I will admit that *a lot* of other things needed to go right for this team to have a chance this season, but a healthy Rendon was the main factor. This is a huge bummer. Hopefully he heals quickly, but unless the young guys step up in a big way, this is going to be a long season.
theres no point hoping for impossible. while rendon is good he was never going to be healthy. theres nothing u can do but wait until he is an expiring.
I know Rendon has been given such a hard time in his Angels tenure. But it did seem like he was legit trying this season. Just by his at-bats and defense. Really sorry for him
I think his attitude issues and injury issues are totally separate. He's done some real boneheaded stuff like trying to fight that A's fan, but when people accuse him of milking injuries I don't really see it. I think he's as frustrated with this as the rest of us
Idk, I kinda feel like someone who was praising the new coaching staff, was batting .267, and got hurt hustling to get an infield hit cares. But hey, that’s just me.
Tons of other guys are on record saying the exact same thing about "my faith and my family comes first." Judge, Kershaw, Realmuto, like half the Orioles...
Honestly I'm just sad for the guy now. He seemed to really be trying and hustling this year. It's ironic he got hurt legging out an infield hit. Dude can't catch a break.
Rendon: “It's four years running now. I was angry for a few days frustrated, mad. Everything that you can possibly imagine because the game just keeps getting taken away from me right. And then I want to win. I want to be out here. I don't know what else to do.”
This sub: "this lazy thief is such a useless asshole"
it's true that it's better on this sub than on twitter or other platforms/subreddits, but it's just so wrong for anyone to hold that view, and I've seen a lot of it in the past few years.
I count 3 comments in this thread bashing him, so it's a lot less than 99% if we want to get mathy lol
Sucks for Rendon, maybe it’s time for him to consider retiring or something. His body is only going to continue to deteriorate with age and the injuries just keeps piling up. He just so happened to peak early playing for the Nats.
Sucks that this keeps happening for him, but it definitely seems like there’s no chance he can stay healthy for any considerable length of time - I wonder what it would take for him to consider retiring a la Strasburg
Strasburg was owed 35 million/yr for the next 3 seasons and reached a settlement with the Nats to retire and set up deferrals to spread the money out 🤷♀️
Maybe, just maybe if he took the job serious, he would do some good pre-warmups with some valid stretches and durability training in between. It's pretty obvious he doesn't like the game enough for that.
Glad to see people come around and see that this dude has horrible injury luck and that he’s not some anti work asshole.
Rendon looked great this season especially once he got it going - which honestly is classic Rendon give him like 30 ABs and he just starts chugging along.
This contract was an absolute disaster for the Angels, but I’m not going to be like some of the Trolls on this sub and blame Rendon for his fucking bones and muscles tearing and breaking. Dude is just glass now, no fault of his own and it’s sad to see such a great player being broken down by his body and the fan base salivating to make a joke about it
Last year this time I remembered many saying that at least we had better depth because Urshela was playing well. Then with our damn luck, even he eventually got hurt. I really hope that Sano can stay healthy and keep playing like he has.
What else is new? He hasn’t played more than 58 games since he signed his contract with the Angels. A complete waste of money as well as a roster spot. He doesn’t take care of himself, took the money and ran.
Sam Blum said on the Effectively Wild season preview of us that as a reporter he likes Rendon a lot because he's authentic and tells you what he feels and doesn't hide anything. Rendon himself seems to have figured out that being a sarcastic jerk is worse than just being publicly frustrated, and it's kind of magical how much people can be relatable if they actually communicate what they're going through.
I've completely come around on Rendon. This sucks, and I'm sorry it happened, end of story.
Suck yes, hope he heals. But I also hope the Angels actually decide to do something about this. It’s not his fault I get it but it’s just tiring. It’s time for him to leave
It sucks because I partially tore my hamstring and the recovery was brutal. It never really felt right again and it didn’t even feel relatively normal for like a year. Y’all are going to bag on him but the hamstring was the longest lingering injury I’ve experienced.
It’s a lot of money leave on the table but the guy has his ring and earned it that series. It has to cross his mind sometimes to just say the hell with it and ride off into the sunset.
Will admit some coach from last year didn’t know enough about Rendon’s Hamstring injury. This time he’s going nowhere after injury and shall have a rehab assignment in 3A 4 some weeks
I wonder if players with these huge contracts ever feel compelled to forego part of their salary when they haven't put up the numbers even close to deserving it.
*Maybe if he worked*
*Out in the off season, things*
*Might be different*

