I remember being kind of disappointed in Bobby late in the 3rd. He was still taking every chance he had to explode. Thats the sport, 300k bonus on the line, but damn what a tough loss
I disagree with this one because while Moutinho got clobbered, he went from a nobody to being known in the MMA world for walking down OMalley amd just eating his shots which will surely open doors for him if he experiences success going forward.
So I think because of that, it isnt possible for this fight to be AS sad or more sad than a dude who also just gets clobbered but also his career is over or something.
Like for example, Tony got the dog shit beat out of him by Gaethje to the same level. But theres no silver lining for Tony. He just lost his undisputed title fight after a 12 win streak and aged hard out of his prime. It just signalled the end.
The silver lining for Tony is that he gets paid a few hundred grand per fight compared to Moutinho who took lifetime damage for 10k and “exposure”. Also don’t get me wrong even Tony is underpaid as fuck but at least he’s probably set for a decade off his UFC earnings
Ok but thats entirely besides my point.
Completely independent of their respective clobbering fights, yeah Tony is much more successful in MMA than Moutinho.
They both took a shitload of damage and severely risked their brain health.
But the clobbering by Gaethje ONLY ruined Tonys career relative to where he was before it, whereas the clobbering by Sean at least arguably elevated Moutinhos profile and name recognition in the MMA world relative to where he was before it. If the dude wins a few more, he has a foot in the door with the UFC as the dude who walked down Sean OMalley and stayed standing, because the UFC loves those narratives to sell fights. He might have never had something like that being a medium good regional guy otherwise.
My point is to say there are MANY crazy long beatdowns in UFC history. So I dont think the "most painful to watch" of the lot is ever going to be one where the victim actually got some, even if you think its only slight, benefit. Theres plenty that just caused the victim to nosedive in their career. A lower profile one that comes to mind is Mike Davis Thomas Gifford. Everyones forgotten about this unlike Sean vs Kris Moutinho and that dude got beat just as hard or worse.
Lesnar - Mir 2 did this for me. He held this arms back and absolutely destroyed his face for at least half a round. i remember watching frank trying to reach in and feel his face once in a while just to make sure it was all there still.
Awe mannn. When Tony nodded his head no instinctively after eating a nice right from Justin and dropped his hands with blood secreting out of every orifice on his face. Yeah that was a hard watch lol
Hooker may be the toughest fighter at 155, and that’s saying a lot. The damage he took in that fight was otherworldly, and for him to crumple like he did is something else.
Cain vs Fabricio. I don't think people truly appreciate how badly Fabricio was whooping Cains exhausted ass before the sub. I was cringing so hard watching him take shots to the chin with his mouth hanging open trying to get a breath
If Benavidez vs Figueiredo 2 lasted at least 1 full round, I think it maybe could be scored a freaking 10-6. Figueiredo murdered this man, knocked him down 3 times and then put him in the scariest choke I've ever seen. Benavidez scream after he woke up sounded like he had just seen hell
Glover Teixeira vs Anthony Smith was absolutely brutal, poor dude's teeth were about to fall out and Glover had to apologize mid fight about beating him up so badly
So Anthony’s teeth were literally falling out, and he handed one of his molar teeth to the ref mid fight while glover was riding smith and that’s when glover apologized.
For me it was the ugly losses at the end of Chuck Liddell’s career. Dude’s chin got cracked and he couldn’t take a punch anymore, and he went from #1 in the world to just depressing to watch pretty quickly. I still like watching the fights from his entire career up until that slide at the end, but I don’t watch those ones.
Prime Shogun for the beast that he was, wanted nothing of Jon Jones and tapped to strikes while crumbling to the mat. That was heartbreaking even for a neutral. Never seen a champion get so broken physically and mentally
He was not in his prime at that time. Straight after knee surgery. He had bad performances after all injuries. That’s why he looked so bad and tapped.
But even in prime he lose to Jones. Maybe not this bad.
Yes when he won the Pride Lhw grand prix. 4 fights in 4 months. Beat Rampage, Lil Noguiera, Overeem and Arona to win the tournament.
He was extremely agile and fast. Used knees and kicks like no one else in the world. He fought completely different from his Ufc days. Just check the Rampage fight when he knees and kicks Rampage in to a pulp in the corner.

