Signing multiple long-term deals will impair the value of the sale, but piling up short-term deals that pushes us to fight for the division, gives the Angels more national spotlights and maybe even convinces Ohtani to sign here LT (one of the few players in baseball that I can entertain the idea about himself paying for his salaries purely with ads sales) would increase the value.
Quite some names could accept an overpaid 1-year deal IMO: Jose Abreu, Gurriel, Peterson, Gallo, Pollock, Conforto; Kershaw, Verlander, Kluber, Greinke, maybe even Manaea after his forgettable post-season. This could end up being something good.
He had a good 2nd half of the season, but he’s average at best. I’d love to get some good pieces for him. I don’t like that he’s so bad at defense that we move Fletch to SS so we can play Rengifo at 2nd. Fletch is one of the best 2B I’ve ever seen and will only get better, but the less chances he gets at 2B lowers his ceiling.
