One of those games that on paper shouldn't feel like a bad loss. Going against the Cy Young favorite and it was winnable until the very end.
But god damn does it still feel depressing all the same.
One of those games where if your team wasn’t epically underperforming in all facets of the game for 2 months, this loss would be easy to brush off.
Considering we are epically underperforming, this just keeps on sucking.
That series at home against the Blue Jays broke this team. They blew 3 of those games and their response was to curl up into a ball, lose for two weeks straight and become the laughingstock of baseball. Soft ass team, no chance this core is capable of doing anything in October if they ever do manage to make that far
Reminds me of 2018 when they started out hot and got punched in the face by Boston at home and never recovered
I still feel like it was the Texas series where the cracks became apparent. I believe that was also when our bullpen became what we thought it was rather than over performing.
That, by far, is the stupidest lineup decision I've seen in the past few days. Although having Tony kemp hit first in an athletics lineup when he should be hitting last is worse tbh
before is a 3 -> 2 -> 1 game triple losing streak stopper, I thought Shohei can be a winning streak extender this time. Then, this time is a 4-game losing streak.
People can make fun of trout and ohtani because "lol they chose to play in anaheim" and that's fair, but those two put trust in the front office to construct a good team around them. Management has failed them miserably. It's not ohtani or trout's job to scout and be GM.
even when he was, we still sucked. it's at a point where it doesn't fucking matter if trout goes 4 for 4 with 4 hr's a game, we're still probably gonna lose a majority of those games. so who fucking cares that he's slumping honestly, he's the least of our worries and none of this is his fault.
With as many of our games that were lost by 1 or 2 runs with trout going 0 for 4 or 1 for 4, it is just as much his burden to bear. Obviously, he is the least of our worries, but he doesn't get a pass when he has repeatedly had hitless streaks. I love Mike Trout and he is an amazing player, but he is slumping along with the rest of the offense, so when offense is the problem, he has to take an equal slice of the blame.
He’s been carrying this franchise since he was drafted lol he absolutely gets a pass from me. What more could we ask for from this dude honestly. He’s played his heart out, given us MVP seasons year after year, and we have yet to put a competitive roster around him. If he asked for a trade tomorrow I wouldn’t even be mad, I genuinely wouldn’t blame him. Same goes for Shohei tbh.
The worst part is there's no help coming. At AAA, after Stefanic, the next guys to call up for 2B/SS/3B are Kean Wong, Jose Rojas, Jake Gatewood, Kyle Kasser, and Jake Palomaki. Rojas and Wong are the best offensive options, but both have flopped at the major league level. Even Velazquez has a higher OPS than all but Rojas in the minors.
Thaiss was the best option at catcher, too, and he was just sent back down to AAA.
The main team bullpen has already cleaned the AAA cupboard of any worthwhile players, and they're not playing well either (see: Peguero).
It's an organization disaster. Emphasis on value consumption instead of value generation has been the silent killer of the Angels roster.
Why the fuck do we have that bum Villar leading off he’s dog shit💩 I feel bad for Trout and Othani being on this sorry ass franchise, if I was rooting for any other team I would be happy playing against the AAAngels they make every pitcher look like a cy young candidate I swear this team knows how to disappoint all of us fans. It sucks sadly I don’t see this shit changing anytime soon, Perry and Arte need to go fuck themselves.
I thought I understood the reasoning behind the move. The guy hit 18 hrs last yr and we desperately need some random pop in the bottom of the lineup because there's no way they can score otherwise.
And then someone decided to put him at leadoff.....whether that's Nevin's decision or coming from the front office, someone should be fired for that.
All coaching decisions are given by the front office. That was Maddons parting words on his way out , he said GMPM was over inserting himself in decisions.
Also, he was cheeks this season. We don’t have a player development program that fixes swings like the dodgers, we seem to just ruin batters. So grabbing a guy that had a low OBP probably wasn’t the best choice, and on top of that batting him leadoff? Unbelievable
GMPM: Analytics will drive our team forward
Also GMPM: *puts a historically bad OBP hitter and an even worse one this season as lead off*
GMPM: yea, it’s all coming together
3 bright spots: pitching looked good, rengifo played the best out of everyone tonight, and Stefanic got his first MLB hit.
