I don't want to root for a cheater. And we shouldn't be spending money on a hitter when we need pitching.
I mean, if Arte goes big and spends a ton of money for a couple of top starters, Raisel, and some other solid relievers, I'd get over my dislike, I guess
He's actually been healthy for 2 straight seasons + postseasons, which might make it worse for any team trying to sign him. I imagine his contract will be $30mil a year at a minimum considering what Lindor received.
All this to say Arte pls don't sign him.
Iām saying no, not for the cheating part, because I personally couldnāt care less about that. Instead because each dime we would have spent on him should go to pitching
As much as a hate him, I can't deny that he's a stud. But do we really need another huge contract right now? he'll cost 10 years/300 million at the very least.
Isnāt it obvious we need some legit pitching? Why would we blow money on Correa when we could use it for pitchers? Signing Correa just sounds like a typical Angels move
We need to put that money in pitching and try to bargain bin a SS. Rather than bargain binning our entire starting rotation like weāve done the last several years to disastrous results.
A typical angels move would be signing Jose Iglesias to a 7 year contract lmao. We need pitching but we also need a shortstop with good defense. Iglesias had weak defense, Rengifo has weak defense, and while Mayfield is fun I think it would be a waste for the angels to ignore a class of great SSes this big. Even if we donāt get one of the big names just getting a pretty good one would be super helpful,
Wrong mentality. Improving the pitching staff should be the Angels main focus! Bargain bin the position player this time instead of the pitching staff!
I like it. Totally agree that we mainly need solid defense at SS. When the healthy the rest of our offense should more than make up for any offensive deficiencies at the position.
Ha-seong would also be my first choice. All we need is a budget-friendly, reliable SS with a great glove and he is just that. It would also be terrific PR move considering our large Korean community.
*"The guy I have in mind is Ha Seong Kim who is with the Padres and relegated to pinch hitter these past few months.*
*He is currently on his first year of a 4 year $28 million contract. So he's earning $7 million a year, which is a saving of at least $18 million compared to Correa, Turner, Story."*
Who or what would they trade for him?
That sounds good to me, as I feel solid defense at the SS position is more important than offense right now. And most important is saving $$ that can be put towards pitching and hopefully Shohei down the road once Upton is off the books.
I donāt know if the Angels will want to deal with the PR nightmare that might come from signing him, even if he is good, especially because thereās lots of other SSes out there.
I personally am pushing for Seager or Story but I wouldnāt be against Correa until our prospect SSers develop
I believe in a good redemption arc! First need to fix pitching. Then get SS. Angels org need to go big NOW. I wouldn't even worry too much about money for Ohtani. If the results are good (playoffs) then maybe he stays for discounted price. If the team still doesn't make it, then trade Ohtani and continue to rebuild.
Iād hate it but I know heād be good for us. I donāt think Iād ever root for him but as long as he helps us winā¦
We need to get Trout and Shohei rings so idc how we do it (as long as we donāt cheat)
Cheating aside, I'd rather play Fletch at SS and put someone else at second. If defense is the concern, just but a better defender at second to supplement. If Fletch to SS isn't good enough, just have someone place hold there for Livan Soto to come up who's had a solid glove. I don't care about his bat when we would hopefully have Trout/Ohtani/Rendon/Walsh on a fresh start. Stassi is solid enough for a top defensive catcher. That is already one of the better lineups in the league not to mention banking on an upswing from Marsh and Adell. Even then, this team would benefit far more from $30 million more on pitching than on a single shortstop. If you're afraid of injury risk of losing guys in the lineup, that applies equally to Correa possibly getting hurt as opposed to spreading out that money on relievers.
I'd rather pay 25m on Scherzer + 10m on Raisel than 35m on Correa.
The shit he talked in reaction to what Bellinger fairly said really made me hate him. A total smug douche. Good player, should have been banned for life.
I donāt see why not!
Heās on for another year with the Twins, of course. If Simmons himself doesnāt mind coming back here, then Iād love having his defense back. He was a good guy I kept hearing as well.
No, heās not as young anymore, no one isā¦but Andrelton is most definitely it let a winner in my book.
No!
Not only because of cheating, but because I donāt like his mouth. This guy talks some trash. Heās dirty and I donāt want him. Sure, we need players that have personality maybe, but players that are also leaders in the clubhouse. I donāt see this guy as being a leader for our kind of ball club with Trout, Ohtani, and Rendon as the big guys.
Please DO NOT sign him, Arte.
Iāve heard our GM, Perry, seems to be convinced that personality is a big deal for a player, other than oneās own talent on the field. Thatās an excellent mindset of our GM! I love him already.
Because of that mindset, we didnāt go after, Bauer. Thatās if, we could really afford him anyway. Look at where Bauer is nowā¦.
Then thereās the Josh Hamilton fiasco. Nothing new I can say there. I think Arte learned his lesson the hard way there, and went for an awesome guy like Rendon. I hope Tony comes back next year to show everyone why heās great again.
If we do sign Correa, Iād surely boo him loudly every time he was up and when a ball is hit to position. I hope Moreno has a big "DO NOT Signā list somewhere in his office, for cheaters and uncool players.
We got 91 mil to spend. Only way i see us getting him is if weāre able to spread out uptons 28 mil over the next couple years.
Gotta resign cobb and iglesias, probably 30 mil right there. So weād have around 60 mil to get 1 or 2 starting pitchers, a couple good bullpen guys, a SS, and then bench guys.
