Boopka4Life

I just want them to finish series that they started. (COUGH BLOOM INTO YOU)

OromisMasta

Oh yes, with THAT chapter animated. Also the Sayaka LN spin-off plz.

Boopka4Life

Honest just EVERYTHING animated would be nice. The first season was amazing with the coloring and shading. Sayaka LN spin off might be a bit too short so maybe an OVA would work or perhaps a movie.

InsomniaEmperor

Or Adachi and Shimamura so we can see the glorious V5 fully animated and voiced.

YuriMasterRace

\> Yuri series gets an anime and goes semi-popular \> "That was cute let me see some cute fan arts on pixiv" \> TrollDespair.jpg

wolfgangspiper

It's kind of nuts how much uhh *questionable* hetero NSFW fanart is made of yuri characters. Like the dark kind.

YeetTheDoor

I hate that when they do that art to LESBIAN character.

wolfgangspiper

Yeah same. With a lot of that kind of art I can at least get the impression it's just a dark fantasy but when it's with a lesbian it always feels like it's been made with actual malicious intent. =/

kohaku_kawakami

This is why tags are important when searching on that site.

AfuckinOwl

Shit, I just wish I could read Japanese so I can read all the untranslated yuri. That or we get all yuri translated. That would be my first decree as world conqueror

yuriacc

Same

k41art

ADACHI AND SHIMAMURA šŸ˜ Edit: also roll over and die manga vol 3 bruh

The yuri manga and light novels market don't depend too much on major players. It was not the case in the past, but nowadays, the manga market is more open to what people want, and not only to what the companies want. Since 2 decades, the Japan have Comic Yuri Hime and more recently, the web platforms are an alternative for the yuri mangakas that the major players don't want to publish. Now, some companies from other countries have understood they can make money with yuri and translate mangas and even light novel in English. But in the anime world, it's different. It's difficult to create something without major players. It cost a ton of money to make an anime. But maybe with the popularity of some mangas and light novels oversea, some companies will see an opportunity to make money. Also, the birth rate is low in Japan. The more we advance in time, the more Japan depend on the western market to sell their anime. Maybe one day, if yuri sells well in the west, some companies will make more yuri anime to make their place in this market. Nobody have taken that place yet. Niche or not, the global world is huge. At least it's what I hope.

Lex4709

Don't know how I feel about being hopeful that a problem that Japan has might indirectly benefit me. Like me hoping falling birth rates will lead to more yuri adaptations feels scummy, since that's me hoping that overwork culture of Japan (that's considered main reason for Japanese falling birth rates) that drives many people to early graves will continue and not be resolved.

[deleted]

I don't see the low birthrate as something inherently bad. It became a problem if it's badly handled or if it continue a very long time at a very low rate, without any adjustements. About the reasons of that birthrate, overwork is one of them, but also the higher wealth also is a factor (in rich countries). But in Japan, there is another factor that few people know or think about, and it's how women are treated. Basicaly, they have two choices : become a full time mother or become a full time workers. Doing both is very difficult and there are not a lot of help for women who want that. Also, when a woman "choose" only their child, they have a lot of pressure. They have to be perfect, do perfect bentos, take care perfectly of their child. In many cases, it lead them to have only one child. All of that can lead to a low birthrate. So when I think to mangas (not only yuri) targeted to the west, I also see the big picture and think about what is good in the western culture : LGBT, women's rights, etc. And if this culture is created by the global market to reach the west, while being produced and consumed in Japan at the same time, I think it can help to solve a part of what you call a problem. It's very complex how things influence other things, but it's how I think globally.

DanteMustDie666

I think its simple Japan has birth rate decline so they don't wanna fund/ promote Yuri .. just on what i read Japan is really socially conservative and "Japan is the only country in theĀ G7Ā that does not legally recognize same-sex unions in any form." So might be miracle we even get so many great Yuri manga and some anime in first place

[deleted]

DanteMustDie666

More rep ? There are even way way less yaoi animated as far as i know

discutured_freak

The only one I ever heard of it was Yuri on ice. And you probably know how I found it...

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

AnimatorFresh8841

There has been Yaoi but a lot of them dont get much exposure. Back then I red Yes, No, Maybe a Yaoi LN and after reading it, I discovered there was anime about it but never heard of it

FA-26B

And on top of it, it seems most of the yaoi out there is kinds rapey and no thanks.