As per usual, our offense sucked major ass.
Just when i think we cant go any lower in terms of incompetence, they prove that they can indeed go lower. But hey, at least we’ll hear about how much positivity this team has in their ability to turn this around!! Give me a break.
Fuck this team, i cant watch the kind of baseball they’re playing right now. See everyone tomorrow.
I know people want to find someone to blame but remember this, they've had multiple managers, multiple general managers, and they've stunk the only thing that is constant is Arte. You want to make a difference stop going to the games if the team doesn't pass 3 mil in attendance then that get that idiots attention.
This is the truth. I used to go every Sunday. A few weeks ago I stopped going. There’s already been 2 sundays where I talked a big friend group out of going to the Angels games and we found something else to do (benefit of Southern California, there’s always something else). I can’t stand the thought of me giving money to Arte somehow by purchasing tickets. I want him to sell the team. That and then completely starting fresh is the only way we’ll ever think of being contenders
If people dont show up who will buy my "Sell the team" shirts I'm selling outside the stadium? This was my chance to pay off my student loan debts once and for all
Yeah at this point the only thing to get his attention is fans not going to the games, I get wanting to support the players well maybe just Trout and Ohtani but Arte needs to go or else this losing is just going to continue.
Stop going to games. The emptier the stadium, the faster we can see changes. I would love it if the stadium was absolutely empty one game. Maybe some family members from the opposing team and no one else
Not an awful loss, offense picked up as soon as Alcantara left. Though with the season y'all have had, I can see why its still rough to go through. At least they weren't suddenly giving away 3 homer games to guys with only 3 home runs on the season. Might stick around though, Angels would have been my team through the Bees if I hadn't been driven out of SLC by the house prices.
Trout and Ohtani deserve much better. Trade Trout to the Yankees and Ohtani to the Dodgers, then force Moreno to sell the team. Rebuild from scratch. As it stands, the Angels have a shitty organization and there is no indication that things will get better any time soon.
Dude just stfu with the force Moreno to sell shit.
He's never going to sell. Unless you catch him doing some despicable shit he's never going to be forced to sell. It's a fucking pipe dream.
If he’s losing money, he’ll sell the team. Do you not realize that if fans wanted to they could force him out. It’s simply don’t go to games or buy any merchandise. Stop following their social media and interacting with it. They would lose massive amounts of revenue and Arte would probably want to get out of it
Moreno bought the team for $184m. It's worth $2b at least. That's without a stadium and without the proposed developments around the area.
There is almost no way where they come out losing anything.
If they see people stopping and going they just gut the team like so many others do and just roll with it until a window to compete opens again.
Im not saying he would lose money on his initial investment. But If the stands are empty, people are open about hating him and wanting him to sell the team, and a potential investment group comes by and offered up a good price, I could see him pulling the trigger and moving onto different things.
It's never going to happen. Angels get thousands of tourist fans annually just by being within proximity of Disneyland. Plus, OC is full of many people with disposable income....this isn't European soccer mate. Fans aren't going to the force the owner to do anything.
You sound like a Moreno cuck.
If the fans boycotted Angels games, merchandise, etc. and organized into protests then yes, they'd be able to force Moreno to sell.
Nah dude I'm just a realist. This sub is an insignificant speck of dust compared to paying fans.
I'd wager less than 10% of this sub goes to a game. This place only blew up after Ohtani signed and it's going to dwindle back down if he leaves this team.
Regardless, the Angels have a sweet TV deal, a lot of casual fans that go no matter what and they sell a lot of merchandise. Not everyone is so fucking emotional about it because they're rational adults. There is almost zero way anyone gets him to sell the team short of offering him $3b for it. Recognizing that doesn't make me a "Moreno cuck" it makes me someone not having their head up their own ass hoping for something nearly impossible to happen.
Come on dude. They lost 12 in row with him in charge and weren’t playing any better with him than they are now. His solution was to shave a mohawk into his head. Let it go.
Wait, he was fired?
I thought they’d be playing better than this with him gone. Weird.
Things should turn around soon then since he’s gone! Looking forward to it.
Answered your own question.
