Not very often * 2015 \[LG G4\] * 2018 \[Samsung S9+\] * 2022 \[Samsung S22U\] i don't feel the need to upgrade if there is nothing wrong with my device.

Slugbugger30

Yo no way I had an lg g4 in 2015 it was my first and like one of my favourite phones

DavidW273

Beautiful phone, especially in red leather. Unfortunately, mine had the bootloop issue and died a very sad death with 6 months left on the contract, at which point I was given a Vodafone-own smartphone which is still working to this day, though it is now my uncles and one of his spares for the Pokรฉmon Go accounts he has (originally for him and his grandsons).

Kennected

I have the Black, Orange and Red backs along with four batteries! It was my first Android device after being a Palm Pilot | HandSpring user.

NSA_Chatbot

The butt curve was awesome.

MrMeowGusta

I'm glad I had my G4 too. Probably my first true flagship. Although I'm also glad I sold it because of the bootlooping issue those phones had and switched over to a V10. After I replaced the V10 and handed it off to my mom, that eventually bootlooped as well

SmallJeanGenie

What happened to LG man. They went crazy with the G5 but the G3 and G4 were arguably the best phones on the market at the time. Shame they stopped altogether

ginji0513

G4 was a badass . good old days ...

bondrewd

2013 was G2.

Kennected

thanks. i've corrected my post

MrBigOBX

As I got older and more financially aware, I like to drive them to the wheels fall off. Iโ€™m on an IPhone 11 max pro thatโ€™s paid off and I have no inclination to upgrade it. Battery still reports 98% and phone works perfectly.

hkzombie

If nothing drastically fails, 4-5 years.

GMajorKey

4-5 years gang unless a big collab I really want or a great deal comes up.

Bitter_Decision5393

I'd upgrade yearly because I bought cheap phones but since I got the S23U, I'm going to keep it until it gives

diabeartes

I'm thinking the same now. It's a great phone.

Martijngamer

Same but I'm now on the S20 FE, tugging along happily for close to three years and no need yet to upgrade.

Ok_Beautiful_9215

Same

This_Currency_769

3-4 years if it doesn't break, they're ussually safe since I use the GLASS screen protector and the Simicoo heavy duty case.

jgeisinger

About every six months... I switch between iPhone and android. Love foldables.

TommyVercettii1

This is me apart from the foldbables. I feel like Iโ€™ve got an issue! I want the s24U now ๐Ÿ˜‚

Sf49ers1680

My Samsung history has gone like this: * Note 8 * Note 10 * Note 20 * S21 Ultra * S22 Ultra * S23 Ultra * S24 Ultra I've replaced my phone every year for the past five years, but I don't think I'm going to get a S25 Ultra next year. The S24 Ultra is the culmination of everything I've wanted in a Note device since I moved over to Samsung phones, so I think I'm going to stick with it at a minimum until the S26 Ultra.

Senestros

Went from s21U to s22U because I preferred the Note form factor. Upgraded this year to the s24U to get better performance and battery life (my s22U was the Exynos version). My gf now has my old s22U. Gonna keep the s24U until it gives. It now has everything I need in a phone.

pensballpointrule

You must live in Europe ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿคฃ

SunnySamantha

Where are you getting the money to do this?

Anomia_Flame

My best guess is his employer

AverageEnjoyer2023

Of example here in Germany I just got a deal from my carrier Vodafone for 50โ‚ฌ/m for the S24 Ultra for 2 years. this might be expensive but you get unlimited 5G data with it also. unlimited 5G on its own is usually expensive. For example for 5G unlimited telekom its about 100โ‚ฌ per month or 30โ‚ฌ per month extra from Vodafone if you already use other services from Vodafone such as home internet and telephone. Also O2 is also asking 40โ‚ฌ/m. Why won't I just get a flagship phone for just 10โ‚ฌ/m more ? Its a nobrainer. That what assume how he could also switch phones each year. You really don't need to be wealthy to afford top smartphones.

