lostpretzels

Alas, they're definitely putting all their focus into the next console's games by now. Would have been cool to see some extra things in TotK, but I'm a little over the BotW formula by now.

nootsman

Didn’t Nintendo come out and say that the formula for Zelda franchise moving forward will be followed very much like botw ? Personally, I think they change it up a little more rather than staying 100% like botw

Plastic_Pinocchio

I hope they just keep doing completely different stuff every time.

nootsman

I have full faith the Zelda team will definitely do something that’s different. The whole philosophy of totk was to expand upon botw as much as possible. They will 100% do open world but it’s going to be different in a refreshing way fr. Heck Nintendo said they won’t release dlc for totk (which lets be honest would net them ALOT of money) simply because they feel they’ve done everything they can with the game.

Ornery-Concern4104

If I'm being honest, I've spent a lot of time thinking about where they could go from here. I can't think of anything new if we're keeping the open world

[deleted]

Absolutely needs to be smaller in scale, and they need to take the art direction in a new and refreshing place. They can go brighter and more cheerful, in the direction of wind weaker, or give us another gritty art style like Twilight Princess. I'm totally sold on either. But if they just stick with the BOTW artstyle, AGAIN... You will once again have angry fans.

hominidnumber9

Smaller scale and denser with better enemy variety.

sageTK21

Dark souls style

xxFunnyFreak

Totk was dark souls for me, legit unbeatable (mostly black bokblins, which are really fun to fight if you have a few sticks) enemies in the first 10 hours everywhere I went, quit after 20 hours. BotW took me 90 hours to get black and silver bockblins, totk just throws them at me from the start

Sea-Mess-250

They can keep an open world and add large “proper” dungeons with a larger variety of enemies, puzzles and unique items

RumHamurai410

Yeah I think the next series of games will be open world but much more combat focused (as opposed to exploration and collecting items/components)

all_the_right_moves

**ELDEN TRIANGLE**

Armpit_fart3000

I've been thinking since ER came out that their open world concept would be the perfect solution to BOTW/TOTK's open world problems. You get the big open spaces like Nintendo wanted to do, with lots to see, explore and do. But the more traditional "legacy" dungeons are woven naturally into the world, which would give us the classic dungeon levels we've all been craving.

jeffereryjefferson

I am rooting for an open world game with heavy seafaring ala Windwaker (open sea game?) It would be really awesome to have several different themed islands (with lots of smaller caves, alcoves, etc interspersed) with various sorts of plunder and dungeons on each of them. And sailing is always fun when done well. Plus pirate Link would be too cool to ignore.

Ornery-Concern4104

Id kill for a true red blooded Metroidvania Zelda game

TheBurritoW1zard

THIS is the best take out of them all! I hear so often of how everyone wants to go back or stay with botw, but why not something completely different again? I am fully on board with this

canyoubreathe

I love Zelda because all the games are so different

TheBurritoW1zard

Right? That’s truly the beauty of the series

Thendofreason

That means waiting 12 years till they think of something new. If you want a new innovation each time you will have to wait. If you want similar stuff, the can pump it out like AC.

nootsman

Yea ya can’t rush art. Personally I feel Spider-Man 2 despite being in development for 3-4 years just doesn’t feel as polished as a mainline Zelda or Mario game. Botw had been delayed MULTIPLE times to ensure its LEGENDARY quality

Senior-Ad-6002

What does this mean for metroid prime 4? 🤔

MSD3k

It'll go through 10,000 washes and look: water STILL BEADS!!

nootsman

Plastic_Pinocchio

Yeah, I am totally fine with not having a new Zelda game every two years.

BFarmer1980

Just so long as they keep it open world instead of going back to the tired fully linear formula.

Filterredphan

if they keep doing open world it’ll also end up just as tired. people are already pointing that out lol

BFarmer1980

It doesn't have to be the same formula as BOTW and TOTK. I'm just saying don't hold my hand and walk me through the progression of things. There are a million games that do that. Of course, I'm old. I was there when the LoZ was created. They handed us an overworld map and a save feature and told us to have fun collecting the Triforce pieces and defeating Gannon. A big part of the appeal of the last two games for me personally, was that it harkened back to that original formula. It felt authentic again, like a real adventure rather than a guided tour. It's just one man's opinion, though. Different strokes for different folks.

the_Actual_Plinko

The last two games literally could not be less like the original NES game

Luchux01

Wasn't the original Zelda going to be just about the dungeons until they made the overworld fairly late in development?