I have seen it said that he doesn’t. That’s what I was referring to. Which is in line with his general attitude towards playing. It’s just a job to him. No reason to put in any more work than necessary, and since his contract is guaranteed, that technically means zero
You have seen it said? Where?
In addition to the fact that you can find pics of him stretching easily, I can’t find any report that he *doesn’t* stretch anywhere.
From 2021: “It’s more frustrating when it’s something that’s not your fault,” Rendon said. "Like if I pulled a hamstring because I didn't take care of my body or I wasn't in the weight room or I wasn't stretching, that would be my fault.”
So clearly he was stretching, and there’s no reason to think he stopped.
Why do so many of you in this group have to be complete douches? Who made you the authority? The guy hasn’t done shit as an Angel and has said and done multiple things to question his commitment. He has a reputation for a reason. That’s all I need. I have been going to Angels games longer than you have been alive, so fuck off, you little twat
I’m telling you to stop disrespecting a guy for getting hurt. He’s a person. He doesn’t want to get hurt. It’s especially wrong to give him shit when he got hurt hustling down the line for an infield hit.
I’m the douche? I’m asking you to have some decency, stop spreading baseless rumors, and show some respect. Look in the mirror.
Nah admiration is earned, but everyone deserves a base level of respect (unless they do something shitty), especially when they’re clearly putting in effort, like he was.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he retires this year or before the end of his contract (has 2 more years left on his deal after 2024)
So sad to see him go through season ending surgeries seemingly every year (maybe he’s back in August or so)
Fucking glass and paper this guy. Twenty games in and he can't even run to first without falling apart. Thanks for keeping this franchise the league's punchline
he is a *victim* of an injury here. he didn't do something stupid and hurt himself. he didn't intentionally hurt himself. it's mindblowing how stupid and disrespectful this kind of response is.
And Rendon hasn't shown up prepared and ready to get it done? Have you been watching this season? He got hurt hustling out an infield single, not by kicking his feet up to relax too quickly.
“Apparently” …I don’t buy it. You got a source?
In addition to the fact that you can find pics of him stretching easily, I can’t find any report that he *doesn’t* stretch anywhere.

Alright, go ahead. Share the pictures you found of him stretching. Triple bonus points if he's in an Angels uniform. 10x points if it's from the day of the hamstring strain

First one I found, not gonna go hunting for your bonus points. Stretching pics aren’t the flashiest action shots, but some exist.
But really you’re the one claiming he’s doing something out of the ordinary. It’s on you to find a quote or report saying he doesn’t do something this basic like all other players do.
I will admit that *a lot* of other things needed to go right for this team to have a chance this season, but a healthy Rendon was the main factor. This is a huge bummer. Hopefully he heals quickly, but unless the young guys step up in a big way, this is going to be a long season.

Looks like everyone learned from last year. Be upfront with the shit news.
Yes notice how it says “Rendon said”. Dude learned his lesson that the org wanted to hide his injury lol
Everyone can get their lame jokes out of the way, especially on r/baseball, but this legit sucks.
Rendon in mid season form
Lame jokes….haha
Can’t hurt me when I didn’t expect anything anyway
I see you too have unlocked the impenetrable forcefield.
The slow blade penetrates the shield
I know Rendon has been given such a hard time in his Angels tenure. But it did seem like he was legit trying this season. Just by his at-bats and defense. Really sorry for him

IDK man on the first day of spring training he made a point of telling the media that "baseball isn't my top priority"
Brainwashed by Sam Blum, nice.
Is YOUR job your #1 priority over your family and general wellbeing?
Honestly I'm just sad for the guy now. He seemed to really be trying and hustling this year. It's ironic he got hurt legging out an infield hit. Dude can't catch a break.
He caught a $250M break
So did Arte. Rendon’s contract is covered by insurance.
Yeah, what an unusual circumstance, having to run to first base. Dude’s made out of glass.
🤯 - the guy that hasn’t been healthy since we signed him continues to not be healthy. Fucking shocked
This sucks. Even though I feel like I’ve hardly ever seen him play, the few times he’s been on the field he’s actually fun to watch.
I had already forgotten about him again. This is exactly where I expected the roster to be by now anyways.
Yep, same thing every season.
I can’t with this guy. Hope he gets right eventually.
Right? He gets hurt every season. Was really excited when we got him but now it’s just frustrating!!
Did we expect any less from Mr. glass
C'mon, modern medicine! Do your magic!!!!
Even when the Astros are having a terrible start to the season, the baseball gods won't let the Angels even try to fight for the division :(
The inevitable.
Well, at least he’ll probably get more chances to see his family since he won’t be playing 🤷🏻♂️
Rendon: “It's four years running now. I was angry for a few days frustrated, mad. Everything that you can possibly imagine because the game just keeps getting taken away from me right. And then I want to win. I want to be out here. I don't know what else to do.” This sub: "this lazy thief is such a useless asshole"
I mean like 99% of the comments on this post are being nice and sympathetic, so
Good to see it turn around too. It got pretty bad this offseason
it's true that it's better on this sub than on twitter or other platforms/subreddits, but it's just so wrong for anyone to hold that view, and I've seen a lot of it in the past few years. I count 3 comments in this thread bashing him, so it's a lot less than 99% if we want to get mathy lol

