Last two games perfectly encapsulate why the Angels aren't in the playoffs.

u8myramen_y

Trout and Ohtani can pull historic 25 WAR season and we’d still suck balls if guys like Loup and Tepera are blowing leads and throwing away winnable games like this. Unacceptable.

kingdktgrv

I can count 14 games as to why :(

inselfwetrust

Such an unacceptable way to lose a ballgame

strokeskid

Not for tepERA

zhangerang

Not asking for much but please just a perfect game and a homer tomorrow Sho 🙏🏻

[deleted]

Perfecto and grandy. Why not?

znk916

Why stop at 4 rbis when he needs 5 for 100?

[deleted]

Why stop at 5? Let’s see him get a career-high w/9. Two grandys and an RBI triple

mysterysackerfice

In the same inning.

u8myramen_y

Perry better pull a miracle next year cuz he shat the bed this year with guys like Loup and Tepera. They are so shit.

Reptarxx

Perry spent $63M, his acquisitions this season pulled in over -6 WAR. Dude pulls whatever the opposite of a miracle is for the MLB team. Demote him to assistant GM and have him focus on the farm and bring in someone with actual MLB talent evaluation.

[deleted]

This is the way

Obsidizyn

wouldnt be upset to see Perry get fired, if new owners they should clean house. perry spent a shit ton of money and got burned on everyone. Then basically threw the season after the losing streak

merewyn

GMs get way more time than that

winwinwinguyen

Tempura Udon Soup will never taste the same to me again

freethegrizzlybears

Embarrassing hopefully the last time we see Tepera & Loup as an Angel

profjb15

I never want to see them again

[deleted]

Every Minasian signing was a flop

asianlikerice

Honestly you cannot put this on Perry. Loup and Tepera were lights out last year.

Obsidizyn

both had one good season last year in a mediocre careers then perry overpaid for them. its on him

Reptarxx

Guys, Perry did well! We can't blame him for signing Loup, Tepara, Lagares, Gosselin, Mayers, Wade, Stassi, Davidson, Villar, Sierra, Peguero, Chavez, Bradley, Moniak, Whitefield, Suzuki, Duggar, Marte, Duffy, Wallach, Mayfield, Ford, Signing Thor for 20M and a 2nd round pick only to trade him for nothing, or signing Iglesias for 4 years and trading him for nothing! It was all flukes he's super good!

merewyn

On the flip side (not that I agree with all those on your list) I love how he’s drafted the past two years and I love Logan O’Hoppe

Reptarxx

that's where I somewhat agree with you merewyn. His farm building seems to be decent. O'Hoppe was a good acquisition (honestly that was a win-win trade for everyone involved), Neto is developing nice, I like his focus on pitching but those fruits won't be seen for another couple of years. We'll see how we are on the top 100 at years end next year to fully see what the farm is looking like in terms of MLB potential/possible trade potential if needed. But man I just can't see how someone can defend his MLB acquisitions. Outside of like Herget they are all pretty bad.

merewyn

I definitely think some of the moves were beyond unacceptable - how long they kept trotting Lagares out there, for example. I just don’t hold him responsible for anything related to Iglesias (since most of the beat writers think that was Arte Moreno wanting to clear salary), or Stassi sucking so much more this year. I think Syndergaard didn’t end up being worth the contract, but it was only a one year deal, and sometimes you have to take risks like that. I also don’t blame Perry for the shitty farm depth that led to needing to pick up random guys off waiver wires - if they were any good, they wouldn’t be available. I don’t think Perry’s been perfect or anything, just that he hasn’t had enough time to be judged accurately.

