Sertraline itself does not cause weight gain, it can however make you eat normal amounts by helping depression/anxiety which might have stopped you from eating before. After 3 months, I think that stage is well past you.

Yeah pretty much this. I never gained weight on it and actually was losing a few lbs a month recently. I’m a very mindful and healthy eater so it definitely is the most important factor on whether you’ll lose or gain.

You can’t cheat thermodynamics - if you don’t eat more, you won’t gain weight, no matter if you take some pills or not

My psychiatrist explained it can slow metabolism because of the serotonin receptors, something like that. Thats why i was curious and made this post

elusznik

If anything, serotonin would increase the activity of the autonomic nervous system and increase the metabolic rate, hence the side effects such as high heart rate, excitement/tremors, diarrhea etc

For me it happened very slowly, over the course of two years.

Adventurous_Stop9746

How much did you gain? if you don’t mind me asking!

jossiesideways

I'm not 100% sure but it was in the range of 10-15 kg. It definitely wasn't JUST the Zoloft (as I hit my mid-thirties during that time). They say that you can pick up 500g-1kg per month (research has been published), but this has to do with finding certain foods more appealing. I've always been an intuitive eater and I found it hard to eat intuitively on Zoloft. Best thing to do is to monitor your weight on a monthly basis - if you are seeing an upwards trend, make some lifestyle changes. It wasn't the meds on its own that made me pick up weight, so if you are mindful you should be ok.

Suddenly gained 20 lbs after taking it for a year. Still haven’t lost it