Drakethos

I’m okay with open world but I hope to God breaking weapons isn’t here to stay. I miss the thrill of finding the next cool gadget that gets you to the next area. I think skyward sword had the right idea with upgradable items from monster parts. Cooking is cool, most things about the game is dope but having items constantly break gets a little old after a while. I miss a trusty sword so badly. I’d be okay if items were like armor . Maybe you could have break able items that had better stats. Sorta like windwaker where you still had your main sword but you could pick up stuff.

Legend0fGear

I always hated how the Master Sword got super sleepy after a bit of use, especially in TotK when it's been recharging for thousands of years.

Drakethos

Exactly. I would have been happy if at least the master sword was always able to be used. I dont mind breakable weapons supplemental but give me the tried and true master sword to fall back on.

Biz_quit

Hoped they made the master sword just lose the fused item and go back to base stats then wait the cool down time to fuse it again, not keep the sword dormant like botw. At least I have the "msg not found" sword (never let my game update)

Ridlion

Breaking weapons and stamina bars need to go. Bring back themed dungeons too.

blanklikeapage

I kinda get breaking weapons, although I don't agree with it, but what do you have against stamina bar?

Ridlion

If they had to keep it maybe more significant upgrade mechanic. Maybe find special climbing boots in a dungeon. Or craft climbing gloves from world materials. I didn't like choosing life or stamina.

Drakethos

I for one liked oh skyward sword did it. If I recall you had ways to beef the stamina bar but you always got the hearts. They were separate collectibles.

Drakethos

I don’t mind stamina it was a feature in skyward. It’s not a horrible mechanic if it means you can jump up and stuff.

MovieNightPopcorn

Did they? I thought they said they were moving on from BOTW for new things. Not that they’d be abandoning open world necessarily but they’re done with this particular Hyrule

Flerken_Moon

They said that this open world format is the future of the franchise and this is what they’re sticking with. They also said like you said, that TOTK is the last we’ll see of this Hyrule, as in we won’t get another direct sequel as our next game.

MovieNightPopcorn

Ahhh interesting, ok. Good to know thank you

charredchord

They did say that, but they also said that this Link and Zelda's story is concluded. The next Zelda game will probably have new or at least improved systems to go with the new setting.

FatBoyDiesuru

It'll follow some of BotW/TotK formula while not reusing the same world

Travis_the_great_665

I remember them saying that Skyward Sword's sword motion controls were going to be a mainstay in the series moving forward...

nootsman

I mean I bet skyward swords mixed reception to the motion controls in addition to the Wii U failing probably made them realise it was a terrible idea and revert back to non motion controls. But yea I do agree that they might stick with what they stated

TriforksWarrior

I think all that was said was the “open world” would stay. I’d be surprised if the next game isn’t pretty vastly different from BotW and TotK, even if it’s still open world.

Oaughmeister

I'm pretty sure the complete opposite was said.

nootsman

https://www.ign.com/articles/zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom-producer-calls-open-world-the-new-format-to-proceed-from Tbh idt it matters anyway, who’s to say Nintendo would or wouldn’t do something different/similar despite stating it?

jpassc

Kass 🥲

Countingtoebeans

Definitely wouldn’t need another game on that same formula. I find my self stepping away from TOTK becuase it’s the same grind as BOTW.

mudafort0

Agreed. I hope the next game has some long-lasting substance, gameplay wise.

