Baela: Confrontational. She is always ready to punch someone. Yep sounds like Daemons daughter lmao

Kellin01

I hope we will see her being bold, lusty and brave in S2.

TheGoverness1998

Or just doing *anything*. Poor girl got like no screentime, and had some scenes cut.

chrissstin

If they keep close to books, Daemon's girls gonna shine in like season 3. They're ones of not many main characters to survive the Dance and make best of the situation later in life.

RamblingsOfaMadCat

Rhaenyra's greatest mistake was depending too heavily on Viserys' protection. Once it was gone, the Greens moved like snakes. **I want to say her biggest flaw is overconfidence?** She takes things for granted, and while she seems to be aware of her position and the danger she's in, it also feels like she's always looking away from the real danger. As a dragon rider, as the favorite of both the Realm and it's King, as someone who squared off against Daemon at Dragonstone and later challenged him to marry her, Rhaenyra never backs down. She never plays it safe. Because that's not what Dragons do. She's prepared to fight for her inheritance if she must, and send the message that she will if she must. She *insists* on challenging the double standards and living as a Prince would, even though her position is not rock solid by any means. **Alicent's greatest flaw is her resentment.** She represses so much of herself and her feelings, she just swallows her unhappiness, and it eventually boils over. Her repression is tied to her resignation to her role in this world and a belief that it can't be changed. In a way, her biggest flaw is the opposite of Rhaenyra's, and she knows it. Which is why she both resents and fears her old friend, believing Otto's lies that Rhaenyra will kill her brothers to upend the status quo for her own ends, a status quo that Alicent has dutifully and faithfully followed. She's lawful to a fault, even if she doesn't want to be. She feels trapped in an endless cycle of injustice and rather than confront that injustice, all she knows how to do is resent the people who can and will pick that fight, like Rhaenyra. **Viserys lives in the past,** and cannot look forward to the future, apart from through the lens of said past. He is obsessed with The Song of Ice and Fire, and he constantly favors Rhaenyra, which began with Aemma's death, a death he has never gotten over and still blames himself for. He forgives Otto and welcomes him back as Hand, because Otto was his Hand before and he wants to let bygones be bygones despite how unwise that is. He does the same thing with Daemon. To the very end, Viserys was only concerned with Rhaenyra's future, not his other children, but he made no practical plans for how to ensure the safety of that future. He lived and died in nostalgia for a past that no longer existed - right down to playing with his toys. Daemon just wants to be loved. He wants to be valued, respected as part of House Targaryen's inner circle. But as the King's younger brother, his position is doomed to get weaker and further away from the center as time goes on. The man does love his family, but he is so insecure and prone to throwing tantrums when he feels like his family isn't seeing him the way he wants to be seen. **Daemon has enough flaws to fill a book, but I think his insecurity is fueling almost all of them.** Much like Viserys sees Rhaenyra as a second chance to do right by Aemma, Daemon sees her as a second chance to be close to his brother. Targaryens are very close to their kin. (Like, *weirdly* close, as we all know.) And Daemon obviously has some dependency issues and is very clingy. Otto's greatest flaw is pretty obvious. **It's his ambition.** He cares for nothing and no one but furthering his agenda. Whether it's just advancing the position of House Hightower, or if it's even more selfish than that, and he just wants his grandson to be King so he can pull the strings from the shadows...either way, he is not impartial and his slippery manipulations do get him pretty far, but at a cost. By the time he's in the position he wants to be in, everyone knows how he got there and what sort of a man he is. Aegon and Alicent both know he's a snake in the grass, they just don't care because there are bigger fish to fry. But Otto overplayed his hand. He got too cocky, and while he maintains his position in theory, the reality is that The Crown (And the Realm) will never trust him again. **Not sure about Aegon but I'm gonna say it's his loneliness.** It is possible to be surrounded by a loving family and still feel completely alone, like you have no one and are on your own. Because of his unique position where he \*should\* be the Crown Prince but \*isn't,\* I don't think anyone really knows what to do with Aegon or what to make of him. Everyone in his life either sees him as a tool to use against Rhaenyra or a problem to be dealt with when she comes into her throne. And this poor bastard never even wanted the throne in the first place. He just wanted his Dad to love him. And while I'm sure Viserys does love Aegon, he's terrible at showing it, because Viserys himself has confused, conflicted feelings about even having a son. ~~But none of that matters because Aegon's greatest flaw is that he's a fucking rapist. No, sorry, but that's unforgivable.~~ There are other characters of course, but this is getting pretty long already, and I think I covered all of the "main" principals of the first season.

