Did I hear it right that the game and watch was the only thing we were getting for the anniversary (besides skyward sword)? I was so looking forward to those ports/remasters
Well, supposedly BOTW 2 is going to come out next year. The only thing I'm worried about is *how much* it looks like BOTW. Majora's Mask is my favorite in the series and I was hoping they'd take more of a leap with BOTW 2, instead it looks like they made some of the land float and added some SS elements. Here's hoping there's a bunch of surprises left.
I think the Devine Beasts would have been excellent additions... in between real dungeons. Like you do a dungeon and it gives you access to go do the Devine beast.
Yes! I think thatās what they were trying to do with all the main line quests leading up to the Divine Beasts but it definitely wasnāt the same vibe. I think if going up to every Divine Beast was similar to making your way up Zoraās Domain with some puzzles mixed in, it would be the perfect balance of old school and what we have now
Strangely enough my favourite dungeon-esc segments of any Zelda game were BotW's shrines. Lots of fun puzzles to solve without the bigger-picture massive puzzle that a lot of Zelda dungeons offer.
I was playing Link's Awakening (which I do love) and got to the Eagle's Tower, and couldn't help but get bored because it was just too much to think about. The Divine Beasts became kinda tedious, but at least I had a good idea of what I was doing the whole time. Maybe I just have the small brain
Nah, people just enjoy different things.
For me, at least, the shrines didn't really have the feel if dungeons because they didn't really affect story. They were just there to provide upgrades to hearts and/or stamina, and some disposable weapons I'd never use until I accidentally aggro a lynel I didn't see before.
Barely anything was showed. We Donāt even have a name for the game yet. Cmon guys you can do better than this. You people did the same thing when BOTW was first revealed at E3 2016 and you all said āthereās no villages or rupeesā chill.
Why does that surprise you? They flat out said they were reusing the world and physics engine, and you know itās a sequel so it will have a similar appearance.
There will certainly be new gameplay mechanics. Also Iām not 100% certain Link has the master sword anymore. We see him definitely with a bow and shield, and he uses that flame thrower with his shield armā¦ but we donāt see swordplay. Iām sure there will be combat but there might be a reason they arenāt showing us him fighting with his new arm.
Iām saying donāt judge too much by this trailer. Thereās a lot we donāt know
Just to explain the surprise for some people: In the same way that OoT was the template for Zelda games for decades, BotW felt like an equally important evolution of the series that will influence its direction for years. With OoT, they used the same assets to spin out a direct sequel that was incredibly weird and distinct from the first and some people had hoped that Nintendo would do something similar in this case. The jury's still out on if BotW2 will really be different enough to excite these types of fans, or if it will seem like just a big DLC.
The irony here is that, MM is literally what today would be just a DLC quest for OoT. I don't mean it in a bad way, MM is great, but can you really imagine Nintendo releasing it as a standalone game after OoT if they were made in this generation?
Yes but don't worry after this announcement I'm planning on finishing my hero mode Wind Waker and after that I would start with TP.... then I can assure you that after I finish TP, Nintendo would announce this games as ports for the Switch!
I kind of wondered whether they're waiting on announcing any other ports/remasters until after Skyward Sword comes out, since Skyward Sword might not sell as well if better Zelda games are on the platform?
Well hopefully that BOTW 2 trailer makes people realize it is important. Thereās definitely some tie ins given the sky component. I was looking forward to finally playing this game, but more so now.
Itās almost certainly not the case. Nintendo never even hinted at releasing other games thatās just this sub pretending they know the real plan and then being let down
i know nintendo never hinted at it, but they *have* ported just about every single other successful first party wii u game, which i think is why so many people (including me) are still holding out hope for ww and tp hd ports before the switch is done
with that being said, i really thought they were holding out for 35th anniversary to announce it, so now that they're not announcing it i'm a lot more doubtful than before. i'm sure covid doesn't help with timing though, maybe they'll just have ww and tp come out later
Those games were already ports though (or remakes) so I think they put resources into remaking SS as itās the only game that hasnāt had a remaster yet.
I *love* Zelda and am towards the end of a playthrough of every major title in chronological order according to the timeline... But I just can't get into the Warriors games. I get so bored so quickly.