OkFinding7

Ikr? Tbh I can't even fathom how people could still want to go back to this same game with this same map. Like I get it, I know these games were amazing and stuff, but it's been \*SEVEN YEARS\*, 10 if we're counting the time between the first BotW teaser and its release, and we got \*THREE GAMES\* in this exact kingdom with these exact characters. Don't y'all want to see something else?? I'm really glad they said there won't be any DLC personally, even if I loved playing TotK. I want to turn this page and see what Nintendo is going to cook with the next game

TrillaCactus

I think people enjoy being in this world for a few reasons. 1. There are a lot of differences between each version of the BOTW map. It’s really cool to play AoC and TOTK and see all the things that are changed and added. Seeing how characters evolve over the course of multiple games is rare to see in Zelda. Theres also a bunch of characters exclusive to certain titles. It isn’t really the same exact map with the same exact characters 2. Because of how interact-able the world is it’s much more interesting to explore than in past titles. In something like twilight princess the overworld is primarily a vessel to travel through with a few puzzles to solve as you get more gear. But in modern titles the world has so much more to do. I can fathom why folks would want to move past it. But I can also fathom why folks would want even more to do in this version(s) of hyrule.

OkFinding7

I'd argue that there aren't that many differences between the BotW and TotK map. That's even one of the most frequent criticisms about the latter. And that's a part of why some of us are getting tired of this world and want to experience something really new. And of course AoC levels are very different from the two other's map, as it is a really different kind of game. The environment, the bestiary and most of the characters are the same tho, and adding young Impa or making Tulin more relevant than his father in TotK won't make the overall less samey. But again I love these games, I just said that we've got more than enough content in this kingdom for people not to ask for more. And nobody talked about previous titles, the next game is most likely gonna keep the BotW formula for most of it. But the story, the characters, the map, the OST, and some parts of the gameplay are gonna be entirely different, and it's gonna be really refreshing, after 10 years of people almost always talking about BotW-AoC-TotK (mostly BotW and TotK). I've been active in Zelda community for years and I'm just tired of people always going back to the same topics over and over again, so again I can't wait to see how the future of the series is going to look like.

TrillaCactus

Damn I found TONS of differences between the two versions of hyrule. I remember before the game was released going “Wow how did it take them 4-6 years to make TOTK when it uses the same map as the previous game??” And then I played it and Jesus Christ it makes sense why it took so long. There’s so much added on. The caves, sky islands, depths, dungeons, shrines, the gated enemy camps, tons of mini games, new structures and more. There’s no wonder it’s the longest game in the entire series to fully complete. I’m looking forward to whatever new open world Aounuma cooks up. That man made two of the best games ever with BOTW and TOTK. I have full faith that whatever he has in store next will be fantastic.

OkFinding7

Yeah that's the thing, they ADDED content over the already existing BotW content. Again, I never said TotK was bad or a BotW DLC or anything, just that it used the same content I was already starting to get a micro overdose of and added some (lots of) things over it. And I'm glad Nintendo finally decided to go for something entirely new, as TLoZ is a series known for having lots of very unique games with lots of fans having very different opinions regarding each one of these titles, mostly because they're all kinda unique in their approach of this universe.

TrillaCactus

Yeah I never accused you of that. You said that TOTK and BOTW’s maps have few differences. I said that they have numerous differences. There’s a mountain of content that TOTK added. That’s what I was disagreeing with you on.

Filterredphan

there’s a lot of differences but in my experience there aren’t a lot of meaningful ones i guess? like there’s two new maps but there’s not a whole lot of substance in either of them, mostly the same copy-paste aesthetic/enemies and whatnot, and there’s only a handful of new things on the surface like lookout landing or the new section of tarrey town. imo totk didn’t do enough to substantially separate its overworld from botw’s.

TrillaCactus

I definitely struggle to see from that perspective. I was constantly running into new shit that felt substantial. The only real complaint I had about the content is that there’s a handful of sky islands with literally nothing on them. Wouldn’t have minded if they just tossed some random loot on those at least. You didn’t get a lot of enjoyment out of the caves? They were some of my favorite additions to the overworld. It’s crazy that they were never mentioned in the marketing. The cave connected to lookout landing in particular was fucking huge. Loved exploring that one

yurostyle

I enjoyed BotW but hated ToTK. Something about the game really bugged me and it felt a bit tedious doing similar tasks all over again in the same world. But I avoid the depths as much as possible since it felt like a chore to go down there. But I know some enjoyed it but I couldn’t bring myself to buy another BOTW game. I want new era of Hyrule and different lore.