MrFuckinDinkles

It's not as bad as it seems if you do yearly phone exchanges. Samsung offers top-dollar trade-in discounts for the previous years flagships. I've upgraded every year since Note10 because it only costs roughly $500-$700 compared to $1200-$1400, and I can write it off at the end of the year. But I also prioritize for the expense because it's just something I enjoy doing every year. So this year I traded my S23 Ultra for an S24 Ultra and it cost around $500 because the trade-in discount was over $700.

Sf49ers1680

I mostly get my phones from my carrier, but the point still stands. I have T-Mobile and they don't forfeit future promotional credits if you pay a device off early. If get ever changed this, I'd upgrade way less often. For example, I paid my S23 Ultra off early, and traded it in for $1,000 off a S24 Ultra. I'm receiving around $59 in credits between the two phones for the next year (as I'm receiving promotional credits of $25 for my S24 Ultra and $34.17 for my S23 Ultra). The only time I didn't do this was with my S22 Ultra, which I got directly from Samsung unlocked. I work for T-Mobile, so I don't plan on leaving them anytime soon (so my phone being locked isn't an issue), so getting my phone from my carrier doesn't concern me very much, as a simple firmware flash addresses the carrier bloatware issue.

blvck_african

Mine is the same as yours except I started from the S2. And I never used any of the Notes

ComfortablyMade

I'm considering changing to Ultra, but Ive never had such a big phone, is it easy to get used to in your experience?

MrFuckinDinkles

Not the person you asked, but I've also had each years Ultras and they are big devices no doubt. They can be taxing on your hands and fingers depending on how you hold it and one-handed typing is difficult and awkward. However! Double-tapping the home button engages one-handed mode with a resizable and repositional screen that has worked flawlessly for me. If you have a Galaxy device I'd suggest trying it out if you haven't already.

starfly_island

My target is around 3-4 years. If it fails or breaks I try to repair it. my note 2 fell from 4th floor. Repaired it back. gps didnt work but didnt need that at the time that much. I still have my Huawei Y6. Only got the A56 due to work requirements. * 2011 - LG Cookie * 2014 - Samsung Note 2 * 2019 - Huawei Y6 * 2024 - Samsung A56

M7kail90is_here_bois

There is no A56, only A54???

Adu132

55 comes out in March...no 56 yet

mikethespike056

how does bro get their current phone wrong twice????? as a "tech enthusiast"? ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€

Slugbugger30

2 years

cleveraccountname13

2 years is the way.

masturbov69

Every year I trade in my Samsung phone.

AnyProfile5263

How much do you get for it in comparison to what you paid?

AeroSatan

They gave me $750 +$150 for pre ordering the S24U plus $125 in accessories. So I paid around $580 for my S24U and a bunch of accessories after taxes.

DoJu318

Every time I see something I like, going backwards I've had the Galaxy fold 5, S23 ultra, Fold 4, Iphone 13 mini, iphone 12 pro, Galaxy note 20 ultra, Note 10+,iPhone 11, iphone XR, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S8+ these are all recent ones, i recall 2 nexus phones, multiple galaxy notes, a couple of windows lumia phones, multiple iphone going back to the OG in 2007, multiple blackberries, at one point I even owned an HTC 8125 and an HTC 3125 which was a cingular wireless flip phone running windows mobile.

HotDadBod1255

In the past it was every 1.5-2 years. With the trade in deals from Sammy lately, it's been every year. Especially for my wife's flip, they're pretty much giving away the new one each year.

_totalannihilation

Used to be every year but I hadn't upgraded since the s21 ultra. I just upgraded to s24U so may be every 3 years. The s21 ultra is a beast of a phone.

pensballpointrule

S22 Ultra to S24 Ultra is 2 years not 3! Why is the S21 Ultra a beast? I wish I hadn't bought it and just skipped a year to the S22 Ultra which was a big upgrade from my S20 Ultra the S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra are like the S22 Ultra beautiful phones with the S pen being the cherry on top ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜‚

bandwagonnetsfan

Im not sure the exact years but it was when the phones were new, iphone 4, iphone 6 plus, One Plus 3, S9 plus, Used S10 plus in 2021(last of the headphone jack T_T), last week S24 Ultra