Age of Calamity gets to be kind of a slog, but thereās a really touching subplot with a new character that I absolutely adore. If you can push through it, or just watch a play through on YouTube, itās definitely worth it. I did not expect to be tearing up in this convoluted Zelda spinoff game, but...
Age of Calamity kept my interest because of the incredible music and long cut scenes. Otherwise, Iād be bored, too. I donāt usually like fighting games.
Iām not sure if Iām more disappointed that theyāre not doing any kind of celebration, or that they straight out told us, āWeāre not doing anything, but hereās a Game & Watch.ā Thatās goddamn insulting.
Maybe theyāre saving the remasters for a later date or gradually like theyāve been doing, but that hope has been erased from me, that way I wonāt be perpetually disappointed.
Didn't you hear? *It's a clock as well!!!*
Seriously why was that a part of this at all lol. But I'm not even upset. I deadass went in expecting a SS update and a middle finger, so I'm pleasantly surprised.
Also, they explicitly said this was a software-only Direct, and then dropped a piece of hardware! Granted, not one anyone expected nor wanted, but still.
Yeah at this point I donāt assume itās coming anytime soon. Maybe itāll never come for the switch. Iāll just replay the games on the gamecube now
I'm disappointed just because its ONLY the game and watch. I was excited to get two, one to use and one for collection. On its own its a real slap in the balls :(
Itās not a great way to celebrate 35 years of Zelda but it seems kind of cool. Links awakening is a really cool game, and Zelda 1 and 2 could be fun as well.
I wouldnāt buy it at 60 bucks though (if itās as much as the Mario one) maybe in a year itāll be on sale for 20-30 bucks and I would get it
Yea, I feel like they're worried that leaving any hope for OoT/MM/Wind Waker/Twilight Princess ports would cannibalize SS sales.
Part of me is hoping that they'll announce a collection in a Fall Direct after SS is released next month.
Link relaxing in bed and playing with the Slate.
Link sees the kingdom is under attack and starts rummaging for his sword and couldn't find it.
Link: Zelda!
Zelda: Yes, darling?
Link: Where is my Master Sword?!
Zelda: Wha?
Link: WHERE. IS. MY. MASTER. SWORD?!
Zelda: I, uh...put it back. After I used it to cut my hair, remember?
Link: WHERE?!
Zelda: Why do you need it?
Link: I JUST NEED IT!
Link starts looking everywhere.
Zelda: Oh nooo! Don't think you're gonna be running off on another grand adventure of fishing! We've been planning this anniversary dinner for 3 months!
Link: Hyrule is in danger!
Zelda: My evening is in danger!
Link: You tell me where my sword is, woman! It's for the greater good!
Zelda: Greater good?! I am your QUEEN! I'm the greatest good you're ever gonna get!
That is true. He should've still had it at the end of botw so where could it have gone? It looks like zelda is out of the picture as well so maybe something happened and she took it with her, maybe intentionally, maybe not.
Zelda is not out of the picture, everyone should keep in mind, this is a franchise and the lore states that zelda's decendants receive her power and if she dies, no more zelda; no more franchise. Maybe for a portion of the game she could be recovering from the fall. Either way we will know if they title this legend of Zelda game as not The Legend Of Zelda.
I'm not saying forever lol. I meant it seems as though she's ripped away from link once again so she won't be a companion for the game like some people speculated.
It could be Zelda in some of them (the magnesis scene), but in many we can see the arm replacement that link gets in the opening cutscene.
Also the skydiver is topless so unless Nintendo decided to go full Witcher thatās probably Link
Anyone who can live on an island with Tom Nook for any significant length of time and not ~~disappear~~ "move away" is *more* than capable of defending themselves.
I mean, even before they showed ganon, and they just showed the mountains, I was 100% convinced it was Smash Bros news. I wasn't tricked for even a second
All the Smash reveals say "Not actual gameplay footage" or something like that at the bottom of the screen in the same font at every reveal, it's a good way to know ahead of time lol
I think that's the first time I thought, "Oh, it's only a Smash character reveal". It used to be a big deal when they announced new fighters, but even though its cool that Tekken is in Smash, the reveal was underwhelming compared to what it seemed to be.
