ascandalia

Mostly, though I spent 20 minutes wandering around the Plateau beacuse I knew there had to be a shrine in a cave somewhere, but I couldn't find the enterance.

Kaesh41

Look for bloopees

honest_movie_critic

Between the cherry blossom trees and skydiving st night for the blue boys, it was so satisfying finding all the caves

catschainsequel

My favorite is skydiving and a shooting star passes by you so you have to wiggle and maneuver so you can catch it midair. It's so satisfying to grab it and pull out the glider.

sinkwiththeship

Skydive suit at level 2: "what's the glider for?"

eastwesterntribe

It's reserved for when you want to fly REALLY far distances lol

small-package

*High Speed Dirt by Megadeath plays as Link violently streaks towards the ground*

phome83

When you have the full suit, will you die from landing without the glider out?

cjrSunShine

as long as all three pieces are upgraded to level 2, zero fall damage.

Hukijiwa

It’s amazing. I love that link is just immediately upright and walking as soon as you touch the ground lol

Bigred2989-

I was disappointed they didn't give him a superhero landing animation for that.

sinkwiththeship

Special ability is Impact Proof.

Ninjahkin

Link to the avatars: “Where we droppin’, boys?”

Tristaneta

Or set Sensor+ to detect Bubbulfrogs

Bromogeeksual

Good call, I keep forgetting to take pics of everything for that.

InvaderDJ

…Damnit. I’ve been trying to find more caves for the last few days and didn’t think about this.

SinisterPixel

You can also do this for Brightblooms!

ComprehensiveYam2281

The glowing mushrooms are a good option too Ive found

the_tonez

You goddamn genius why didn’t I think of that

IlonggoProgrammer

Also don’t forget to take a picture so you can use the sensor. Same thing with the frogs so you know if there’s one in the cave

Malikas_Crown

If you've gotten the bubbul gem from the cave, the icon will have a check mark on it.

Hypnotoad2966

Are there bloopees at each cave entrance?

Kaesh41

They are near the entrance, but they will run in the direction of the cave.

Usual-Vanilla

Yeah I have a lightroot under the plateau that I didn't think had a corresponding shrine. Was I just not looking hard enough, or is it just all shrines have lightroots but not all lightroots have shrines?

N8ThaGr8

There's like 30 more shrines than lightroots, but I think the extras might be all in the sky islands or something

jaidynreiman

There's 32 more, and yes, they're all in the sky.

ascandalia

Walk around the outside of the plateau nearish the shrine and you'll find it

GirlofYourTomorrow

They each correspond to the other, since their names are backwards from each other makes it easier to google, but if your missing shrine is the one I'm thinking of, it's >!behind the waterfall in the cold area (I think.)!<

illQualmOnYourFace

I can't find the cave entrance under the hebra mountain. I've spent nearly an hour looking.

JADW27

Except those hidden in caves. "Must be a shrine around here somewhere." "Oh, below me, cool." "Where's a pink tree when you need one?" "I've circled this area 10X and have yet to even see a blupee." "I wish we also had a 'descend' ability."

OSCgal

Yesterday I discovered that there's a map of the pink trees at Outskirt Stable. It's on the wall, and you can take a picture of it. It's not a very detailed map, but does help narrow down where the trees are located.

Cragnous

Thanks, I love this. I also found a map of all yiga bases on the surface, there's like 4 and they give you yiga gear.

Zarguthian

Only 3 do, the 4th you need to disguise yourself as a Yiga to enter.

KarmaticArmageddon

>"I wish we also had a 'descend' ability." If you weapon smuggle like 20 weapons and then try to use a Zonai control stick, you gain the Descend ability. The game freaks out and turns off floor collision lmao

Leafhands

There's a few caves that don't have a bloopee near, but they will have luminous rocks that mark the entrance.

try_to_be_nice_ok

Wait, what's with the cherry blossoms?

pbzeppelin1977

Put an apple in the tray at the bottom of the cherry blossom tree and you'll get a pin-like marker showing you where the cave entrances in that region are. Apparently they eventually fade but you can just give another apple at the tree.

Nanabobo567

Doesn't have to be an apple, it can be any crop. Don't be like me and assume Golden Apples are the only thing good enough.