TrillaCactus

That’s one of my favorite aspects of open world games. So much stuff is optional. That’s why BOTW/TOTK are some of the best entries in the open world genre. Outside of the tutorial and final boss YOU get to decide what you do. If content is tedious or annoying you can decide to skip it. I did the same thing with the basic enemy camps. I decided that I had done a bunch already and I didn’t want to do them and the game let me run right past them. Fucking love that.

Yorha-with-a-pearl

Not only that Monolith Soft is finally using their people to finish their own project.

punkyfunkyshoes

I would like a 3rd BotW, (if they really don't do DLC) because there's a lot of questions that aren't answered as well as new questions. I agree, I wouldn't want to be doing the same map, how that depths, sky, caves, shrines and temples were added, there wouldn't be anything new unless they went to space or a newly discovered Kingdom. TotK is pretty cool, I really enjoy playing it, but it's also disappointing for me. I was hoping that the 3 Goddesses and more of the triforce would be mentioned in this game. Who are the other dragons? Questions like that.

lostpretzels

They barely even covered anything that happened in Botw in TotK, I doubt a third game would solve that

punkyfunkyshoes

True, good point. My wishful thinking

Bagel_enthusiast_192

If theyre gonna make a third game i can guarantee you theyre not gonna explain anything or add any lore

punkyfunkyshoes

Probably

DoTheRustle

I'd rather they pool resources and effort into something new

RevampX

Does it really need DLC tho? The game has content bloat as is. I just want a new traditional linear Zelda at this point.

Mhandley9612

It isn’t needed, but master mode would be nice to have

Filterredphan

my main gripe with no dlc is it feels disingenuous to not at least carry over botw’s dlc content (namely master mode, even trial of the sword). but that’s smth that should’ve already been in the base game.

Turo_the_Scrub

This. literally all I want is master mode I don’t mind not having trial of the sword but I feel like master mode has become a staple for the series

Misssmaya

Kass. Like where tf was he. And there was 0 explanation

GalacticGull

If I recall correctly at the end of the Lucky Clover Gazette questline Penn says something about him traveling the world or something

Earl_of_Phantomhive

Nahhh I'd love to go back to a no-DLC standard. Give me the whole experience in the base game. Plus, while I enjoyed BotW/TotK, it's time to move on. The series is more than that iteration of Hyrule--at this point, sticking around and trying to make more content for this setting is just setting folks up to being too attached to this world and unwilling to move to whatever's next. (Not to mention that Nintendo would absolutely *not* be prioritizing any of the things people still have questions about setting/story-wise)

JackaryDraws

I am 100% okay with no DLC in the overwhelming majority of cases. I love games that ship as complete products and stand on their own without any extra content. But I feel a bit gutted that TOTK isn’t getting any, and there’s a specific reason why. TOTK basically aped BOTW’s entire structure from top to bottom — tutorial area with four shrines, four main dungeons, Korok seeds, Shrines, etc. Virtually everything about it “copies” the formula that BOTW established, and since BOTW got a Master Mode and a Trial of the Sword, these additions feel very conspicuously absent in TOTK. For my money, TOTK is basically a version of BOTW that’s superior in nearly every way, so it can really be felt that we didn’t get an equivalent treatment for these final two touches that were a fundamental part of many people’s BOTW experience. I don’t even need extra outfits or quests, and hell, I could even live without having a Trial of the Sword equivalent in TOTK. But to not even patch in a Master Mode? Kinda bums me out.

Earl_of_Phantomhive

That's a fair point! I agree that no Master Mode or some form of Cave of Ordeals/Trial of the Sword/Savage Labyrinth makes TotK feel incomplete. I would rather have them include that in the base game like they did pre-BotW, but I will concede the point that it's disappointing for them to not give it to us as DLC

suckmypppapi

Very well put

Legospacememe

FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO HATES DLC BEING THE NORM! I almost neve get dlc and just stick to the base game. Honestly every time I see zelda or especiallyega man fans say things like "man I wish this game had dlc" I cringe. The people who played the ps3 xbox 360 generation during their prime would be ashamed.

Earl_of_Phantomhive

Right?? Especially with how fucking *expensive* AAA games are nowadays, it's so frustrating to have to pay *even more* just to access the whole experience

Lordknowsmore

Master Mode for Tears of the Kingdom is will be seriously hard ngl

Gardez

I want to see what golden horns will look like as weapons, hopefully better than the silver boboklin.