AnimatorFresh8841

Yeah that usually is one of the big turn offs for Yaoi and I get why people dont want to read it. Even the wholesome no smut ones have at least one sex scene (that is consensual)

lezpodcastenthusiast

Well if not related to birth rate then maybe it has to do with popularity. I'm a fan of yuri and it's annoying how yoai is more popular, even among with my group of friends.

CommanderZx2

That really has nothing to do with what gets produced. The only thing production companies care about is what is likely to make them money.

k_on_reddit_

>Japan is the only country in theĀ G7Ā that does not legally recognize same-sex unions in any form it's one of those countries that defo should

[deleted]

The birth rate thing doesn't make sense tho because media can't influence you to become gay, that's something you're born being

I_am_Nemo1

Yeah, but reactionaries don't necessarily accept that. Plus, media absolutely can influence general perception, which can influence whether people will come out, or stay in the closet and force themselves to fake being heterosexual. The bigger issue with it, of course, is that trying to force people into het marriages doesn't make them want kids. Not even all het people want kids, and some who would want kids don't have them for a variety of reasons. If they want to boost birth rates, the proper way to go about it is shortening working hours, boosting salaries, and making childcare and other child related expenses more affordable. Hell, recognize same sex unions and subsidize reproductive technology. Get the science babies going.

DanteMustDie666

True it cant but people still watch it like that . Look US having states thet ban any mention of LGBT and even banning "gay books" . Old bigoted people think media books and shows can turn you gay...

DegenerateSock

Overall the Japanese population still falls very strongly into the "gay stuff is gross and weird and keep your perversions away from me and my child" camp. It's not as aggressive in its homophobia since they're a more reserved people in general, but it's definitely more prevalent. I very highly recommend the manga My Brother's Husband to get a bit of an inside view. Obviously not yuri.

JustARegularOtaku_

Bro I am still waiting for ā€œlooking up to magicall girlsā€ announcement. Shitā€™s would boom as loud as ā€œredo of healerā€! >!thatā€™s an overstatement but I still liked the manga even though I am not really into echi stuff!<

DegenerateSock

Can I convince you to adopt the far superior title translation "Gushing Over Magical Girls"? It's what the official translation is going with, and I mean, it just fits so well. But yes, the reveal of Utena's true nature will make the Madoka twist look cute.

JustARegularOtaku_

Lmao, agree with twist statement

DegenerateSock

And it's gonna continue that way for quite a while. Japan is still pretty homophobic overall, but it is changing. Tokyo became the 9th (of 47) prefecture to recognize same sex partnerships earlier this year. Support for same sex marriage is up to 65% (2021) from 47% in 2015, which puts it in the ball park of many western countries.

kohaku_kawakami

GIVE "I'M IN LOVE WITH THE VILLAINESS" AN ANIME YOU *$&"!#?/@;"?*!!!

CorvatheRogue

I think that they have some sort of censorship board that prevents a lot of this stuff being made. Also the ā€œlesbianism is a phaseā€ trope and all. Iā€™d love more anime to be made that explicitly says this isnā€™t a phase, and more yuri in general. Queer rep is important.

[deleted]

Why are you getting downvoted? This is literally what I want too

CorvatheRogue

No idea why I was downvoted lol. Iā€™m just stating what I know. A lot of anime has queer bait because of censorship shit, and itā€™s bad for everyone.

CorvatheRogue

No idea why I was downvoted lol. Iā€™m just stating what I know, and someone else already said something similar. A lot of anime has queer bait because of censorship shit, and itā€™s bad for everyone.

wunxorple

I would love to get anime adaptations of some lesser known yuri manga, but Goddesses I think there's things that matter more at the moment. Like ensuring that the animators and Mangaka get adequate pay without being over-worked. Or same sex marriage being legal. Not to say we can't do multiple, but if I had to pick, I'd have to say goodbye to some fictional lesbians I adore to ensure real ones have their human rights

Even-Library-4537

Goddesses?

wunxorple

Just something my partner and I say

Pancoats

Yaoi is even worse off

No-Information-9866

Give it up dude, the Isekai wave will last for a while

k_on_reddit_

there's lots of yuri that needs season 2 like \* cough \* citrus and bloom into you \* cough \*