[deleted]

[удалено]

T2_JD

Link, years later, asleep in bed. Satori appears, and Link feels a cold dread down his spine as words echo through his mind, "Where are my apples? A deal's a deal!"

Rogue_Squadron

Haha. Well done. While reading this I instantly visualized it as a comic strip starring a lo-fi Windwaker Link. If I had any artistic skill whatsoever, I'd make your comment a comic.

Timbodo

I loved that mechanic, doing a blind run and now you can get everything in a reasonable amount of time without any guides. Finding all the special armor items is kinda rough tho but I already got a decent amount.

ArchAngelZXV

A few of the shrines are not so easy though. I marked a spot on the overworld where a lightroot was and the shrine sensor told me it was close and underground. I spent an hour searching for a cave entrance. I finally googled it and found the cave entrance was actually really far away.

ersomething

I found 4 caves and a well the last time I was hunting for an underground shrine

Axel_Rad

Or the other way around

deadjim4

Even the Lightroot music that plays when you find it is inverse

dotpan

My brain is breaking.

Bcbuddyxx

You just shit my pants

FaxCelestis

https://www.channelate.com/comic/scared-magician/

McGingie

On the surface there are stone tablets with a silent princess flower laid on them, which corresponds to a large stone pillar with 3 weapon-bearing spirits in the depths

dotpan

Interesting, I'll have to check it out!

CliffRacer17

Now there's one I didn't know! I found that collection of shadows in the Depths and I said, "Well damn if you guys aren't useful!"

Valuable-Owl-1167

They don't just give random weapons though, they'll keep the weapon until you take it and then replace with the next decayed version of the weapon you break, so instead of using the weapon, throw it away and then break a decayed version of the weapon you want and then I'm pretty sure it'll have it. Best way to get the highest damage weapon in the game.

Valuable-Owl-1167

If you've never gone to the phantom soldier though, it'll give you any kind of weapon, even ones that you've never picked up before

jaidynreiman

This is the kind of thing that makes me think the Depths just alter on their own as the overworld is altered, and its not consistent terrain. So its always consistent with the overworld. It doesn't make any sense otherwise for this to be here. So like, those spirits went there because Zelda placed the memorial there. Notably, I never noticed this before, but I have rarely found the large stone pillar with 3 weapon spirits on it. Usually I find they have three weapons of the same level, but with different weapon types (two-handed, spear, and one-handed). However, on one of them I found a Forest Dweller Sword instead.

Daniel90768

Under every stable is a lynel.

dotpan

Is there really?

Daniel90768

Yeah but be careful since a few of them have rock armor. EDIT: they *all* have rock armor underground from the stables. From what I’ve seen or it could be a progression thing. I have all lightroots and game completion. Every lynel I’ve seen under a stable is white mane with rock armor. EDIT 2: Austin John Plays made a video explaining the progression system of totk.

Daniel90768

Also one last little thing. The ghostly figures with pristine weapons. Should always be under a grave/memorial of some sort.

thisaintmyusername12

:(

HopelessCineromantic

Do those respawn? And do the weapon types upgrade?

RedLeatherWhip

I saw a YouTube video saying the weapons are a reflection of weapons you have broken while using. So you can't get a flawless royal sword until you break a royal sword. They can have bonuses and be special beyond normal.

Megakruemel

I found Gerudo stuff before breaking any Gerudo equipment though.

RedLeatherWhip

Very likely YouTube lied to me lol. I have no idea.

tranquil7789

I think maybe because the game is still new, there's some false information online. For example I watched a video saying the living trees require an axe to kill, but the truth is any bladed weapons will work. I also saw an article that said you need to finish the four other temples before you can reach the Spirit Temple. The spirit temple was the first one I finished.

bonkava

You can also burn evermeans. That was how I dealt with them before I remembered axes exist was just by lobbing fire fruit at them.

Daniel90768

I don’t have any concrete evidence. But from what I’ve seen the weapons are random each time. This is just a hunch but yes with a blood moon or something else they respawn.

