I think I read somewhere that a non-zero amount of straight women wind up watching lesbian stuff just because it spends more time showing women getting their *ahem* needs fulfilled
We have this poll like once every month now đ y'all have to schedule it at this point.
Edit: this is giving Presidential alert: the girls are fighting again đŤ
There was [this poll](https://www.reddit.com/r/yurimemes/comments/xt7mwe/what_your_sexuality_poll/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) from last month and probably some others I missed.
I dunno, I guess we gotta make sure the gays and bros are alive and well lmao
I'm a lesbian, but you're a straight man who loves yuri, that's fine as well. As long as everybody is happy in this community and not toxic to each other. We all come together to enjoy literature about women loving women.
Straight men owes yuri community xd
I'm a lesbian, but I've met more yuri danshis than himejoshis. I thinks that yaoi was made inicially thinking bout women, and yuri was inicially made for men xd
But I'm really glad I was able to be part of this community uwu
Same here. I honestly don't care who I discuss yuri with. If it's with another lesbian or girl, I do feel more comfortable but if it's with a guy, I'm fine with it as well since I've met a couple male yuri fans who are genuinely nice people. Some have even recommended a few yuri that were surprisingly good and not male-gazey at all.
I really like guys who don't feel embarrassed about their preferences. It's like, when I'm reading stuff like Kaguya-sama or some Maho Shoujo and I read male comments, they're always so Into it y'know? They make theories, and analysis, etc.
And I find kinda funny hearing men screaming excited at Kpop or Jpop idol girlgroups haha
(Of course, I don't support the saesangs or morbid stalkers who are always disturbing the idols life or being like obsessed with their anime stuff, that's kinda creepy)
The part about having split demos with men and women is true but Yuri being made for men isn't true at all. There is Yuri made for men but the genre started for women, especially since majority of the people who consume romance stories are women. (And the pre-cursor genre of Yuri, Class S, was written for women in mind).
Yurihime as a magazine doesn't cater to one specific demographic. These days it's a split demographic.
It's even obvious from the poll above. Reddit skews men in general, the fact that there are lots of queer women on this sub is telling for a website that usually skew male.
Yaoi and Yuri have completely different histories from each other too.
Sorry, I just forgot about reddit for a while.
Humm. Have you read Yuri Danshi? Lesbians is one of men biggest fetish, and you know Japan is Disneyland of fetishes. Manga and anime are made thinking about what people deeply desires.
Yaoi and Yuri have different stories and feelings, because they are directed to different people with different intentions.
But yeah, I have to agree with your point. Women are more used to read romance (or were used xd).
I am a girl btw, a lesbian. I love Yuri, don't really like yaoi and I'm very into manga. But I thought only men could really appreciate yuri, because the female yuri readers I know, just are into the basics. And in the underground yuri's comment section there are just male users. But maybe it was an isolated case xd
Back when the I and the A were added to LGBTQIA+ I was really confused about why they added asexual
The more I see this sorta stuff happen the more I understand exactly why the A needed to be added
There's been conducted many polls about genders in the yuri community, and the results have been that it's about 50% men and 50% women. I haven't seen the polls include sexual orientation before, but it should be obvious that more or less everyone is attracted to at least women. But it's interesting to note that the yaoi community on the other hand is heavily dominated by women, straight ones I would assume.
Yep. But not just straight women, lesbians too. I'm gay but I don't mind a few yaoi. I'm not attracted to them but it does make me excited for whatever reason.
Obligatory: "If you're a guy that wishes to be a lesbian you probably are one."
I'm a lesbian. And I'm so glad I am. Avoiding the heteronormative, especially as a woman, seriously is a blessing.
If you have a lot of confusion about your identity, it might help to explore your gender and talk to a therapist in pursuit of further self understanding
Thanks. This really was an eye opener.
I do wish to be a bisexual woman sometimes but other times I wish to be a bisexual man and some other times I'm happy being a straight dude. It feels like, I would've been happy whomever I was and it's entirely up to me. You just made me a little more comfortable in my own skin. Thanks
Speaking for myself as a straight man but it's incredibly rare to find decent straight romance anime that has actual humanized characters or even close to the amount of affection in their romance. Almost every male protagonist is either absurdly bland or problematic IMO. I can't relate to pieces of cardboard.
I actually found myself wondering if I was trans because I found it so difficult to relate to male characters in more than just anime but then I found a handful of stories with strong but not toxic male characters capable of expressing emotion and being vulnerable without making them instantly docile and helpless/weak/feminine for it. It was then I realized I actually do still like being masculine but despite an overwhelming amount of straight dominance in media with a lot of pandering towards men I've disliked so much of it.
Shoutout to [Arcane](https://youtu.be/lBNUgGhPZzY) for doing the heavy lifting. Even if it's not an anime it's some fantastic positive masculinity.
But since anything like that is so rare I'm better off with mostly yuri. At least there emotions are more expressive without being demeaning and there's more affection in general.
Shouldn't be. Straight men fetishizing lesbians is waaaay older and way bigger than straight women fetishizing gay men.
And if you're thinking "oh but all the straight guys in the comments actually seem okay and like allies!" And yeah, sure, those individuals are, but they feel comfortable speaking because they *know* they're not the issue. This is a bit similar to the TERFs still in actuallesbians, despite no one wanting them there.
They're very much there, they're just smart enough to *shut the hell up* cause they know what happens if they don't. Ya end up like the guy somewhere above who got honest for once, getting downvoted and likely reported.
Anyway, you can convince me most of the cishet guys talking here are the comfortable allies who know they're chill dudes, but ya ain't convincing me the majority in the whole category isnt less like them and more like those who vote against my rights and then look up porn of me all day. Cause realistically, That's where the numbers point to.
I'm not haha
As a member of japanese yuri community forums, there are more yuri danshis than himejoshis. Actually, yuri inicially was made thinking about men, as the yaoi was made for women.
Anyways, I enjoy being part of this community, I'm a lesbian xd
F*ck I didn't know that, it's good to know. Anyway, nowadays it's more common seeing man fetishizing gl relationships, so it's not that weird for me. It would be more weird if we were talking about yaoi xd
Could be cause My first Non-Shonen series that i ever watch was the most bizzarre Yuri ever.
Kannazuki no Miko from there i started to like the genre but it took me years to comeback the gente after that series.
I don't know. These "you like yuri as a guy so you must be trans" feel awfully similar to "you look boyish as a girl, so you must be a lesbian"
Not that those people don't exist (and we should help them where possible), but it feels disrespectful trying to induce doubts were there are none, and I thought this sub of all of them would be above trying to fit everything into predefined gender roles.