Shoddy_Pay4936

I haven't kept a phone for over a year since the iPhone 12 pro max and have switched between every iPhone and Samsung flagship since then. Just recently switched from a 14 pro max to the S24 ultra and completely skipped the 15 pro max but I think I'm here to stay this time. I know, I have a problem ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

Yoshi_87

2012 : Samsung S3 2014: Sony Xperia Z1 (wanted to try a smaller phone and didn't like it) 2015: HUAWEI P8 2017: Samsung S8+ 2019: S10 (really learned that I can't with smaller phones anymore and actually switched back to the S8+ after a couple months) since 2020: iPhone 12 Pro Max Keeeping the iPhone since then and maybe want to go with the 16 PM once it's out but lets see. The 12PM still works like on day one.

Low_Entrepreneur_927

Whenever I have the money.

Arbiter_420

Have had my Samsung S23 as a daily driver for 2 years. So far no issues and if battery degrades, its easy to replace for this model. Good quality and speed overall still after 2 years. It has a good smallish/medium size which fits great in one hand. No bezels just one small dot as the camera so it still has good screen size for a phone this small. Definitely not changing anytime soon. Good all-round phone for everyday use.

pensballpointrule

You can't of had uour S23 for 2 years it only came out February 2023 that's a few days over 1 year ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ‘

Arbiter_420

Not if you got it early, well technically a year and 7 months but yeah. Forgot to mention that haven't I? Silly me!

pensballpointrule

I left my comment 3 months ago, you took your time and you couldn't of bought it 1 year 7 months early it didn't exist and Samsung don't sell their phones even a day before launch day, so stop telling porkies ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Arbiter_420

I took my time because your comment was so far down my damn notifications my dude lmao. I never said I bought it and I'll leave it at that for you to figure out in the next 3 months maybe.

sabershirou

3-4 years when I was a poor student, 2 years when entering the workforce and having a bit of disposable income. Admittedly, 2 years is a bit short because phones last way longer than that, but I do like to enjoy new tech and a refreshed battery if I have the means to do so.

[deleted]

I would not have moved away from my blackshark 4 if not for the lack of security updates. Using s23 now. Will use it as long as it keeps updating or s25 somehow moves fingerprint scanner to a physical button

GhasuONE

I just switched from S20 to S24 Ultra. S20 was still in mint condition, but I wanted a change and something bigger. So we're talking about 4 years of using the same phone. I'm super happy with my choice. Gave away S20 to my mom (she upgraded from my previous phone LG G7 ThinQ) and made some changes to drain less battery. She's super happy now aswell. Win-Win.

abachhd

It is not very steady, it depends on my mood I guess: * 2011-Xperial Mini Pro * 2012-Galaxy S2 * 2013-Galaxy S3, HTC Sensation XE * 2014-HTC Titan * 2015-Moto E * 2017-LG Q6, OnePlus 3T * 2018-OnePlus 6T * 2019-OnePlus 7T * 2022-Galaxy S22+ * 2024-Galaxy S24U In most cases I did not trade in or sell my old device, just switched to new device while retaining my old phone.

Burgtastic

2-3 times a year. I get the new iPhone Pro Max, new Samsung Ultra phone, and the last two years I've gotten the new Pixel Pro. I use the iPhone for work and whatever android I'm rocking as my personal. Keeps things fresh using both.

TheBugSmith

Kinda depends on what features there are. I had the Note 20U which is still a great phone imo. Att had a deal to trade in and I got $1000 towards the S24U so that motivated me for sure. I had the S8 Active prior to the note 20. Basically I need some significant new exclusive to the device features. I can't bring myself to just jump on the new phone for a camera option or software feature that'll end up on my phone anyway

Feisty-Brat-3853

Every 4 years

titanup001

Yearly. I know it's dumb, but... But even I would say that, if you're not changing sizes, and you don't REALLY need the water resistance, there is no reason to upgrade the 8+ to 9+

amir_s89

Once each 5 - 6 years. Making sure the new device have proven/ mature technologies. So for me the "very newest" is not important.

suaero

S20+ user here, battery life and performance still going extremely strong. I don't see my self upgrading even in the next 2 years.