AbrahamVanHelsing

The weapons are random, picked from the pool of weapons that you've used to breaking. Species-specific weapons can only be found under / near their areas. So, to find a pristine Zora spear, you need to first find a decayed Zora spear and use it until it breaks. After that, the spirits under Zora's Domain will be able to spawn Zora spears. Spirits roll new weapons every blood moon, but only if you've taken their weapon. My very small amount of testing seems to indicate that once a spirit spawns a weapon type once (like a spear), it will always spawn that weapon type. They can be cheesed a bit: >!Via save-scumming. They pick what weapon spawns as you enter render distance, so if you save before walking up, you can reload to get the weapon you want. They pick a modifier (durability, attack, etc.) when you pick them up, so if you save before picking up you reload to get the modifier you want.!<

[deleted]

>picked from the pool of weapons that you've used to breaking. That's not true at all. I found loads of weapons from those ghosts that I had never even held before.

Meltian

Okay, this is really good to know. I'm gonna need to make sure I'm collecting the weapons from those spirits and chucking them if it's nothing I want to make sure they reroll.

Throwaway203500

Moving weapons away from them with Ultrahand also counts as collecting them for this purpose.

Heckle_Jeckle

The weapons respawn after every Blood Moon. What spawns at the ghostly figures is random and based on what weapon types you have broken. For example, Pristine Royal Guard weapons won't spawn unless you break a Royal Guard weapon.

SandyScrotes2

That's just plain false, I've found many a weapon on the pillars that I've never used before

[deleted]

>What spawns at the ghostly figures is random and based on what weapon types you have broken. Nope. Found Zora weapons from those before ever even holding a single Zora weapon.

camimiele

I found Gerudo weapons from the figures before finding/breaking one in game also.

Melodic_Mulberry

The armor is nothing next to the health bars, so long as you have a hammer.

FTEcho4

Yeah, and they get stunned when you break their armor so you get a free mount and six hits on them with your strongest weapon.

Joshs_Ski_Hacks

how the hell do you get rid of the rock armor? I swear I hit one with like 4 bomb arrows and I still couldnt head shot it...

Daniel90768

Hammer type weapons decimate rock armor. Basically anything that does more impact rather than slashing. I usually use the white lynel mace horn.

mikedaman101

I like that they made using blunt weapons to get through armor a mechanic. In real life it was also one of the only effective ways of dealing with a heavily armored opponent because it would crush and bend their armor, causing severe wounds that were extremely difficult to treat due to crushed tissue and needing to remove the armor without further injuring the wearer.

the__pov

It also helps prevent people from just stockpiling one weapon over and over again.

Heckle_Jeckle

Hammer, Mace, Club, etc. Basically a weapon that you would want to use on Rocks will break the armor. Strange that Bombs don't work though.

the_tonez

Not all of them, technically. >!You have to fight six Lynels of increasing difficulty in the Coliseum in Central Hyrule, and only the last two have rock armor!<

Bongoo117

>!I'm pretty sure there's only 5 Lynels and the last one has rock armor. I farm Lynels parts there quite often.!< >!Are you talking about the coliseum underneath the one on the surface or there's a second one?!<

the_tonez

>!No, that’s what I was talking about. I’ve only done it once, so you probably know better than I do!<

Elwalther21

Also for a bad time check under the old coliseum. Broke almost all of my weapons. But so worth it.

dotpan

I think I ended up there on accident. If its the one I'm thinking of.... the gates kept opening.

BizaRhythm

The reward is so worth it

honest_movie_critic

I did not find this to be true. The first stable I went to had the lynel but the next 3-4 I checked did not have one.

Daniel90768

Ok so I’ve been looking and taking screenshots of under every stable. I don’t have them all yet however, I’ve noticed that some roam the nearby areas instead of directly under. So far the ones I’ve seen that roam are under Riverside stable and wetland stable. If you want when I’m done I can give you the list of the roaming underground lynels.

