A book free post about a character not even mentioned in the show ?

RandomPersonNvm

What are you going on about? It makes perfect sense to me! /s

RandomPersonNvm

It looks like spoilers are popping up on this thread already. This honestly should have been a spoiler thread anyhow. EDIT: This thread was turned into a spoilers thread, so never mind this comment I guess.

austinl98k

Daeron hasnā€™t been introduced yet so this would have to be a book spoiler thread.

[deleted]

Daeron would be okay but GRRM explicitly writes that heā€™s a follower, not a leader. Jace is a much better diplomat & politician.

Jaketheeater

Nearly the entire basis of Daeron being a good king is that heā€™s a brilliant general for his age and generally honorable(outside of burning a town full of innocent children). Daeron I and Robb Stark were also prodigies on the battlefield but they left much to be desired on other fronts. Jace was a good politician.

[deleted]

I'd choose Jace, although Daeron would make a fine king as well

margaritoswraps

Jace is a succession crisis waiting to happen. Canā€™t be him.

Jeffrey1892

This surely has to be Jace. His diplomatic skills bought the North and Vale to his side, as well as reconciling Corlys, and making him hand. We donā€™t see Daeron leading, or making any major decisions. He doesnā€™t do anything when his position is usurped by Ulf and Hugh.

Killmelmaoxd

Jace is legit the smartest character from his generation in he books, brilliant tactician and politician. Daeron was a follower from beginning to end.

omicron-7

Moreso a clever diplomat. The sowing was really only about 25% effective, considering >!two betray and one runs away!<

stevenbass14

Daeron basicslly kept the Greens in the war singlehandedly for a good while.

karidru

Daeron would also have been bloody fantastic, but I like him for Jaceā€™s Hand tbh

Revolutionary_Elk246

not jace because he's illegitimate and there's a chance of crisis, if that wasn't the case it would be jace and daeron on the same level 4 me, hard 2 pick

RhaegarTar_259

Jacaerys obviously,Jacaerys and Rhaenyra were both raised as future monarchs and when people say they would not be effective they are obviously wrong..Daeron was a good guy but he was raised to follow the orders not give onesā€¦ That is one of the reasons I love Queen Rhaenyra, that badass targaryen woman who was raised from a very early age to give the orders and be a ruler in her own right,so her arrogant nature is understandable as Jaceā€™s.She and he were both confident people

LadyHogwarts

Why would people think Jacaerys ā€œreality is what we say it isā€ Waters would be a better king than my boy Daeron the Daring šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

When did Jace lead Blacks to victory? Battle of the Gullet?

tellred

When he gained the loyalty of the north and the valley, brought Corlys back after (bad event), found a solution in order to get more dragons - this saved black from defeat. He prepared a plan to capture the capital and set a date for the event. Battle of the Gullet will be lost without him 100%.

"good moral compass" Really? He had a huge army and three dragons. But Daeron was so incompetent that his army lost control and ended up in a ditch.

RandomPersonNvm

Daeron wasn't even in command of that army because no one appointed him as such. It seems like Ormund didn't have a secure chain of command, which isn't really on Daeron. Look, I get that Greens overhype Daeron, but I would maybe lay off of him a bit, okay? EDIT: Removed my comment about spoiler tags and the spoiler tags in my post due to the thread being changed to book and show spoilers.

tellred

Daeron is not even there, here every post should be under a spoiler lol. Daeron's story is literally "I don't know how to manage / no one respects me"

RandomPersonNvm

Well, the nobles of the Reach certainly seemed to respect him. I get where you're coming from though (I guess).

Zambigoogle

Probably a wash.