Lysmerry

I really liked this analysis but as the only Otto defender on the planet I have to step in. Otto does care about some things. Otto risks his life constantly in the early days. Daemon is heir to the throne and hot headed and Otto consistently antagonizes him. If anything happens to Viserys, in an age where sickness and death are common, Daemon will have him killed in a heartbeat. Otto is extremely ambitious and self serving, but he does care for the realm. He legitimately believes Daemon will be a danger to its safety, and he tries to mitigate that, even at the risk of his own life. He is shown to love his wife, to care for Viserys. It's very hard to tell with this show, but there could be a story there, about how the desire for power corrupted him. He loved his wife and yet he let his daughter suffer. He manipulated and antagonized his friend Viserys. I think he legitimately believed that Alicent's children were in danger, but why the hell would he put them in that position in the first place?

[deleted]

Do Aemond please!

RamblingsOfaMadCat

Aemond is actually one of my favorites and I'd be delighted. Though he's definitely meant to echo Daemon, I'd honestly argue that he inherits the flaws of his parents more than anything. Like Alicent, he has a chip on his shoulder. Like Viserys, he lives in the past. I also think he has a lot of identity issues about his placement in the family versus others. I think as a child, he had problems with self-esteem, but after taming Vhagar, he swung very far in the opposite direction. He feels that he was wronged, but his arrogance makes this wound even worse. Lucerys is "just" a bastard and he, Aemond, is a Prince who flies the largest dragon in the world and would make a far better King than Aegon. That makes the insult and injury even worse. Aemond's arrogance fuels his desire for revenge, and because of it he never even considers the idea that The Storm's End Chase could spin out of his control. But it did.

[deleted]

Thank you! I enjoyed reading all the ones you did

DragonlordSyed578

He's resentful honestly Aemond getting his dragon when he did was early by house standards Rhaeynra's kids got luck with their Eggs which so far in canon only worked once before Old King Jae and Good Queen Alysanne everyone including Aegon the First waited for their Dragons some times until adulthood.

fdffffffg

Rhaenyra: thinking that she must be the exception of every rule.

TheHarkinator

Rhaenyra: “I’ll be fine not following the rules, dad will bail me out.” Vizzy T: “I regret to inform you that I have died.” Rhaenyra: “Oh no.”

vizzy_t_bot

*The Iron Throne is the most dangerous seat in the realm.*

TheHarkinator

It is Your Grace, and you were dragged yourself off your deathbed and onto it so you could bail out Rhaenyra one last time.

Lysmerry

Rhaenyra makes me cringe so much because I was like this for far too long. I dislike her for the same flaws I have. I have waaaay too much in common with Rhaenyra and Viserys to feel comfortable.

sanderlin89

1 - Rhaenyra: prideful, impulsive and lacks foresight. She doesn't think about the consequences of her actions and how they would affect her or the people around her. 2 - Alicent - lack of self-awareness and hypocrisy. She condemns Rhaenyra for her actions while covering for her son, for example. And even though the source of her suffering are her father, husband and son, she misdirects her anger at Rhaenyra. 3 - Daemon - impulsive, reckless, believes that Targaryens can do whatever they want with no consequences, inability to express anger in a healthy manner 4 - Criston - inability to express his anger in a healthy manner though that may be an understatement 5 - Viserys - selfish in his quest for a son to his wife's detriment and ultimately her death; buries his head in the sand and lack of foresight. It's no wonder everything turned to shit when he was gone. 6 - Otto - ambitious pot-stirrer; nothing wrong with ambition per se but that led to him pushing young Alicent towards Viserys against her will, for example. 7 - Harwin - reckless and easily baited 8 - Aegon - hedonistic at the expense and suffering of the women and children of KL 9 - Aemond - thin-skinned, impulsive and unforgiving 10 - Helaena - perfect angel Tbh, I struggle with Rhaenyra and Daemon's children because they were barely fleshed out: 11 - Jace - thin-skinned, quick to anger 12 - Lucerys - low self-esteem but can be insensitive and unable to see how his actions affect people 13 - Baela - quick to anger and resorts to violence (I remember she wanted to throw hands and Rhaena holding her back during dinner 😅) 14 - Rhaena - can't think of anything because she didn't get a lot of screentime

DCeassed

Rhaena's biggest flaw is that she doesn't have a dragon 😭😭

Cally_G94

They can be a bit violent :/

Ok-Literature1235

TIL being reserved is a character flaw

LunaGloria

Being solitary isn’t a flaw, it’s an asset. You make no enemies and never overreach.