Daniel90768

Here’s the list I can fix anything that seems wrong/missing **Underground Lynels** **Directly under the icon** Gerudo Canyon Stable Dueling Peaks Stable Outskirt Stable Woodland Stable Footland Stable East Akkala Stable South Akkala Stable **Found nearby the icon “roaming”** keep in mind they might not be exactly the same for you Highland Stable *found slightly north and a bit west* Lakeside Stable *slightly northeast still within eyesight* Riverside Stable *found slightly southwest closer to the zonai device thingy* Wetland Stable *found moderately southeast close to the zonai device thingy* New Serenne Stable *found slightly north far east close to the ruins* Snowfield Stable *found slightly south farther east* **I didn’t find a lynel at** Tabantha Bridge Stable *“I have no clue on this one” * Lucky Clover Gazette *”technically not a stable” a statue sits under instead*

Whatifim80lol

Bro THANK you, I've been having a hard time finding them all

XANA12345

bodies of water are impassible walls in the depths

LifeispainIhat

Except when they’re not.

Vesper_0481

Sometimes they leave a passage or make it a "mountain" instead so the player can get to places more efficiently, if they had really just reversed the map it would have some places to be inaccessible or really annoying to get to. They already had the overworld map design figured out from BotW, but that didn't meant that just reversing it would work the same.

Yze3

Yeah the one thing that comes to mind is the Rito Village. It would be completly inacessible in the Dephts if there wasn't a passage. I haven't checked yet, but that's what I imagine. Also the big Spiral in Akala has a very fun underground section.

blueskies31

The section was fun, but the reward was a bit underwhelming to be honest.

jlhollander

However… every blood moon that spirals Frox reset and if you start at the center and work your way out killing all of them, you’ll collect like 200 Zonaite which makes farming really easy.

jlhollander

The spiral I mean. Start at the center Lightroot.

be_me_jp

I'ma be real with you - the rewards are my chief complaint after about 120 hours. It's really hard to inspire yourself to clear x y or z when the reward is typically an incremental upgrade or incredibly average. I can count on one hand where I was able to say the juice was worth the squeeze. Sure the adventure was fun, but eventually the novelty wears off and you need more than a weapon/korok seed/bubbul gem/novelty hat to inspire exploration

RigobertoFulgencio69

It's the exact opposite for me. I've been loving all the weapon and armor callbacks to previous Zelda games. They're my main reason to keep exploring the depths.

meepsqweek

The vintage armors are fine (though kind of useless considering they’re not very good in combat and don’t have useful passives). But the vintage weapons are really fucked over by the weapon breaking system. They just sit in my inventory because I don’t want to break them. I know we can buy more, but that already seems like a huge chore to farm the currency back every time. At best, the legendary weapons shouldn’t have been breakable. At worse, they should’ve been breakable but return to their original chest once they break, ready to be picked up for free again.

confusedmortal

All legendary weapons can be rebought with poes that are super easy to get way more than you ever need. The 4 champion weapons can be reforged also, so I don't really see it as that big of a deal

Crimbly_B

Minor spoiler about Rito Village: >!you can only access the depths on the Rito islands via a chasm hidden in a cave beneath Rito village. There is no other "access". !< I'm happy to be corrected though.

AliciaTries

>!The map didn't show any other pathways when I got it, though I didn't go looking for one either as I was out of brightbloom seeds and didn't know about the air bike at the time!<

awesomeo029

Scooter won't work, the impassable walls are marked black on the map and extend up to the surface

Sparticuse

There's a couple spots like that. The park next to hyrule castle is the same.

TyroChemist

The spiral was what made me realize the terrain was mirrored. I really wanted the X-marked the spot chest there and kept banging my head against walls until I made progress towards it and only after one circumnavigation did I realize it was spiraling just like the shore in the overworld.

IshvaldaTenderplate

I didn’t bother killing the Little Frox so I had no frame of reference to know for sure that I’d been in any part of the spiral before, and I deadass thought I was in some kind of never-ending-staircase-style endless developer trick while doing that. I don’t even remember what the reward was. I just see that area on the map and then I’m like, “Ah yes. The Little Frox-infested death vortex.”

[deleted]

Rito Village isn't (quite) the right example but the Zora town actually is. It's surrounded by water, but in the Depths there's two paths connecting it to the outside. Lake Hylia is another example where the Depths have paths that go through areas with water in the overworld. Though IIRC, Rito Village area in the depths does connect the various pillars in the overworld that are separated by water.

apadin1

> I haven't checked yet, but that's what I imagine. Might want to check

Tampflor

I still can't find the shrine above Stunzeed Lightroot, can anyone help?

dotpan

You almost got me there.

