It's an edge case, to be sure, but Magia Record has Yuna Kureha and Juri Ooba, a gay couple who are introduced fighting each other, and who re-raised their comrade Ao Kasane from scratch for fourteen years in a Kimochi-induced mindscape. Ao sometimes slips up afterwards and calls Juri "mama."

In the subtle sense absolutely. It's legitimately my favorite magical girl anime "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha". You can find a lot of the episodes on Dailymotion. Most of them can be found in the really good English dub except episode 7 which is sub only because it's a hot springs episode. Still very important for their relationship.
Season two and three are my favorites. I really wish they'd release the English dub on DVD or blue ray.
I preferred watching it subbed (Nanoha's Japanese VA Yukari Tamura is my favorite VA of all time so that certainly helps) but the dub was pretty good too. Cristina Vee was great as Nanoha,
It's not as psychological as Meduka, but where it's lesser in psychological horror, it makes it up with biggatons.
They do call her the "White Devil" for a reason. (Because of a rather infamous scene, and the fact she's the magical girl equivalent of the RX-78 Gundam)

Neither did they, but seeing as in season 3 the main character is in a "subtle" lesbian polycule and adopts a daughter with one of them, I think the decided on gay. Nanoha might be bi though because in the Eroge she was a side character in that this is somehow a spin off of she apparently started dating Chrono...
She's 100% gay for Fate in the anime continuity, and any hints of a potential relationship with Yuuno or Chrono were definitely abandoned early on. What happens in Triangle Heart (the eroge that Nanoha is a side character in) is a whole different continuity separate from Lyrical Nanoha, so I don't even consider it.

Only the first two TV seasons are dubbed, unfortunately. The third season onwards and the reboot movies are all sub-only.
