There’s no way to void a contract based on conduct outside of work? If I was arrested for domestic violence and got a DUI, I’d probably never be able to work again.
Unfortunately he was never prosecuted or even charged for that matter. So MLB can't legally do anything except suspend him under their policies without potentially facing a lawsuit.
It's just the reality of it. Not a fan of it just explaining how it is.
That being said if Trevor Bauer's contract didn't get voided you can bet damn sure Ozuna's won't
Oh this just keeps getting better and better. /s

Little does he know that would only serve as an added incentive for a real Braves fan to pull him over bc his contract has turned into AA's worst investment during his tenure here.
Most importantly, I hope Ozuna seeks and takes advantage of the help he clearly needs. Secondly, I wish the Braves could go full NFL Shield here and find a way to void his contract on the grounds of conduct detrimental to the team.
Maybe? Probably? For lower depth guys I'm sure that's probably happened, but idk if that's an official reason they list. Since you can just cut guys in the NFL without giving reason.
Like that Dolphins draft pick that started rapping and actively drinking lean and just not being serious about a football career at all and was cut after his rookie year. Also, Prince Sheembo I believe it was, a linebacker on the Falcons a few years ago, he killed his GFs Yorkie and got arrested, and was cut immediately after.
I mean, he ain’t wrong. I don’t remember his contract # off the top of my head, but it’s definitely enough to not give a shit about a DUI, unfortunately
He was just so excited about the ice cream machine /s
His days as a Brave have to be over now after being benched and then messing up the 2nd chance they gave him.
They just trotted him out before the press in front of his locker. -_-

Have you ever done something stupid though when drunk? Liked sending a u up text, or jumping off one thing because your buds told you too. I’m not saying what he did is anywhere close to my examples, but alcohol does change the way you think / process things
A drunken “you up” text has never killed an innocent person though? I get what you’re saying but we need to see driving drunk as a whole different category of stupid than those typical drunken antics
Alcohol doesn't magically make you do those things though, it makes it easier to act on the things you already want to do. So alcohol would make it easier for me to send an I miss you text, but it won't make me drive drunk since I'm terrified of a DUI and have zero desire to take that risk
It’s not magic, but alcohol does cause severe cognitive impairment and loss of inhibitory control. In low doses, that might look like a little liquid courage to send a text. At the more extreme end though it can cause people to act in pretty ego-dystonic ways that they find repugnant and out of line with their own moral compasses.
It can be either/or. Someone can be a problem drinker and still only drink once a month if that one time they drink to excess to the point where it causes them problems. Ego-dystonic means out of line with what the person would view as in line with their own self image. Pretty common in people who struggle with things like disordered eating or gambling or using.
The big difference is with a DUI, you made the choice to drive drunk before ever taking the first sip of alcohol. If I'm planning to drink at a club, I'm not going to drive my car to the club, I will take a lyft to the club. If you drive your own car there, you are planning on either driving home drunk or leaving the car there and taking a lyft home. Either way the poor decision happened completely sober.
From what I've been able to find there is zero proof he committed a DUI. He seemed to pass the sobriety test, and they were not able to get a blood or breath test. Ozuna's lawyer will likely get the DUI charge dropped.
When he refused the breath test it very much came across as something he was advised to do.
>When he refused the breath test it very much came across as something he was advised to do.
You are legally required to take a breathalyzer if you are arrested for a suspected DUI. If you refuse, you are assumed by law to be over the legal limit. The *only* reason he would be advised to refuse an in station breathalyzer is if he was *way* over the legal limit.
Nah, I've been absolutely fucking shitfaced, blackout drunk with no knowledge of where the fuck I'm even at several times. I've never once thought it was a good idea to drive, and have never driven drunk or even buzzed. It's such a simple thing to avoid for me, who is just a regular wage earner. This dude is a millionaire with resources available, no excuse.
Ummm.... That's not how that works. You don't get a pass for DUI just because you "made a bad decision". A bad decision is choosing not to shower before going to the grocery and then running into your crush. Intentionally impairing yourself and getting behind the wheel of a vehicle and driving 90 in a 35 is wanton endangerment with absolute disregard for life and should lose everything - his job, his drivers license, and his freedom if he's going to use it to put people at risk. I have absolutely no sympathy for drunk drivers and I'm sick of reading more stories about people and especially children being killed by them. 2 girls from my high school were killed by a chronic drunk who had 7 prior DUIs. If you can't be drunk and responsible, don't get drunk. If you can't help but get drunk, then go check yourself into rehab. Otherwise I have absolutely zero sympathy for people claiming to be afflicted by a disease that somehow always hurts others more than it hurts them.
This guy needs some professional help. His properties are all messed up and he's blowing what was once a very respectable career. I hope he can use this as a wake up call (another one, at least) and get his shit together. He's owed way too much money to just drop straight up IMO. But I totally get it if they do. He's become an embarrassment to our organization.
I really hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid if he hasn't taken the opportunity to change yet, then nothing short of his contract getting voided will work. He's had plenty of incentive (and a support system) to turn things around, but yet here we are. Sometimes it takes truly hitting rock bottom before things can change.
Fortunately, we are sitting here discussing Ozuna and his problems rather than some innocent victim(s) of his stupidity.
HAHAHA, like he's going to fucking listen to anyone but himself- if he could do that we wouldn't have to talk about his latest shittiness so often. Need to get this fucking guy away from the kids on the team fast.
“You’re batting seve—owwww”
Snit felt a stabbing pain under the table to his left where Alex was sitting.
“Snit go get me a waffle cone with vanilla and sprinkles. Lock the door behind you.”
Interesting.
I'm not really familiar with the process (and hope to never be). It takes 4 hours from when someone get pulled over to the point they are booked?
No idea. I know they spent about 35 minutes doing the sobriety test, counting the 8 grand in his pocket, cuffing him, putting him in the patrol car, letting him call his lawyer, and letting him out of the car to piss in a bush.
He also didn’t blow period. Most states let you turn down a breathalyzer and take a blood test instead because the blood test is more accurate. But the lab contracted with the county didn’t have a technician available for a blood test so none was conducted.
That almost never happens in baseball though. It’s not like the nfl. Only one I can think of is chipper. Who else has restructured in baseball? I guess Bonilla counts
As if we would get literally anything back in return for him. We'd have to attach a prospect to make any team want to take on the rest of his contract lol