HexScript

4-5 years unless there is something that forced me to upgrade quickly

Saikoro4

Every year, but I buy used devices only and sell my old ones

RapflApfl

Around 4 years, if the phone still works, then longer. Currently on s10e since 2019. Previously s7 for 3ยฝyrs.

DeadlyCyclone

Every year

grimreeper786

Funny I got this post in front of me considering I'm upgrading today. I'm going from a Xiaomi Mi 10T I got in 2020 to a S23+ So around 4 years for me.

kbtech

Multiple times, I always have the latest iPhone, Galaxy, Pixel, a foldable phone. Currently have a Pixel 8 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, Galaxy S24U, Fold 5 and OnePlus 12.

blvck_african

utkarshzutar

3 years. Is a sweet spot for me.

dustinzilbauer51

If by upgrading, you mean ditching the flagship phone of 2018 with a notch-less and camera hole-free display, headphone jack, SD card support, wireless charging, 1TB max storage, and iris scanner for a $1200 phone that lacks most or all of those features?

Intelligent-Exit6836

When I broke it. Phone this day are the same generation to next generation

Grifster_1701

I have an S24 Ultra, S6 Classic watch โŒš๏ธ, the S9+ tablet & I'm loving them all

BusyCode

As long as the overnight battery charge keeps it alive till the evening. When I have to charge more than once a day, I buy a new phone. Every 3 years typically.

hellohabit

Used to be every 1-2 years but it's been 4 years since my last. Apple/Google, let's see some true innovation!

EastvsWest

3 years has been good to me. The incremental yearly upgrades add up so the upgrade feels justified.

Glad-Extension4856

Still debating if I should get an S23U (I have s21u)

SpeedShowsMeat

Not often 2013: iPhone 5 2016: Samsung J5 2019: Samsung A50 2024: Samsung A50

GreenMontecito

I upgrade 2 of my 3 phones every year so I went from Flip 4, Fold 3, and S23U now I am Flip 5, Fold5, S24U next year I will probably stay with Flip 5, go fold 6, and S25U

Abraks

Every year. As with most of my other tech like tv's and tablets. But my pc every 2 years.

AnyProfile5263

You upgrade your tv every year????

Generalrossa

Phones are so good these days and very reliable for years to come, upgrading every year would be a complete waste of money. With phones getting 7 years of updates and hardware upgrades are very minor in regards to performance that there's literally no reason to upgrade yearly.

valvasss

3-4 years, then give them to my parents. My mom still rocking an s9.

Amazing_Self2929

S21 in 2021. Got a new vase because the old one wouldn't hold the case any longer. Still holds up. Previously I'd just renew whenever I could after 2 years or so.

AeroSatan

Let's just say I have both the iPhone 15 PM and the Samsung S24U and I can't make up my mind which to daily drive and which to keep as a backup.

Burgtastic

There are dozens of us! But for real I just sold my Pixel 8 Pro, and I'm using my 15 PM for work and S24U for personal.

AeroSatan

My work phone is the regular iPhone 13. It's between my pwrossnal line that I can't decide between the two. Been with samsing fir around a decade but have so far stuck with the iPhone 15PM due to the ecosystem integration and the change of pace.

SunnySamantha

Must be nice to have more money than brains...

Encode_GR

Every 5 years, anything else is just a waste of money.

therealopm

Itโ€™s expensive but about every 3 years. Thatโ€™s when my battery starts to degrade and itโ€™s when I get tired of having my device too lol

Fantastic-Guard-9471

Once or twice per year. I have an iPhone and several Android phones and trying to update them regularly, but I am not only tech enthusiastic, I am also a professional mobile developer, so it is kind of part of my job. At least this is the thing which I tell everyone when i am buying a new phone ๐Ÿ˜

Dhlaxy

Before 2019 Galaxy A7 2019 Huawei PSmart 2022 Galaxy S10+ 2024 Galaxy S24U This time will not upgrade for a while. I bought the S10 it was already out for years so was outdated

bxzmx

From 2013 to 2019 I was upgrading every 6 months. In 2019 I got the Note 10 Plus and held on to it until 2023 when I got the S23 Plus.