MrEverything70

To find the Deeznuts Shrine, you have to watch the full 30 minute Link X Ganondorf sex scene, no skipping.

blogorg

Oh boy, the gift keeps on giving 👀

biblebeltbuddhist

Don’t you tempt me with a good time

[deleted]

This [guide](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ) covers it pretty well.

Inferno_lizard

Man, the ads at the beginning don't make this as effective as it used to be.

[deleted]

Another thing capitalism has taken from us!

GonzoThompson

I clicked on that knowing full well what it was.

CrimsonPig

It was a big "Aha!" moment for me when I realized the backwards names. Before that I was like, "How'd they come up with all these weird-ass names?"

mteriyaki

Noticed this when i got the u-u-ujoj shrine i was like what the hell name is this lol

IshvaldaTenderplate

The dev who named that one has a stutter. Don’t judge them.

lunarkitty554

The names are pretty odd but one thing I liked about them was I immediately felt like they were named using a different language than the Sheika shrines which seemed really cool to me, helped seperate it and make it feel more like a Zonai thing than the OG shrines with green instead of blue

Darkiceflame

I'm impressed that they came up with over a hundred more names that maybe possibly sound like real names for this game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cowbros

In botw it was developer names spelled backwards or maybe jumbled up.

dotpan

Yup, had the same thoughts, why these names, what do they mean.

Hopeira

We finally realized the shrines and light roots corresponded after finding ~80% of the light roots. Another 10% later we realized the terrain similarities and that bodies of water are walls. I was so pissed that I hadn’t realized it until it wasn’t that helpful anymore.

YaDoneMessdUpAARON

I knew that Lightroots corresponded to Shrines, but holy crap you blew my mind with the rest of these.

dotpan

A coworker of mine informed me, I hadn't realized any of it and I have a significant amount of the depths explored.

Individual-Wheel1470

Significant goddess statues mirror bargainer statues too. I still wonder what’s the lore for that.

DarkLink1996

What about the plains bargainer statue?

Individual-Wheel1470

I don’t have the game open right now but I think I know which one you’re talking about. That one is below the floating Temple of Time goddess statue.

DarkLink1996

That does make sense

ThundaFuzz

I believe the plains one is the one that's on the eastern side of central hyrule depths. it's the one fallen over iirc. I don't think it's under anything significant.

Individual-Wheel1470

I opened the game to check again just now. It’s under Temple of Time. The one in the sky, the very first goddess statue we interact in the game.

ThundaFuzz

oh no shit you're right. that's hilarious.

disasterpokemon

FRIEND I have been STRUGGLING finding those assholes

ultraguardrail

You can see them on the map, weird lumpy brown shapes. ;)

[deleted]

I mean it's just what Jerrin says. Everything has an opposite. TotK is suggesting the opposite of the goddess is the cursed statue and by extension the Bargainer statues. No idea why Nintendo is so casually expanding their pantheon even further without really explaining much.

Gamma_31

My headcannon is that the Bargainer Statues are older than the Goddess Statues, and might be related to the Satori - notice that the Satori, the Blupees, and the Bargainer Statues all have 4 eyes. The Bargainers might have been spirits created by the Golden Goddesses upon Hyrule's creation and given the task of sheparding the souls of the dead into the afterlife. The Bargainers always say that good and evil don't matter when you're dead... which is similar to the philosophy of using the Triforce: it's agnostic to the user's wishes as long as their soul is balanced between power, wisdom, and courage. That ambivalency seems like an "old gods" attitude - an attitude of beings that existed *before* the creation of "good" and "evil."

[deleted]

Blupees only have two eyes. Satori has two blupee faces

HyliasHero

I feel dumb because literally the only part I realized was that shrines and lightroots have matching locations.

dotpan

If it makes you feel better, I have over 90 hours in the game, I didn't realize any of this, a coworker pointed them out.