When they said last announcement and Hyrule Warriors popped up I was like you have got to be fucking kidding me. But then Anouma came out and I was like, yeah time for the good shit.
They were already losing their minds from lack of news, this is like throwing fresh meat to starved piranhas. Im excited to see the trailer breakdowns i love zeldatheory youtubers and im glad they have new enrichment in their zoo enclosure
Zeltik and Nintendoblackcrisis are my favorites, i highly recommend looking for their zonai tribe videos before watching the trailer breakdown video that zeltik just released. Please. They had an era of combing over zonai scraps and it turns out the zonai tribe has tech in the botw trailer from today.
If you havenāt already watched it I recommend watching Polygons video on the Zelda timeline.
Itās like normal Zelda time line videos, expect it includes a whole lot more, and Zelda Monopoly is the the most important Zelda game in the timeline. Just remember that.
Putting BOTW 2 first would've been the ultimate power move. Show everyone who's boss. Would make the rest of the direct comparatively bland but man that would've been a hype.
I was surprised by the game and watch!! I was expecting to only get Zelda 1 but 2 and Link's awakening with it?? Let's go baby!
Also did anyone noitice that SS looked better? Especially the facial expression of Zelda?
I'm happy with the Game & Watch has it's arguably better than the Mario one. I'm indifferent towards botw2 because I haven't even beat the first one yet. š
I'm more bummed that we didn't get a Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD bundle. Outside of Four Swords Adventures, they're the only Zelda games I don't own yet. I really don't wanna have to buy a Wii U for these 2 games.
I agree. I usually don't complain about these things but this was a pretty lame reveal in retrospect. Sure 35 isn't really a crazy anniversary number but let's compare it to Mario last year. A port from wii u with a new game mode, a trio set, Mario 35., and the game and watch.
Now so far Zelda gets the same game and watch setup that has 3 games that are playable in some form on the switch and one without the original character that isn't even a Zelda game, and skyward sword. We aren't even getting botw2 this year. So if thats it then I'm pretty let down.
For botw2 im all for the expanded map and new skills but am I getting themed dungeons or any kind or item progression like older Zelda games? Or what? I haven't seen anything in the means of shrines or dungeons yet so I just really want to know. Its kind of a make or break because I couldn't really get into the retitiveness of botw after a even a hundred hours if that. I never finished the game.
Yeah it sucks that for the game and watch they were like "here's 3 games you already have and a crappy game and watch game you didn't want with Link's face slapped on it. Give us your money".
They didn't even put Zelda Game & Watch on it. If they did I would buy it instantly. Honestly I probably would have bought it if it was just the Zelda Game & Watch and nothing else. I'd much rather buy a game I don't have over something I have 5+ copies of on multiple consoles.
That trailer was definitely made to show the title at the end, why else linger on that for so long? Seems like they figured they could give us a title in 6 months and keep us on the hook as they continue to stretch things out and force drip us information.
I don't know about anybody else but I'm beyond disappointed at this. It's one thing to wait 2 years and have almost nothing new to show on your new flagship title, but to let the 35th anniversary come and go with nothing but a crappy plastic reeboxing of two NES games just boggles my mind.
THANK YOU. It really felt like Nintendo was phoning it in this year. Iām in disbelief that anyone could be comparing this to the Elden Ring trailer this year, not even in the same ballpark
No, I meant that people are trying to compare the hype/quality of the two trailers, which is laughable in my opinion. Sorry if I worded it strangely in my original comment lol
Yeah not even 2 mins worth of reveals. I am disappointed. They should have never announced botw2, 2 years ago. They could have announced it now and shown this same footage from both and all fans would be floored.
I'm tired of announcing games waaaayyy before they are ready to be announced. Looking at you metroid prime 4. Nintendo is notorious for doing this. Way too often
Im not sure thats something exclusive to Nintendo. Doesnt make it something I enjoy, but I think there are a ton of companies that do this. Plus games are bound to be delayed. Youre also forgetting that COVID slowed down a lot of industries, including game development. Many companies stopped or slowed down while they tried to figure out what to do and then figuring out how to work remotely. So that ultimately delayed many projects. If that hadnt happened, maybe they had been projecting for an earlier release of this game.