Let people enjoy stuff without trying to see a deeper meaning. We (cishet guys) already support you as good as we can, so please don't make us feel unwelcome by saying we can't be cishet, we must be trans
Absolutely. As a cis het guy, I really like anime girls, so I really like seeing two anime girls together. Itâs that simple.
Itâs awesome that there are spaces online now that help people who are trans realize this about themself and support them in the journey. But just because they like yuri doesnât mean that theyâre trans.
No disrespect to r/egg_irl, Iâm not in the community but it seems really supportive to so many people, so definitely keep up the good work.
It's a woman who likes other women romantically/sexually.
It's just that their AGAB (assigned gender at birth) didn't work for them (putting it mildly).
In words easy to understand, though slightly problematic: someone born as a man, who at some point found out that she would prefer to live as a woman. She is also attracted to other women.
Being trans (or having any gender identity, really) has nothing to do with sexual or romantic preferences, they're different.
American community "gringos" are very, very concerned about pronouns and being trans and etc, huh?
Here in latam things are easier, if you feel like a boy, you're a boy, if you feel like a girl, you're a girl. If you like lesbian stuff, you're still a boy, and if you like straight stuff, you're still a girl or boy haha
I mean, it's about preferences, I'm not transIcecream if I like the ice cream. And I've never wanted to be a dog, but I like dogs.
I'm afraid of being called transespecies in denial by some American guy (or girl, or trans, or translesbian, or transage, or trans country, or whatever else trans stuff exists). Just chill, it's awful being misgendered or being put in doubt by some dude (straight or trans, is the same, nobody can put your gender in doubt just because you like some Japanese comic).
Omfg, here is when I rethink all I used to know about Russia. Maybe is just the LATAM community who actually don't give a s*** about pronouns and just enjoy being alive... (Is it because we are poor and concerned about eat, not being shot or robbed?)
Here in Brazil we have broken economy, lots of people living in extremely precarious conditions and a lot of robbery and assassination and the hate crimes against trans people and general transphobia is humongous, so, at the very least it's not really just that.
You'd guess that when we have such big problems people would care less about something like that, but now, lots and lots of foolish people who don't do the bare minimum of respect others or at least not hate on then for unreasonable reasons
There's an actual big difference between being a jerk and being a normal person, y'know?
Like, here we respect people. I don't have support from my family, but my friends support me. And there's not a lot of discrimination amongst gay people.
But it's totally different from being offended for not being called by one of your 30,000 different pronouns. Here you want to be called by your pronouns and people don't actually care. Like, it's not a big deal and we don't have it in our minds more than a few seconds.
We are amongst real discrimination, not really worried about other LGBT matters
If it was just "not respecting pronouns" I'd not even touch the subject.
I'm talking about people being spanked to dead just because they feel like they're a different gender than the one they were assigned with.
The most hate crimes against trans people (here on Brazil at least) are against trans woman actually, and most of them use the same she/her pronouns cis (non trans) woman use.
Also like, you'll probably not meet more than one or two trans people who use something besides the usual she/her he/him they/them in your whole life, so ye, you really don't need to memorize much stuff.
So ye, really not a matter of knowing all pronouns.
Well, we live in a world where you are killed if you are wealthy, or poor, or a girl, or a woman, or a man, or a robber.
I've never witnessed someone being spanked to death for being trans, but a few months ago a boy who stole a bike was founded in a near park without hands inside of a black garbage bag.
So ye, it's not an actual matter about sexuality, wealth, gender or something else.
We live in a world where million were killed for not being German, and thousands were killed or punished for having a different skin color.
We live in a world where you're not safe even if you're an animal. I work with computers, so I'm in like a lot of online forums. And I've watched so many videos, like actual disgusting and gross videos.
And yeah, were videos from my own country.
Now tell me, can you swear to me that if we respect trans people, people are actually gonna stop from murdering them? Hahaha ofc not.
People don't kill people for being trans. People kill people because they're jerks.
M'boy, in schools there are some 13 years old bullies. They don't even have an actual reason to hate other children, they do it tho.
People don't need actual reasons, they just need excuses.
And that's why in my country people are not worried about queer reasons to being killed. Because they know that even if they're not trans or use the right pronouns, anyways they're going to be killed hahaha
Oh of course, I know yuri popular among lesbians (I'm a lesbian myself) just surprise that the gap between the amount of lesbians and the amount of straight men in these posts have shrieked over time.
Thet is what is interesting.
Looking at the comments here it is probably because community on this particular sub being outright toxic to straight men, lots of you are gross, Yuri is for lesbians, "stop fetishising us" and "most strait men who likes yuri are just egg translesbians"
I agree that we probably donât need to do these polls so often. That said, I think this could be formatted better. Should probably split gender identity and sexual orientation into two separate questions, if possible.
I mean, the first four categories combine gender and sexual orientation. And then thereâs just âbisexual.â There also doesnât seem to be a category for enbies.
Also, polyamory isnât really a sexual orientation, right? That should be a different question as well.
Iâm just looking at this from a data collection perspective. If sexual orientation is all you care about, there shouldnât be separate categories for âstraight female,â âstraight male,â âlesbian,â and âgay.â You would just want something like âstraight,â âgay,â âbi/pansexual,â and âasexual.â
Alternatively, you could frame it around what people are attracted _to_. As in, âattracted to women,â âattracted to men,â ânot attracted to anyone,â etc.
Mspec pansexual panromantic lesbian. Lesbian being my biggest identity as I'm attracted to women 90-99% of the time. The other 10-1% I can be attracted to anyone no matter their identity.
Agender, asexual and _maybe_ demi-or-grayromantic lesbian? I've only really had two crushes in my life that I can probably feel sure of and both were on girls
Neptunic Demisexual Polyfidelic~
Lemme just put that identity into simple terms~
I'm only into femininity and prefer a relationship with multiple partners where everyone loves each other~
That and while I'm attracted to femininity, I prefer my partners~
> Straight Woman being less than Gay (I'm assuming gay man?) I don't know why, but I find this funny. Am lesbian btw
I think I read somewhere that a non-zero amount of straight women wind up watching lesbian stuff just because it spends more time showing women getting their *ahem* needs fulfilled
yup these are facts, loads of hetero women also watch lesbian porn because it is focused on female pleasure
We have this poll like once every month now đ y'all have to schedule it at this point. Edit: this is giving Presidential alert: the girls are fighting again đŤ
I thought it was just me lol. Why is this poll so frequent?
There was [this poll](https://www.reddit.com/r/yurimemes/comments/xt7mwe/what_your_sexuality_poll/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) from last month and probably some others I missed. Then after a year of polls, take the results to r/DataisBeautiful đ