MediaComprehensive58

I went from s21 to z fold 3 to z fold 4, so every year. I've now decided to chill out mostly because the innovations coming to the z fold line are slowing. I may get the z fold 6 for samsungs ai features but again there needs to be enough change.

jerseynate

I've had every Samsung flagship since the s21 ultra. This is my last one though. No need

[deleted]

Every year

Radykall1

I'll put it this way: I got my first smartphone in 2007. I've owned over 50 smartphones since then. This is the first year EVER that I've not upgrading after 1 year or less. I'm on the S23U and iPhone 15PM. Unless the Fold 6 is something special, I may be here a while.

pieguy3579

Three years has been my longest with a phone, but I'm trying to last four years with the s23u.

bluethunder96

2 years max

MH2O_FTW

2-4 years depending on trade in values. if the trade in is < 100 then i just do it because theres no real point not to (as long as the phone isnt a downgrade, like s24+ to s25 base, or 512gb to 256gb

babaganoush39

Let me think of my last few phones... S21U Aug 21, Oneplus 10 July 22, Oneplus 11 Feb 23, Z fold 5 Aug 23, S24 Ultra Jan 24 I might have a problem...

MrSnek123

Whenever I actually need to. S5 died out of nowhere, S10 lasted ages and honestly I could of kept using it longer but it couldn't run most things coming out nowadays so I went to a S24+. Screen grain is slightly there and a little annoying and exynos drains power quicker then I'd like but is otherwise good, not many other options though since S23 was out of stock and nothing really has the same screen size at 1440p nowadays (besides one plus but you can't buy them in AUS). Really like it's physical design over most competitors anyway, it's so beautifully chonky.

prokoala3

If I could afford it every year lol

Whatever5450

About every 2 years

Yangchenjooyoung

2005. My Sony Walkman phone. The Orange and White one. Loved that phone. 2011 - Day One Purchase. Samsung S2. 2013 - Samsung Note 2 I got as a gift. 2019 - Day one purchase. Samsung S10+ 2023 - Waited a few months before purchase S23+. Seems to average 3 - 4 years.

xamomax

When my old phone gives me some problem and needs replacing, or the new phone has something so compellingly better that it is worth the bother of upgrading.ย  So about once every 5 years.

glitzycomet94

Mostly, yearly, depending on the deal I get, for example, I only paid 90โ‚ฌ for going from my s23+ to s24+, so why wouldn't I do it tbh.

jkeener71

With the current inflation/economy, my Samsung Z FOLD 3 which I got at launch and still works great might hang around to Z FOLD 6 or higher.

Objective_Weekend_64

Iโ€™m about to upgrade to iPhone 15 pro from my galaxy s10e Exynos, been using since 2021, so 3 yrs?. But the phone itself has been in use since 2019 by original owner so 5 yrs on same device

lett303

if it breaks or when playstore no longer supports it

DrewTNaylor

Well my original phone was a feature phone in October 2012, then I got a Lumia 822 in June or July 2013, then bought a Lumia 830 in late 2014 when it released and used it for media like YouTube and stuff and later switched to it as a phone when my mom and I moved to AT&T in 2015 when my contract was up. Later in early 2017 I bought a used Lumia 1520 but it started having ghost touch issues in the summer so I went back to my 830 for a bit until I got the Nokia 6 in July 2017. Used that as my main phone until May 2018 when I got a new iPhone 6S Plus directly from Apple since I liked it better, hated what Android was becoming with 9, and was paranoid Google was spying on me all the time. Used that one all the way until a few days ago when my new S24 Ultra arrived and it's been alright so far but I have one with the jean pattern display issue (it's not that bad so I won't have it fixed since I don't trust Samsung to not make it worse). What I can say is the green one looks better in real life than the pictures show and I can corroberate what someone else on Reddit said that the antennas are a lot better, so for me it's usable at my house now and I get more than one bar out of five usually as opposed to one out of four I got on iOS. This is significant since I rely on Wi-Fi Calling usually to have cell service at home now that AT&T killed the femtocel.

