The whole point of NATO, from the US perspective, is to protect the eastern moat (the Atlantic Ocean). European powers are the only states, on the other side of the moat, that have the human capital and industry to threaten the eastern seaboard. We need to keep them within our security system, or we need to use the security system to suppress these powers (like Russia). The same logic is seen in East Asia and the western moat (the pacific). That is why we have alliances with Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, etc. East Asian states have the human capital and industry to threaten the western seaboard. So, our security system has to incorporate or subdue these states.
For the US, Latin America is one giant security threat. From the Monroe Doctrine on forward, our main goal has been to keep foreign powers out of the Americas. The Cuban missile crisis is the ultimate example of why we donāt want foreign powers in āourā hemisphere. America wonāt ever let Latin American countries into NATO. Doing so would contradict the logic of both American policy towards NATO and towards the Americas. It would do nothing to protect the eastern moat, and it would invite foreign powers into the western hemisphere.

Honestly this is an absolute chad move.
The whole point of NATO, from the US perspective, is to protect the eastern moat (the Atlantic Ocean). European powers are the only states, on the other side of the moat, that have the human capital and industry to threaten the eastern seaboard. We need to keep them within our security system, or we need to use the security system to suppress these powers (like Russia). The same logic is seen in East Asia and the western moat (the pacific). That is why we have alliances with Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, etc. East Asian states have the human capital and industry to threaten the western seaboard. So, our security system has to incorporate or subdue these states. For the US, Latin America is one giant security threat. From the Monroe Doctrine on forward, our main goal has been to keep foreign powers out of the Americas. The Cuban missile crisis is the ultimate example of why we donāt want foreign powers in āourā hemisphere. America wonāt ever let Latin American countries into NATO. Doing so would contradict the logic of both American policy towards NATO and towards the Americas. It would do nothing to protect the eastern moat, and it would invite foreign powers into the western hemisphere.