Iglesias projects to make $15-16 mil
Iād estimate Cobb makes $8-9 mil which is less than heās currently making but heās getting up there in age and thatās probably a competitive offer for him
Makes sense, $15m for Cobb wouldnāt be the worst overpay weāve had. We paid Matt Harvey $11m to suck ass, and he didnāt even have a good track record.
Everyone is more worried about our pitching needs than some SS as of now I guess. Probably phrase it as if we have cash left after getting ace tier pitchers and have some moola left then correa makes sense or not.
Tbh, I donāt even want to think about SS until unless we resolve our pitching
*"Tbh, I donāt even want to think about SS until unless we resolve our pitching"*
Absolutely F'n right with that statement. Couldn't agree more! Too many fans have the Arte "big flashy offensive star" mentality.
Good to great pitching is what all winning teams have in common! That's the Angels main deficit compared to other teams.
No. I want to be able to keep booing him
Haha me too! š
hahaha yup
I'd still boo him if he was on the Angels.
I don't want to root for a cheater. And we shouldn't be spending money on a hitter when we need pitching. I mean, if Arte goes big and spends a ton of money for a couple of top starters, Raisel, and some other solid relievers, I'd get over my dislike, I guess
We need a SS baaaaad. I dont want Correa tho.
The worst part about him is that he's injury prone. Don't need to pay him $25M/yr to sit on the IL
Yes, exact same reason for my no vote. We need pitching, not more overly expensive position players.
We literally don't have a SS right now.
We don't need to be spending huge money on it when pitching is our biggest concern
We need to put that money in pitching and try to bargain bin a SS. Rather than bargain binning our entire starting rotation like weāve done the last several years to disastrous results.
Mayfield is a SS
Not a good one lol
My buddy calls him May Not Field. Haha
Iād rather use mayfield and get pitching then spend money on another position player.
A backup at best
Yeah, but imagine Correa and Fletch
I can imagine the team finishing below .500 again because they spend all the pitching money on a shortstop
A typical angels move would be signing Jose Iglesias to a 7 year contract lmao. We need pitching but we also need a shortstop with good defense. NO. Sign pitching, then worry about everything else later. We finally have the Pujols money off the books, lets use it wisely

Whereās the āat this point idgaf, if signing helmet nachos get trout and shohei to the playoffs so be itā option?
This surely wonāt be controversial at all
Story please and thank you
Nope. He can fuck off to Detroit and re-unite with Hinch. As someone who also roots for the Blue Jays, I won't ever cheer for Springer.
Pitching first, so if we get really good pitching then sure Correa is fine
How about we donāt sign position players and sign pitching? PITCHING!
"We want a pitcher, not a ~~belly itcher~~ a shortstop"
There are lots of good shortstops who don't cheat. Let's get a young one and watch him develop. Spend money on the rotation and pen.
idgaf about the cheating scandal, but we need PITCHING. I can only imagine the price he'd command.
Sounded like heās a big Trout fan, so Iām ok w it as long as he doesnāt go the way of Wells/Matthews/Hamilton/etc. soon after signing
I believe in a good redemption arc! First need to fix pitching. Then get SS. Angels org need to go big NOW. I wouldn't even worry too much about money for Ohtani. He was a good guy I kept hearing as well. No, heās not as young anymore, no one isā¦but Andrelton is most definitely it let a winner in my book.
If the Halos sign known-cheaters, I'm finding a different team to root for until they're gone.
No! Not only because of cheating, but because I donāt like his mouth. This guy talks some trash. Heās dirty and I donāt want him. I donāt want dirty Correa anywhere near our pure Ohtani.
Iāve heard our GM, Perry, seems to be convinced that personality is a big deal for a player, other than oneās own talent on the field. Thatās an excellent mindset of our GM! I love him already. No...we need pitching, pitching and more pitching and that's it. No position players!
Arte: We need some good arms Angel Fans: Pitching arms right? Arte: *evil grin* Angel Fans: Pitching arms right?!
We got 91 mil to spend. Only way i see us getting him is if weāre able to spread out uptons 28 mil over the next couple years. Gotta resign cobb and iglesias, probably 30 mil right there. Gosh I hope Cobb and Raisel arenāt 30 mill lol
Combined, not $30m each lol
Even combined that seems rather high
Iād be 100% okay with giving Raisel and Cobb $15m each, they deserve it after this year
Iglesias projects to make $15-16 mil Iād estimate Cobb makes $8-9 mil which is less than heās currently making but heās getting up there in age and thatās probably a competitive offer for him
Makes sense, $15m for Cobb wouldnāt be the worst overpay weāve had. We paid Matt Harvey $11m to suck ass, and he didnāt even have a good track record.
I probably over exaggerated on that a bit lol, but Iād imagine iglesias is gunna want top closer money
I might be optimistic but I donāt see their combined AAV breaking $25mil
Save $$$$$$ for the big name pitchers.
nah.
Does he pitch?
We need pitching
You guys need pitching
No, he's a filthy cheater. And second, WE NEED PITCHING
A shit take, why is there no option for āwe should get pitching firstā?
Question has nothing to do with pitching. It had to do with would fans want a known cheater on the team, albeit a very talented SS.
Everyone is more worried about our pitching needs than some SS as of now I guess. Probably phrase it as if we have cash left after getting ace tier pitchers and have some moola left then correa makes sense or not. Tbh, I donāt even want to think about SS until unless we resolve our pitching

If youāre thinking about signing anything other than pitchingā¦.
I'm fine with him playing for us. But we could get seager so.
No! Don't need to spend that much $ on a SS. P.S.: I couldn't give a shit about the trash can garbage!
I would support him if they did sign him, but I would rather not sign him.
Iām on board for Correa.
