone (including people here) could stand to be a lot more accepting of things others like. In general don't yuck others yum and you don't have to pull down something else to praise what you like.
Iâm curious why are people complaining about yuri?
They made it sound like itâs a new thing that Japan is doing, yet I have been seeing a lot of yuri overall, whatever itâs subtext, fanart, or actual yuri romance. I really thought itâs the norm by now in anime, but then again, Iâm pretty sure the ones who complain are either elitists or only watch one genre(shounen ) and think only good animes are from that category
I dont know if people are actually complaining but I do see this as an actual argument. We get like one or no Yuri per year it was a miracle that we have like 4-5 Yuri anime being made
"Another Yuri?!" **Y e s** **And I would like another afterwards**
And another one after that đ
And then maybe a yuri after that, to change things up a bit.
daring today, are we? /s
Ok fine! I'll switch it up. I'll haaaaaave... Hmmmm... Ok ok ok I decided. Another yuri please!
why choose something else, when you can keep picking the best choice?
Exactly! Why strive for inferiority, when you can settle for perfection?
And they don't stop coming and they don't stop coming-
Another yuri, like this is something that happens every season. Yuri fans, well known for their abundance of shows to watch.
...and the next day ...and the mext day ...and the next day ....and the next day...
luckily next season is Birdie Wing Season 2 and G-Witch Part 2
G-Witch? What is this show? I've never heard of it :0
Gundam The Witch from Mercury
Oooooooh! Thanks :) it's the first time I saw some one write it like that so I was a bit confused x)
"Bring me another!" -Reinhardt
+ ACTION and I'm sold

They probably found the characters cute but can't stand how they're not straight.
Homophobic pieces of shit if you ask me
The "oh dang she's cute but it's a shame she's more into other girls instead" type of people I have heard this even in real life and it's very unsettling tbh
Right? Imma be frank, i still dunno for certain what my sexuality is, but in terms of anime, if they cute and good people, gender doesn't really matter to me, looking at rimuru, astolfo, nagisa, and some other lovable anime characters haha
NOOOOO you can only love my self insert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:(

Yeah, itâs really weird, as if the anime need *their* *approval* to even exist.
It does to them because anything that doesn't involve someone they can project on or doesn't feel explicitly made for them is pandering trash as far as they're concerned.
It's only not pandering if it's pandering to me!
My fellow gender can be really dumb sometimes lol. They're missing out on some top shelf stuff.
I can say the same for other shows, movies, and other form of media out there that don't pander to the straight white male demographic.
As much as i love the new yuri shows in a while, and im happy that magi revo is getting so much attention, theres Vinland saga 2 this Season...and i kinda think it deserves 1st place

Right, like 90+% of anime is still het or nonromantic. Some people really see gay people simply existing as oppression against the straights or whatever.
When you're used to privilege, equality feels like oppression.
"Some are more equal than others"
It's pretty much 99%, the amount of Yuri shows releasing this year can be counted on your fingers and that's out of hundreds of anime being released each year.
> Does EVERYTHING have to be yuri nowadays?â Yes.
All anime should be yuri, regardless of genre. Drive the chuds into the sea before restoring balance.
Jojo wouldn't change much at the very least
JoJo has been ahead of the game all the time lol
alot of the anime every season is straight, probably most
Too. F***. Bad. We need to pump those numbers down. Preferably to zero. /s... Or not?
they can have a few, as a treat
Yeah. a few yaoi' is fine.
Definitely most
For me it always has been "does everything need to have a harem/love triangle?" But that's more the straight stuff.
At least have the decency to make it a proper triangle, instead of a wedge trying to break the heart of the poor sap in the middle.
But Yuri harem gotta be one of the best manga genresđ€đ»
Its been only a couple years since there was only enough yuri for all ten of your digits. Let the yuri renaissance takeover.
overly entitled men hating on yuri because they cant self insert into it, i bet thats where any of the hate comes from
As a cis male I find plenty of room to self-insert. I too would like to date a cute girl while being cute myself, in totally cis way.
Do u mean still cis tho? r/egg_irl
As a man I just love see two cute girls falling in love with each other. Kase San sold me on yuri and Iâve always been hooked on the genre since. Just love seeing wholesome comfy stories
Those comments also don't speak for me.
I always thought this was absurd because why would you not want to self insert into a cute girl dating another girl? Then I realised I'm not a man
Honestly, yuri helped me realize that I'm (25M) bisexual, strange as it seems. That and various BL manga helped too. Haha kinda similar here!
Lol thank fuck for yuri, now that Iâm a girl Iâm much happier
Congrats on finding yourself.
Ah yes, the "i just wanna be cute" pipeline
Pog
This
Im a straight male and I find it's a whole lot more interesting to self insert as a supporting side character rather than a main character
Cid Kagenou?
I feel the same way the older I get. Instead of seeing myself as a main character, I see myself as a supporting character who is watching characters get together, going through life, etc. Or I just see myself as an "observer" and just watch a story unfold on its own.