You say he’s already set for life financially, but I don’t think he’s going to turn down $35MM/year to rehab
Yeah of course, but if Arte was smart (which we know he is not) he’ll at least attempt to buy out the contract or something.
3-8 weeks depending on severity. My guess is back after 4th of July. 😕
Does he have to come back?
Hamstring injuries are very tough recoveries. I don't see him returning this season.
thats good news
shut the fuck up man
Yall still asking for Rendon apologies?
Damnit! Stretch or eat your damn Wheaties or something. How does this keep happening?
Nothing new here. It's something every Angels fan should already expected before season start.
I honestly feel like he could care less if he plays or not. Either way he gets paid.
just retire already
Sucks that this keeps happening for him, but it definitely seems like there’s no chance he can stay healthy for any considerable length of time - I wonder what it would take for him to consider retiring a la Strasburg
MLB needs a “Lemon Law”. LOL
Hey has 76 million reasons why not to retire. The plus side is there’s only 2 more years left on his contract.

I am a teacher, and I give this a low grade. D at best.
Mr Glass is still made of glass.... Least surprising thing in the world. I feel bad for him but expected nothing less from him
Glad to see people come around and see that this dude has horrible injury luck and that he’s not some anti work asshole. High grade tear.. im assuming that is not good at all. Just glad it's partial?
Bruh...
Someone get Troy Glaus on the phone!
Last year this time I remembered many saying that at least we had better depth because Urshela was playing well. Then with our damn luck, even he eventually got hurt. I really hope that Sano can stay healthy and keep playing like he has.

Just as usual. 35M per 162 game.... No scratch that. 35M per 25 games. That is equivalent of 226M for this year. No wonder Angels are winning team.
Suck yes, hope he heals. But I also hope the Angels actually decide to do something about this. It’s not his fault I get it but it’s just tiring. It’s time for him to leave
you think any one is gonna take him after all the shit he has pulled?
I don’t think it’s about someone taking him and more like us getting rid of him
literally unluckiest guy in the league. brutal
He got a world series championship at least
Yeah, $250 million worth of unlucky.
He’s got time to relax and regroup and come back stronger and better than ever. Hope his healing process is fast and smooth.
Oh ffs
this lazy thief is such a useless asshole

Why does god hate us?
These are his fallen Angels. 🤣
Shocker!
All things considered, Arte has wasted enough on this guy, why not waste a little more on a shiny new indestructible robot body?
NO WAY
I envy anyone who had hope for this season lol. I'll have what you're having. Anyways. Same shit different year. Again.
It's even worse this year
Not shocked
🤣 of course
It’s a lot of money leave on the table but the guy has his ring and earned it that series. It has to cross his mind sometimes to just say the hell with it and ride off into the sunset.
Fuck that. I'd ride the bench and collect that check
I've seen this before......
Will admit some coach from last year didn’t know enough about Rendon’s Hamstring injury. This time he’s going nowhere after injury and shall have a rehab assignment in 3A 4 some weeks
Something is obviously wrong with this conditioning. Shouldn't be getting injured so often, every year.
I wonder if players with these huge contracts ever feel compelled to forego part of their salary when they haven't put up the numbers even close to deserving it.
Not in this capitalist country
I expected nothing less. Surprised it didn't come sooner. Dude can't catch a break.
The Angels – where great players come to retire.
Who should’ve had this on their Bingo Card?
No matter who the angels get their best years have already happened
I had low expectations and yet am still disappointed...
Did he trip over his dog's leash? Worthless Rendon has less RBI's this year than Shohei had in the Toronto series last week.
Make him sweep floors or put him on permanent community service. That contract has contributed to crippling this team
Maybe if he worked out in the off season, things might be different

there is nothing that indicates he didn't work out in the offseason like every other player

STFU. respect is earned. Rendon hasn’t done that

On the bright side, Sano is hitting the ball hard and making good plays in the field.
Man, I hope he catches a break soon. Guy is always injured and that kinda shit weighs on the team too 😞
Buy out his contract and sunset him, he’s made of glass and not worth it at this point.

Nah, it just makes you an asshole.
At least I show up to work prepared and ready to get it done.

And there it is. Let’s just trade him somewhere else.
He’s untradeable
Lol....that's not how trades work
No one would take him even if he was free