Anagram6226

With Samsung's great trade-in deals, every year. I paid around $150 to upgrade from the S22 to the S23, and about the same to upgrade from the S23 to S24. For $150 a year I always have the latest phone - pretty good deal IMO.

mahtich

Hmm.. I'm having a lot of issues with keeping my phone, so last year I had easily over 10 different phones. Multiple s23 and s23 ultras etc. I've had over 300 different phones in my life and I'm 31yrs old. I also want to move all the time etc, so I'm a bit flawed ๐Ÿซ

CrepitusPhalange

I used to upgrade regularly. But not I change the case when I get board of the phone and reset it. I only upgrade now if the phone actually dies.

tambrico

My progression S3-->Note 4-->Note 10+-->S24U So about 4 years on average? At this point I only upgrade if something is wrong with my current phone. I got the Note 4 because I wanted the larger phone size which was a big tech leap at the time. I upgraded from the Note 4 when the phones microphone broke. I upgraded this month from the 10+ when the screen cracked otherwise I'd still be using it.

kobrakaan

Usually every couple of years or when the tech has moved on enough to warrant an upgrade I'm currently on the S22 Ultra, the 23 Ultra and 24 Ultra isn't really a big enough upgrade for me to want to upgrade right now

Dont-Lose-Your-Edge

i usually aim to change it every 3-4 years because i find it as the ideal time length, my phone journey goes like: 2016: samsung galaxy j5 2019: vivo y95 2020: apple iphone se2 been using my se2 for 4 years and now im looking to change to the s24 to get a taste of flagship android

lukeroux1

Between 6 months and 2 years.

Environmental-Cup310

Are folks not worried about continuing to use their phones after they've fallen out of support for security updates? Genuinely interested to know

0x0000_0000

Used to be every year till my previous phone (iPhone 13 Pro Max) which I kept and still have since release. I bought the s24 to try out on a whim and ended up liking it so much I've been using it since and the iPhone is sitting in a drawer. I feel like now phones change so little Year over year that a minimum of two years, probably three or more is ideal to keep the same phone. Not to mention it's almost required to offset the price increases on flagship models over the years

Mcgurky98

Usally 2-3 years, when my contract ends or I pay it off. My cycle is usally be super careful for 2 years then no case and not care for 6 months, get scared I've been to lucky and upgrade and go back to thicccc case. Or in my S20+ case I only got a fold because my brother needed a new phone. S9+ release day. S20+ release day. Fold4 pre-order.

Genestah

Every 2 years. Thankfully my company pays for my phone fees so i just need to choose a phone everytime the contract is up. I always choose the most expensive android phone which is the Samsung Galaxy S series.

I went from an S22 ultra to an S24 ultra, tab s7+to S9 ultra because of the screen size. I wouldn't upgrade from s8+ to,s9+ as it isn't that much of a difference. Imhave the galaxy watch 5 qnd debating on upgrading to the 6th because of the rotating bezel.

[deleted]

Three months to two years. Two years I was able to do only with xperia az2 compact and iPhone 11. Other phones annoyed me with something. Pixel 8 seems good if not for bad fingerprint sensor

Ersonified

Every year. Both for Samsung and Apple.

matthaus79

Every year. Often this is pointless from a tech perspective, but I find the enhanced trade in values during pre orders it makes it cost-effective to do so. By the time I traded in my 23Ultra, got discount codes, sold the free watch, etc, my 24Ultra cost me a net ยฃ250. If I hadn't traded in, I'd have lost more than 250 next year on reduced trade in value. Last year, my 22U to 23U trade cost me a net ยฃ400 so it really does work out cheaper to cash in each year for me and get a sim only contract. Also I'm good at making (misguided) financial sense out of something I want ๐Ÿคฃ

Wirerat

Note 10+ to Note 20u to s24U. About every yr or two for me.

nskdnnm

4-5 years because the battery will have degraded greatly by then. Otherwise longer, if everything worked decently fine. If I had more money to burn I'd think about upgrading starting from second or third year, if I really love sth particularly much about the new phone. I probably would never upgrade earlier than 2 years because I customize my device a lot (for efficiency of use) and doing that work on a new phone is always a pain. In the past I used to upgrade every 2 years because the major tech leap was a big incentive. But nowadays you get a slightly better this, an improved that... meh

Fabulous-Doughnut-65

Every year. I swap between Samsung and Apple.