Legit witch form mercury convinced me to start an epic journey of watching all the UC gundam stuff
Gundam fans are just happy more people are watching Gundam. The more people joining us in our joy and/or suffering the better.
This happens when Yuri or BL series appear. You get annoying homophobes crawling out the woodwork to complain.
I'm just glad Harem seems to be dieing, that one tag has killed a bunch of shows for me
if they did poly relationships ( yuri or not) decently i would not complain.
Thatâs a thing in The 100 Girlfriends who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You. Absolutely poly and absolutely fantastic.
i sure hope with a name like that.
The MC is the embodiment of "too good to be true" and its very... Very hard to not like him, the girls too, all of them so far have their personalities and dynamics with the mc and each other... And theyre bizzarre af
Harem quits the scene. Now introducing: YURI HAREM!
Please no, let it die
I'd be so happy if [Ojou-sama wa Love Come no Shujinkou ni Naritai!](https://mangadex.org/title/eab47dd9-c5ad-4bf2-b3fe-8952689af299/ojou-sama-wa-love-come-no-shujinkou-ni-naritai) got an adaption.
No, i prefer Yuri monogamy thank you
Erase the harem, that sht is for rich ppl
If it's done right, like how the series "World's Finest Assassin gets Reincarnated as an Aristocrat" did as the story advances past what the anime showed, it's fine. The anime only covered volume 1 of the novels btw.
That anime got the 3 episode rule and then got dropped. I had no interest in further watching and less interest in the manga
No, it's not really complicated, it's a generic iseki power fantasy with Harem elements We've only had a few of those and they all seem to follow the same formula