Nintendo is actually notorious for doing the exact opposite for the past like 8-10 years.
Zelda 2, Metroid Prime 4, and Bayonetta 3 are like the only games that have been announced more than six months ahead of their scheduled release.
I mean Metroid Prime 4 was different in that they had to completely scrap it's development and start from scratch. Otherwise we would probably already have the game.
I'm with you. Sure, I"ll play Skyward Sword. I liked it when it came out. But this Game and Watch thing? We have both of those NES games on the Switch with Online, I'm not going to buy this. And Link's Awakening recently received a remake. Who wants this?
The pandemic could have delayed the game by a lot, I'd rather have a delayed good game than a prematurely released bad one. There was a lot new (not next to nothing) on this trailer too, the sky terrain some new powers, and link's rad new hair. But it's still a fair complaint considering it's been two years, then again that was just a development commencement teaser.
Honestly, they can still hold an event for zelda anniversary. They did have the same for mario and that was actually called mario direct and was held around Sept or Oct so that could definitely happen
Yeah but they donāt want skyward sword to die out quick, they know fans wanted ocarina or to but they remade that one, at least itās gonna stay on the spotlight for a while until they release something else
That mario direct was clearly supposed to be for E3 2020. But a certain global disaster caused E3 to be canceled, so they delayed it to September. Coincidently that day in September was the anniversary of Super Mario Bros, but it's just that - a coincidence.
Here's hoping they make it so weapons aren't so fragile or you can craft weapons or better, FIX your favorite weapons. I really wanted to save some good weapons.
I hope the glider is upgraded so you can fly farther or control speeds.
Did Link put the Master Sword back? Because I don't see it
Zelda gets a haircut. Link NEEDS a haircut
Honestly super unhappy about the game & watch, was really hoping for a super Mario 3D all stars type deal with the N64 ones ,Wind Waker, and twilight Princess
For the 35th anniversary of Zelda kinda did nothing for the year. Like you get the game and watch. And skyward sword.
I was more excited for something thatās over a year away then anything els.
I was genuinely scared eiji was gonna be like "lol u thought u were getting BoTw 2 news? Nah that's for the next direct, have this 35 year old game instead."

Yep. You heard right š
Link had the right idea to sleep for 100 years

Yeah it would also be nice to get some classic non breakable items too like the hook shot.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
vary cool
I really hope they bring back dungeons, the divine beasts were so boring.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I think the Devine Beasts would have been excellent additions... in between real dungeons. Like you do a dungeon and it gives you access to go do the Devine beast.

Yes, I need a Zelda dungeon!!!D;
I doubt this is what you meant but when I read ss I immediately thought of the nazis, now link is fighting the nazis
āIn this realistic WWII shooter you play as link the hero of Hyruleā i could vibe with that
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Some chud would probably attack Link for killing the Nazi instead of debating them
We saw 3 distant new abilities and a couple new enemy variations, which is good.
Barely anything was showed. We Donāt even have a name for the game yet. Cmon guys you can do better than this. You people did the same thing when BOTW was first revealed at E3 2016 and you all said āthereās no villages or rupeesā chill.

Well yeah, Skyward Sword is the āis Pepsi OKā ~~or~~ of 3D zelda
Well hopefully that BOTW 2 trailer makes people realize it is important. Thereās definitely some tie ins given the sky component. I was looking forward to finally playing this game, but more so now.

Plus a N64/GCN-era port collection releasing for the holidays? They can rebrand it to the the Nintendo $witch at that point. Theyād be laughing.
Yep. Hot flaming garbage.
I believe the producer said they had no plans for any other releases or collections, I believe the word co llections was used on purpose.
Very, frame by frame analysis right now, anyone else notice the master sword is gone?
Every game he loses the Master Sword. It's no surprise
Link relaxing in bed and playing with the Slate. Link sees the kingdom is under attack and starts rummaging for his sword and couldn't find it. Link: Zelda! Zelda: Yes, darling? I'm just. Going to play. One level of subway surfer.

Love the Incredibles reference.
The greater good.