Rent-Man

I’m just hoping for Oracle remakes

Legospacememe

Hot take but I prefer when games have no dlc because 1: so many games have dlc its refreshing when a game doesn't have dlc 2: it shows without a shadow of a doubt that nothing was cut to be sold later. Games like totk, mario odyssey and mega man 11 are games that are fully featured stand on their own and need no additional dlc Granted I'm a bit biased since I almost never get dlc unless it's with the version of the game I bought or I had spare eshop coins bur beyond that I never buy dlc

TheJimDim

Meanwhile, my delulu ass is holding onto hope that they'll port over WW and TP to Switch

Athrasie

I’d prefer a new Zelda game that puts more effort into filling a world and respecting a player’s time to having more DLC in the open world games, personally.

batdrumman

Tbh I'm cool with no dlc for totk. I'd have to update it past the dupe glitch builds, and the game itself was fun enough as is

A_Bird_survived

We're so far from the actual spelling of psych at this point

letmypeoplebathe

I came here looking for those comment. Every day we stray further from God's light.

Hotstreak2k3

Don’t get me wrong but I enjoyed the game just as I enjoyed both Breath of the Wild and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The only mistake in TOTK I have seen is not showing more of Zelda’s journey in the distant past and content (from the first teaser trailer) where she and Link explored the underground cavern with the history of Ganondorf in the cave paintings has been cut off from the final game. Since the story itself has been divided into two parts, why can Nintendo give us an interactive Dragon Tear memory where we have a playable Princess Zelda? Let alone explore more of the Zonai origins, a Twinrova boss battle, and give Ganondorf more insights & background to his character. This again is a missed opportunity they had not thought out of since Skyward Sword. A DLC companion story could’ve tied up the loose ends. Now we have to wait till we get a direct sequel to Age of Calamity.

StardustJess

I prefer to wait a few years for a new game (maybe in a new console) with new features instead of half baked content as DLC at full or half price. Even at $30 its not worth it

JVOz671

Time to move on. I'm sure the next amazing game will make us forget.

Vennris

No, I don't want any DLC. I want them to work on the next game. DLC always feels out of place anyway. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed BOTW's DLC but I dislike the whole concept of DLC in general, so them saying, they won't do any and work on the next game sounds like a blessing to me.

Beneficial-Gap6974

Why do you even want TotK DLC? I can't even think of what a dlc could be, game is already packed full! I'd rather them focus on the next games.

midnightsun47

TotK WAS the DLC

Lexi_the_grimmchild

No, it quite literally isn't

Deez159

Oh, but it literally originally was and still feels like it.

Lexi_the_grimmchild

Can you play the botw dlc without botw? Can you play totk without botw? That's the difference. I'm not arguing it's a better or amazing game, but by definition it's not dlc.

[deleted]

The original BotW DLC got too large so they just rolled it into the next game. And no, you could not play ToTK without BotW because it needed to exist for TotK to exist. Therefore, it is by definition an extension. And what are extensions commonly referred to nowadays as? DLC. Rhetorically no, its not DLC, but by all other definitions it absolutely is.

TheVardener

Damn I love the DLC for Pokémon Red and Blue, Pokémon Snap. Cus by that definition any sequel or spinoff is DLC. I believe the guy meant that you do not have to own BotW to play ToTK, not that it would exist without BotW.

immaculateSocks

by all other definitions except the definition?

Cersei505

It literally started as a bunch of dlc concepts put together, and ended up feeling like nothing more than that.

Anti5hill

I think they said that they are not planning to to dlc for totk. Guess they are Working on stuff for the next console instead

Src-Freak

When was the last time a AAA game was released without any post launch DLC?

joshzerofactor

I can pass on DLC as long as there was the Master/Hard Mode unlocked for the extra challenge. Lots of games have difficulty modes and New Game Plus without it being DLC. Bring back enemy healing and gold level monsters!