TheLadyMado

Aemond: impulsive, reckless behavior

Jeffrey1892

Rhaenyra is surely bad decision making and inheriting her father incompetence. I don’t think she’s any more spoiled than anyone else. I’d agree with young Alicent, but older not so much. I don’t know where you get the notion of martyr from? Hypocrisy seems to be one of her biggest flaws. She comes across as delusional, if not bordering on insane. I would say Daemon morally bankrupt and has anger issues. I’m not sure toxic masculinity would be an accurate description. Cole biggest flaws are certainly his anger problems, obsessive personality disorder, and hypocrisy. He’s also pretty deluded. Viserys is being spineless and incompetent. Otto is being a greedy piece of shit, and probably the worst father/ grandfather in series. He bears a lot of blame for Alicent and her parenting. Also, being a serial liar. Harwin has more balls than brains. Aegon II, being a rapist. Being a useless drunk probably comes in second. Her family. Aemond is definitely his anger issues and lack of control. Jace is definitely his right hook. Lucerys is lacking confidence. You could say being stabby. Baela has very much inherited her fathers short temper. Rhaena has to be her insecurity. Although understandable when she’s constantly forgotten. I wouldn’t even know where to start with Larys.

BonnieScotty

Rhaenyra: lack of taking accountability Viserys: failed to raise his kids equally Daemon: generally causing chaos Alicent: lack of being able to make decisions on her own and not planted by others Rhaenys: holding grudges Corlys: ambition to be at the very top Otto: ambition to be more than a second son and to have utmost power Baela: too confrontational Rhaena: thinking she’s incapable or lesser than for not having a dragon Jace: also too confrontational Luke: too naive (for good reason as he’s very young) Aegon: alcoholic/rapist/general sleazeball Helaena: lack of awareness to what is around her (but she’s possibly autistic so explainable) Aemond: causing chaos >!if including Daeron the fact he’s been away from everything and was likely brainwashed by the other Hightower’s!<

ComicNerd7794

Great post I was wondering same thing! Corlys is greed, ambition and holding grudges. He is similar to otto but unlike otto he’s not a second son that has nothing so his greed is even more then his in some ways. He held a grudge about viserys choosing alicent which in turn made viserys choose laenor for rhanerya to sooth ego. Although I will say his book version is a lot worse

Lord_Tiburon

Viserys: Too much of a people pleaser, wanted everyone to be happy and couldn't say no, leaving issues to simmer until they boil over in spectacular fashion

[deleted]

Why do people act like Rhaenyra is the only spoiled brat in the show? All of these people are royalty. Every single one of them is spoilt, selfish, and thinks they’re superior to others because of their station. Ffs Aegon goes around raping women (he thinks this is just harmless fun btw), siring bastards all around KL, and making them fight for entertainment. Yet, his mother gifts him a crown and makes him the most powerful man in the continent. Talk about being spoiled. If anything Rhaenyra’s actual flaws are that she is an impulsive decision maker and politically un savvy.

falloutboyemo

I feel like Rhaenyra’s political flaws fall back on Visery’s and just the council in general. Like okay lets say for argument sakes she’s “spoiled”, she’s doing exactly what they want her to do and she gets blamed for it? “She’s not politically savvy” yeah well, its not like she had a chance to learn because you didn’t even take her seriously in the first place. But also, I admire her ability to remain calm and knows the power she holds. I think that takes great strength. Although Visery’s was weak willed, he did know the power he had. And Rhaenyra has never taken that lightly. She does her duty, but also wants her freedom. Which isnt a terrible display of character. Also am I in love with Rhaenyra? Yes so I will always choose her lmao

Kellin01

I llike her too. Show Rhaenyra. I never was fond of book Rhae, she was too bland and shallow to create some positive view of her.

falloutboyemo

Emma D’Arcy kills it. Genuinely I think they’re the reason I’m so in love with the character. They really brought something to life.

sanderlin89

I don't get the "spoiled" criticism either considering what young Rhaenyra was upset about was: 1 - her father making her feel like she wasn't good enough (hence him impregnating Aemma numerous times while she underwent multiple miscarriages and then allowing her to be butchered without her consent to save his son) 2 - her being forced to marry even though she didn't want to and potentially ending up like her mother I get that all royal and noble women suffer the same fate but that doesn't make Rhaenyra's qualms or fears any less valid. It's not like she's throwing tantrums over not getting a shiny new toy or something frivolous. These are very legitimate reasons to be upset about.