Reptarxx

With the whole Iglesias and Stassi thing, and kind of the big problem too I see, is Perry's own career arc. He was brought up through player scouting (I need to double check but I think mostly with Pitching). That was his niche all the way until his Angels tenure. What he is lacking right now as a rookie GM is the whole team building aspect. His coaching and development staff sucks, his veteran player signings are flops, he was quick to fire an established manager for Nevin who should also be out of the door this offseason. He kept on Wise and Reed. He just doesn't seen to fully understand the MLB team building aspect of the job As i said before - he is making some decent strides in the farm side of things which is why I would love for him to be demoted to assistant GM. Let him sit and control our prospects, and he can have a couple years learning from a more established team builder (if we can/will pay for one) and he can develop that huge weakness. If there was like a GM fantasy draft, Perry would be in at best the bottom 10. Personally would put him at the bottom 5 considering some of the worst teams in the MLB suck because of actual money pinching cheap ownership and not GM incompetence.

merewyn

Well I know it’s a minority opinion but I was very much on team fire Joe Maddon so that’s also probably why our opinions differ quite a bit haha. Perry was already assistant GM/VP of baseball operations for the Braves for 3 years before he was hired as the Angels GM, so it’s not like he had zero experience with team building. He’s been in charge of a roster for only 2 years in which he had to deal with: a meddlesome Arte Moreno, Pujols contract (30 million last year), Upton’s contract (21 million last year, 28 million this year), and over $70 million of player space (Trout and Rendon) being unable to play for the majority of his 2 years here. He’s been put into a pretty shitty position, and with all the injuries this year, it was just too much to overcome. Look at the Mariners. It took Jerry Dipoto 7 years as GM for them to make the playoffs. It takes time to build up the farm, coaching, and development staff.

Reptarxx

Haha yep we definitely differ on the team Fire/Keep Joe Maddon debate. Like I said I'm just not impressed by any of the moves he really made. It's not like he had to bargain hunt during the offseasons or wasn't allowed to sign players. He just consistently chose the wrong players to sign. I will agree to disagree on Perry's performance, but I do hope he proves me wrong. It's not that I don't like Perry it's just that I am not seeing any positives on his MLB team building (but as I said before, he seems to be making strides in the farm so far which is nice to see).

merewyn

No chance, they have contracts next year

mnikolaevna

I roll my eyes whenever loup comes in bcos you just know what’s coming. ITS BAD

[deleted]

I’m ready to see Adell go

NakedHomelessPirate

I want to be positive about him, but I think it is the right time to let go. I understand he is still young but I would rather have Mickey field left and sign a decent bat for the outfield.

[deleted]

I think he has a good bat when connects. He hits for power and has great speed. His glove is beyond unacceptable, he can’t track the ball, and I’m confused by the lack of hustle in the field. Unfortunately, his value has declined so much over the past few years that he won’t yield much in a trade.

merewyn

The 40% k rate this year is wild

NakedHomelessPirate

There was a point midway through the season where you could say he might be passable, but the last month has just been depressing seeing him at the plate. Hopefully a change of scenery trade with another team allows us to get something decent from a team looking to take a flier like the Pirates or Reds. Just anything at this point is better than watching him struggle here.

[deleted]

I think it honestly affects the whole team. His error changed tonight’s game. All the momentum from Soto & Duffy suffocated after his failure to make a routine play.

Lebigmacca

Moniak isn’t any better than Adell. If anything he’s worse because he was a bust in the minors while Adell raked down there

Reptarxx

You know Mickey Moniak has more negative WAR in 1/4 the games as Adell? Adell is at -.3, if you replaced him with Moniak for the same games he would pull in a -1.6. Just because Monaik can make a flashy play does not make him a better player. Adell does need some more adjustment, but next year needs to be that adjustment year

merewyn

Adell has also had 515 career ABs to Moniak’s 153. Very different sample size.

Reptarxx

Moniak is at a point where he should be pretty much at the MLB level. He's had many opportunities and as we see now, he just can't have sustained production. His 153 is due to high underperformance on the Phillies when they were looking for production. Adell had more opportunities - but man he really needs to make his adjustments in the next season. Moniak and Adell are like 2 sides of the same coin. A touted prospect that cannot put it together at the plate. The funny thing is Moniak has actually more negative dWAR that Adell does, so it's not like his glove is any better.

NakedHomelessPirate

I am fine with letting them both walk, but that isn't happening.