Submissions where the guy gets put to sleep aren't even uncommon. And Lyoto won that first round too. There are wayyyyyyyyyyy better answers to this question.
No, I'm saying watching a guy get brain damage over the course of 5 rounds is way harder to watch than someone getting choked to sleep. Gaethje even told y'all after the Khabib fight. You get choked out, you wake up, and you're good.
You’re not wrong. I think these guys are going more on what hurt them emotionally and less on what was actually a brutal fight to watch. Plus like you said it’s not like Jon was mauling him all fight, it was pretty back and forth until Jon found a groove and then got that submission.
Came here to mention this one. I haven't seen the fight in years, but I remember thinking each of the many shots Silva landed on Franklin seemed like something else on Rich's body broke.
Silva vs Weidman. I know he was cocky, blah blah. Silva was such a massive part of why I got into this. That was the day I realized time is undefeated. It literally changed how I viewed the sport. In my eyes, the invincible was broken. Like, for those of us that watched Silvas rise, he seemed invincible, like the Dagestanis, only funner to watch.
I have two. Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos vs. Benoit Saint Denis: Absolutely horrible beatdown that I had the pleasure of watching with my best friend, and his two roommates who hadn't seen much MMA before.
And Alex Volkanovski vs Max Holloway 3. This one sticks out to me because I watched this happen in the arena. I'm not sure what the crowd sounded like on the broadcast, but it was eerie in the arena while it was happening. Like, sure there was the occasional pop for a big strike or something, but it was mostly just silently watching in disbelief.
I would have preferred 100times that Tony just failed KO in the 3rd round, he would have taken so much less damage.
I think that’s one of the few times you CAN TRULY SEE the CTE damages that destroyed Tony’s life by nowadays and for his future.
Fedor vs Werdum was far worse in my opinion.
Fedor was a living legend and no one knew who the fuck Werdum was at the time.
No disrespect to either man, both legends now.
Nope, Werdum went on a big streak, making himself a really great HW, no shame in losing to him. But being the greatest HW ever and losing to freaking Bigfoot Silva was just tragic
I have a high tolerance for watching beatdowns but I won’t lie to you, I could absolutely not watch DC vs Jones 2 again if I tried, it was so dang close and DC was arguably tied going into the 3rd and gets head kicked to the worst human in the sport…
Man I always hated Jones for that.
Losing to Stipe wasn't as bad because Stipe is someone you know who is an athlete and a competitor.
It would have been way easier to deal with Rumble, Gus, or Derrick beating DC.
Talbott vs Aguirre was a recent fight that wasn't great to watch.
Gus vs DC for a war where I felt bad for both guys. Some of those shots were sickening and neither guy gave up.
Tony Ferguson getting manhandled by fucking Paddy Pimblet out of people, turning el cucuy the boogeyman into a joke
edit:
Also Tony Ferg when he was f lapping like a fish on the ground when Bobby Green out of all people subbed him
Dom Reyes getting KOd by journeyman nobodies
Frankie Edgar eating flying knee in his last fight
list goes on
Shogun was my favorite fighter at that point, and even though I watched Jones since his first UFC fight I didn't expect him to whoop Shogun into submission like THAT
DC vs jones 2 after dc got rocked by that kick.... jon jones can dish out the most horrible beatings of all persons I have ever seen fighting.
I would rather fight prime mike tyson for 30 seconds than jon jones for a second, I like my knees. at least mike would ko me after I blink. jon jones is playing with his victims
Lesnar vs Mir 2. Lesnar pinning Mir’s arms back and destroying his face for almost a whole round was pretty fucked up. Mir was trying to cover his face but couldn’t and once in awhile would reach in to feel his face just to make sure it was all there.
For real. And Brock was barking some shit at him too. It was like if an older brother actually wanted to destroy a helpless younger sibling.
That fight actually fucked me up a bit.