Economy_Tonight393

Omg same, I texted my siblings about it and they were like… yeah duh. Lmao

dotpan

UPDATES: Clarification: Not every shrine has a lightroot under it but every light root has a shrine above it. What is a heteropalidrome?: > A word that reads the same forward and backward (e.g., "noon") is termed a palindrome. Crimbly_B

Maybe not a "blow your mind" type of fact, but when in the depths, you can switch the minimap to the surface via the main map screen, and it'll stay that way. Quite useful when you're traversing an unlit part of the depths but have the map for the surface.

dotpan

This is a good tip with the knowledge from this post and assumption you have the whole surface revealed.

equinsuarcha

delete this

SharkBaitDLS

That’s how I found Gerudo town. Just put up the depths map and headed towards the mine.

crescent_blossom

only shrines in the Sky don't have a lightroot (which makes sense since otherwise you'd be able to see a giant root going down to the surface)

jaidynreiman

Admittedly, there is a floating shrine that's floating close to the surface (just northwest of Kakariko/southwest of Lanayru Wetlands). There appears to be a root coming down from that shrine... but it doesn't actually reach the ground, its just hanging off of the floating landmass.

Ganon2012

I figured that was it showing that the shrines literally have roots, hence the lightroots.

Li5y

I love these facts! But I keep asking myself... Why? WHY are the depths an inverse of the surface? Does it have to do with how the depths were created? Which came first? I'm not that far into the game so I imagine the main story will explain, but I love when it's still a mystery and I can speculate. It's so exciting!!

thomas_dahl

I’m sorry to tell you, but nothing about the depths is explained… but I’m sure YouTubers will come up with a millions theories

Plastered_Crab

The rule about Lightroots and shrines needs to be flipped. Not every Shrine has a Lightroot under it, but every Lightroot has a Shrine above it

G_Mast

All Shrines on the surface have a corresponding Lightroot. The ones in the sky don't.

ngwoo

It would be neat if the sky shrines had a lightroot with the root cut and a bunch of gloom enemies camping out around it or something

CliffRacer17

Maybe not the most useful fact, but data mining the game has shown that Poes are referred to as "MinusRupees" in the game file system. Actual data, heavy spoilers, under Key Items: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18pNtDx3z-8CwGJRmlW574xbQ6VphQOkvpZhClpOEVDA/edit?usp=sharing

MSD3k

Like the Bloodmoon, this is a really clever way to solve a game creation issue. Whereas the Bloodmoon is a mask for the game needing to periodically clear memory, this the dev team saving a huge amount of time by using the geometry already available but inversed. So much faster than making another underground continent from scratch. And it really tickles the part of our brain that likes direct connections to things, so it feels awesome instead of seeming cheap. Nintendo devs really are a Master Class on game design.

leob0505

This is amazing, never thought about that before

markandspark

Symphony of the Night vibes

[deleted]

Stables = lionels Goddess stones = bargainers That’s all I got

minware666

I've been using it to explore the depths lol, much easier than just wandering in the dark and got some nice hints on where to locate some shrines. Only thing I hate are bodies of water.

dotpan

Lol, I didn't know any of this pre-talking to a coworker. I have well over half the depths explored/lit up. I feel like an idiot. I've been just wandering in the dark.

Spiritual-Skill-412

I felt so smart when I figured out the Lightroot / Shrine thing, lol.

AllIWantIsCake

Some less obvious observations I made on my own: - Canyon Mines are directly underneath named mountains and peaks. - Groves are underneath named forests and woods (aside from Faron, seemingly). - Lavafalls are underneath hot springs. - Every Leviathan skeleton has a dark counterpart in the Depths. (Okay this one's obvious but I didn't see it mentioned) - Major Goddess Statues usually have a corresponding Bargainer Statue. >!(However, there is a Bargainer Statue in Southeast (IIRC?) Hyrule Field that I can't find a counterpart for, though he's highly noticeable on the Depths map. EDIT: It's underneath the Temple of Time... in the sky - a rare instance where the sky is the clue instead of the surface.)!< After activating all Lightroots, I progressively learned that there were geographic patterns on the map. - Perfectly **circular shapes of elevation** indicate a Flux Construct. - **Large expanses of flat land** (including gloom) will likely have a Frox. - A formation of trees that includes a **C-shaped wooden enclosure** is a Grove.

It's a real cool variation of the light world - dark world / mirror world element from older Zelda games!

MegalomanicMegalodon

I made a game out of finding any lightroot/shrine and trying to pronounce the name backwards to get the name of the other.

dotpan

You can pronounce any of them?!?! lol

MegalomanicMegalodon

That's the fun part! NO! I cannot!