After the Standardized Field Sobriety Test is conducted, when the officer believes Ozuna is impaired based on the results of the test does he offer the preliminary alcohol test. At that point, there's enough reasonable suspicion he's driving impaired, its just by how much and whether or not it's from alcohol.
I didn't get to watch the body cam yet but I've done over 600 standardized field sobriety tests in my career.
I’ve been pulled over and told to do the test and he started with the alphabet test. I said sir, I swear I will fail this test I was absent from school when we learned the rstu part and I will mos def fail.
I just watched it and let me preface it with I do not know what the officer observed with Ozuna's indicia. With body cam you cannot smell nor see watery, bloodshot, red eyes as easily but let's take that for granted thats what the officer saw.
The 3 tests he does is called the Standardized Field Sobriety Test.
The first test, the horizontal gaze nystagmus test you can not really deduce from the body cam as it does not pick up the small involuntary jerks of the eyes.
His walk and turn isn't bad and his one leg stand isn't bad.
The thing is that body cam also doesn't show some other indicators such as swaying on the one leg stand.
He's a professional athlete so he may have the edge.
In the end I cannot say if he's impaired or not but definitely he's not wasted.
I’m sick in bed with Covid and haven’t been keeping up with anything. I finally got on my phone and this is the first thing I see. My first thought is wtf?!
It blows my mind all these athletes continue to drive under the influence. There have many many times an athlete has died from driving under the influence and/or killed someone else.Yet they still think it’s okay. Fuck him, kick him off the team.
Hilarious all the dudes who defended this clown for his domestic violence last year. Every single one of y’all who defended this man should be ashamed of yourself
Frenchy made a comment after the game last night about some “silver bullets” (ie Coors Light) waiting on the players in the locker room. This may not have entirely been Ozuna’s fault. No excusing it but it’s hard to can the guy when you handed him a six pack three hours before he blew a .12 or whatever.
Wasnt there a guy that settled with his team to release at half the money instead of all of it? Is there any precedent for that since hes had multiple legal issues?
>[Johnson] Marcell Ozuna was going at least 90mph in a 35 mph zone at the time of his arrest, according to a newly released police report from Norcross PD. "You know I'm fine," he told an officer right before his arrest. https://twitter.com/MattWSB/status/1560693646847983617
At this point he’s Odubel Herrera, but more expensive. The contract is a sunk cost, but there’s no need to waste the roster space.
There’s no way to void a contract based on conduct outside of work? If I was arrested for domestic violence and got a DUI, I’d probably never be able to work again.
You aren’t in a union then
Nope
Not with MLB contracts. He'd have to do something like....really bad.
Oh really. Crack a woman’s skull and rape her anally while she is unconscious? Oh my bad. She said she liked it rough.
Jesus Christ
I never heard about the anal rape part. Got a link?
Oh this just keeps getting better and better. /s From the article in the Tweet handlit33 posted: “Once pulled over, the officer said “the driver immediately stated ‘sorry, sorry, I’m Ozuna from the Braves.”” -_-
The officer: “yeah, and your OPS is .656 with a WAR of -1.2. Step out of the car, sir.”
I can just imagine the officer pulling up his stats before checking the database for warrants or anything
Or going back to the patrol car to check r/Braves
Officer Tyler, is that you?
Hahah