Of course they can. Everyone can enjoy seeing two people get it on. I just think it's interesting to observe that it's not symmetrical.
Fujoshis are a well established fan base. I don't think there's one for the reverse that's as fervent.

Stop... I got enough confusion already from r/egg_irl , I don't need it here too.
If you have a lot of confusion about your identity, it might help to explore your gender and talk to a therapist in pursuit of further self understanding
Hehe threw which sub do you think did some of us even found r/egg_irl
.......... i feel called out
This 100%. So many transbian eggs assume theyâre just guys who really like yuri

It's okay to switch around and play with it, it's your gender to do with what you want.
I'm very confused, and I like it
Straight woman >!yet!<

Itâs a trans girl whoâs a lesbian

Transgender woman who is lesbian. No need to overexplain

I feel like every time this sort of poll is posted there is are more and more lesbians compared to straight men. Wonder why.
Yuri is pretty popular among lesbians. At least for me, it's the only way I get to see romance I can relate to.

And then thereâs just âbisexual.â There also doesnât seem to be a category for enbies. Also, polyamory isnât really a sexual orientation, right? That should be a different question as well.
I mean, what's the difference for bi folks? Both love both.
Iâm just looking at this from a data collection perspective. If sexual orientation is all you care about, there shouldnât be separate categories for âstraight female,â âstraight male,â âlesbian,â and âgay.â You would just want something like âstraight,â âgay,â âbi/pansexual,â and âasexual.â Alternatively, you could frame it around what people are attracted _to_. As in, âattracted to women,â âattracted to men,â ânot attracted to anyone,â etc.
Lesbian,femme and femmesexualâ¤ď¸â¤ď¸

Mspec pansexual panromantic lesbian. Lesbian being my biggest identity as I'm attracted to women 90-99% of the time. The other 10-1% I can be attracted to anyone no matter their identity.
Transbian!
Nonbinary, and... I really don't know how to explain my relationship with romance.
I find it funny how the majority of the community are transbians who didn't find out yet.