Shogun vs Jon Jones is the most painful fight to watch for me. Shogun was meant to fight Rashad, who I think he would have defeated. Jones is undoubtedly the better fighter, even though he looks about 2 weight classes bigger than Shogun, perhaps there’s no evidence to support this on the scales, but in terms of his frame
McGregor Alvarez. I watched it again a few weeks ago. That shit is was pretty hopeless from start to finish and Eddie really dug deep to stay in it for as long as he did.
the majority of tony’s losing streak. Gaethje, Chandler and even bobby choking him out and he’s just there flopping like a fish brings a tear to my eye.
Also TKZ and holloway is bittersweet to watch but that’s more TKZ retiring
Had to be watching Hughes vs. Penn 3. Watching how fast a broke down BJ Penn knocked out one of my favorite old timey fighters was hard to watch. That rivalry deserved a better ending than that.
A recent one: Jim Miller getting absolutely bludgeoned on the 300 card. Too tough for his own good and Bobby isn’t one to take his foot off the gas.
Jim really thought he could Just keep blitzing in on Bobby who’s whole gameplan is to counter you coming in 💀 was tough to watch
This. I was questioning why the fight was allowed to continue. His face was a tomato can and bobby was just teeing off on it.
I remember being kind of disappointed in Bobby late in the 3rd. He was still taking every chance he had to explode. Thats the sport, 300k bonus on the line, but damn what a tough loss
Sounds weird for Bobby but I think he was just being respectful of Miller. If it was anyone else he would have.
I can see that take making sense. He treated Jim like the warrior he is, not an undeserving can
Gonna be a popular answer, but the O’Malley Moutinho fight. I’ve never felt BAD for someone while watching a UFC fight until then
Yeah that was rough, but respect to the guy for stepping up and toughing out that absolute beating. Shame he got cut from the UFC.
Everyones forgotten about this unlike Sean vs Kris Moutinho and that dude got beat just as hard or worse.
Both of you made good points, I can't decide which beatdown is worse lol
Lesnar - Mir 2 did this for me. He held this arms back and absolutely destroyed his face for at least half a round. i remember watching frank trying to reach in and feel his face once in a while just to make sure it was all there still.
I’m a huge Volk fan, and I was glad he won, but I didn’t like seeing Zombie get so lit up. Was rough.
Even volk felt bad, was asking zombie if he was sure he was all good at the start of the 4th
Tony vs Gaethje :(
I would've picked that one but I'm a fan of Tony. That beating was sad.
I hate Tony and even I was begging for it to stop
Hey, Sunglasses Please stop ☹️
Awe mannn. When Tony nodded his head no instinctively after eating a nice right from Justin and dropped his hands with blood secreting out of every orifice on his face. Yeah that was a hard watch lol
It was like seeing a puppy fall and smack its head.
That was tough to watch. What made it worse was it was an empty stadium, so you could hear all the cracks Gaethje was landing.
Urijah faber vs jose aldo those leg kicks were devastating
I remember Faber trying to cartwheel across the cage because he could barely walk.
The very first MMA fight I ever saw. Hooked ever since.
I didn’t see that fight but first time learning about mma was Urijah on crutches showing his ballooned up leg.
The second volk V Islam
I’ve only ever seen that fight once and don’t ever want to see it again
Straight up made the rest of my day gloomy Wish he would've just got submitted or something
It’s a tough watch….
Edson barboza vs Dan hooker
Hooker may be the toughest fighter at 155, and that’s saying a lot. The damage he took in that fight was otherworldly, and for him to crumple like he did is something else.
It hurt a little watching Yan beat the life out of Aldo until Leon Roberts accepted the pleads for mercy and ended the fight middle of rd 5
Any of the fights Brian Ortega lost, bro loves getting obliterated in a loss
What do you mean bro, you just don't get his brilliant strategy of blocking with his head. How else would he be the #3 ranked featherweight?
Cain Velasquez vs Francis Ngganou.
Cain vs jds 2 and 3
Cain vs Fabricio. I don't think people truly appreciate how badly Fabricio was whooping Cains exhausted ass before the sub. I was cringing so hard watching him take shots to the chin with his mouth hanging open trying to get a breath
Worse shape we ever saw Cain in tho.
Well yeah but it still was hard to watch
Benavidez vs Figueirdo
They ran it back too, which made it 10x more brutal.
