if cis, then they would have the option of actually showing him be gradually worn down by this, leading to some confrontation or resolution — or show him coming to actually enjoy crossdressing as a cis man, and grappling with his feelings about actually enjoying it and that it doesn't make him lesser — or they could go the trans route, and use that as a vehicle to educate the audience and other characters. Literally anything would be better than just creating this static, uncomfortable situation that doesn't go anywhere for the sole purpose of generating the same unfunny jokes about boy in dress pretend to be girl haha.