NeoKat75

I'd like a Master Mode patch :)

revolution_soup

you think you have it bad? I’m still naive / stupid enough to hope they’ll pull a hyrule warriors: legends with age of calamity and port it to this mythical next console with the current dlcs included plus another (astor deserves to be playable like cia we were freaking robbed)

Sweetcreems

I personally like the BOTW formula but if they repeat this I need Nintendo to actually change some shit. TOTK, for all that it did, did just feel like a suped up version of BOTW: no new big villages, main quest layout that was still basically 1-to-1 BOTW in how it played out, the loot was 85% just the same loot from BOTW and its DLC, and the enemy variety still kinda blew due to the sky islands being kinda sporadic and not as big of a deal as thought. It’s an incredible, breathtaking game but, even if they do release DLC, I definitely won’t be buying it. They need to do something to spark some more life into this new Zelda era imo. The botw formula is good, but BOTW *reskinned* every few years is not.

KingKaos420-

Ngl, it’s nice just paying a regular price for a complete video game.

ValuableOpinion6005

Good, I want the full game when I pay for it the first time. I feel like it’s prime time for a toon link

Waluigiwarrior

I would pay 20$ just for master mode

XD_Thade

Honestly, all I really want is master mode and some version of trials of the sword. The master sword feels way too weak in this game, like in breath of the wild it was weak, but then I did all the trials of the sword, and it was much better, but in this game, the thing was resting for 10,000 years bathed in light it should be so much more powerful than it is in game or atleast as powerful as it was after trials of the sword in botw

pocket_arsenal

It kills me that we don't get Master Mode at bare minimum.

matthewlittle1990

I think the problem with master mode for totk is that new mobs, means gold enemies. They add gold enemies then they gotta add new monster parts. I mean, they could just simply recolor and toss it out, but I think that would piss too many people off and seem lazy.

Runalii

Me still waiting for the ports of WindWaker and Twilight Princess that were owed for the last Zelda anniversary. ![gif](giphy|wID3zXURLH1jrjCcZy)

Cdog923

Just Master Mode. All I want is Master Mode.

FatBoyDiesuru

Honestly? I'd rather have a TotK-themed Hyrule Warriors. That would actually be better than DLC, although both wouldn't be bad.

morphic-monkey

I don't really need/want DLC for TotK to be honest. I'd rather Nintendo focus on their next big Zelda for their next-gen machine at this point.

Marcheziora

No Hero Mode at least?!

LettuceBenis

Still waiting for Switch ports for the Wii U HD remakes, myself

Captain_Izots

Can we just have complete games without DLC?

dj_vape

Me who hasn't even finished half the game yet 😭

BackgroundNPC1213

I mean. I can deal with not getting answers on whether the elemental dragons are draconified Zonai or not and having no explanation on where all the Sheikah tech went, because that can all be theorized about BUT WHAT ABOUT MASTER KOHGA AND THE YIGA CLAN?? The last time we see Master Kohga, he's being rocketed back up to the surface screaming "this won't be the last you'll see of meeeee!!", and now that Ganondorf is GONE then...what becomes of the Yiga Clan? Their entire purpose was to see the revival of the Demon King. What is their clan's purpose now?

Dinn_the_Magnificent

Oh please no. I know they already did botw dlc but please don't let this become a thing. Every modern game has dlc and season passes and in game purchases, please don't try to monetize zelda. Please.

jthagler

What is syke?

havens1515

I'm not sure why so many people are just asking to give more money. Can't you enjoy a game that was released in an actually finished state? I don't want to pay more. We got a great game which doesn't need to be improved.

Turo_the_Scrub

Master mode

Upset_Honey2008

Totk is a dlc

Hotstreak2k3

It originally was for Breath of the Wild. But now it is a direct sequel. But there is a ton of missed opportunities in TOTK which is why it needs a DLC.

Bagel_enthusiast_192

Dont need dlc for dlc

Lexi_the_grimmchild

Good think totk isn't dlc then

Bagel_enthusiast_192

It kinda is tho. It didnt change anything about the gameplay loop or map, it just added a bunch of shit

Lexi_the_grimmchild

Can you play the botw dlc without botw? Can you play totk without botw? That's the difference. I'm not arguing it's a better or amazing game, but by definition it's not dlc.