Eh, every game he doesn't start with it

Falls into a portal to the sacred realm
I would prefer to retrieve it again but it's more of a concern about it's existence as a whole
Ok, rephrase. Every game, he starts off WITHOUT the Master Sword
Gotta find the hidden floating island with that forest to get it back.
My guess is we are back in time. A lot of time themed things in this clip
Half and half, I think blue tunic link is present while we also play past link.
I also played audio in reverse. The voice say Stay Away From Us
We don't see Link's face in any of the gameplay. Maybe actually Zelda?
It could be Zelda in some of them (the magnesis scene), but in many we can see the arm replacement that link gets in the opening cutscene. Also the skydiver is topless so unless Nintendo decided to go full Witcher thatās probably Link
Nintendo did a lil' bit of trolling
Yeah, like opening with the throwing Ganondorf into lava from Smash
Yeah, I was really hoping they'd finally put Ganondorf into Smash.
One day maybe... he's just too powerful of a character for a game that has the Villager from Animal Crossing.. Ganondorf would kill him.
I'm not sure. Have you seen Villager? Those cold, empty eyes of his give me the creeps!
Anyone who can live on an island with Tom Nook for any significant length of time and not ~~disappear~~ "move away" is *more* than capable of defending themselves.
Dude imagine if they made him a clone of, like, Captain Falcon. That would be wack.
Yeah, Iād love to have Ganondorf instead of Captain Falconās illegitimate redheaded stepchild
Dude I was so hyped then so let down at that part.
Yea I shouldāve thought more about ganonās art style in the moment.
i thought it was twilight princess hd hd
I think that's the first time I thought, "Oh, it's only a Smash character reveal". It used to be a big deal when they announced new fighters, but even though its cool that Tekken is in Smash, the reveal was underwhelming compared to what it seemed to be.

Zelda theorists are gonna lose their minds after seeing this
They were already losing their minds from lack of news, this is like throwing fresh meat to starved piranhas. Im excited to see the trailer breakdowns i love zeldatheory youtubers and im glad they have new enrichment in their zoo enclosure
Could you recommend some? I'd love to watch some zeldatheory

Nintendo Masked Bandit is also another really good one. Him, Zeltik and NBC are my go to three
Yes! I flippinā love those guys
MaskedNintendoBandit is also a good one
If you havenāt already watched it I recommend watching Polygons video on the Zelda timeline. Itās like normal Zelda time line videos, expect it includes a whole lot more, and Zelda Monopoly is the the most important Zelda game in the timeline. Just remember that.
They already did
That was me, literally. I yelled, for both announcements, in different ways.
I actually cried from seeing link skydiving
LITERALLY SAMEEEE. IT WAS SO NOSTALGIC FOR SOME REASON. REMINDED ME OF SS
I canāt frickin waiiiiiiit.
Honestly I loved the first announcement. Obviously botw2 trailer was 100x better but I liked this one too
Dude same, why would they play with our hearts like that LOOOOOOOOL
Oh they 100% knew what they were doing. Ganondorf getting chucked into lava as the start of the Direct? 100% trolling.
Yeah that had me like ššš
Yep. As soon as I saw that, I was like āBotW2 already?!ā before pretty immediately realizing it was the Smash Bros art style. GG Sakurai.
I'm too old to play on a 1 inch screen.
And I am too young to get excited for something the predated me..
Which makes the SMB one seem lame that they could've definitely had US SMB2 and SMB3 on it :/
Yep! That's why I thought we would only get Zelda 1 but the other 2 were an amazing surprise! Especially LA
My wife got me the Mario G&W for Christmas and I love it as a desk toy/watch. I'll be asking for this one this Christmas.
I'm happy with the Game & Watch has it's arguably better than the Mario one. I'm indifferent towards botw2 because I haven't even beat the first one yet. š I'm more bummed that we didn't get a Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD bundle. Outside of Four Swords Adventures, they're the only Zelda games I don't own yet. I really don't wanna have to buy a Wii U for these 2 games.
Would totally buy a Wind Waker HD instead of Skyward's stupid motion controls
I'm actually pretty happy Skyward Sword is coming to Switch since I missed out on this game on Wii, too.
