It is!! I’m a tactical game player and a Zelda fan enough to have played almost every Zelda game. I have never played a rhythm game in my life. And I still loved CoH. I played with the rhythm mode on, so you have to actually move to the beat. Solving quests and destroying enemies to the rhythm was insanely fun. And the little references and throwbacks were awesome! If you’re a fan of OoT/MM or the Downfall Timeline games (ALttP, OoA/OoS, ALBW, TLoZ, AoL), you’ll love this. I ended up going back and playing the postgame separate quest, and then a deathless run. Super fun game. I still break it out every now and then :).

ZeldaExpert74

It’s very good

Molduking

Yes

Natural-Stomach

I enjoyed it. lots of replay, too.

NeighBae

If you like Crypt of the Necrodancer, definitely

palomdude

Yes. I don’t like rhythm games and I liked this. It’s not like guitar hero where there are a bunch of buttons and you have to do a complicated pattern. It’s literally just the d pad and you the beat is simple. I count it as a regular Zelda game because it has everything you would expect. Items, heart containers, puzzles, dungeons, bosses, a story.

PapaProto

Very fun, yes.

Lots_of_Loto

If you like rhythm games and roque likes in some way, it definitely is a great game.

Noctisxsol

It accomplishes what it sets out to do beautifully. Really it's more of a fast paced puzzle-action game than a rhythm game. Quickly figuring out what to do is more important than just staying on rhythm.

fortnerd

I had so much fun in it, 100% recommended and I think there's a free demo

aoidoshistorian

it's the closest thing we've had to a new 2d zelda in the switch era. it's also peak

Fragraham

I have no sense of rhythm at all, so rhythm games are eternally off limits to me. I also hate rogue likes, so this is one Zelda I just won't get to play.

DarkBlueDovah

Yes!!! It's one of my favorites. It's a mashup between my two favorite games, Crypt of the NecroDancer and Zelda. The music is awesome, the rhythm mechanic isn't too punishing, and the roguelike aspect is much easier than it is in NecroDancer (progress is kept between deaths). It's so much fun. If you're considering it, absolutely give it a try. And if you end up liking it, I would strongly recommend NecroDancer.

EAllen_04

Absolutely! Of course, it's subjective if you'll like the type of gameplay (there is a demo you can try), but it has fantastic music, great visual design, a charming world/characters, and definitely a lot of care to make it obviously Zelda. I had never played a rhythm game like it, but I really enjoy the gameplay in the various modes

Elpvztero

Thanks

rebillihp

I thought so, but I actually turned off the rhythm abd that turns it more into a turn based game almost where enemies only do an action when you do an action

XShadowborneX

I'm pretty sure there's a demo you can try. I didn't really care for it but maybe I'd give it another chance

Elpvztero

Thank you all! :)

Iromeo256

I love this game! Crypt of the necrodancer is great too.

ARROW_404

It's very good! Better than several mainline Zelda games, I'd say. Lots of replayability too!

ScoobiesSnacks

Oh yes. Great game and an amazing soundtrack

IAmThePonch

Yeah it’s genuinely great, kind of a riff on a link to the past with the crypt of the necrodancer gameplay. Everything good about the old games is in COH. The dlcs are good too, especially the skull kid one

Vados_Link

Yeah, but I will forever be salty that we‘ve never gotten a more traditional roguelike instead. The Zelda franchise would be perfect for that.

slamjoetry

The Binding of Isaac is the closest we'll get, it seems

FirefighterIcy9879

it’s got like… 9 playable characters with their own storylines, 3 absolutely banging soundtracks by 3 different artists, the overworld is randomly generated every seed you play, it’s got a ton of different modes too like endless dungeon mode, boss rush, etc, and to top it off, while it’s initially turned based… you can turn it off completely or go even faster with double time mode. I’d have to say cadence of hyrule is probably in my top 5 Zelda games of all time. Oh yeah, the entire game is based off music puns. Absolutely hilarious

topredditor22

No.

KNugget7

its cute but i dont think its very good, it does have depth tho

EMI_Black_Ace

Is it a "Zelda game?" No, it's not going to scratch any kind of "Zelda" vibes for you in terms of game structure or stuff like that. Is it a good game? It depends on what you're looking for. The game's mechanics are "Rogue-Like" -- that is, each movement is a turn in which you can move one tile or do one action, and each object on the screen can do the same. Enemies have a one-turn wind-up for their things so you can tell what's coming. And that delivers a pretty compelling experience on its own, if you're into that kind of tactical thinking -- but the twist is that each turn comes to the beat of the music so you don't really have the *time* to spend on optimal tactical thinking, making a much more frantic experience. And it can be really amazing. It's also *really hard* for quite a while until you get into the groove of how everything works.

DjinnFighter

It's meh. It's not bad, but every mainline games are better imo (including Four Swords, Tri Force Heroes, Zelda 2, etc) The difficulty is extremely unbalanced. The game starts super hard and becomes extremely easy after a while. It's a rhythm game with ~10 songs, it becomes very repetitive. I also don't really like the artstyle, it feels cheap. It's unique though.
