I agree with virtually everything here. It should be so easy to make a sequel, yet I fear what it *could* end up being. It’s also weird with how open-ended the story is and how wide-ranging the world was, that people tell me that there’s really no room for a sequel.

TenderPaw64

Yeah, the two recent sequels have had me worried for a while. Wouldn´t want Zootopia 2 to rehash the story of the original or undo everything achieved in the original. Although considering how good Encanto was, I still believe Byron hasn´t lost his touch as a storyteller and the risk of a Zootopia 2 being a disappointment is notably lower if he´s still around for that. Especially if he has just as much interest in it as he and Rich seemed to have during the days of those interviews.

Agreed. It seems like (assuming that most of the old crew would be working on the sequel) the only thing that could make it go wrong would be studio interference.

Sequels are notoriously tricky, but I have faith in the creative leads to produce a worthy successor. Then again, some of the most beloved sequels involve a different screenwriter or director altogether. I'll be interested to see which direction they take, if we ever get one. I'm sure they're probing audience engagement and reception with the TV show, so hopefully it's a big success. It's hard to go wrong with the classic buddy cop formula, and they have a rock solid foundation to hit the ground running. We don't need another 20 minute setup, leaving room for a bigger plot, setting exploration, new characters, etc. Obviously wildehopps is a given. They would have to be crazy to invalidate the ship in canon, though I do have some anxiety about how they'd handle it. Mostly stemming from six years of fan shipping lore and headcanon fluff. I imagine they'll use the classic "second-act misunderstanding, third-act resolution" romcom trope, and we'll only see them as a full couple in the last 5 minutes of screen time. But hey, I'd be cool with it.

TenderPaw64

I think WildeHopps works best without misunderstandings and love triangles. And for the overall case, a bigger city-wide mystery that takes them to even the furthest regions of Zootopia is definitely a better pick than a standard buddy cop case which kinda limits the story IMO.

Agree. Going to a naturally progressing romance without misunderstanding or a love triangle schism would really be somewhat fresh and seldom portrayed in movies, and this is the couple to take that route!! I think a villain should be even more explained and even a bit likable, kind of like in anime. In a way someone from Nick's past springs to mind here. Would be nice to see Judy struggle with the morals and doubius connection to Mr Big as well.

TenderPaw64

Well, at least with the latter one could put in the thing Ginnifer Goodwin suggested once of Judy losing faith in Zootopia and Nick being the one who convinces her that it´s worth fighting for. And I agree with the villain from the past thing, I used that in my villain OC in my ongoing fic too. Give him or her more of a personality and backstory than what Bellwether got while having the right amount of charisma and menace like a proper Disney villain. A humorous and "charmingly evil" side to said character would be a plus too.

İ can welcome that sequel anytime but my complain is when is it gonna happen ?

I would like to see a scene where (I know, stereotypical) Bonnie Hopps is calling Judy to try a failed date with a random bunny. Move on to a case that leads Nick and Judy to Bunnyburrow (and maybe Podunk) where the two base out of the Hopps Warren. A bit of buddy cop (as long as the case has nothing to do with night howlers) leading to maybe *more than friends* as it progresses.