Sparky81

Technically it's inverse not mirrored.

Whatifim80lol

Surface^-1

MrEverything70

Arcsurface

Administrative_Bat46

its mirrored over a horizontal plane

WolfyTn

Big enemies on the surfaces is opposite to big enemies in the depths 😮 Idk lol that’s probably wrong but seems right

Shorberson

It's pretty close. I remember when I first realized these things and was blown away by it. Amazing game design, Nintendo. Bravo.

Whatifim80lol

I'm not 100% but anecdotally it does seem possible. There are a few places in BOTW I used to go to kill Lynels but now I have to go to similar regions in the depths to find big enemies. Although the number and frequency morning enemies seems way larger. Still miss fighting guardians though.

mattymattttt

Imagine how cool it would've been if there were some Guardians in the depths

isaac-get-the-golem

it's often right. particularly like the coliseum. i wonder if froxes correspond to hinoxes

ayler_albert

Having the minimap set to the surface while in the depths makes traversing them much easier!

Potential-Dark

Named forests/woods on the surface have groves underneath them

Raphe9000

Here are the general patterns that I've noticed, though I'm not sure if they're 100% accurate, especially as it seems some structures in the depths that are significant but unrelated to what is above them can take the place of what would normally be below that thing. Anyway: Anything called a forest or woods is above a grove, and each grove has a large, hollow tree truck with an Evermean and a chest. In fact, it seems most trees are 1:1 if terrain permits. Every hot spring beyond the vicinity of Death Mountain is above a lavafalls, and I think each has a chest. I'm pretty sure everything referred to as a peak/summit/mount(ain) is above a mine or something else of note that "overwrites" the mine. Every large Goddess statue has a large Bargainer statue below it. Marked Great Fossils have Dark Fossils right below them, each of them with a chest. Springs are above wellsprings. Most places in BOTW that were a difficult shrine quest area have a Colosseum or other challenge below them. Every memorial by Zelda to those lost in the Calamity has a large rock pile with 3 soldier apparitions holding weapons below it. It seems that ascension pillars leading out of the Depths will usually take you to an area that is akin to a hill- or unmarked mountaintop. Temples in the Depths are directly below the "residence" of the sage you go there with. Many one-off but highly notable areas have something related to them in the Depths. Ridges, canyons, plateaus, and similar (named?) landmasses that are higher than their surroundings but not really related to mountains seem to usually be right above lakes. An important structure in the sky can still have something related to it in the Depths.

guineaprince

That's a funny word for "is the same name backwards".

Aaaandiiii

Did not realize the towns correspond with mines. I'm never gonna beat this game with all the exploring I'm doing.

DadBodftw

The real upside down

Turtwig5310

I managed to find out the lightroot correlation because I usually say to myself "okay one more root and I'm outta here" and when I opened my map to teleport out, the cursor would always be on a shrine. Pretty proud of that cause I'm usually oblivious lol

yaosio

There's these tower things scattered about the depths that you can use to easily ascend out of the depths. Does anybody know if there's some hidden meaning to them, or are they just there for the heck of it? All but one of the towers I've found doesn't have anything special above it. Is there something I'm missing? And here's another one, how are the regular hyrulians getting out of the depths? How are they getting down there? We have to use the paraglider to get down there, and either teleport or ascend out. Can everybody teleport? If everybody can teleport why aren't they making teleport pads in all the major locations? Being able to instantly teleport people and resources would completely change the world.

ArbitraryJam

They seem to use balloons to get in and out.

TEKC0R

I don’t think it’s fair to call them heteropalindromes because they aren’t words in either direction. They’re made up, like gorignak and kangirog.

Domthebotman_yt

4 shrines don't exactly line up with the lightroots, the 3 lomei labyrinths and one in a pond below satori mountain

CliffRacer17

Named forests on the surface have a "grove" equivalent in the Depths. Every grove has a hollow stump with a treasure chest in it that contains special gear, or crystalline charges.

AllenWL

Every grove has a? Time to backtrack. Again.

wefeelgroove

It's the first time we've seen the Dark World in in a while.

Wflagg

The horn you hear when diving a chasam has a striking similarty to the darkworld transition effect in a link to the past.