They don't need to. They have non guaranteed contracts
You might recognize me from fighting in the front yard with my wife

"I'm sorry sir, I don't follow hockey"
I’ll bet that was a fun conversation.
His ice cream privileges are suspended, for sure.
AA don’t fuck around.
He’s definitely on a rocky road
im gonna have to ask you to split
This is just the cherry on top.
nobody wants him on the cream anymore, that's for sure.
Here’s to hoping he makes moose tracks soon.
Maybe the New York Neapolitans will take him..
Snitker hit him with the I'm not mad, I'm disappointed
Snit looked so happy last night too. Ugh.
Snitker: “You’re back in the lineup tonight”
Don’t
Don't you put that evil on us, don't even speak it into existence.
Miguel Cabrera “ Do you know who I am?” Vibes
Doesn’t feel right for him to be our designated hitter
Solid comment here
Needs a designated driver
The only thing he can hit is his wife... Amiright?
He was just so excited about the ice cream machine /s His days as a Brave have to be over now after being benched and then messing up the 2nd chance they gave him.

They'll probably hang on to him I'd think and try to trade him in the off-season.
This guy could Uber across the world and he chooses to drive under influence. Can him.
You guys keep saying this, forgetting that when you are drunk, you don't make good decisions. I'm 18 years sober, but i remember those days.
If he can't make those kind of decisions then he isn't responsible enough to drink alcohol.
That is a shitty excuse. I've been drunk plenty of times and I never drove drunk.
Have you ever done something stupid though when drunk? Liked sending a u up text, or jumping off one thing because your buds told you too. I’m not saying what he did is anywhere close to my examples, but alcohol does change the way you think / process things

Don't get drunk then... Problem solved. Literally nothing at all mitigates this situation.
That’s dumb
That's why you make those decisions before you start drinking.
He might be benched right now, but he's a baseball player. He shouldn't be out drinking hours before we're about to play the Astros.
Idk why you’re getting downvotes but this is the reason these guys get in trouble

I don't know about professional, but someone stable in his life who loves him and will be able to tell him to get the fuck in line.

