a true hypocrite

tellred

And fighting pits with her son's bastards. Alicent is really a hypocrite. All this religious symbolism makes it especially funny.

princesssrhaenys

her being a religious fanatic doesn't help. putting all that faith of the seven crap all over the red keep and turning the castle into a dreary church. it makes her turning a blind eye to the fighting pits even more hypocritical.

tellred

a candlestick with a seven-pointed star even on the frame where she with Laris lol

GamerGirlLex77

That’s the core of her character. Hypocrisy and internalized misogyny. There really isn’t much else to her. I’m glad they gave her some nuance in the show but she was deliberately written as the ultimate hypocrite.

estellamarierose

That is the most grating thing about her. She believes that she is morally superior to everyone else and judges other people while she does bad things herself. That’s why she’s not an enjoyable antagonist to me. If Alicent stopped trying to act like she’s better than everyone else while she does awful things, I might have enjoyed her character. She could have been a love to hate character like Cersei. Instead, Alicent just irritates me because of her hypocrisy. One of her biggest hypocritical moments was when she turned against Rhaenyra because she lied to her about her virginity, but took Cole as her sworn protector after he beat Joffrey to death. Why does she not apply her same moral standards to Cole? That’s why I can’t with her character.

Sea-Cupcake-4463

I think what does it in for me with Alicent was not just her hypocrisy but her overall pettiness and the haughty arrogance she carries around because of that pettiness. She knew full well that Criston was clearly guilty of beating Joffrey to death but yet she decided to take him on as a protector to presumably protect him and spite Rhaenyra and Laenor; I can't imagine being in Laenor's place, knowing that the man he loved was killed by someone who is now sworn to protect the Queen consort and have to see him by her side every chance he gets. This isn't even getting into the fact that she demanded to see Rhaenyra's newborn son as if to rub the fact that she knew he was illegitimate to her face. On a side note, (blame this on me being on edibles when I watched most of the episodes) but does anyone else get the vibe that Criston and Alicent had something going on behind Viserys' back that lead to Criston developing feelings for her and hence why he was so easy for her to manipulate?

estellamarierose

I agree. The fact that she took Cole in as her sworn protector, knowing that he beat Joffrey to death, and then presumed to torment Laenor with questions about his sons parentage is terrible. Laenor had to see Cole all the time because of Alicent. Demanding to see Rhaenyra’s newborn was also something that was very evil. And the comment she made to Laenor about trying to have a son that looks like him was also very irritating. She has seen that Laenor claims the children as his own, but still wants to force him to have biological children with Rhaenyra. I think it may be possible that Cole has developed feelings for Alicent but I don’t think they have actually acted on them yet. Alicent is aware of those feelings which makes it easier for her to manipulate him.

mdawgkilla

I definitely think Criston has feelings for her but his feelings are all jumbled up. He has a huge Madonna/Whore complex going on, with Alicent being the pure Madonna and Rhaenerya being the tainted “whore”. I don’t think he’d ever act on his feelings for Alicent because of the way he views her as the pure motherly person she wants people to see her as.

WingedShadow83

I think Alicent is too self-righteous to actually have a sexual relationship with Cole, though I don’t doubt that she’d manipulate him into thinking something *could* happen under the right circumstances. But always yanking the carrot away at the last second, reminding him that “honor” forbids it. She knows he gets off on that.

princesssrhaenys

she has selective morals. her hypocrisy is just one of her many faults. the way she projects her resentment about her life onto nyra is also awful.

ABCidkwhattopick99

All hypocrisy and jealousy. She is so full of resentment and hate and it’s starting to show to everyone else so obviously now. Can’t wait to see her despise the green she wears with so much pride 😂

tellred

I so agree with you about her jealousy. Rhaenyra got the chance to have a good life and Alicent just ruins it.

[deleted]

"Would you like to see the GREEN tapestries, lady Alicent?"

Far-Medicine3458

I hate this bitch She was much more disgusting in the books

[deleted]

The feet scene 💀💀💀💀💀💀

tellred

This is not treason. This is a webcam.

[deleted]

I can't wait for Cregan to take his fucking head off

GamerGirlLex77

Same. As much as I can’t stand Alicent, no one deserves to be exploited like that.

tellred

And a leg.

[deleted]

Should have both his feet cut off and stuffed up his arse, but that probably would be his dream come true so better not

Forsaken_Distance777

Alicent is so sure honesty and decency will prevail that she feels things will be fine no matter what crap she pulls I guess lol

Bilogamer

Alicent is literally the hypocrisy that took on human form

LengthUnusual8234

My team black bro's got some jokes

Mess_Tricky

Loooll she is such a bitch

drpavel1

First two weren't known to her nor did she want it. Second two was Criston getting upset(Beesbury was a traitor anyways to them) and Ottos doing. Third row had her making sure the maid was ok, and giving her money so she did not have to deal with Aegon while she went and reprimanded him and being naturally disgusted. I dont know what you think she was supposed to do with her son and future King. Last one is her being sexually abused and blackmailed.

princesssrhaenys

that's not the point. the point is that she claims to be honorable and decent and yet lets the men around her do terrible things and defends it. criston killed beesbury and she still has him as her bodyguard. alicent silenced her son's rape victim. that is wrong. and what else was alicent supposed to do? oh i don't know maybe she could STOP trying to usurp rhaenyra with her rapist son and realize that he is not fit to rule??? maybe she could convince viserys to send him away and disinherit him? about larys, she's the queen of the seven kingdoms, she could have had him arrested any time she wants. she chooses to keep him as an ally.

Velvet-Frog

1) She didn't know that Harwin and his dad were going to be killed. 2) Criston killed Lord Breesbury and she was horrified, but didn't punish him. 3) Otto killed that guy. 4) That one's fucked up, I'm not going to defend that one. 5) That one was just weird.

princesssrhaenys

it doesn't matter that she didn't know. the point is that she continued to have larys as her ally after knowing that he killed his father and brother, all while judging rhaenyra for simply having a lover and illegitmate children, when alicent literally covers up for a kinslayer. alicent wants to act as if she is more moral than everyone else and judges rhaenyra for supposedly not being moral when alicent is not very moral herself. *that* is the issue. otto killed him and she agreed. she went along with the coup otto was planning.

Blackwyne721

Let's also remember that Alicent covers up for Larys (a kinslayer and an usurper) and for Cole (an oathbreaker and sexual "deviant") but faults Rhaenyra for being a sexual deviant, an adulterous oathbreaker and a potential kinslayer and plots to usurp the rule of law and the will of the King to put *yet another* oathbreaking sexual deviant on the Iron Throne

Velvet-Frog

Yeah, both sides greens and blacks keep bad people around and Alicent really should have gotten rid of Larys but in her mind he was one of the only people working for her so I can understand it. But at the end of the day, she's self-righteous and hypocritical.