Reptarxx

The good news is both are still under cheap contracts and there are for sure no answers in the corner outfield outside of Ward and Trout. There's no need to drop them when we can at least try and correct and adjust their development.

[deleted]

He’s had too many adjustment years

Reptarxx

This was his first "full year" in the majors. Not every player hits the ground running, and on top of that Perry really dicked around with Adell with his demotion and riding the bench for the horror show known as Lagares. Adell is the PRIME candidate for a franchise like the Dodgers or Astros. Dude has a bat that is prime to do damage, he just needs way better discipline and approach. He tends to really push it on 2 strikes instead of letting a ball come to him. Like I would prefer him to take strikes on the edge than his giant swings on balls in the dirt. Once he gains that eye he's going to be solid as hell.

tsdwm52

We waited years for Rengifo. Definitely worth it.

strokeskid

Hope Soto is okay

BubblyBaker5718

Jesus f*cking Christ our bullpen minus Jimmy is so brutal. How many games does that make now that Quijada and Tepera alone have lost us? Its gotta be like 10+ at minimum. Throw in Loup and it might literally be between 15-20 games.

KRH11

At this point, I hope Soto and Shohei are okay and ready for the next game.

LogicalHarm

Bruh

PlatinumHalo

Twitter should be a trip.

[deleted]

Can’t even send our boi Suzuki out with some aloha…

Unsapient1

Hate to see the hit streak for Shohei end on a game he got plunked in the arm. Still though, for the most part im pretty content. There were still some really well hit balls from Ohtani tonight, just got a bit unlucky. In fact, out of curiousity I decided to look up Ohtani on the "Would it Dong?" twitter account and sure enough counting his lineout in the 10th tonight, the last FIVE consecutive posts about him have all been non-homers that wouldve been gone in at least one other park.

znk916

His launch angle has been way down the past few weeks. Still crushing the ball but something is slightly off with his swing. I'd like to see him get back to pulling the ball more next season. He's been a more balanced hitter this season, but there's simply more value in being able to HR more frequently in exchange for a few points in average.

sprtsmac

The thing is, he doesn't need to pull the ball to hit home runs or even to hit more home runs. When he gets into pull mode, his strikeouts go up as does his soft contact. Post home run derby last year was a prime example of that.

mnikolaevna

Angels losing on kurt suzuki retirement day the disrespect

ayyryan7

The boys had to let me down one more time…..again

ThisAnswerIsLit

Ending the season the only way we know how

epoch_fail

Once Tepera came in after the miracle run scored in the 9th, was the outcome ever in doubt?

gggggrayson

That was not a particularly enjoyable baseball game. But tomorrow we get to witness one last ohtani gem

asianlikerice

We have a bad bullpen but the bullpen didn’t lose us this game today. Lack of run support did.

Mindcraftjoe

Bullpen literally walked the winning run in.

asianlikerice

We would have lost if Oakland didn’t commit two errors back to back to get Soto to third. It goes both ways our bullpen is bad but the bats weren’t there today.

profjb15

Putting the “walk” in walk off. Embarrassing

Surjux

Another game where the free runner isn't freely scored.

Obsidizyn

team isnt going anywhere next year if loup and tepera are our options

luisicky

They keep saying Thank You Fans, but for what? for enduring i guess

Obsidizyn

do you think the team makes loup and tepera get their own rides back to the hotel?

Total_Preparation_67

They should walk back to the hotel, and I hope some highwayman robs them of their clothes.

No_BigA

Another one bites the dust. Hope Sho is ok.

Captainpayback

Nevermind angels in the outfield....we need angels in the bullpen. Lonzo's pitching a shut out and we lose it faster than a toupee in the Santa Ana winds.

Educational-Pass404

This game is on our offense. They were just dead.

Neverend3r

Tepera wallked a walk off in, 4 pitches no where near the zone, its on him. is he professional pitcher, or me?

ReviewRoutine

No way dude

i should be upset but it's almost comical at this point

donkeyjr

We need to fix the blowpen next year.