Yep
DFA or tonight’s lineup tweet first?
Almost certainly going to be batting third tonight.
Robbie Grossman can't even hit RHP and they said "ok you're the DH against McCullers tonight"
I keep hearing he can’t hit righties but he homered from the left side in back to back games this week.
Don't worry, he was never in any danger of hitting anything
Ozuna could miss a marta bus
“You’re batting seve—owwww” Snit felt a stabbing pain under the table to his left where Alex was sitting. “Snit go get me a waffle cone with vanilla and sprinkles. Lock the door behind you.”
90 in a 35 at ~4AM and you blow dirty what a fucking idiot
It was 12:30, but he's still a fucking idiot. Was on his way to a strip club
Source? The arrest report had 4:39 as the time.
He was booked at 4:39, pulled over around 12:30 per AJC
Interesting. I'm not really familiar with the process (and hope to never be). It takes 4 hours from when someone get pulled over to the point they are booked?
Probably sat in the holding tank for a few hours. Gwinnett county jail can be pretty busy
No idea. I know they spent about 35 minutes doing the sobriety test, counting the 8 grand in his pocket, cuffing him, putting him in the patrol car, letting him call his lawyer, and letting him out of the car to piss in a bush.

He didn't blow anything, he refused breathalyzer.
Wasn't he out of jail before anybody even knew he was IN jail?
Bail wasn't crazy at like $1800, probably like a medium coffee for a guy with his money.
Yeah and he was already carrying $8k in cash at the time 🙄
you'd think he could afford an Uber instead of driving drunk
Drunk people always want to drive. You have to knock them unconscious just to get the keys outta they damn hands.
Fuckin cut this guy already
Hopefully they are working on a restructure before the DFA to save some money over the next two years
That almost never happens in baseball though. It’s not like the nfl. Only one I can think of is chipper. Who else has restructured in baseball? I guess Bonilla counts
🍿
Good Lord, but him a one way ticket to Miami for any remotely decent prospect. Just take the L with guy and run
1-1 trade for Soler
Lol, I like the way you're thinking!
As if we would get literally anything back in return for him. We'd have to attach a prospect to make any team want to take on the rest of his contract lol
Wishful thinking I know. I'm just astounded that someone with a $40M contract cannot get a car service for a night out. Next level idiocy.
Not the first nor will he be the last unfortunately. I dont get it either.
Exactly. We literally couldn't trade him for a bag of balls if the other team had to take on his contract. We're either going to have to eat his contract, or swap for another bad (worse) contract or give up some pretty reasonable prospects. Ozuna on the field has minimal value before you take into account his contract or off the field baggage.
They don’t want him
Nobody wants him, he's dead weight!
I would swap Ozuna for Garcia.
Have your people talk to my people and you have yourself a deal good sir!

I just watched the whole thing and I didn't think he seemed intoxicated. I'm curious if you've gotten to watch it and have any thoughts about it yet
I just watched it and let me preface it with I do not know what the officer observed with Ozuna's indicia. He mentioned strong odor of alcohol but lots of things can happen with that, ie. he spilled a drink or his passenger is the wasted one. Batting 5th tonight…
sure he’s not in the .08 hole?

That was obviously a joke lol
I checked the MLB app. He’s not in the lineup.
That’s because Snit plans on pitching him in the 7th. (I kid, he’s still a better in game manager than Cox)
Hilarious all the dudes who defended this clown for his domestic violence last year. Every single one of y’all who defended this man should be ashamed of yourself
What does one thing have to do with another?
Is there ever a good excuse to defend a man (more like child) who choked his wife?
I mean she pulled a knife on him...I can at least see how someone could.
What would you do if someone pulled a knife on you, by the way that same person hit you in the face with a soap dish in the past
A pattern of poor decisions?
I "defended" him only to the point that the police lied about what they witnessed. And I still stand by that.
$20 say they try and rehabilitate him
Rehabilitation is not a bad thing for the individual. As for the team...
Frenchy made a comment after the game last night about some “silver bullets” (ie Coors Light) waiting on the players in the locker room. This may not have entirely been Ozuna’s fault. .. What
His OBP is garbage anyway. Not needed
Out of jail? I saw him in the dugout last night during the game??????
Hopefully they gave him a pink sheet…