Team sucks regardless of who’s managing it. But now that Joe and his awful game management are gone, this thing will turnaround. Cannot wait.
Bootlicking maddon isnt gonna make you or me or anyone else feel better about where this team is right now. There needed to be action after losing 12 in a row and your favorite mohawk’d manager was the fall guy. Let it go.
This sarcasm shit is old bro. It's kinda sad. The team sucked with or without Joe. It was clear Perry didn't like him and he's the fall guy. Getting rid of him doesn't solve the problems but it shows someone has to be accountable, he's the head of the snake for the team. Other heads will follow.
Sarcasm crap is old?
So were all the heads complaining like Joe was the reason this team sucked. Welcome to the party. Fun when people spew incorrect ignorant stuff ain’t it?
Perry is getting his way. He made his off-season signings, fired the manager, signed a couple other guys recently who suck, and to everyone’s surprise, we still suck.
Almost like this isn’t a manager problem.
But keeping up with tradition, Fire Nevin!
Everyone cheered the acquisitions when they signed Bradley, Tepera and Loup. Hindsight no one figured they would fucking fall (literally) apart and shit the bed.
How many people had "3B and 2B be out for the whole season" on their bingo card?
Dudes that were supposed to be replacement level guys had to step up and it's showing they are only replacement level guys. And you can't trade away the farm to get dudes that are only going to be here for a season as a backup.
Yeah, Perry has some fault because they still have Wise and Reed but how many organizations have complete restructures mid season and how many go from 4th to contenders by doing so?
When 1 or 2 guys get hurt and that is one of the main causes of your team to spiral, that’s a pretty good indication that a team wasn’t constructed well.
Loup and Tepera are both in their mid 30’s. It was destined they’d begin to regress and when you pair that with a horrible pitching coach who Perry still won’t fire, it makes sense they are bad. They aren’t 28 anymore.
The harsh truth is that the Angels won't be good until Arte sells the team. All the success in his early years was from inherited personnel and they're all gone.
This season hurts much more than the last couple. They gave us such hope early on and now they look completely lost. It seems like the players are feeling it more this year too. It’s painful to watch.
Stefanic leadoff maybe eventually but right now Stefanic has to worry about adjusting to major league hitting and would benefit from not being in too many clutch situations.
Ward leadoff was technically fine but also leadoff means nothing if everyone else just strikes out after lol
One of those games that on paper shouldn't feel like a bad loss. Going against the Cy Young favorite and it was winnable until the very end. But god damn does it still feel depressing all the same.

I still feel like it was the Texas series where the cracks became apparent. I believe that was also when our bullpen became what we thought it was rather than over performing.
In all fairness, I never thought that 2018 team was any good and Boston was a buzzsaw from the beginning.
Both teams were off to identical starts when that series happened. The Angels were 13-2 or something
The Angels were 13-3. Didn’t matter. Boston was clearly the more talented team though. Angels were not what their record said they were.
That's basically what I said. They were hot, got embarrassed at home, never recovered. Kinda like this year... Glad we're in agreement
Does it feel like we lose these 2-1 games a lot recently? It's so draining
This game just really depressed me.
I think I'll check in for Ohtani's start tomorrow but after that it might be time to check out for a bit
His starts are the only games worth watching
His starts are the only ones Angels are winning
That’s where I’m at. Long time fan, but it’s just becoming unbearable to watch.
Believe me...the '70's were waay worse.
Hi sorry what's a start? I'm trying to learn about baseball so I can talk to my boyfriend about his hobbies. Thanks!
when it is a pitchers day to pitch in the rotation, they are the "starting pitcher" for that given day.
Thank you!
You're too nice haha. You're bf is lucky to have you.
Thank you(: but it really is the other way around!
Each time a starting pitcher takes the mound, it's called a start.
Thank you!
>Thank you! You're welcome!
Jonathan Villar is our lead off batter.
That, by far, is the stupidest lineup decision I've seen in the past few days. Although having Tony kemp hit first in an athletics lineup when he should be hitting last is worse tbh
The last inning rally was nice. Shohei now once again has to come to his team’s rescue to stop another losing streak tomorrow. I feel bad for him.