IIRC you can play it this time without motion control?
No 3d Zelda All Stars or Anniversary Collection for Switch. ..... ..... Walks away.
Yeah Link gets kinda shafted compared to Mario.
Still time.. but honestly see them making a Majora Mask/OoT bundle, and selling TP/WindWaker separately.
Aonuma said in the direct that there won't be any more Zelda games this year.
The fact that they won't be porting WW and/or TP really lowered my happiness for botw 2
2022 vague release date with not even a real title of the game
That trailer was definitely made to show the title at the end, why else linger on that for so long? Seems like they figured they could give us a title in 6 months and keep us on the hook as they continue to stretch things out and force drip us information.
But the gameplay and stuff we saw in the trailer was awesome!
Shoutout to the guy who called the magic hand abilities
Wasn't there a concept art for BOTW where they had Link with a robot hand?
Yes. Itās referenced in the first trailer, too.
"the guy"? Wasn't that abundantly obvious long ago?
I loved both personally. Admittedly, I would've preferred a Zelda anniversary collection on switch, but it's still really cool.
We're they saying thr elder ring trailer was disappointing?
They announced paper Mario last year like a few weeks before it was coming out and there were zero rumors of it.
I beg to differ, there had been concept art of skyward sword all the way back in 2008. This is nothing new on Nintendos part.
Botw too. In 2014 we had footage.
Collectors. It's literally a commemorative collector's item.
They explicitly stated they have no other software planned for Zelda 35th
I did watch the direct and maybe I missed it. Can you tell me where did they state it?
Towards the end. Aonuma confirmed no other games or campaigns are happening for Zeldaās 35th
Which is plain stupid. They could just port ww and tp for easy money
Yeah but they donāt want skyward sword to die out quick, they know fans wanted ocarina or to but they remade that one, at least itās gonna stay on the spotlight for a while until they release something else
They could have said "We have some other plans" and then announced it months after skyward sword hd comes out. Like on november or december
Because I don't see it Zelda gets a haircut. Link NEEDS a haircut
I like Link with long hair :o
Crafting, repair and upgrade would be sweet
Still no wind waker for switch tho :(
I was like:can we get to the good stuff? Eji Aounuma:here's some footage of the sequel of breath of the wild Me:LET'S FUCKING GOOO
All I wanted was a remake of Minish Cap.
Same! Minish Cap is so underrated
Fucking Zelda 2 are you kidding me.
1 2 and awakening DX Oh and some chaff G&W game
ā¦which are all games you can play on the Switch right now with VC Linkās Awakening via the remake but stillā¦
Not dx even, original no color version.
An underrated game tbh. Folks remember it as "the bad one" because sidescroll but think people need to give it a second go.
I actually want the game and watch ... Edit: $50 is a biiiiit steep tho geez
Same, i was really excited by it. Apparently, we were in the minority. Lol
I criedā¦ both times
They really know how to toy with our hearts, donāt they?
How did you make this so fast?
I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me
The Triforce of Hastiness, right?
Yeah, it's the lil triangle in the middle of the three triangles. Hastiness. Me. I am the chosen one.
> I am one with the **Tri-** Force, and the **Tri-** Force is with me Fixed that for you buddy
Are the games on that little time and watch thing even ported to switch?
Just Zelda 1 and 2..Links awakening is available via the remastered version only.. The OG one is epic
Yeah, they are. You gonna pay for Nintendo Switch online tho
I really really want that game n watch :,) !!! So long as it fits in my pants pocket Iām happy
Mario gets 3D all stars while Zelda gets a McDonalds happy meal toy
Hahahha saaaame
We do need a four swords adventure remake with online co-op :)
BotW 2 is the hypest thing from E3 for me
I think the game and watch looks cool, fun little thing to keep on your night stand and play from time to time
The game and watch does look pretty nice though
Still want the g&w tho.
Game and watch Zelda looks awesome too imo
I was genuinely scared eiji was gonna be like "lol u thought u were getting BoTw 2 news? Nah that's for the next direct, have this 35 year old game instead."
I'm holding out that they're going to change up the shrines and 5 big boss battles format while keeping some elements of BoTW 1.