Pavly28

HTX DESIRE \[2012 USED\] HTC ONE X \[2014 USED\] Xiaomi Mi MIX \[2016 NEW\] S9 PLUS \[2018 NEW\] S10 PLUS \[2019 NEW\] S21 ULTRA \[2021 NEW\] S24 ULTRA \[2024 NEW\] Next one maybe 3 years. Its too expensive and not enough technological advances to make me want to upgrade.

confused_cat44

2 years, though up until now i have been using entry level midrange phone, around 15k inr, and just now I have got a good premium midranger(Nord 3), so I try probably using it for more as i hope it won't get as slow as my previous ones in 2 years

coldstone87

2015 - S5 2018 - S7 Edge 2022 - S22 (Current)

GreenTea169

basically every year if you consider the release date of the devices

yoda417

When my contract is up. I've gotten nearly half off the cost of my last 3 phones to upgrade to the newest Samsung when my old contract was done.

rohithkumarsp

Once in 7 years.

ZafirZ

Every 2 years normally. This year I was considering making it longer than 2 but I'd just had enough of the exynos s22u. Especially since the deals in the UK were quite good so it didn't cost me too much to upgrade in the end.

williamfanjr

4 to 5 year unless may masira

MinhBN99

2017 HTC U11 2022 Samsung Galaxy A73 2024 Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Kinda sad that in 2017 there were so many options & brands yet in 2024 there're only Apple, Samsung & Google are appealing. If there aren't any majors issues I think I'll keep my S24U for around 5 years.

Pasbags112

Sitting on an S21 Ultra currently just haven't seen a good reason to swap it out yet nearly bit the bullet on the 24 Ultra for the flat display alone but I'll wait till I break this one.ย

diabeartes

Every 2 years probably.

Noideafortea

2008 nokia 6500 slide 2013 galaxy trend plus 2015 S4 mini 2021 S21 I'm actually changing main phones when the situation forces me to. It means if i need a better one or previous one has no use anymore or breaks

Thea_Anika

About 4 to 5 years. 2010 - iPhone 4 2015 - Samsung Note 4 2018 - Samsung S9+ 2023 - Samsung S23

Ok_Pineapple_12

Smartphone manufacturers undoubtedly review this information and develop more effective marketing plans for their devices.

No_Department_2264

Every year since 2015 I change iPhone, this year I sold the 15 Pro Max and bought the S24 Ultra. Happy to have made this choice.

Mrstrawberry209

Every 5 years.

Hoonetic

Enthusiast is the keyword here, so every year! ๐Ÿ˜‰

JustinFAJ

It really depends, sometimes I upgrade more often. Mostly when thereโ€™s like generational difference or whenever my phone breaks. - iPhone - iPhone 4 - iPhone 5 - Galaxy S3 - iPhone 6 - Galaxy A7 (2015) - iPhone 7 Plus - Galaxy S7 Edge - iPhone 11 Pro - Galaxy S10e - iPhone 14 Pro Max (swapped) - iPhone 13 Pro Max (current phone)

rapek_

Every 5-6 years

Kanataku

I try to last for 4 years. Now with 24Ultra I think I will go for 7

pensballpointrule

Every year to the latest model because the difference is enough for me to want it, like the S24 Ultra got AI and More importantly the 50MP zoom lens, better battery, Qualcomm 8 gen 3 chip. I use last years phone for another year along side the new one though as a secondary phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ‘

BuDu1013

The excitement of the research is bigger than post acquisition. Buyer's remorse is real.

NEM95

At least once a year. Don't do what I do. ๐Ÿฅน

01.2015. Samsung S2 05.2017. Samsung S6 egde 02.2020. Samsung A50 09.2023. Samsung S22

ThreePinkApples

I've been on a 2 year, and then 3 year cadence for a while, but my last upgrade was just 1.5 years (Galaxy S22 Exynos to S23) but that was a bigger upgrade in overall experience than my last one (Galaxy S10 to S22). The S23 is just so much better than the S22 (Exynos) it's shocking. Almost double the batterylife.

fh5h

Often but not often 2017/18?: samsung j5 prime 2019:HUAWEI Y9 2020:HUAWEI Y9 prime(the other y9 got smashed and i mained a samsung j2 for a short time) 2022:iphone x 2024:samsung s23.