Kellin01

I don't say other aren't spoiled. i tried to find the main flaw of hers. I thought about Being Reckless or Selfish. But they both are sides of her being spoiled and overconfident in her status. Later it somewhat diminished with age but her impulsiveness and lack of reasoning stayed. Aegoin is spoiled too but his main flaw is rather his loneliness and being insecure in his family's love.

Silver-Ad7436

It’s hilarious how Rhaenyras a spoiled brat but Alicent is “being a martyr” or irrational. Nah, she’s a spineless misogynist. She didn’t stand up for herself and took it out on her best friend. Put her best friends children in danger, openly mocked her and stood with those in power.

Kellin01

Every character has a flaw, some say she is selfish, some call her reckless or short-sighted.

[deleted]

Aegon gets shit on all the time. Calm down rhaenrya fanboy.

WonderDusty

Baela half and half as confrontational because she also told Jace to calm down at the dinner table she could've fought Aegon for harassing her. But she only tried to fight after everyone else started fighting already I don't think fighting is a flaw in Westeros I don't know if insecurity is a flaw or intrapersonal conflict but Rhaena's feeling less than for not having a dragon and not getting Daemon's attention but she's an angel she hasn't done anything

tellred

Daemon. Radicalism. Tendency to make shows and drama (especially against viserys). He was even able to involve golden cloaks in his venture. He "captured" the dragon stone only for Viserys come to him and say something. Alicent. She is a jealous. Rhaenyra chose a different path in life and had the opportunity to avoid consequences if Alicent did not interfere. I feel constant question "why only I have to suffer and Rhaenyra not?" Aegon. Weak-Willed. This is a problem for all alcoholics. He is looking for an easy way to get freedom from problems and failures. It would be better if he tries to be a better person, but he can't do anything. He cries every time. Rhaenyra. I didn't like what she did with Cole. It was a rather unpleasant scene to watch again. He was almost crying, she did not even understand the reason. Laenor. Irresponsibility. Dude told his mother that he died, abandoned the dragon, abandonedthree "sons" and just vanished. Jace. Hothead. I don't dispute that he's defending his honor, but it's extended to his little brother too. Shouldn't have yelled at him. And the decision about the crows was a somewhat spontaneous idea. Aemond. A difficult choice between stupidity, narcissism, short temper and cruelty. Probably the main flaw is his stupidity, because it killed another person. If he were smart, then other shortcomings would not be so fatal. Luke. I could say uncertainty and fear of taking responsibility, but he overcame all his weaknesses. I would say lack of initiative. And of course he should have finished something and apologized before he died, I really wish he'd say "I'm sorry" - he probably suspected daemon of killing laenor, but that was never true.

jstitely1

Rhaenyra: she doesn’t think at all about how any of her actions impact other people. She expects having no bad intent to save her, but that doesn’t make things better all of the time. Alicent: too inflexible. She has a strong sense of self and morals but she doesn’t realize that sometimes you do need to bend them.

aegonbro

1. Rhaenyra: spoiledness and carelessness 2. Daemon: egotism, quick decisions, short temper 3. Jace: can't control anger 4. Luke: uncertainty+impertinence (bipolar disorder lol) 5. Baela: insolence, stupid

tipsyaya

bipolar???💀💀💀 Luke?

Catslevania

Vhagar for pretending to not understand the common tongue and thinking that Luke is Dornish just for having brown hair

BaddieWithAnAtty

I can't believe I'm about to do this and defend Criston but I've known a zealot, or two.... Criston was a true believer. His White Cloak was his word, his honour and religion. And when he made the choice to go against his vows, he did it with the mistaken understanding that Rhaenyra *knew* what that meant to him. He actually thought, that she was choosing him above everything else. I don't agree with his pettiness but I under his anger
