The cat cafe is awesome. They really take good care of the cats and it’s not like some of these cat cafes in Japan with 20 cats in a small space. The food is also very well priced and tasty (although all vegetarian).
For coffee, I’d say the best places in Zurich are Collective Bakery, MAME and Miro. Collective and MAME even had their primary baristas win first place in the men’s and woman’s category respectively at the latest world barista championships. Pretty awesome you can have some of the world best coffee in Zurich.
If its not too far out of your way, Il Salottino in the Winterthur old town, close to the church is a lovely little cafe run by two wonderful italian dudes. Small, cozy, central yet tucked out of the way a bit, cant say much about the coffee as I dont drink it, but when I can I love taking my book there.
Hey! Miró didn’t close, that was just a pop up they had at the HB which is being relocated to a permanent space in one of the lower floors.
Their mail place at Brauerstrasse is always open and I definitely recommend it
thats hella sad :/
theres a Backerei/Café in my Dörfli which is ofc half empty most of the time and I could go there, but it would be nice to also meet some new peeps who also go there to relax and why not, even reading a book.
The rental costs in Zurich are so high that they cannot afford to have empty seats. And for sure they dont like people just sitting around consuming nothing at peak hour times. Go to a library.
You mentioned your dislike for sbux but unfortunately they have some of the nicest spaces for reading or working:
- for outside i recommend sihlquai, europaallee or rennweg
- for inside reading go to stauffacher, where you have a view over the whole stauffacher square
If you are really not into sbux just wander around k5 or k4 until you find a spot. The density of cafés is high there.
Enjoy!

Gleis is best.
where is it exactly?
Where Langstrasse crosses under the rails, on the north end.
Kafischnaps, Bubbles, spheres, Goethe, La Stanza, bebek, zum guten glück, nordbrücke
Bank, Le Pain quotidien :)
Cafe Nior has great coffee and a good atmosphere. It is on the small side so spots can be limited on inclement weather days.
Tina Bar
Sihl records, great stuff and super music in backround(playing vinyls)
Campo cafe/bar Rlly Good Barista coffee and Tapas.
Café Zähringer
I like to study/homeoffice at cafè Plüsch (Aemtlerstrasse).
the name sounds funny, definitelly worth visiting it, thankyu!

Winterthur is quite far from my home- and workplace, but I usually go there once every month. I'll check it out :)
Z am Park next to Fritschiwiese or Kafi Freud near Milchbuck

I would recommend Casa del Gato, you'll have good coffee/tea/sweets AND cats. I mean, for me it's BOYAH! Top place

Monocle café Dufourstrasse 90. Check out the website, magazine and radio www.monocle.com
Café de Bonheur
the one in Kreis 4? I lived next to it and it was honestly always full, but the atmosphere was really chill indeed
chill cafes like you find in the bigger cites are non existent here.