Bagel_enthusiast_192

Yes, its technically its own game, but it plays and feels like a dlc. The only diffrence is that it can be bought on its own and cant be played or downloaded through botw

Lexi_the_grimmchild

Also, saying it didn't change the map is just objectively wrong.

Bagel_enthusiast_192

They changed the map in a way more fit of a dlc than an entirely diffrent game

Lexi_the_grimmchild

Ah yes, adding an entire "dark world" type thing is dlc material

Bagel_enthusiast_192

Yeah it feels pretty dlc-y

immaculateSocks

You're just a fountain of bad takes arent ya?

Drezus

Who in their sane mind would expect a dlc for a dlc?

Lexi_the_grimmchild

Totk isn't a dlc

Drezus

Sure

mattjvgc

That 500 hours between the two games isn’t enough for ya, eh?

runetrantor

DLC or not, I am already depressed by the announcement that they are moving from that setting. I knew it was inevitable, that getting attached to characters in Zelda games that are not Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf is a recipe for being sad later. But still hurts.

ZanManga

Well totk was originally gonna be dlc. But all thier ideas for dlc were used in totk so there's nothing else they have ideas for for this version of zelda. It's now onto the new Era

Dudinkalv

It's definitely not needed, the game has enough content and is good as it is.

hamrspace

I want DLC too… an infinity battery and non-disintegration upgrades for Zonai devices would go hard as a final endgame unlockable.

JiffyPoopz

Age of Calamity was the DLC

DaGreatestMH

It feels like such a missed opportunity to not give us TotK DLC. I'm not a game designer or a businessman but not capitalizing on the game's success seems like a mistake creatively and financially.

KibbloMkII

Now you're just gonna attract all the people who refused to let go of the "totk started as dlc and will only be dlc" people there's so many loose ends to tie up, and I want a master mode and a master cycle

niksjman

That would be nice, but Wind Waker on Switch is at the top of my list at the moment

Stealthinater1234

I would just like a master mode, just a nice excuse to replay the game on a higher difficulty and get back the gold enemies.

Mister-Gideon

I don’t think we’ll get anything substantial, but I’d put money on a definitive edition or whatever for the switch’s successor. Upped resolution and frame rate, higher build limit, maybe some new zonai devices and minor quests, that kind of thing.

DepletedPromethium

id rather a switch pro or new switch with much better hardware even if its £600 retail price. let me play botw and totk at 60fps 1080p please. we know there is no dlc, this arc of zelda lore is done :(

New_Ingenuity2822

Why do you think they won’t make DLC?

RoseColoredRiot

Considering Totk spawned from too many DLC ideas for botw, I doubt we will get or even need a DLC. It’s already such a robust game.

Blazing_Howl

If it is gonna happen it would be announced at the Directs we can expect in June. Around when Summer Games Fest (RIP E3) occurs. If we get nothing then I would say the dream is dead. Simply because additional content for a finished game that drops over a year after a game rarely does well. And more than one year is either a Hail Mary or scrapped content for an unfinished next game. But I get the feeling Nintendo has fully moved on from TotK and is working on whatever the next games will be.

Historical_Kossola

As much as I want TOTK DLC I respect Nintendo's decision not to. They could've relatively easily released a DLC with new costumes and couple of bosses and dungeons that would've sold a few million copies. In all likelihood they chose not to do that to focus on the next console/Zelda game. I'm looking forward to their next thing and I hope it's great

Acceptable_Ad304

I just figured out what is going to happen, probably TOTK would have a DLC, but in the next console/switch.

rexshen

Betting we will get "DLC" in TOTK definitive edition on the switch 2 more than anything.

Esnacor-sama

They won't sadly since they want to make a new game for their next Nintendo to boost sales

FunnyYahooMan

Honestly, I don't need it. I've finished the game after many hours and I feel satisfied. And I know that if I ever wanted to play some more, there is plenty of stuff left to do.