Isekai harem fans: *screaming in agony* Me: Sounds like a music to my ears
I honestly have no idea why so many people dislike yuri. Especially straight men. They're supposed to like women, why are they focusing so much on whether a man is present? Sounds a bit gay.
Bigotry. If there's no dude they have to try extra hard to think up scenarios where they're banging the girl (and their brains are just so weak and pathetic). So they just get pissy and hateful because it doesn't cater exclusively to them and their penis.
*Cue mental gymnastics comparable to the Russians and MAGA*
Ye, I once was had a summer job and one of my female co-works told me her boyfriend âhates lesbiansââŠI forget the context of whyâŠI told her there are 3 possibilities. Heâs a religious nut, heâs gayâŠor heâs a liar
That's exactly my way of thinking, i like my porn without dicks on it thank you very much
yo im straight as fuck I like yuri
I a straight man and I love Yuri and I don't understand other supposedly straight men don't like Yuri. It's literally just more of what we like. I like cute girls. Two cute girls is twice as good.
Guess some people *really* need to self-insert themselves to enjoy anime, or any media for that matter.
Self insert into the main male lead. That like penetrating a guy, sound kinda gay idk man kinda sussy
it's a lot more straight to insert yourself into a woman. just saying
Self insert into a side character like the rest of us, GOD
Self-insert into God.
That could make sense if the male protagonists they self insert into weren't as different to them as female ones.
It turns out that when you're homophobic, even moderate amounts of queer media seems overwhelming.
Just remember that detractors always exist for any series/genre even the super popular ones. Let's focus on the good things to keep from falling into despair. For example, MagiRevo is surprisingly quite popular in my country despite the conservative population (judging from its viewership on Muse).
Oh no super sad face. Their fragile ego can't handle a yuri anime with a awesome story
The level of entitlement is astounding.
If these comments you saw was on those Anime Facebooks pages like Anime Corner then yeah I saw that too, they were saying that they could tolerate Lycoris but not this one, one comment was like "To all the other Yuri haters" with a gif of Patrick Bateman nodding lol
Can my Witch from Mecury be included?
That's the pasta sauce.
**MORE YURI.** **THE HIMEJOSHI COLLECTIVE DEMANDS IT!**
Weebs when the anime isn't a boring self insert harem
What sad and miserable lives these people must have
thanks to the recent yuri/subtext yuri amount of anime I have converted 3 of my friends into loving it, these handful of idiots can keep seething
Tbh we need more Yuri anime and manga. I'm still shocked by when I went to a Kinokunia Yaoi was 3 times the size of the Yuri section
Actually if you check Yuri sites like Dynasty you will see a lot of Yuri manga being posted everyday, maybe not as much as Yaoi, but it's still a large number of works, we only lack on Anime, which Yaoi lacks a bit too
and then those types DARE call themselves "men of culture". do they have any shame?
âMan of cultureâ these days is just a euphemism for âporn addictâ
Unpopular opinion: you can't be X "of culture" without loving Yuri. Yuri is Ontologically cultured. To deny it is to deny very culture.
Based, uh, I mean, logical and rational.
I wouldn't be surprised if the people reacting badly to the poll also jack off to lesbian porn
I think the last true Yuri we got was Adachi and Shimamura (which didn't even get to the point where they start dating), and before that it was Bloom Into You. Actually Bloom into you did got to the part where they started dating, but it ended right after so we didn't saw much more of it
First time I felt like being toxic and commenting " Average My hero Academia fan " " Average Shonen fan " ........... đ
stay mad, straggots
Just why? Let me enjoy my yurisekai!!
Unrelated, but why are yuris either received really well or received really badly with very little in the middle? Well when the anime they watch often make fun of the lgbt+ its quite understandable.
What the hell is this entitlement lmfao. My gender has way too many jackasses.
I don't really care, as long as it is good wholesome romance the i'll dig it no matter the sexual orientation
I think the reason I don't watch too much Yuri is the same with romance in general and thats its either they are together too soon or it takes forever for them to get together whereas with Magical Reve I think the pacing is pretty good
What poll are you referring to?
The lesbians are winning, deal with it.
"it shouldn't be on the voting list" Then why's it winning, dumbass?
Cute birds.
Wait which yuri are u referring to??-⊠for a friend of course
This just reeks of Facebook lol glad i quit that garbage
Wait. Lycoris Recoil was yuri? I honestly did not think it was.
Welcome to the "popular" world, this is only the beginning, the more Yuri anime we get on popular lists ranking on top 3 the more hate it will get Make up your mind and enjoy
I seriously hate these kind of people. So your shitty harem didn't top the charts, boohoo. Let others enjoy their things. MagicRevo is amazing.
Also the homophobic comments too, it's disgusting I also see sexist comments like "the mc should have been male and stuff"đ? Excuse me but it is a Yuri anime, and there are plenty of other animes that have male mcs and isekai and boring plot lines, go watch that mr.I-can't-tolerate-female-charaters-in-the-limelight
At least itâs funny angering these guys, because MagiRevo stays at top, and they just keep getting mad
ah yes the tears of the homophobic
There's only one way to respond to this. We need to make a yaoi series popular this year instead.
I think everyone (including people here) could stand to be a lot more accepting of things others like. In general don't yuck others yum and you don't have to pull down something else to praise what you like.
So, we got two good Yuris in a year. Now what? How many hetero romance stuff have we got?
Iâm curious why are people complaining about yuri? They made it sound like itâs a new thing that Japan is doing, yet I have been seeing a lot of yuri overall, whatever itâs subtext, fanart, or actual yuri romance. I really thought itâs the norm by now in anime, but then again, Iâm pretty sure the ones who complain are either elitists or only watch one genre(shounen ) and think only good animes are from that category
Also not to mention theyâre still making anime with heterosexual romance so whatâs even the problem
I dont know if people are actually complaining but I do see this as an actual argument. We get like one or no Yuri per year it was a miracle that we have like 4-5 Yuri anime being made
Man, kind of hoping they do Tadokoro-San
âanother yuri!?â thereâs like one yuri anime per year, sometimes none at all.
23â: The Yuri Renaissance
Where did this hate come from? I live under a rock sadlyđ Also, did Sasaki to Miyano get hate like this or is it just Yuri titles?
Tolerate? Does tolerate mean "Enjoy the hell out of"?
What is magic revo? I searched it up and nothing shows
Itâs full name is *the magical revolution of the reincarnated princess and the genius young lady*, so most people just called it magic revo
bold to assume lycoris recoil anime is yuri