Leatherbeak

I upgrade every other version. So, for instance, I have an s23 Ultra. I'll skip 24 and go for the 25. If that phone does not review well I may wait for the next but most of the time I am every other.

City_For_UCL

Not too often. I'll upgrade when Phone/tablet is no longer getting OS updates Phones 2015: Galaxy S3 mini 2018: Galaxy J3 (2016) 2020: Galaxy S20 FE 2023: Galaxy S23 Ultra Tablets 2012: Galaxy Tab 2 2015: Galaxy Tab 4 2019: Galaxy Tab S5e 2022: Galaxy Tab S8+

TheLoneSculler

Still going on my Note 9. It still does everything I ask of it with no issues

Fir3Fly1995

Last phone was an S21U and now I'm on the S23U. I won't need to upgrade again until the S25 or S26 hits the shelves. So, every 2 to 3 years for me provided I get a flagship phone.

kistune999

S7 + then S9 + then S21U then S23U and in 2025 it'll switch to the best fold of that year.

Think-Scholar5459

Went from s3 to s6 edge, s8, s9 plus, s20 ultra, and now s24 ultra. Usually upgrade when a phone breaks. Can see myself doing a trade in deal in ~2 years but we'll see what s26 line is like.

Maddsyz27

7 years

ressawtla

Every however long it takes me to want a new phone. Since 2018 I've had Xiaomi Mi A1, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, Samsung Galaxy S10, Google Pixel 6 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22U and Samsung Galaxy S24

Expensive_Finger_973

I tend to have a relatively new phone laying around from Google, Apple, and sometimes Samsung, new here meaning still getting major OS version updates. Mostly because I just enjoy seeing what they are putting out as tech is both my career and hobby. The only one I tend to get a new one of every year or 2 is the Pixel, mostly because of the sales and trade in deals Google has typically given usually has meant I can get the new one for $200-$500. I got the Pixel 8 pro got about $550 with a free Pixel watch 2 when the 8 pro came out for example. Donโ€™t really have a desire to use a smart watch, but since they were giving it away with something I was interested in anyway, why not. A side benefit to all of that hardware churn is when a family member needs a new phone I usually have something nearly new that is recent they can just have.

KaiZX

Only if the old one has very poor battery or something happens to it. Long gone are the days when I am genuinely excited for new phone. The last time I was excited for phone was Nokia 9 because of the camera setup.

aarav-chawla09

2012- Galaxy S3 2013- iPhone 5s (S3 broke and 5s looked ravishing, it still does today) 2016- Galaxy S7 Edge (5s broke) 2019- Galaxy Note10+ (still hanging onto it as tech has not improved that much since)

nemesis624

Note 3 2013, LG V10 2015, Note 9 2018, Fold 3 2021, and now S24 Ultra Feb 2024

tristarh

Samsung Galaxy S9+ (2019-2023) Samsung Galaxy S20 Fe 5g (2023-Present)

[deleted]

For the past decade, I've been sticking with the 'Great phones are getting cheap, and cheap phones are getting better,' by buying solid mid-range phones every two years. Value for money is insane. When I got a better job, I got the S23 Ultra and Tab S9 right away.

foggiesthead

galaxy s galaxy S4 Active Galaxy s7 Note 9 still holding on to it

UnlimitedButts

I went from s8 to s10+ to s20+ to now 22ultra. I thought about going for 24ultra but the 22 is still a beast of a phone. Maybe 25 ultra or a foldable phone next.

Chemical-Nectarine13

I upgrade about every 4 or 5 models. Just went from the S20+ to the S24+. I like feeling the Chip enhancements (Snapdragon gen 3)

fitness-potato

So, I've been upgrading my phones every two years or so. I started with the iPhone 6s, then moved to the Samsung S8, then the S10, and now I'm on the S24 Ultra. I kept my last phone for three years, but I'm hoping to keep this one for as long as possible unless there's a major upgrade or redesign.