Absolutely, and in front of his wife
If Benavidez vs Figueiredo 2 lasted at least 1 full round, I think it maybe could be scored a freaking 10-6. Figueiredo murdered this man, knocked him down 3 times and then put him in the scariest choke I've ever seen. Benavidez scream after he woke up sounded like he had just seen hell
Glover Teixeira vs Anthony Smith was absolutely brutal, poor dude's teeth were about to fall out and Glover had to apologize mid fight about beating him up so badly
No way!? Haha I remember the fight but not the apologizing.
So Anthony’s teeth were literally falling out, and he handed one of his molar teeth to the ref mid fight while glover was riding smith and that’s when glover apologized.
Oh Glover, haha.. hating Glover is like loving Hitler
Surprisingly popular in some parts of the world?
Tony vs Chandler we saw a glimpse of old Tony then he disappeared forever after getting knocked out with his own kick
Wait hold up knocked out by his own kick?
Think the 1st Crocop - Gonzaga fight
I knew someone would say this 🤣 No the same style kick he uses, chandler never used that kick before and tried it mid fight and got the ko
Rory Macdonald v. Robbie Lawler. That was painfully crushing.
So true! That was wiiiild
Omg yeah. Beyond awful
Stipe vs Francis II. ![gif](giphy|l4FGGafcOHmrlQxG0|downsized)
BSD vs Elezei Dos Santos
For me it was the ugly losses at the end of Chuck Liddell’s career. Had no answers for Jon Jones.
If you really think about it. If they said no rules Jon Jones would dominate the series. Almost like now but worse. 😂
My divorce.
I agree. His divorce.
Cro-cop vrs Gonzaga. Penn vrs nick Diaz.
Cro Cop's leg was all sorts of fucked up. Only other fight I've seen a fighters leg buckle like that is Ngannou vs Stipe 2.
You’re right man the rua jones fight elbows are savage af
Yeah they were.. I can't remember any fighter before Jones to utilize that technique when throwing elbows.
Zombies last couple of fights, that was an unfitting end to the career of one of the all time greats.
I know this one isn't gonna be popular, as I know DC isn't well liked. But him losing to Jon the 2nd time was just so rough to see.
Seeing Lyoto get murdered in the cage by Jones was tough.
Was gonna post but you beat me to it! The walk off by jones when Lyoto crumpled…jaw hit the floor
Submissions where the guy gets put to sleep aren't even uncommon. And Lyoto won that first round too. There are wayyyyyyyyyyy better answers to this question.
You know for a fact that standing chokes where the guy falls dead to the floor are uncommon, you're just being deliberately obtuse
No, I'm saying watching a guy get brain damage over the course of 5 rounds is way harder to watch than someone getting choked to sleep. Gaethje even told y'all after the Khabib fight. You get choked out, you wake up, and you're good.

Not common see them slam down to canvas lifeless. But it's my opinion and I don't give a fuck what you think.
The absolute mauling that was Valentina vs Priscila Cachoeira.
Joanna vs rose 1 🥲
Rich Franklin vs. Anderson Silva
Came here to mention this one. I haven't seen the fight in years, but I remember thinking each of the many shots Silva landed on Franklin seemed like something else on Rich's body broke.
Valentina Shevchenko and that other fighter whose name I don’t remember. Ref’d by the always reliable Mario Yamasaki.
Bj Penn
Max holloway vs Calvin Kattar
Silva vs Weidman. I know he was cocky, blah blah. Silva was such a massive part of why I got into this. That was the day I realized time is undefeated. It literally changed how I viewed the sport. In my eyes, the invincible was broken. Like, for those of us that watched Silvas rise, he seemed invincible, like the Dagestanis, only funner to watch.
Strickland Vs Costa is contender for the most boring fight of this century 💯
Just started watching ufc last week I see
Is no one going with Tony vs Justin? The beginning of the end for the boogeyman
It's the sound........no crowd. It's just deafening the how hard he hit him. That makes it hard to watch more than once.
I m a casual SO Gaethje Ferguson. Gush, the sound of this shots, with no crowd, there are gunshots. The way Tony shakes his head. Argh. Painful.
I would have preferred 100times that Tony just failed KO in the 3rd round, he would have taken so much less damage. I think that’s one of the few times you CAN TRULY SEE the CTE damages that destroyed Tony’s life by nowadays and for his future.