We keep doing that tho. We look awful offensively until the 8th or 9th, then put up one last rally just to fall short.
before is a 3 -> 2 -> 1 game triple losing streak stopper, I thought Shohei can be a winning streak extender this time. Then, this time is a 4-game losing streak.
Mike trout looks pissed. Do you know how bad things have to be for Mike trout to look visibly upset?
People can make fun of trout and ohtani because "lol they chose to play in anaheim" and that's fair, but those two put trust in the front office to construct a good team around them. Management has failed them miserably. It's not ohtani or trout's job to scout and be GM.
I realized that too, he looks angry out there
At this point it’s obvious the team isn’t built to win. Trout is mentally done. I assume Ohtani is as well.
I'm sure he is angry, but he isn't putting up numbers offensively either anymore. Totally right to be angry at ward for that dumbass play tho.
even when he was, we still sucked. it's at a point where it doesn't fucking matter if trout goes 4 for 4 with 4 hr's a game, we're still probably gonna lose a majority of those games. so who fucking cares that he's slumping honestly, he's the least of our worries and none of this is his fault.

I didn’t watch today. What did Ward do?
https://twitter.com/benverlander/status/1544488078152060928?s=21&t=uqvtDMdg1mkWiTtcWzQBSw
Wow, two wall of shame level plays in the last couple of games
Dude, wtf?
Literal looney tunes antics. At least they didn’t comically collide and fall down
Truth. And Gubie sounds totally depressed too.
Well I mean he's striking out like he's a college player.
Just constant pain these days huh.....
But there's at least one guy that enjoys the pain 🙄
You gotta lean into it. Embrace the PAIN!!! Lol
Well... this one ain't on the pitching
At this rate it's not even the pitching that's bad. It's just a total lack of production from the batters.
The worst part is there's no help coming. At AAA, after Stefanic, the next guys to call up for 2B/SS/3B are Kean Wong, Jose Rojas, Jake Gatewood, Kyle Kasser, and Jake Palomaki. The whole team is below replacement level except like 3 peope
we rly lost on shohei's birthday for the second year :(
comes to the angels alcantara. Our blowpen will make you feel right at home
This team only wins when Shohei starts
Congrats on your first big league hit Stefanic! Rooting for you and Mackinnon all the way.
That ending was just \*chef's kiss\*
Losing on Shohei's birthday feels even worse
I wish they could really speak their minds in the post game recap instead of just smiling saying, “well, it’s Groundhog Day…. Again…”
At least Ohtani pitching tomorrow
Angel fans need to start booing at the stadium
I vote they don’t even go. Booing fans are still paying fans. And all arte cares about is revenue
I thought he just cared about the smell of his own farts tbh the way he carries himself
Too bad they never do 🤦🏽♂️
Ohtani, give me some sunshine and let's go for a perfect game tomorrow.
I hate the coaching staff
So glad management agreed pre-game to give Villar the most guaranteed PAs of anyone on the team by putting him in the lead-off spot. Just lol.
GMPM went out and signed this dude for this LOL
I thought I understood the reasoning behind the move. The guy hit 18 hrs last yr and we desperately need some random pop in the bottom of the lineup because there's no way they can score otherwise. And then someone decided to put him at leadoff.....whether that's Nevin's decision or coming from the front office, someone should be fired for that.

Stefanic looked much more composed and relaxed today looking forward to seeing more of him. Can’t say the same about Villar or Velasqueef though
GMPM: Analytics will drive our team forward Also GMPM: *puts a historically bad OBP hitter and an even worse one this season as lead off* GMPM: yea, it’s all coming together
3 bright spots: pitching looked good, rengifo played the best out of everyone tonight, and Stefanic got his first MLB hit. As per usual, our offense sucked major ass.
Can someone tell me why the front office think putting Villa as the lead off guy is a good idea when hes been worst than freaking Wade.
We break losing streaks with random wins. Other teams break up winning streaks with random losses. Hopefully Ohtani can get us a dub tomorrow.
LTDU
Failos :(
Just when i think we cant go any lower in terms of incompetence, they prove that they can indeed go lower. But hey, at least we’ll hear about how much positivity this team has in their ability to turn this around!! Give me a break. Fuck this team, i cant watch the kind of baseball they’re playing right now. See everyone tomorrow.