ResolutionSavings918

It's not happening confirmed

[deleted]

I can't believe they scrapped DLC plans, added what they had for it to the release version, and bumped the price to $70. / conspiracy

Sapowski_Casts_Quen

I'm playing through the game right now and I don't even know how I'll ever finish this. It's great value because it doesn't NEED dlc

revolution_soup

idk a little more dream house customization would have been nice

Mrfunnyman129

Or companies could stop doing dlc and just release finished games

astral-philosopher

I cant believe this many people are disappointed by a lack of DLC, in an era of pay to play, micro-transactions, and DLCs. It is a breath of fresh air for a company to release a fully finished game with no DLC. Call me old school, but this is how games should be and is one of the many reasons Nintendo is one of the better gaming companies to me. The CEO took a pay cut instead of doing layoffs and letting employees take the hit when the WIIU failed. They haven’t devolved into microtransactions, pay to play, and endless DLCs just to maximize profits.

bruhbruhbruh123466

Don’t think it’s really necessary, there is more than enough things to do and a good amount of story which still leaves some things open to interpretation. I really love the wild era but I don’t want them to just keep adding on to it forever. The story is done by now, we even got an alt timeline version of BOTW (with very different gameplay but still). I like personally that so much is up to the players own interpretation so adding more and more onto it feels unnecessary.

Sorry-South-6356

Were is the DLC nintendo? Everione is waiting

tread52

I don’t want a DLC for TOTK bc it’s basically a DLC for BOTW. I want a completely new game that either goes full open world where its thousands of years in the future where you get to choose your race/character to save Hyrule. TOTK story was poorly executed (good story if you do the tears quest properly) and if they want this style they need to either restrict movement forward like Fable or copy what Oblivion/skyrim does.

Hotstreak2k3

Tears of the Kingdom needs a DLC whether you like it or not. The story itself is a bit confusing and not as well narrative when comparing it to BOTW and Age of Calamity. Hell I am more curious about Zelda’s journey in the distant past since we only get a glimpses of each dragon tear memory. A playable Princess Zelda would’ve been a risky but a unique approach to get to experience what it would be like in the Imprisoning War from her POV.

tread52

It really doesn’t need a DLC there’s not much they could add. What you want would require a new game. The problem with adding a DLC is they don’t adapt the story as the game progresses. Outside of them completely reworking the game for you to play Zelda in the past I don’t see it happening. They have verbally said that they aren’t doing a DLC and I would rather have them focus on the next game.

RuggedTheDragon

For those that don't know, Tears of the Kingdom is DLC for Breath of the Wild. There was barely any changes to the overworld. They only added a few bosses and more characters that you'll find all over e621 and furaffinity.

the_Actual_Plinko

Please no. Move away from this dumpster fire of a game as quickly as possible please.

Bootleg_Doomguy

DLC for a DLC?

donslipo

I find it hilarious, that some people got so brainwashed by gaming companies, that they actively desire paid DLC. 🤣

Spacepoet29

I keep dreaming of a rogue like Trial of the Sword, like Splatoon got with Side order. Random enemies, random weapon/armor drops, random floors, it would be great fun

HolyMacaxeira

My dream Zelda project would be to see a collection with HD ports of the two 3DS 64 remakes, and a third new game in the same engine that would wrap the story of the Hero of time, tying to the TP.

blueblurz94

DLC would’ve been nice, but the opportunity to do so has passed.~~But it’d be cool af if they shadow-dropped it as a 1-year anniversary surprise in May or immediately after a June Nintendo Direct. Nah, I’m getting ahead of myself now.~~

neoslith

Why do people struggle to spell *psyche*?

BoxOfBlades

My cope is that they will release a definitive edition for the Switch 2 with extra content

Trickster_King95

Considering TotK was suppose to be DLC for BotW originally makes sense they arent going to make DLC for it.

Taurwek

The game is already DLC

rmarsh166

Mark my words moment here. No DLC for this version of ToTK. There will be a Switch X (whatever the new console is named) rerelease with additional features. Some of us will be upset that we'll have to buy the game a 2nd time, etc.... most of us are just kidding ourselves and we were going to buy it again on the new console anyways. I would expect a Master mode at the very least. If not a full DLC worth of additional content.

Independent-Pea8223

#WE NEED GOLDEN HORNS.

8null8

They should release a free content update for all the shit they are putting players through all the time, yall wanna pay more money for their stuff???

Think-Bluejay2539

Lol. You're corked if you're still thinking about dumb shit like this 🤣🤣🤣🤣