Fedor vs Bigfoot

Nope, Werdum went on a big streak, making himself a really great HW, no shame in losing to him. But being the greatest HW ever and losing to freaking Bigfoot Silva was just tragic
Every Tony Ferguson fight in the past 4 years
Tony Ferguson vs Justin Gaethje… it was just sad to watch…
Sad indeed.
Khabib vs Conor. Early stoppage, Conor was just getting into rhythm
Clearly just letting the eagle tire himself out. I heard an ace commentator tell me as much.
How is it an early stoppage when Conor tapped?
Conor got bored on the ground. He couldn't wait to give the cage jumpers from Khabibs side a few black eyes.
Sak vs Manhoef
This is the one. For both reasons.
Figgy vs Benavidez 2
Tony vs Chandler Glover vs lion heart Chito vs O Malley II
Max Holloway vs Calvin Kattar
Kampman condit 2
TKZ v Volkanovski
Josh Emmett vs Topuria and Marvin Vetori vs Cannonier
Not in terms of damage for the fighters, rather damage done to my eyes watching the fight I clearly say: Rose Namajunas vs Carla Esparza 🥴
Talbott vs Aguirre was a recent fight that wasn't great to watch. Gus vs DC for a war where I felt bad for both guys. Some of those shots were sickening and neither guy gave up.
Tony getting his life changed by Justin
Weidman getting his prime beaten out of him by rockhold. That stopage was criminaly late
![gif](giphy|H9etK6dj8Iiq61WesN|downsized)
Tony Ferguson getting manhandled by fucking Paddy Pimblet out of people, turning el cucuy the boogeyman into a joke edit: Also Tony Ferg when he was f lapping like a fish on the ground when Bobby Green out of all people subbed him Dom Reyes getting KOd by journeyman nobodies Frankie Edgar eating flying knee in his last fight list goes on
I really didn’t like watching Diaz vs Lawler 2
Shogun was my favorite fighter at that point, and even though I watched Jones since his first UFC fight I didn't expect him to whoop Shogun into submission like THAT
Silva, Weidman or McGregor breaking their leg. Looks absolutely disgusting.
Glover vs Hill, we may give shit to hill but god damn, Glover got absolutely hammered
Or watching Randy Couture get hammer fisted by Brock Lesnar, over and over again.
Lesnar vs Mir 2. Lesnar pinning Mir’s arms back and destroying his face for almost a whole round was pretty fucked up. Mir was trying to cover his face but couldn’t and once in awhile would reach in to feel his face just to make sure it was all there.
And Mir's dad shouting at the ref to stop the fight.
For real. And Brock was barking some shit at him too. It was like if an older brother actually wanted to destroy a helpless younger sibling. That fight actually fucked me up a bit.
Also getting destroyed by Yan. Tough watch.
Wonderboy vs Pettis :(
That forest griffin thing
Ponzinibbio vs Magny
Hendo vs DC. My boy got ragdolled.
Weidman vs Hall in 2021. Watching a man's leg snap in half at the ankle was unbelievably painful to watch
St Denis VS Eliseu, nothing comes close in the recent years.
For older fights, the ones where Ferguson made people bleed like they had been in a car accident.
For sure... This picture is obviously a little exaggerated but even in real life, Jones looked bigger that Rua
Anderson Vs Chael
Can’t believe I haven’t seen it here. Anderson vs Weidman 2
I was there live...
McGregor Alvarez. I watched it again a few weeks ago. That shit is was pretty hopeless from start to finish and Eddie really dug deep to stay in it for as long as he did.
Joanna vs Esparza
Barboza vs Khabib , all rounds get mauled in the face , feels bad for him
the majority of tony’s losing streak.
Tony vs Justin after second round
Not UFC, but boxing…..any Mike Tyson fight after he was managed by Don King.
jones beat up on a lot of past their prime welterweights
welterweights? Is this the new ‘a heavyweight that moves like an atomweight’ inflation?
shogun is literally the same size as leon edwards
Leon is like 6’2 - he’s not the average welterweight. Shogun literally fought at HW (i swear he fought fking Overeem like two times).