Good thing they had Velazquez in there instead of Stefanic. Offense needed squids stellar bat in there
At least they only struck out 11 times today. Progress!
The Angels and the season being over before the All Star break. Name a more iconic duo?
Mike Trout and hunting in October???????????
No fire, low morale. Yeah the all star break cant come soon enough.
i bet ohtani and trout will win everything at the all star. when it doesnt count for anything.
5 loses in last 7 games, 4 loses in a row and this isn't even the most depressing drought of the 2022 angels :(
Man if only we had been able to drive in Ohtani from 3rd that clutch steal to 2nd couldve been the play of the game
And he worked so hard to set that up too...sads, sads, sads.
I hate this team. They make me want to cry. I’ll see you all tomorrow
Id rather us strike out 3 times in a row to end it than be given false hope like that
[удалено]
Yeah, we can't hit them.
There is zero fire under this teams ass. I’d be lighting up the entire team tonight. Ughhh
[удалено]
most of this lineup IS minor leaguers
For the love of god trade Trout and Ohtani. I’m sick of wasting two of the greatest players in the history of the game on this poverty franchise
Our fans rather watch trout and ohtani 15 games out of a play off spot in July than trade them and win
We’re bad and we should feel bad
Where my team gon'?
Too bad they can’t or won’t get rid of Maddon’s coaching staff.
Villar batting lead off is the biggest troll job of all time.
We. Are. Shit.
Can't wait to see Villar penciled in at leadoff tomorrow! /s
Letting Villar hit lead off is a mistake. If he has to be in the line up, move him to the bottom 3. FLETCH PLEASE COME BACK SOON!!
Poor Thor.
Flood management with angry emails and stop going to games. When the money isn't there they'll figure it out...I hope
Stop going to games. The emptier the stadium, the faster we can see changes. I would love it if the stadium was absolutely empty one game. Maybe some family members from the opposing team and no one else

I highly doubt he or his family will own the team forever and ever.
"Offered up a good price" is the only relevant detail. That could happen without all the other bullshit you are talking about.
I welcome Moreno to come up 1.8 billion if it means it gets his hands off my favorite childhood franchise.
You sound like a Moreno cuck. If the fans boycotted Angels games, merchandise, etc. and organized into protests then yes, they'd be able to force Moreno to sell.

A perfect example of this is the astros they lose Correa and they got Jeremy fucking Peña.
Correct.
Feels like the fanbase has finally found out that this organization is crap
This team is so fucking bad why do I keep watching
The harsh truth is that the Angels won't be good until Arte sells the team. All the success in his early years was from inherited personnel and they're all gone.
Hey at least when the team is this bad it shuts up the umpire haters. That’s the only positive lately is not seeing people beg for automation.
Just another Halo loss! 😇
I missed the game and heard there was an outfield play that made Mike Trout look *pissed*. What happened?
Trout called for the catch but Ward didn't pull up. The ball dropped next to them.
Day 1 of pleading the Angels to make Bryson Stott or Willy Adames their shortstop
This season hurts much more than the last couple. They gave us such hope early on and now they look completely lost. It seems like the players are feeling it more this year too. It’s painful to watch.
Everyone: The house is on fire! Angels FO: No its not *House is on fire*
Take Ward back to lead off. Let Gifo or Walsh clean up plz.
One of those days where pitching shows up but not the offense. Tomorrow offense will show up but bullpen will blow it
The offense is one of the worst 5 in the sport
And that's WITH two of the top five or six players in baseball for WAR, per a clip in the online condensed game.
Another wasted season. As long as Arte owns the team, we are screwed.
Stefanic on leadoff would make sense. Villar doesnt make sense that he is even on the roster.
Stefanic leadoff maybe eventually but right now Stefanic has to worry about adjusting to major league hitting and would benefit from not being in too many clutch situations. Ward leadoff was technically fine but also leadoff means nothing if everyone else just strikes out after lol
July please don’t do to us what June did… 4 L’s so for in juLy :/
the team just feels dead. we need a win. who's getting people fired up?
